we begin the hour with a donald trump story no one expected. a guy armed with suction cups and climbing gear making his way up the side of trump tower which also happens to be the trump family home. this played out for about three hours with the elite severances unit, removing windows, cutting you this grill work. positioning themselves to take action. when the right moment came, it all happened very, very quickly. you can see the officers there reaching out, grabbing the climber, dragging him in, very quickly. from there he was taken to bellevue hospital for psychiatric evaluation. donald trump was not home at the time.

he was on the campaign trail the day after controversial remarks about second amendment people stopping hillary clinton if she is elected president. speaking in sunrise, florida, donald trump had plenty to say about her as well as sharp words. headline making words, perhaps, for president obama. >> isis is honoring president obama. he is the founder of isis. he is the founder of isis. okay? he founded isis. and i would say, the co-founder would be crooked hillary clinton. that was donald trump just moments ago. jim acosta is at the event. he joins us now. donald trump on the war path. >> reporter: that's right, john, no shrinking violet. he is tossing out the red meat

of this crowd in sunrise, florida. and for the first time john on the campaign trail, we heard donald trump address that controversy that he sparked yesterday with the comments on the second amendment a few moments ago. he blasted the media in the way they've covered the story saying that coverage was disgusting. ♪ ♪ >> offering no apologies for a super heated rhetoric, donald trump tried to make the case that it is hillary clinton who can't get words right. she said it was a mistake. that she is going to raise taxes on the middle class. you saw that one? maybe she misspoke. we have to give them a break. >> one day after he said activists could do something if hillary clinton were elected, trump is pushing back on any notion that he was inciting violence with this draw-dropping comment. >> if she gets to pick -- if she gets to pick her judges, nothing

his casual suggestion that more countries should have nuclear weapons. and now his casual inciting of violence. sflr that was hillary clinton today. jim acosta, as far as donald trump, as you said, feeding red meat to the crowd there, how did the crowd react? >> well, they seem to be enjoying every minute of it. they like this version of trump. a little earlier he was a bit more low energy to borrow one of his expressions. when donald trump was talking about the coverage of those second amendment comments, the crowd here and i have not heard was chanting, lock them up, note lock her up, talking about hillary clinton, lock them up, as in us, the media. >> you just called him low energy, what do you expect? >> let's bring back the panel. donald trump called president

obama the founder of isis. >> well look, he opened up room for isis to go by not leaving a stay behind force in iraq, invading libya, syria, allowing to grow to 40,000 strong. in that sense he is. when hillary clinton calls donald trump an isis prop began dis. the other side isn't innocent in throwing it around. this accusation is far more accurate to donald trump being an isis propagator. >> isis was al qaeda in iraq. which was founded in 2003, 2004 before barack obama was president. al-baghdadi is the founder is the founder of isis. but i understand what you're saying. >> the risk here is the whole rhetoric in the campaign is deteriorating. led by mr. trump. you're joking about it now when the crowd is chanting, lock them up.
10:07 pm
for the press. this is crazy. it is obvious he is putting on a show. it is feeding something in him. whether it's his narcissism or really become unhinged with the poll numbers. we don't know. but it is crazy. where the rhetoric of this campaign, not where it is headed. it is where it already is. he suggested they could take arms into their own hands. if they didn't like the result. so it's clear what he said. >> no, not clear what he said. >> when this whole thing becomes a discussion of like you're a liar and it's about insults. when it becomes only about insulting the opponent, you can't have a discussion of the issues that are important -- this is an election in which we're going to decide the future direction of our country. >> let's listen to what you just said --

>> look, the parts about obama and isis are legitimate points of discussion. however, encouraging people to say lock up the media is very disturbing. and it is not the first time that he's used the media as part of his sounding board ask trying to demonize the media. this is the same person who said he wanted to loosen up libel laws so they can sue the media. that's a first amendment right. i'm sure someone with authoritarian tendencies would like. to address the the idea of me being a liberal. which is the fourth time you've tried that little tack take and i think it's hilarious and pathetic actually. if you have a resume like mine, you would know what a conservative was. and if you were a conservative, you wouldn't be supporting donald trump. as a liberal, yud give someone toe money like hillary clinton, liberal, that's what donald trump did. a liberal is someone who is pro-choice, supportive of

trump made. president obama, the founder of isis. again, i think al baghdadi may have something to say about it. the argument he's making is that president obama is weak on isis. so there's that. and then the point that richard and tara was making. the level of the rhetoric here when statements like that are made. does it change the framework for the entire campaign? >> yes, absolutely. we just saw a great example of why what trump said was beyond what we normally see. he could have said, and he has in the past said that he thinks barack obama did a bad job on foreign policy. it is to trump's benefit to talk about foreign policy. he tends to do better, although not always on foreign policy in polling. he doesn't to have say barack obama was the founder of isis. he said it pretty clearly because the audience loved it. he kept saying it. and that's part of the challenge his campaign has.
10:12 pm
donald trump likes that reinforcement. he says these things, he takes it to the hyperbolic extreme. the problem is we get to lock up hillary clinton, lock up the media. the problem is, once you extend to that hyperbolic point, it is very hard to reel it back this and say, wait, hillary clinton shouldn't actually go to jail because she is running against me in a political campaign. once he keeps doing this thing, he keeps going to that extreme. it is very hard for the supporters who are enthusiastic about him to understand that that is not an appropriate way to go. >> hang on. we'll take a quick break and maybe a cease fire here. next we'll focus on hillary clinton. the allegations of the big donors to the clinton foundation paying for access. and yes, there are newly released e-mails. then later, the nominees' growing problem with some in the republican party. how he is handling one big name after another saying they don't

2009 there would be no overlap between the clinton foundation and the state department while she was secretary. there would be walls. and they never built those walls. so if there is pay for play, they didn't get much play out of it. the donors didn't get much. these are common practices in all of politics that people do favors for each other. that's the way the system works. especially for donors. even so, having pledged to do that. you would have thought they would have an ethics officer set up something strict. everybody would know the guidelines and they wouldn't find themselves seven years later in this controversy as she is running for president. >> for you this gets to the issue that many people believe the clintons have rules and then there are rules that everyone else has to abide by. >> right. i think it goes to the question of why hillary clinton, 60% of the american public says they don't trust her. because they believe after decades in the public eye, that

the clintons perhaps do have a different set of rules. in this case you have the fbi director declining to prosecute, i might add, over her e-mails but saying she was extremely careless and then you have hillary defending herself that she never passed on classified information. now you have this batch. which is 44 e-mails previously not released to the state department. while the campaign saying unequivocally that hillary clinton as secretary of state never took any action to benefit donors of the clinton foundation, you do have these e-mails which suggest that somebody was trying to do that. >> what does this do in the election? already, # 4% of registered voters don't find hillary
