voters don't want to hear about this anymore. women voters in particular, certainly didn't like it then and won't like it now. they want to hear what she would do for them. that's why we saw the clinton campaign out there, secretary clinton talking about child care, health care, other things. they're trying to take the high road for now and believe that will work in the long term because they believe they have such a significant advantage among women voters and others. but there's that open question that donald trump is a unique candidate here. all of his attacks worked so well in the primary. but for now the clinton campaign believes and certainly secretary clinton believes "i'm not responding to him." she does not want to gelt drawn into this. the question is will bill clinton respond to this? he's been known to go off message. so, i'll be watching that in the coming days. >> and at some point they'll be

on a stage debating each other. we'll see how that goes. donald trump says he doesn't have a problem among women voters. >> he does at the moment. if he doesn't improve it, he can't win the white house in november. we asked registers voters, women, 61% to 35%. that's 26 points right there. it's near impossible. i can't figure out how you get elected president if this is your gender gap. president obama won in in a electeral college land slide. 55% voted for the president on election day. donald trump neesds to get somewhere in this territory or better than mitt romney. now, can he get there? he's got six months but as he tries, the horse race numbers can be changed but it's hard to change them when you have this number, which is only 34%, women

registered voters, only 34% view him favorably. he has a convention, he has six months to change it. can it be done? of course, but is he starting in a huge ditch? he is. >> he says there's a lot of time and hillary clinton has high unfavorables and this is much to do about nothing. >> hes said i just won the republican primaries, convincingly and that's a valid point. but republican primaries and the demographics are very different than a general election. they tend to be majority men. women are a small eer slice of e electorate. nevada, virginia, michigan, new york, pennsylvania. only in florida were women the majority of the voters and you see 48%, just over 50 in florida but in the general election, we

know from history it will be significantly different. 53% of the voters in 2012 on election day in november were women. 51% in michigan. look at the difference between the republican primary and the general election in new york. so, anderson, in november he's going to compete in an electorate that will be majority women and in some of them, if you look, 55, 55, 53. by a significant margin. so, you can't win the presidency with a 26-point gender gap. he has six months s but there'o doubt at the moment he has a problem. >> in the last hour, got pretty heated. and daily caller contribcontrib matt lewis. mary catherine, let's start off with you. it just feels like this is just the beginning of this kind of discussion?

as we've been reporting, it's a crucial moment for the republican party with a critical meeting just days away. donald trump will meet with gop leaders in washington, including paul ryan, he said on cnn last week that he's not ready yet. he's not alone, not by a long shot. tonight the gop's party divided from the grass roots to its leaders. >> reporter: as the grand ole party churns in term oil, he's reminding gop voters chose him for a reason. >> i have people that i'm representing. they're unbelievable people, they're loyal, they're smart, sharp. they're tired of being abused. >> reporter: and some establishment republicans are getting on board. today, terry of iowa, the longest serving governor in u.s. history.

media is that donald trump just does well with the cultural christians, the ones that show up on easter or christians but there's lot more to it. weekly church goers are a big part of trump's evangelical attraction and that's the dirty secret a lot of folks in the media don't want to talk about. >> in your oped, you take a look at the history of the church through the '50s, the '60s, their response to the civil rights movement. why is that important to look at given the context of this race. >> many think old, angry white people, when in fact it's far broader than that. we're a multigenerational, multiethnic revolution of the gospel of jesus christ. a church that i knew of that

said nothing during the civil rights movement, when you had literally down the road from that church little girls being blown apart by terrorists in this country and the church had nothing to say about issues of racial justice and then later, when the church tried to rooech african american people in the community, they found the community didn't want to hear from them and rightly so because they said when you had the opportunity to speak up, you said nothing. i think we're in a similar moment right now when we see the race baiting and the misogyny we've seen all of this year. if you have people not willing to say the things we have said about decency and morality, that applies to everyone, not just our political opponents, we don't have credibility left for the future. >> do you hear that debate? >> i hear some of that for sure. the bottom line is donald trump has work to do as it relates to mobilizing those grass roots,

>> we estill have the watches, which have bing issued across portions of the deep south. this is typically what is known as tornado alley. you can see the impressive tornado. now, they'll send out crews looking that damage associated with this. this is to the south of oklahoma city. a fantastic tornado for the most part, this is a fairly sparsely populated area. but they are saying there are plenty of power outages. we have 2 or 3,000 reports of power outages but a number of homes have been destroyed across this region. estimates are between 5 and 1000 homes destroyed. there are still tornado watches out but they have shifted to the east. areas around little rock one of the areas that could be effected boo ithe strong to severe storms overnight and across north central sections of texas, this is where we have tornado wanchings in effect. that means they've either been spotted or there have been

reports or they have been indicated on doppler radar. as we go into the next 24 hours, kansas city, st. louis, little rock, nashville, memphis, we're looking at the major cities that could see the potential for severe weather. back to you. >> that's something they actually call it because it's fantastic from a non-weather standpoint. >> they were able to -- the storm spotters were able to see this, capture it on video. they could see the debris field associated with this and they will probably make estimates as to what the scale, an enhanced and they'll say probably assess at an ef 3 or 4 most likely. >> unbelievable the pictures. let's just hope everybody stays safe throughout the night. and the weather is starting to help the 700 firefighters working on the massive fire in

canada. it's 700 miles north of helena, montana. it can be seen from space. they're simply devastating. 90,000 people evacuated. 400,000 acres burned. the fire zero percent contained. the pictures show just how bad it is. now, describe for us some of what you saw today, dan. >> reporter: hey, anderson, i have korved a lot of wild fires and this ranks up there with the worst devastation i've ever seen. the first is beacon hill, your typical middle class neighborhood. it has dozens, if not hundreds of homes. i didn't see a single one standing. pretty much the same thing at the second neighborhood we went to. homes burned down to their foundations. twisted metal and wreckage, things of that nature. another thing that struck me as we were driving around the town was the landscape.

alberta is very pretty during this time of year and there are so many burned out trees that it's everywhere and it's going to take a long time for the lush greenery to come back in certain places. >> are residents still without shelter? what is it like for them? >> reporter: this is a terrible situation for residents. you're talking nearly 90,000 people who have been forced to evac jot. and right now there's no power, gas, or clean water and i spoke to a single mother of two children and she has servical cancer. she's staying at a friend's cottage and look what she had to say. >> and you don't know when we can go back and when you're going to see your kids again. it's tough. you just try to do the best you can. just try to stay positive and tell them everything's going to be okay but really you don't
