officials say there is no confirmation of distress call, or notification of any cargo or dangerous goods on board. >> right now, they are sgrthing the family members, we haven't been given access to that area, they are gathering the family members in an area. give them the latest. egyptian officials, the search and rescue operation is taking place about 40 to 50 miles north of the egyptian coast. that is where they believe this plane has crashed. that would be in the

mediterranean. no word yet if they have found anything. officials are telling us they have all the resources available that can search for this plane, they have put it into that search. right now, it really is a waiting game. trying to see what they are able to come up with. what they are able to find. it is excruciating for the family members. 56 passengers, we don't know the nationalities of the passengers, what other nationalities on this plane. one child, they are telling us, they did not receive a distress call from the pilot.

everything was going normal. until the plane disappeared from radar. we are hearing, there wasn't any hazardous material on board or anything that they would notify the pilot b all intents and purposes, it seemed like a normal flight. egyptair saying this plane had all the regular maintenance. everything was on schedule. the pilot it is -- the pilots, great experience on this aircraft. the cause of the crash is unknown. figuring out where that plane is, what would have caused the

pilots try to trouble shoot. they may have been battling some sort of mechanical problem. maybe didn't make a may day call, they know only they can solve the problem. i am not convinced. 37,000 feet, you get down in eight or ten minutes. you wouldn't necessarily make a radio call. i am speculating, ladies and gentlemen. until we find wreckage, i haven't given up. everything is on the table, as they say this early in the

investigation. at 37,000 feet, what level of complexity are we talking about? >> it was eight night. that always complicates things. broad daylight, on a calm air field, it would be challenging endeavor to say the least. pilots -- again, i don't want to raise false hopes, that is the most likely scenario. until you find wreckage or a fuel slick, something like that i am sure the search and rescue people are looking for an intact

to the ground to a third party provider. we know that in certain situations, it will start too transmit. air france 447 showed this. there were 24 faults happened when the plane failed and they were all transmitted out. without knowing the setting that egypt had their their system, we can't make a judgment on that. however, i expect that if the plane started to fail in the air, as a result of put pel failures, akoss would have sent up data. 447 is a starnd case that shows the information is is not out. >> you don't know the settings

days will be critical. >> there are procedures well put in place by the united nations body on aviation. there are procedures that are clear on what airline has to do. the first thing they have been doing, of course, will be verifying the integitiy of the manifest. making sure the names of the passengers, several on board with stolen pass portds. with the report criticized the fact that the manifest doesn't reflect the name of the passengers, along the line.

there may number a major member of star alliance. connecting passengers, before you start publishing the passenger list, that it is right. and the passengers families have been informed. making arrangements for people to travel to the region. care and control. and psychological issues. every airline has in place well-practiced procedures, in this day and age, if they fail, there is no excuse.

this is the latest news we have. egyptair flight eight 4, officials say the plane probably crashed into the sea. >> there is no confirmation of a distress call. 37,000 feet when it vanished, the egyptian armed forces are working with greece. one canadian as well on board. 56 passengers, two passengers, one child, we are told three security personnel on board, five cabin crew and two pilots, the captain, and the first officer were in the cab bin when the plane disappeared.
