details emerging in the investigation into the brussels bombing. a belgian prosecutor say terrorists planned to attack france again just months after carrying out the massacre in paris. kelly morgan live in brussels on what has changed the plans. what do we know, kelly? >> well, chris, they believe the police were closing in after the arrest on paris terror suspect salah abdeslam. the men bombed the airport in the metro station. details about the plot are from a computer called by ibrahim el bakraoui. on their computer there was data and two targets were listed. the business district and catholic association in paris.

now, interesting this information comes on it just days after the most wanted man in europe, mohammed abrini, was arrested, pounced on after he walked down the street. abrini has been wanted since the attacks in november. finally arrested here. interesting that we would start to hear about this paris plot just days after he was arrested. we do know he has been talking to police. as you say, he has confessed to being the third airport bomber. it is another thing whether police completely believe him. >> cia director john brennan making it clearwater boarding is no longer part of his agency's practices. he is speaking out because tactics and techniques are turning into catch phrases on the campaign trail. he had he would not carry out instructions to waterboard.

and that they really were prepared and able to go forward with repeat attacks. so that doesn't mean any of the people investigating know exactly what target was set up by these people who are now arrested. but it does give a strong sense there are extra layers they need to be searching for. we suspected there would be a couple dozen or more people still out there. that's what everyone still suggests. >> you have another headline about what's going on with the metro reopening in brussels. what that means abroad. let's go one step deeper on what ryan just told us. my sources inside the community specifically are saying, yeah, we're not surprised they wanted to come here again. what they struggled with is why us? when you look at the situation there, why would paris be a consistent target? >> because it is the most

extensive of all their foreign fighter apparatus. european nationals are rising in the ranks of isis's security sources. a french national was the former police chief of their headquarters of isis's foreign intelligence. he is now senior, in charge of all european operations. another guy is a french national, not even on muslim, a white french guy who converted to islam who i'm told is very senior in the organization. if you speak french and you have been trained up and been sent back, chances are you're going to be a very, very high list of people to carry out the attacks. >> what's your plus/minus on this the guy. >> i'm sure he is. >> what can you believe and how much of it. >> they always give you kernels

jeffre jeffreys. it matters in new york as much or more than any state in the union. let's listen first to what former president bill clinton had to say about the issue that had been dogging hillary clinton about the word predators and what it means as a perspective on the african-american community. and bernie sanders latest response to it. here they are back to back. >> i don't know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped up on crack and sent them out on the street to murder other african-american children. maybe you thought they were good citizens. she didn't. she didn't. you are defending the people who killed the lives you say matter. tell the truth. >> i think we all know what that term meant when in the context that it was said years ago. we know who they were talking

about. that's exactly right. that's who it was. and i think that the president owes the american people an apology for trying to defend what is indefensible. >> nina turner, what is bernie sanders doing here? >> well, chris, it's very clear. i mean, president clinton cannot on one hand apologize before the naacp and come face-to-face with leaders, women he in fact, called girls and played blamed them for the policies of the 1990s. it does not make sense. we cannot be the firewall in 2016. senator bernie sanders had it just write. the president does owe the american people an apology.

predator is bad enough. adding super predator adds another dimension. >> congressman? >> desperate candidates say desperate things. what we have seen is that senator bernie sanders has consistently lost the vote decisively. there's a reason for that. secretary clinton has been supporting issues of importance to the african-american community going all the way back to her early days as an attorney with the children's defense fund, fighting against the incarceration of stearns in adult prisons. as first lady in arkansas, she created a civil legal services that provided legal representation to thousands of individuals, many of whom were african-american. in the 1990s, she was a leader in helping to put into place the children's health insurance program, which was a bridge between medicare and the affordable care act. many children now have health

coverage. then of course as a senator for eight years here in new york, she consistently stood on the side of importance for issues of african-american people. so dusting off a word that she used in the 1990s that sleds was a poor choice and would never use again. >> the secretary should get that message to the president. if that is how she really feels, she needs to get that message to president clinton. desperate people do desperate things. and the clinton campaign is very desperate right now. when we talk about consistency, let's talk about consistency. senator sanders has been consistent. he put his body on the line in the 1960s as a young man. he was arrested. he had to pay a fine for standing up against racism. he didn't change his position based on the time. in 2008, president obama was not

qualified according to senator clinton. but now they are besties. so let's talk about consistency. sanders has stood up for the working poor and the middleclass in this country. he doesn't change his message based on what will resonate with the voters. the american people are sick and tired of being used for convenience. >> let me ask you one point of clarification. does the sanders campaign, do you believe that hillary clinton holds bad ideas where african-americans are involved? that she sees them as predators? >> the bottom line is this. we can't be super red tors one day and a firewall the next. even at the black girls rock. even the words coming out of her mouth today, black women have written and you can go all over social media, they felt it was empty. some in the african-american community do feel used. we need to have this

conversation about what it means and what african-americans need in a broader range since we are the loyalist base to the party. the secretary enjoy the history not the brand loyalty. she has been running for president the last eight years, and had the benefit of a national profile since the 1990s. and sanders has just come in in the last 11 months. in terms of standing up for bad trade deals, universal health care, he doesn't go to a deal signing for $15 an hour but refuses to support that on the federal level. he has been consistent. >> senator sanders promised us to campaign on issues. but as soon as the new york primary process began he just launched one attack on hillary

clinton after another can which have no anchoring in he is someone who appears to be all talk no action. when you study his record i can't find any meaningful evidence of him bringing about social and economic change. senator sanders was a mayor for eight years. he was in the house of representatives for 16. he's united states senator for 10. that's 34 years of public service. i would ask the senator, can you actually provide me with any meaningful evidence that he has actually brought about the political revolution that he's talking about. when you look at his record, i see several things. he voted five times against background checks. he voted twice to shield gun manufacturers on liability. the leading cause of death for african-american young men is homicide by gun violence. is and senator sanders actually not only has been missing in

action, he's done nothing about it. he's been on the wrong side of the issue. that's why we see this type of desperation in these attacks. let's talk about issues and a vision for moving forward. you referenced president obama. president obama found hillary clinton qualified enough to bring her on as a top cap net. >> final word. >> congressman, let's be real here. let's tell the truth here. senator sanders led efforts to stop tpp. all trade deals to protect jobs in this country. that's tell the truth about the consistency and the honesty going on here. in terms of president obama, i'm sick and tired of the clinton campaign riding the back of president obama. in 2008, he was not qualified. her 3:00 a.m. commercial that was a dog whistle but all of a sudden they are besties.

actually brussels wasn't the inte intended target. the computer that was owned by airport suicide bomber ibrahim al bakraoui. on that computer file, two locations were named. the business district and the catholic association in paris. now, interestingly, police have had this computer for almost three weeks now. interesting that we are only learning about this change in plan since the arrest of the six suspects on friday. chief among them, the most wanted man in europe, muhammoha abri abrini. police have been searching for him. they pounced on him as he walked around in plain sight. we know that he is talk to go police. he has confessed to being the airport bomber. the question is, is he also

in the past, talking about some of those tactics on the cruz campaign. listen to this. >> now they are trying to pick off those delegates one by one. that is not the way democracy is supposed to work. they offer them trips. they offer them all sorts of things. and you're allowed to do that. you're allowed to offer trips and you can buy all these votes? what kind of a system is this? >> what about that, ben. they're offering delegates perks. >> i would love for donald trump, a guy who loves to throw out these insane claims to show proof of this. i have a hard time buying he knows what people are getting when they are delegates. he hasn't had contact with hardly any delegates. i'm not sure he knew what it was or what it did at the convention a week ago when he fired his manager in colorado when he realized we have no ground game. this is nothing but a lack of experience understanding how hard it is to be president.

it now turns out that this brussels cell was planning to attack paris again. let's bring in editor-in-chief of the ctc sentinel paul crookshank. what they did under was terrible enough. why do we believe this and where does it lead us? >> abrini has told investigators that was going to be the target. number two, they found on the computer it would appear some plans linked to paris. it has become abundantly clear that the number one target for isis is france, is paris.

>> why is that? >> that's throwing the kitchen cinque at it right now. france is playing a leading role in the fight against isis in syria and in iraq. a lot of air strikes. and there are a lot of french recruits to join isis, giving them the capability to launch attacks in france. there is real concerns that there are dozens of operatives tasked with launching attacks. >> so, why did they change their plan? >> according to what they're saying, they changed it because salah abdeslam was arrested. they felt the dragnet was coming down on them. they were in brussels. according to what they are now saying to investigators, what abrini is saying, they the celebrated and launched this attack in brussels on the fly on the airport, at the metro.

investigators are not necessarily taking the word of these suspects at their word. they are looking into what their plans could have been. they also found government buildings in belgium, photos of them, plans of them on the computer about the terror cell. >> when i was in brussels a few weeks ago reporting on the attacks there, we went to his childhood neighborhood, molenbeek. that's where others were radicalized and lived. we went to the youth center where he spent his adolescence and found his former counselor talked about what he was like as a young man. let me play this for you. >> translator: the only one that can came here and i know was the young abrini. he came here when he was around 10, 11, 12 years old. he was a calm, even incident verted childment not extroverted at all. extremely calm and reserved.

i'm actually surprised to know this boy who was calm, kind, well manner could have gotten to that point. >> introverted, calm. what makes them susceptible to this poison. >> here's the trajectory for so many young men. they get involved in petty crime, gangsterism. they commit a robbery or something like that, they go to jail. in jail they are getting radicalized by these people over there who are giving them a sense of redemption, of purpose. and of course because they were involved in gangsterism, they got a lot of skills. so isis was able to draw on the op actives who know how to operate in a criminal matter, who have the connections where they can easily buy guns. when you say the al qaeda threat, isis has been able to

recruit some people who are more effective terrorists exhibiting greater trade craft, operational security. and the worry is now we will see a string of attacks get through in europe the next few months. >> the worry for you is what is still unknown, right? and you have specifics of that some. >> well, two concerning things this morning. number one, a missing bag with potentially explosives inside it. it was last seen on cctv at maalbeek. they haven't found it yet. they did a raid on brussels. didn't find the bag. very concerned about that. and also concerned about a missing suspect.

home. he chose -- he and his wife and family chose to live there after his days on the field ended. he made new orleans home. >> yeah, he did. he fell in love with the community. he made his home in suburban. they were involved in the city to a large degree. that's where they were. a french quarter fest when this unspeakable tragedy occurred later in the day. he was with peter thomas as well. it's hard to comprehend where we are. it's not just new orleans. it's nationwide and beyond. it is very, very frustrating. when you see someone of this magnitude, it just puts a face to a problem that continues to exist nationwide. >> you talk about this guy. oftentimes people are all reeling to make sense when there is no sense to a man being gunned down like this. he started his own nonprofit.

where there is a will there is a way working with at-risk youth. >> right. that pretty much defines who he was. often times when you are dealing with athletes, and i have done so for many years in a media capacity in covering sports, you're dealing with guys that often covet attention. they seek it. they want it. this is a guy that was anything like but that. he did not want it. he did not covet it. when you went to him he was unbelievably genuine. you could accept everything as gospel. he was great with the fans as well. making appearance at the saints hall of fame museum and beyond. people just gravitated to him. he couldn't have been more gracious with them. >> you get the real privilege of making that call when they are elected into the hall of fame. tell me about that phone conversation. >> you get so many different reactions. that's one of the best descriptions of my job running

the saints hall of fame, is to call people on an annual basis and to see and hear their reaction. will is known as a pretty low key guy. he had a pause when i told him. and he just stumbled through his comments. and he said this is fantastic. i can't tell you how much i appreciate this. and you could tell how genuine his reaction was. some guys cry. some guys laugh. some guys have other reactions. but this was typical of will. he hesitated before he responded. when he did he maintained his low key voice but let you know just how excited he was. and i know he was in subsequent conversations. >> so it will indeed proceed. it happened once before to be inducted posthumously. it will be a moving tribute to this young man who did terrific

work on and off the field. >> very much so. again, we have to remember, this was a 34-year-old young man with three young children and a loving wife. that's a tragedy. he is a football player, so it gets an enormous amount of attention. but you are talking about a father, a husband, a guy people respected and liked. of course the fans love him because he is part of their most beloved time in the history of the franchise. they won a super bowl with will smith. he was a prominent reason they won that super bowl. it is very, very sad he won't be around. michaela, defections from the afghan army giving the taliban the upper hand in afghanistan. in a cnn excuse issive, you will hear from the fighters who have switched sides in what is being called the endless war 37

there are some hard new realities emerging in afghanistan where the taliban is gaining ground and inching closer to retaking a province, one of the sites where the u.s.

and allies invested tremendous amounts of blood and money. why is the afghan army losing strength again? nick paton walsh live with this cnn exclusive. >> reporter: remarkable after all assurances gave would be able to hold taliban back so much territory changing hands. some cases defection to the taliban among afghan soldiers where that challenge is greatest. you know a war is going badly when your enemy is right in front of you. this white flag is the talibans. they are that close to these afghans defending one of the last held. it used to be nato that shot

from these positions near the vulnerable city. hundreds of americans and britains died many in the town where the pictures show the afghan army recently in heavy clashes. now afghanistan is quite quickly watching. the taliban are winning partly because of men like these. soldiers from the afghan army who america spent billions training who say they have defected and joined the taliban. >> translator: i did 18 months army training and took an oath to serve this country but the situation changed. the army let us down so we had to come to the taliban. >> reporter: they carried uniforms, i.d.s and bank cards used to get old army wages.

these pictures were more recently filmed and both use training and experience to train the taliban. >> translator: i decided to leave the army when my dead and injured conrads lay in our base but nobody took them to the hospital. my army training is useful now as i'm training taliban fighters with the same knowledge. >> reporter: men who have seen the tide turn and voted with their feet. this is the center of the town of the taliban site. some visit briefly from areas the taliban now control. it's a bit too soon to say whether people are happy with the taliban. it is full of people while it used to be empty because security was bad and some people avoided the government's forces. others fled to the outskirts.

>> translator: my worst memory is how a wedding party was hit by a mortar killing a large number of women and children. >> translator: the police left and told me to move to a vacant corner of the village but rockets followed killing ten people. >> reporter: just over a year since nato stopped fighting and the taliban's white flags are closer than ever. >> what do you see in the pace of decline there? >> reporter: it's deeply troubling. we are seeing falling in ways where nato officials would have laughed if you suggested was viable. u.s. officials are very key. so much is in taliban control.

if they get it they control poppies, opium, a lot of cash there. the u.s. embassy just sent out release warning american citizens to stay away from a particular hotel here after secretary kerry's visit was punctuated at the end. the capital is pretty dangerous and the rest of the country increasingly in peril. >> we are coming into the poppy growing season which means more money available, more violence. how much concern is there for what this change in the state of play is going to mean for the ordinary afghans? >> well, of course, taliban have caused people to take one side during the last decade or so and many may have chosen the wrong one. the government is concerned the perception is they are losing. they insist that the security

former new hampshire senator bob smith. good morning, senator. >> good morning. thanks for having me on. >> when paul manafort says this what is your response? >> it's nonsense. every time senator cruz gets a victory somewhere, wins a delegate somewhere we have to hear name calling and coming up with this kind of stuff. the truth is that senator cruz has a grass roots organization which he has put together and worked personally, talking to delegates in north dakota, utah, out in wisconsin, of course, in the primary and here in colorado. it's the process and senator cruz has put this team together. if donald trump spent time doing that and stopped name calling

maybe he would be in better shape. >> donald trump says not that ted cruz is winning delegates but they are engaged in under handed tactics. >> now they are trying to pick off delegates one by one. that is not the way democracy is supposed to work. they offer them trips. what kind of a system is this? >> is the cruz campaign offering delegates trips and other things for their votes? >> of course not. this is nonsense. it is senator cruz taking the time to meet personally with delegates as the process provides for and as grass roots organization which we have spent a tremendous amount of effort and resources on over the past

several months. this is the way it is. some delegates are elected and are not specifically for any candidate. it's up to the candidates to go and talk to the delegates. that's the way the process is. it's what you have to do. i can understand why trump is angry. he lost 12 elections in the last few weeks to senator cruz. he lost the last four with colorado now. instead of being out there and calling names and using all falsehoods he ought to be concentrating ongoing after delegates to win the nomination. >> just in the past two days the trump campaign has accused the cruz campaign of basically buying votes. they have accused the cruz campaign of intimidating delegates. is ted cruz going to respond to this and shut down some of these accusations? >> that's up to senator cruz to

respond. i certainly know it is not true. gestapo tactics is a pretty strong word. what are the tactics? talking to delegates and trying to get them to asking them if they will support senator cruz? that's the process. that is what you have to do to take 1,237 delegates to win. that is what senator cruz is doing. absolutely nothing wrong with it. sour grapes is what it is. >> does donald trump have a point? in most americans minds the way the primary process is supposed to work is that regular americans go to the polls and vote for the candidate of their choice. if you just look at it that way and look at the map donald trump should be winning. he is winning in the delegates and the popular vote. he has 2 million more votes than

ted cruz. does he have a point that the convoluted process that we have seen in colorado is not what most americans think of as democracy. >> this is just donald trump doing what he does best which is to make noise and to kind of make it look like we're doing something wrong. the truth is it's the united states of america, state by state from new hampshire to california over a period of months we elect our president. we do it by having elections and caucuses in state after state. depending on the state they have different methods of electing these delegates. sometimes by the popular vote, sometimes by caucus, sometimes elected as noncommitted and then candidates have to talk to them. these are the rules. there is nothing wrong with it. it is still a democratic process and the way the process works. the united states of america,

saved. you do. values in new york. he knows what we know, we are all in this together. >> not to be outdone front runner hillary clinton appearing at the greater allen ame church emphasizing her years representing the state on capitol hill speaking about how much she loved being a senator from new york and telling the co congregation and voters she wants to serve them again. >> when is the last time you talked about new york this way in a presidential race? who would have guessed it would become such a flash point? president obama doesn't talk a lot about the campaign let alone the scandals dogging hillary clinton but he did just that. the president says his administration is playing no role whatsoever in the justice department investigation into her e-mails. then the president went further.

athena jones live with more. what did the president say about what he thinks of the scandal? >> reporter: the president defended hillary clinton on this e-mail issue and seemed to down play the issue. he said even though she may have been careless he doesn't believe she put national security at risk when it comes to management of the e-mails. take a listen. >> i continue to believe that she has not jeopardized america's national security. what i have also said and she has acknowledged that there is a carelessness in terms of managing e-mails that she has owned and she recognizes. but i also think it is important to keep this in perspective. this is somebody who served her country for four years as secretary of state and did an

outstanding job. >> so the president saying she did an outstanding job. the other thing that is interesting is that he talked about the classification system echoing the words from the clinton team who argued this is a case of classification run amuck. other times not so much. we also heard from the president talking about hopes for the judge he picked to fill justice scalia's seat. it doesn't look like a vote is happening right now. there is a wall of republican opposition. the president said some republicans said they wouldn't sit down and meet with judge garland. we are seeing republicans meet including a breakfast meeting tomorrow with senator grassley. he is hoping there will be movement on that. the president was asked what is his biggest mistake as president. take a listen to what he had to

say. >> probably failing to plan for the day after what i think was the right thing to do in intervening in libya. >> naming libya as his biggest mistake, an area where the white house has come under a lot of criticism. the president has called libya a mess and used harsher firms because it has become a haven for isis. >> thank you so much for all of that. second degree murder charges filed against the suspect who allegedly shot and killed saints star will smith. cardell hayes being held. >> one of will smith's former teammates told me will was getting excited about his life

senator bernie sanders intensifying his attacks on hillary clinton questioning her judgment this after clenching his eighth victory in the last nine contests over hillary clinton this weekend in wyoming. will this war of words get uglier before thursday night's cnn debate? who better to discuss this with than team sanders coach. so one specific issue for the state of play.

in defense of hillary clinton's use of the word of predator or super predator in the context of the crime bill. >> i don't know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped up on crack and sent them out on the street to murder other african-american children. maybe you thought they were good citizens. she didn't. she didn't. you are defending the people who killed the lives you say matter. tell the truth. >> is former president clinton wrong? >> he is absolutely wrong. that term superpredator is racially coded term that was being used by conservative and right wing social scientists to describe a whole generation of young minority kids who were supposedly unsavable, just criminals. this was not a term used in

isolation. this was being used by the right wing and conservatives to slur a whole generation of african-americans. >> you are saying the president is changing the context and definition of what hillary clinton was referring to back then? >> i'm saying it was used in 1996 there was a social context. for him to defend it now as bernie sanders said is unacceptable. >> but where does bernie sanders want to take this? it goes down the road of bernie sanders saying that hillary clinton/bill clinton are bigots. is that where he wants to go? >> i will say that there is a history of what used to be triangulation on the part of the clintons whether the crime bill or welfare reform bill in 1996 which has increased the number of kids living in desperate poverty, voting for doma in the

same time period and running ads on christian radio, touting the fact that they supported doma or 2008 when they contacted elliot spitzer to try to got give undocumented drivers licenses. it is a history of triangulation and it is a troubling history and needs to be talked about. >> the senator voted for the same crime bill that the senator did. what is the ultimate point of this? they are in the same place on the same bill that the african-american community hate and think was directed to hurt them. why isn't the senator able to be painted with the same stink in. >> they weren't in the same place. when bernie sanders voted for the bill he went to the floor of the house and said this bill has a lot of terrible death

penalty -- we would be having a conversation. bernie sanders didn't go around talking about people being super predators to justify voting for that. voted for it for -- >> you can make that same defense for clinton. >> i don't think that is true. >> i don't think there is anything good in doma. this crime bill they supported this crime bill lock stock and barrel at the time. >> is it a fair comparison to say where secretary clinton was on doma. she feels differently about gay marriage. is that the functional equivalent of where sanders is now with gun manufacturers they he voted for a bill to give

protection that no other manufacturer of anything gets in this country. >> six that were put in the bill were almost impossible to pigeon hole. you see that resulting efforts to go after them. you basically can't go after gun manufacturers. now senator sanders says i have to know more about the situation. he will be hand cuffed by his own law. is that a functional equivalent? he evolved on the issue and now wants to look at gun manufacturers most. is that convenient? >> there is a difference between having a position and then getting new information to change. secretary and president clinton on doma did it for the purpose of winning an election to triangulate against the gay community. they ran ads in southern christian radio in the '90s. today they say they voted for it

because it was defensive measure for something else. people are saying that is not the case. in 2008 trying to make sure undocumented workers didn't get driver's licenses. it is a history of convenient triangulation against vulnerable people throughout her career. >> what is victory for the sanders campaign in new york state? what will you consider a victory short of victory? >> i think we have to do well here. i think the senator has to do well here. i don't think he has to win here. we have to win most states in the calendar coming up. we don't have to win every single one. the secretary represented new york twice in the u.s. senate and has a strong base here. there is no independence voting so it is less favorable terrain. i think senator sanders may do well here. we don't need to win to win. >> thank you very much. appreciate you being on "new

have a little bit of disagreement over the moral and ethical rules of this campaign. >> is he doing something that is not allowed? if he is paying for trips which is what donald trump has claimed this morning, is that allowed or not allowed? >> it shouldn't be allowed. the american people expected that they will be conducting themselves in a legal, moral and ethical sense. i don't see why we would accept as a country the fact that somebody can go buy off delegates. that's just not expected, certainly not expected. and i think it flies in the face of the truth that they want to present to the public. >> and do you think there is evidence that ted cruz is somehow paying for perks?

>> i don't know that. i'm not aware of it. >> when paul manafort tasked with getting delegates on the ground, when he said this weekend that ted cruz is not playing by the rules and that he has engaged in gestapo tactics what do you think he means by that? >> i think the press gets excited over the use of the term gestapo. it is descriptive that we are upset about it. i think you want to point it out to the public and use adjectives such as gestapo to illustrate that something in the minds of people it's wrong. i don't see why that is such a big deal. >> it is hard to think of a more

incendiary term than gestapo tactics. what does it mean? what is the cruz campaign doing wrong? >> that is the press focussing on a word rather than the major issues here. do we have competency in the candidates? who is most competent to be president of the united states? the language is nonsense. >> cruz's supporters say that all of this talk is just sour grapes and that donald trump is being outmaneuvered by ted cruz in this chess game that cruz has been playing for months and donald trump is playing catch up. >> we have watched cruz time in again go out over the edge and play games. that's been pointed out. i think donald trump has every right to bring it up and

team captains yesterday and he said it is unimaginable what happened to will smith. he was on his way back from a wedding. he said that could have been me in that vehicle with will smith. he is going to be sorely missed by the new orleans community. >> i'm trying to get christine brennan's shot back. let me stay with you until i do. this is a guy who is a rare commodity. christine, let me come to you with this. the idea that he was as much to the team and the community off the field as he was on it. true? >> absolutely. when you think of what we have talked about over the last couple of years, ray rice, that mons administ bad things in the nfl, the fact that most people never heard of him unless you are a big football fan or in new orleans. this man, the way he and his life were living their life

wrrks there is a will, there is a way, charity that helped at risk kids and families, christmas time, dozens of families he would host christmas dinner and take them to the saints practice facility. he was involved in almost all teammates charities. this was an exemplary human being. when we talk about the bad things in the nfl, will smith was one of the great things about the nfl. >> these pictures we are showing right now really make people remember what was lost here. forget about his stats. look at that wife and her love. look at those kids left without a father. christine, what do you make of this intrigue surrounding what kind of relationship may or may not have been present with the man who took his life? >> you know what, chris? it doesn't take away the facts that he is gone and that he was gunned down whether road rage or some premeditation. i think this is something we

will find out. but he is still gone and a community grieves. it is incredibly intriguing. even more sad if there was some reason for this. if this whole issue with the alleged killer and his connection to someone who will smith had been spending time with that night, that just makes it more awful. this will come out. right now we don't know a lot about it. but the story, the intrigue will continue. the tragedy remains and will never change. >> will smith is one of those guys who most people won't know. saints fans obviously know him very well and everything about him. defensive ends sometimes get a lot of attention, most often they don't. that is what makes the wide ranging reaction of saints and nonsaints people in the nfl and the extended family coming out

about will smith and saying what he meant to them. >> let's take a deeper look into some of that. you talked about the organizations that he helped with give back to the community. i spoke to one former teammate of will smith last night. he had just spoken to will the night before his death. he said of all of the things that you see he said of all those things there was so much more that he did that he didn't talk about, things to help under privileged youth because he was a humble guy. he didn't care about the self glory. he said i was supposed to walk in graduation with will in less than a month from now. he is pursuing an executive nba. how many former players have you heard of that pursue an executive nba degree? this guy was figuring out next steps in life. he was on a mission with his family, wife, beautiful children
