disappear over the mediterranean sea. it had 59 passengers on board, ten crew members. it took off at 10 local time in paris. we are hearing from authorities, they are waiting to get the information to confirm the information before they give it to us. right now, we don't know what the cause of if there was a crash, what the cause of that would be. right now, we don't know where the plane is. authorities haven't told us where the plane is, that is the priority. >> we have said this was an air
9:03 pm
dplt bus, we have it on the screen, the aircraft that is now missing, authorities giving any information, what do we know? >> we know it was an a-320, 45 minutes ago. egyptair has been updating on a regular basis what has been taking place. letting us know when they -- what has happened. they are going to be looking for a range of possibilities, of what could have happened to this plane, everything from foul play, they are not ruling anything out at this moment. they are trying to locate this
9:04 pm
plane. for them, that is their main priority. saying that this plane was traveling at 37,000 feet when it disappeared. really high up in the air. if it did have a problem at that altitude, as we have seen in other plane crashes, the search area can be very wide. right now, waiting for them to locate the plane, tell us where they plane is, if they can find the plane, and if it did crash, it would have crashed into the mediterranean, we can expect some sort of water search, egyptian navy and coast guard involved there. >> to the time line, exactly what we know. the flight out of paris, at 11:09 p.m., paris is in the same
9:05 pm
time zone as cairo. four-hour long flight. scheduled to land at 3:05, we are told by the airline, they lost contact at 2:45 a&m 20 minutes before it was due to touch down. it was at 37,000 feet, as you say. 10 minutes into egyptair space. this plane would be coming into the airport and right now, if you do the math, it is coming up to three hours overdue. >> it seems like it will be a search for a downed plane. three hours overdue is unlikely anything else could have happened. i have been on this flight path many times, if they haven't
9:06 pm
started, they will start to plan, over the medterraini, i hd major terb bans coming into cairo from paris, it has always been a fairly smooth flight. these are all things they are going to look into. all of these possibilities, what happened, to could have happened to this flight. to know what exactly happened. three hours after it was supposed to land, i don't think anyone can think anything else, then it has crashed into the
9:07 pm
ground. >> dealing with authorities in cairo, not the most forthcoming with information, i am wondering if that is one of the difficulties we will be coming up against in the next couple of hours, trying to get information from the airline? is that your experience? >> yes, when the jet, over 200 people were killed, the plane was blown up by isis. the authorities were not forthcoming with information. the national carrier provided some information, it wasn't their plane, but they werie providing information. they have been better when a plane was hijacked, a couple of
9:08 pm
months ago. authorities were giving us more information, keeping us up to date on what was going on. we are hoping that we do get more information from the authorities this time as well. we will have to wait to see. right now, egyptair has been good at putting out information to the media. they have been cautious about leading to any conclusions at this point. >> you were in cairo, where it was due to land. if are you getting any information about the scene at the airport, loved ones, friends and family, awaiting those, what you are hearing of on that situation? >> right now, at the airport, there are friends and family members there, waiting to hear.
9:09 pm
>> i think we lost him. the scene that has been repeated over the years, the search and rescue teams have been sent out. the chairman of egyptair holdings, he joins us on the line. captain, can you tell us any more information about this flight, the route, anything that you think may have happened to this flight? >> good morning, sir. i can give you, an air bus from
9:10 pm
9:11 pm
>> mr. abdel, we understand that certain search and rescue teams have been deployed. what that operation looks like? >> we are waiting for information. we just hope, an hour ago. should be coming in the next hour. >> you are saying, at the scene, what do you mean? >> where the aircraft lost contact. they were dispatched. >> can you tell us precisely
9:12 pm
where that area would be? >> this area is around the border, between athens -- >> you say daylight is just breaking now, any sightings of anything? >> not yet. daylight broke an hour ago. they are able to see where. where they lost contact, they will have information in the next hour. >> there was a distress call from the plane, it simply disappeared from radar. and one said, it faded from radar, what can you tell us about that?
9:13 pm
on the radar. [ inaudible ] >> the captain and the first officer, as you laid out for us, had 6,000 flight hours for the captain. and the co-captain, 4,000. what can you tell us about their history with egyptair? >> the next of kin are informed. we will have an update maybe within an hour. >> before we let you go, could you confirm for us the number of people on board?
