>> even though it's not raining that much at the moment, the river flooding is a delayed effect so it takes a little longer before it peaks. here is a look at what we have going on in the texas area. this will be as we progress through the day. notice we have more showers and thunderstorms, even the potential for severe weather impacting this weather going into portions of the day. the area between houston and san angelo, texas, is where we've really had the bulk of the rain. we're also following tropical storm bonnie. again, we want to give you a little idea of that. as we zoom in a little closer, some areas of concern would be charleston, and wilmington. you get a pressure gradient. the winds get strong. that can also lead to very bad rip currents, and we know at least one person at this hour that is missing off the north

carolina coast, a missing swimmer. for more details on the rip currents and other issues, we turn now to jennifer gray. jen? >> reporter: you're right. a lot of times when we talk about tropical systems it's the flooding, the wind. we have people that come to the beaches from all over the country and we get that really strong east wind, it's going to bring in the rip currents. when the weather starts to improve later today and especially tomorrow, as long as the east wind is still driving in, people need to be very, very careful with the rip currents. right now we're getting breezy conditions. the storm is still about 60 miles offshore. it is going to make landfall later today. we could get anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of rain. isolated amounts up to 6. ali? >> we'll continue to have more

updates coming up for you in a little bit. >> we certainly appreciate it. thank you both. now, let's get to this disturbing story. this is out of cincinnati where officers say they were -- officials say they were forced to kill a gorilla in order to save a young boy's life. >> engine 32, we're going a second run to the cincinnati zoo. this is the gorilla cage and a 3-year-old child has fallen into the gorilla cage and the gorilla is slamming the child into the wall and the child is in the water. the zoo's director said that's when the gorilla dragged him, hit him against the wall. we have more. >> reporter: a 4-year-old boy climbed through a small opening and fell roughly ten feet into the enclosure.

>> there was a lot of panic. >> this is older video of the gorillas. he just turned 17 yesterday, according to the website. he picked up the boy who was splashing in the moat. a family who witnessed it called it horrific. they asked us not to show their faces. >> he was being dragged by the gorilla. he took him to his habitat and the boy was screaming. >> theyw weighed options to sav the boy. the gorilla weighed 400 pounds. families nearby were wondering what was going on. >> we love the zoo. it's very friendly and everything is beautiful here but when you see something like that and you have the disappointment because what do you say to your grandchildren. >> reporter: medics say it

lasted for 10 to 15 minutes. while they removed two others, he still had the boy. >> he was down there witnessing him being thrown in the air and the gorilla climbed up the ladder with him. ult matdly the team shot and killed him. the zoo say it had to be done to save the boy's life. >> it's a sad day all the way around. it's the right choice, a difficult choice. well, friends and family are mourning the death of an nba player, dijon jones. >> they say he was killed after he kicked open a man's door. agents say he was on the wrong floor and kicked in the wrong apartment. >> we have more of the details. >> dijon jones only played 14

gingrich. let's look back. the last time serious legislation was passed, bill clinton was president. bill clinton was speaker of the house. in that way, if dole thinks trump would win, newt gingrich would be an amazing pick. >> let me ask you. i mean talk about going back to that era, if you have gingrich fighting against the clintons again, how does this change the calculation for the clinton campaign if he were to be a pick. >> the '90s are back for sure. he had to resign because he had lost the support of his colleagues. they were going to toss him out. first of all, he had egtsices violations against him, which is not great, which he ended up being found guilty of, and the ethics was using his political

influence for gain. the thing that gingrich -- why he lost the speak eshership and he was forced to rae sign is because he had pushed the lewinsky scandal so hard he had vast vastly underestimated the impact it would have on the voters. so he doesn't really have a good handle on it. he definitely has been here before, but he vastly overestimates scandals. >> that introduces one other aspect senator dole talked about. he said hillary clinton has baggage going into this race. donald trump has baggage also. >> oh, certainly. it was interesting to hear bob

dole criticized bill clinton and say he could almost be a negative factor on the campaign trail. now, i'm a conservative. i'm by no mean as fan of the clinton campaign. i mean bill clinton is one of the most positive dross and is not going to be a hindrance on the campaign trail. >> i assume he expects him to be apologizing to the new mexico governor or john mccain. >> i do not see that. think what he's trying to do is what a lot of people are trying to do. they're trying to pick and choose pieces trump has done and then said, the rest of it is not real. just go in and apologize and that will all be fine, but people are sort of projecting the pieces they like and the

pieces they think they can just wash away and i think that's what dole's doing here but i do not foresee it happening, so -- >> kevin, what do you glean from the existence of these phone callsing. >> bob dole says he and trtrump reached out tall. >> there was this talk about third party or conservative alternative. i think you're beginning to cease this group coalesce around trump and they're proactively reach out. you saw rubio coming on board this week. >> you talk about the group coalescing around donald trump. i mean bob dole is the most recent president or nominee who has endorsed him. you have to go back 20 years to find one. >> for sure. >> so there isn't like a coalescing. there's bob dole. >> there's bob dole, but you're starting to see rank-and-file republicans, reluctantly albeit. they're saying, you know what?

he's our party. i don't think you see a legitimate option. unfortunately for a lot of republicans who are going to have to do it, they're going to hold their nose and vote for trump because they can't stand the thought of hillary clinton and the corruptness she brings to the white house. >> emily, mr. dole called for donald trump to tone down the rhetoric and the attacks. it seems to have worked for him in the early phase of the campaign. there's a lot of reports, inability to find their footing and how to respond to some of these attacks. >> i think the hillary clinton campaign hasn't really been trying to respond to his effects. >> do you think it's effective? >> i think it is effective. i don't think it's effective if you're trying to figure out who is the next president of reality tv. ultimately people do not want somebody who lives in the mud. what he has been very effective

argument that super delegates should come over to his side. that's kind of a far-fetched scenario. the more realistic is that the parties would come together. so i want to talk first about, kevin, this tweet from donald trump where he writes don't believe the biased and voting media. the only quote that matters is a quote from me. so we've heard donald trump say he's going to appoint some of the best people, smartest people to be in his administration, are we going to if, hypothetically, trump does win and he's in the white house, are we going to hear from those people? is he going have some sort of a voice or do we have to wait? >> i think we really don't know. it's donald trump rewriting the rules as he continues to do.

when they say what he wants them to say, they're right. if they don't, they're not listening to him. if he's president, he'll going to have a cabinet and people speaking on serious issues. i think that's what we were talking about. bob dole is pressing him to change a little bit because some of the tactics that worked on the campaign trail this far are -- >> do you agree with that? >> i think absolutely. the tone and tenor of the campaign is going to have to shift a little bit. >> and do you trust it will? >> i think that's up to the american people to decide. i think right now he's surging in poles. i don't think people ultimately love donald trump that much. i think they dis-like hillary clinton so much, they don't trust her. they're looking at what's happening on the democratic side and their process is rig and that's helping donald trump. >> we're going to talk about that in a minute. i do want to talk about bernie sanders.

he's on "meet the press." and he's warning that her pick for running mate will be critical for his supporters. listen to this. >> that means having a candidate who can excite working families, excite young people, bring them into the political process, create a large voter turnout. and when we do that, we're going to win the election. so i would hope if i'm not the nominee, that the vermontal candidate will not be from wall street l be somebody who has a history of standing up and fighting for working families. >> okay. so obviously credit where credit is due, he was asked a question and he answered it. certainly kudos. harlan, i'm wondering. for a man who has vowed to stay in this race all the way through the convention, he is not backing up, why would he have a conversation and give thoughts as to who the vice president should be if hillary clinton is the nominee? >> well, i think he's actually

really speaking to a screen of thought athought democrats that hillary clinton needs to really pay more than just lip service to sanders supporters and people who are discontent with the establishment. i mean frankly we remember that she has a 30-year track record of lies and deceit and fraud. she's a flawed candidate. we remember her stance on nafta before she enabled it. we remember decades of her husband. >> it's not as though he has this thing wrapped up. he has this nomination wrapped snup yeah, sure, absolutely. >> he's vowed to fight to the end. so i'm wondering why he would even entertain that thought. >> well, to be honest, he continues to fight to the end, and i think he may be the last man standing if she's indicted which is not a foregone conclusion, but we'll see. >> yeah, no. >> it's certainly possible. >> okay. >> at this point --

hillary clinton. here's the truth. you would think with such my negatives for both hillary clinton and donald trump that a serious third-party challenger would have a shot. right now the third-paired looks like gary johnson. on paper he looks like a great candidate but in all reality, he's unpopular. he doesn't have what it takes to be president. even though they have a serious shot, i think you're going to see the libertarians fall flat again. they don't have the candidates and the charisma that it take sthoos they're pulling much higher this time around than they have before. harlan, i want to give you a chance to react to that and polls that we show unfavorables in the 50th percentile and above for both candidates. >> without question it's not a good place to be in if you're hillary clinton or donald trump.

living nightmare. cnn's john jenson joins us from abu dhabi. what do we know about the trial? >> the men, mohammed and kam kamel eldarat, two successfuls bymen in dubai are accused of engaging in things in libya. and tice associated with the muslim brotherhood. you'll remember that the eeae has been very harsh on its crackdown. now, the family, it should be said, denies these charges saying that both member were tortured and forced into signing confessions. the daughter and sister of the two men telling me her nightmare began in august 2014.

that's when she says security agents went into her villa in dubai and they stormed in without an arrest warrant, taking both men. locking her in a room for an hour and a half as they confiscated all of the family's electronics. the two men were held incommune caddo for several months. we've spoken with officials swhie the father and brother are being treated in accordance with the fair standards. human rights advocates say not so much citing incredible amounts of tore tu. the real question is how much is the u.s. pressuring its biggest ally in the middle east behind the scenes. the state department has voiced concerns. the family tells me everyone could be doing more. >> again, they call this a living nightmare.

they're the first group of active duty and wounded servicemembers to reach the summit of mt. everest. >> they did this this week for several reasons. one to show that it's possible for a wounded veteran to spot those suffering from ptsd and to remember the friends they've lost. >> to be honest with you, it was an incredible experience. honestly, it was probably the most challenging thing i've ever done in my life. we were facing many different challenges from unbelievably freezing temperatures. it dropped down all the way to 20 with high gusting winds we were faced with. definitely a challenge and very, very glad to be back down here at base camp all safe and sound. >> i know you're not doing this just for the fun of it. there is a purpose and passion for it behind you. i know usx is trying to shed light on the battle of veterans with ptsd.

>> yes, ma'am. >> those who suffer, do they accompany you on this trip? >> yes, they do. we have one, chad jukes, an amputee who lost part of his leg. he has an inspiring story. the reason we're climbing is for those suffering with post traumatic stress and suicide. there are a lot of soldiers out there struggling. so our main mission wasn't just to summit mt. everest. our real mission was to raise awareness, that 22 veteran days commit suicide. >> i was talking to lieutenant earls there that you, staff sergeant chad jukes, are one of the only men on your team that had actually served. is that right? >> yes. i'm the only one that -- only member of our team who was a veteran who has served and has been active in the military.

>> i want to ask yo fr. your perspective, what was it like to get up that mountain. >> you know, climbing mt. everest was a phenomenal experience. it was really great to stand on top and to do it in this fashion with usx made it more important. i was able to represent many veteran veterans who have suffered with post-traumatic stress. i have been able to raise the issue of post-traumatic stress and suicide onto the national stage. our national leaders have not been discussing veterans' issues to the extent necessary. people talk about problems, but nobody talks about what we have to do to properly fund the department of veterans affairs and get veterans the help that they need. >> could you ever have imagined yourself doing something like

this, specifically with a prosthetic leg and after everything you've already been through. >> yeah. i'm also asked how can i climb mt. everest with one leg and my answer is that's the only way i can climb it. i've considered climbing it in the past. as a matter of fact, i chose to have my leg amputated so i could continue to climb, but it was still very unreal to stand on top of mt. everest and realize i was actually there looking up on that mountain, it's so imposing and large, it was a surprising and phenomenal accomplishment. >> it is and we thank them for their service. usx says this is obviously a huge feat. they have more challenges but they will not dish. i asked what's coming and they

three the blistering heat of the summer through the frigid chill of the cold winter months. first we want to bring you breaking news of the morning. three people in texas dead, four others in other states are missing, including a 10-year-old boy who was swept away by a river saturday while fishing with his friends. emergency rescue teams are set to continue the search for your the little boy this morning, of course. we're also learning a number of highwater rescues are ongoing in bandera county, texas, where some areas have gotten more than t 10 inches of rain so far.

allison chinchar has more. >> the rescue that's going on is going to be your rivers, creeks, and streams. new rainfall isn't going to be the biggest threat. now we take a look specifically at one ruv that is just on the northwest side of houston. this is where we currently are in terms of it. here you see we hit a peek and go back down. now we're going back up due to more rain. the record high is at the top. this whole red stated area is at flood stage. that could happen going forward because the rivers are expected to rise. here's a look at the radar. again, going forward here's a look at more rain in texas. the heaviest areas has been in

houston toward the san angelo area. you can see that area will get more rain yet today. another area of concern is also in the tropics where we're taking a look at troch cal storm bonnie. now, again, looking at the floor, this is what we're dealing with is the tropical storm. but the problem is as the wind shifts in between the high and low pressure, it pushes a lot of the water into the coast notice around hilton head and savannah. it's pushing it way from the coast. when you have that, you end up getting very dangerous rip currents. >> all right. good to know. alis al alley son chin car, thanks for the update. live pictures here of myrtle beach. the main concern here a rip current. we're told a swimmer is missing. let's get to jennifer gray in south carolina for us. how's the weather where you are?

>> reporter: well, victor, we are getting off-and-on showers, the winds are gusty at times, but you're exactly right. normally with these showers we talk about the flooding rains, storm surge and winds. i think the impacts are going to be pretty low, and so the biggest concern will be those rip currents. people travel to this part of the country from all over and they're not familiar with rip currents, and so when the wlf starts to improve later this evening, they're going to want to get to the beaches because they've been stuck inside. they'll want to get in the water, which is a bad idea, especially when you have a strong east wind, especially along the north carolina coast as we go through the afternoon. so this storm is going to be pushing as we go through the afternoon. conditions should improve a little later today. in fact, you notice, the cruise ship behind me, it's actually scheduled to leave later this afternoon around 4:00 headed for the bahamas. on schedule there. you're right, victor.

the weather is having small impacts but the rip currents are deadly. >> jennifer gray, thank you so much. let's take you to cincinnati and this disturbing story where officials were forced to kill a gorilla in order to save a young boy's life. >> engine 32 we're getting a second run to the cincinnati zoo and this is in the gorilla cage. and a 3-year-old child has fallen into the gorilla cage. >> this started when the child was visiting the zoo yesterday and was able to slip away from his parents into that zoo enclosure. that's when the gorilla grabbed the boy and dragged him through the water. we get more now from wkrc. >> reporter: a 4-year-old boy climbed through a small opening and fell 10 feet to the enclosure. >> there was a lot of panic. >> reporter: this is older footage. harambe who just turned 17 years

old yesterday according to the zoo's website, picked up the boy who was splashing in the moat. a family who witnessed it called it horrific. they asked us not to show their faces. >> we knew he was being grabbed. the gorilla took the boy to his habitat and the little boy started skreechling again. >> reporter: they weighed options to save the boy. harambe weighed more than 400 pounds. he could have easily killed the small child. while the team was working to stop the threat families nearby were wondering what was going on. >> we love the zoo. 80s very friendly. everything is beautiful here. but when you see something like that and then you have the disappointment because what do you say to your grandchildren. >> reporter: medics say the incident lasted 10 to 15 minutes while the zoo workers removed two other gorillas, harambe still had the boy.

he was shot when kicking open a bedroom door. his agent says this was an accident. he went to the wrong apartment. we speak with ed lavandera. ed, help us understand this. we were told by the agent he thought this was his girlfriend's apartment, is that right? >> yeah. that's what the agent is telling us. it was early in the morning, around 3:00 in the morning. a 23-year-old play e for the new york's pe new orleans pelicans thought he was going into his girlfriend's apartment. turns out he was entering and kicked the door into the apartment right below his girlfriend's apartment and that the resident in that apartment who hasn't been named yet called out to dejean-jones and then shot him and then dejean-jones stumbled back out into the breezeway outside of the apartment, collapsed to the ground. he later was taken to the hospital where he died from the wounds. but his agent said, victor, he

was essentially at the wrong place at the wrong place. still many questions swirling around this. also, it's not clear if the resident in that apartment shot dejean-jones. there are states where deadly force can be used when someone inside their home fears for their life. so that investigation will continue to play out here today in dallas. >> some important details still unknown. we'll look for those. ed lavandera. thanks so much. >> you got it. bob dole, former presidential nominee and senator has something to say about the presidential elections. he talks a lot about subjects and tells us for one hillary clinton has a tough task ahead. >> i think hillary has a lot of baggage, and while she doesn't admit it, it's there.

17 minutes past the hour, and in an interview with cnn, bob dole, former republican presidential nominee and senator has had several things to say about this race that we've been watching. >> yes. what dole thinks donald trump should do to win and hillary clinton's path to the white house may be an uphill battle. listen. >> one of my closest two or three friends is john mccain, around i'm going to try to get trump to issue an apology. this young man at the time did everything that you would want a

serviceman to do above and beyond the call of duty. that's the one area that i hope nominee trump would do is start hone i honing down his ready. there's nothing wrong with apologizing to the governor of new mexico or john mccain. i can already see a sort of a shift in trump's tone, and he needs to start talking about he's about to be president. the only way to turn people around is to, you know, meet with them and speak with them and lay out a plan that's attractive to them. not always we're going to kick everybody out of the country. he's called me twice.

he called me last week, said he'd be calling me again this week. we just had a nice visit, a nice suggested maybe lower the rhetor rhetoric. i put a plug in for newt gingrich. i know newt. i watched -- newt and i didn't always get along in congress, but i've watched newt the past essentially months, and i believe he'd be a real asset. hillary has a lot of baggage, and while she doesn't admit it, it's there. bill clinton would be a great asset, but he's had this health problem but doesn't look strong and robust like he has been. i don't think you can have a

shared presidency, even though you trust your wife, and i assume she trusts him. you know, i believe jeb is man of integrity and honesty. i just hope he keeps his word when he said he would support the nom nancy. i know trump didn't make it very easy for him because of all the things he said about jeb, but jeb is bigger than that. >> all right. there's a lot there. so let's unpack it and bring in the south region aal director. gentlemen, welcome you do both. >> good to be here. >> good morning. >> brian, i want to start with you. what is the potency 20 years after the senate and dole lost the election. what's the potency of the

climate? >> i bet in 2016 dole's name has dropped precipitously from 20 years ago. millennials have no idea who dole is. clinton is going to face this as well mchlt people voting for bernie sanders have no idea who these guys are. you can definitely see he's, you know, probably close to his 90s now, so i don't think that it's going to be a huge mover and shaker within republican politics and how we're viewing it going forward. >> you know, listen. bob dole is a war hero and a great american but i agree totally with brian. i think if anything he's sort of dated. all these millennials have to do is ask their parents. these people benefitted from the clinton years. i disagree totally. i've seen bill clinton on the trail. he's vibrant. going city to city drawing big

cro crowds. >> dolces americans are look nr a fresh face. >> i think clinton is a fresh face. >> 25 years in national politics. >> first time running for president. >> they think she's an outsider. it's her second sometitime. >> i believe people are looking for experience. i think ultimately she's going to be history -- she's going to be able to make history by being the first woman nominee and ultimately i think she'd make history by being the -- >> there's nobody with a fresher face than hillary clinton. >> in the same conversation he suggests newt gingrich for the vp slot.

reconcile those two for me. >> it's the exact same issue. we have a ticket that would be two white guys in their 70s or around their 70s. and one thing that gingrich does do is he would bring some policy heft and some intellectualism that has bullet a culture personality around one person. now, i've never known newt gingrich to play second fid toll anyone. i think it would be a difficult fit for newt, but i think people are pushing for him. i do think there's a lot of interest there. and one thing that we're looking at here in georgia is many democrats are looking at our state as a takeover opportunity to turn it purple, and if newt is the vp candidate, georgia is off the map. and so that would change the democratic strategy somewhat. >> i agree. newt gingrich is a georgia boy. i think he is totally opposite of what trump is proposing. if you look at newt gingrich, he's valued as the person who

represented the conservative part of the party. trump is the exact opposite of that. i think to brian's point, you're not going to see two strong-willed individuals get along on ticket. but ultimately to your point f you're going to criticism bill and hillary as being old, not fresh faces, it doesn't get any older than newt gingrich. so i think the trump campaign is going to have to be very careful. >> if he picks him, does it change who clinton will pick sth. >> no. i think the vetting process has started with the clintons. they'ring looking at possible candidates. you've got people like governor deval patrick. to brian's point, you'll have two white men at the top of their ticket that doesn't represent america. america is a country that's changing every single day. we're changing demographics. it's getting browner and browner every single day. it will play right into the hands of the clinton campaign.

we know they're very, very capable of oning elections as opposed to we know republicans often fumble the ball. >> you don't want a v.p. candidate who's sadly on the stop. when you're constantly barraged with how can you defend trump on this or that, newt knows,000 pivot back on the message and he might be helpful to the trump campaign to get a message. >> also bob dole added his name to a long list of republicans who refused to come out publicly and endorse donald trump. >> come on. that's what he does. >> he's endorsed him. >> i'm just saying it's a lot of this sort of dissension within the republican party. i think newt gingrich and bob dole doesn't help bring people to the table. one thing that was pointed out is bob dole pointed out very herbally the decisiveness.

>> will he have to apologize for some of the statements he made, not only to new mexico governor martinez but to john mccain. will he have to apologize? we're talking memorial day weekend. that's part of the reason we had the conversation with former senator dole. >> this is someone who has said he has never prayed to god for forgiveness because he never sinned. if he's saying he'd never apologize to god, why would he apologize to anyone. he has this brand. that's his brand. to apologize to change his tone, to be more civil as former senator dole is saying would hurt the brand he has built and brand that has worked. >> what do you glean from the series of these conversations? senator dole has said he's spoken twice. you've got this outsider who has railed against the party at least in the early to middle part of the primaries.

now that he's wrapped up, he's reached out to one party elder. all other republican presidents and nominees say they're not going support him, so i guess he has this one. >> he's got a lot of them coming on board. rubio has said he would support him. first ben carson and -- >> but i was speaking specifically about republican presidents and nominees. it's just bob dole. >> oh, yeah, yeah. i think we can safely say that the bushes are not going to come out and support trump. i mean if anybody said the things that trump said about the bush family, about my family, it would go well beyond politics as far as how i reacted to it. >> but one of the weaknesses trump has, he doesn't have a campaign structure. he's basically running out of money. he's trying now to get structure together. that's something the bushes grout the table. even mitt romney to his credit. right now what you see to trump

almost 32 minutes past the hour. good morning to you. i'm christi paul. >> i'm victor black well. thanks for joining us this sunday morning. no rest for bernie sanders. he's campaigning hard for the biggest prize left this season, california, of course. he holds two rallies today in the golden state, focusing lately, it seems, on donald trump and how trump backed out on the sanders debate, of course. we're joined from washington. eric, wondering what is the intention of the strategy here in targeting trump rather than hillary clinton knowing the numbers in california have that race almost in a toss-up. it is close. >> yeah. it's interesting because hillary clinton is obviously the immediate challenge right now and yet bernie sanders is talking about donald trump. i think the prospect of a debate

with trump was like this one final opportunity to really command a ton of media attention and really get his message out in a big way. he's sort of enjoyed the back and forth on that. he also knows that trump is sort of a unifying enemy for democrats, right. showing he's strong against trump is something sanders thinks could help turn out votes in california but also helps his argument going into the democratic convention to super delegates that he is, in fact, the best positioned candidate to take on donald trump. so we know bernie sanders is fight behind the scenes, working on dnc rules and appointments and that kind of thing. and his taking on trump reflects the calculation that super delegates are going to be really tuned in to what's the best way the party can take on trump in no november.

>> okay. so essentially you're saying it was a smart move for trump to dismiss this -- this debate even though a lot of people came out and said but why did you say you'd do it and not do it. bernie is using that a lot. but at the end of the day, trump is a smart business guy and knows that would give sanders a lot of ears. >> he wants to use it against hillary clinton in november, and that's not a big shocker. trump has said so on the campaign trail. he admits that bernie sanders makes a lot of good points that he plans to use against hillary clinton. so it would have been quite surprising to see trump put himself in position to be sort of having to argue with this guy who he's saying he kind of agrees with on at least his criticism of hillary clinton. >> this is interesting. bernie sanders is talking so much about trump, but this morning on "meet the press," he is warning hillary clinton that her pick for running mate is going to be critical for winning over his supporters.

let's listen. >> that means having a candidate who can excite working families, excite young people, bring them into the political process, create a large voter turnout. and when we do that, we're going to win the election. so i would hope if i am not the nominee that the vice-presidential candidate will not be from wall street, will be somebody who has a history of standing up and fighting for working families. >> now, in his defense, he was asked the question, but a lot of people might look at that and they if you're vowing to be in this through the convention and through the long haul, why would you give viadvice on this. would some people think it's some sort of a concession? >> sure. it is certainly a question. he understands he's behind in the delegate count and it seems like, based on that answer, he's looking for ways to carry his influence forward. those points he was hitting, that's his core message, right?

he's urging hillary clinton to find a vice-presidential nominee that will carry bernie sanders' core message forward. perhaps it will be sanders attacking trump. not only is that a sound short-term strategy but it gives him an opportunity to argue hillary clinton, but we all dislike donald trump. but it shows he's trying to find a way to get his policy positions into the democratic ticket. >> mm-hmm, all right. eric bradner, always appreciate seeing you. thank you. >> thank you. former presidential candidate marco rubio said he might have run for re-election for the senate if his friend former senator would not have entered the race in his interview with jake tapper. marco rubio also spoke about donald trump. >> victor and christi, a few weeks ago marco rubio was unsure whether he would even attend the republican national convention

in july. he earned 177 delegates earlier this year and he still holds them until he officially releases them. in his exclusive interview with me he tells me about that. when you last spoke you said you were not yet sure what you were doing, if you were even attending the republican convention in cleveland. have you made a decision? >> yeah. my sense is i'm going to the convention. >> you are. >> i don't know that i have a role. >> if donald trump asked you to speak on his behalf, you would do so? >> certainly, yeah. i want to be helpful. i don't want to be harmful. i don't want hillary clinton to be president. look, my policy differences with donald trump, i spent 11 months talking about them, so i think they're well understood. i don't want hillary clinton being president. >> are you planning on releasing your delegates? >> yeah. in fact, basically technically i

holders are in existence. the latest is still waiting. sergeant hanks is about to become soldier 643. the society asked us to film kind of a documentary -- not a documentary but a five-minute short for a soldier killed in afghanistan. that led to the feature of my documentary. >> ethan, we understand that your last walk as a tomb guard is featured in this film. give us an idea of what it's like to watch that final walk. >> i cry every time. it's hard to go back there after 18 months, 365 days a year, 24-hour days. you're out there at night. of course, guests and visitors only come for the 12 hours that the cemetery is open.

we're there for the 24 hours. and when you do your last walk, you realize that millions of people have come here to honor their fallen heroes of our onto the plaza and for the last time will i be able to honor our nice's fallen and that was in 2006 when i did my last walk. from there neil and i had the idea, going to film school and creating this project, in 2012 is when we started with our faithful backing from our kickstarters. it's been a long road to honor the unknowns. >> when we watch some of this, there are moments you're out there, guarding, walking, it's very peaceful, it's very quiet, it's very reverent. what is on your mind in those hours that you stand there? >> one of the most unique times out there is when there is nobody out there to watch you at your post and that's really where a lot of the peace and the calm comes from and realizing

what your duty is and you're essentially the unknown's companion and reflecting sort of on really what these guys gave and we kind of cover a little bit of that in the movie and talk about just this serene environment that the tomb guards embrace every day and remember our fallen heroes. >> neil, do you go back off-duty to the tomb? >> absolutely. been there a couple of times to get pickup shots and since the original filming of the film and just it's just hard to go there but it's something we have to do. >> it's hard why? >> just difficult because of how much time and effort and the connection that we had while we were there. >> victor and christie, neil, with him being the director and the editor, we have 700 hours of footage from the training, from the guarding and he's edited that down literally editing i'm sure if anybody's watching who

is an editor it takes so long. he's been there quietly editing, sifting through the footage. you've always living there, remembering the whole time and it's really something special that neil was able to make from that. >> former members of the old guard are going to be hosting screenings of this film. do you feel pressure to live up to hopefully what they're going to remember and that it will honor the same thoughts that they have about their duty? what do you hope they're going to get from it i guess? >> we really do. we had a screening in san francisco, the marines memorial association, the marines memorial in san francisco and they gave us great feedback. we're hoping that this opens the eyes of the younger generation. the older generation does have a connection to world war i, world war center, korea, vietnam. the younger generation seems to be a disconnect. we're hoping it's fast paced and
