>> paris? >> first of all, condolens to those who have lott their lives, especially to family and friends. innocent citizens affected by this, businesses and been attacked senselessly, thoughts and prayers with them. on the issue of dr. king, i agree would have been on the ground marching with all these activists that are there but doing it peacefully. let us not forget the fact that dr. king on the night he was murdered was done there supporting sanitation workers to have a better life and better wages and jobs. march on washington not just about the i have a dream speech but talking about the economic system and plight of african-americans. it's sad that in 2016 in many of the urban centers and cities kef we have some of the same issues plaguing your communities especially the economy.
9:30 pm
dr. king was right to focus on the least of these, the poor, trying to have a better way. we deal with this right now. the ramifications of the lawlessness and hopelessness is people are without hope. >> just tell vurz what you're watching talking about the politics, someone arrested on the ground in charlotte, north carolina. sorry paris go ahead. >> looking at what is going on and response, which i think is deplorable, violence is never the answer. but looking ahow to solve it. republican nominee said when i'm president i will look to ensure all kids are treated equally and protected equally. every action i take i will ask myself does this make life better for young americas that have just as much right to live out life as every american
9:31 pm
child. good words. >> right in middle of heated presidential election, in the battleground campaigns. paris mentioned donald trump. both dp and hillary clinton ep speaking about the issue. >> spoke out today but haven't heard from them in the last few hours, which isn't surprising because it's breaking situation. not heard from president barack obama either. important issue that will play out in the campaign but talking about the issue need to talk about in the grander scheme, big thoughts. this isn't in isolation. this is a situation that's been brewing since literally the country was founded. where you have this inequality between african-americans and between whites and quite frankly when you look at polling, there is such a disparity between how
9:32 pm
blacks view themselves and whites view themselves. a couple of numbers i think are shocking. first is, from the pugh reserp center. percentage of people saying blacks treated less fairly than whites. 84% of blacks plef that while only 50% of whites believe that. disparity, 44% difference. in the workplace, 64% of blacks feel they've been treated unfairly while whites say only 22% think blacks treated unfairly. a different view of the situation. this is really striking when you look at politics right now. talk about republicans trying to reach out to african-american community and how african-americans tend to be very much in the democratic columnment rierkt now fine% of republicans think too much
9:33 pm
attention paid to rice and 49% of democrats think that. >> 49% of democrats believe that too little attention has been paid to race by 59% of republicans believe too much attention has been paid to race. we need to talk about the politics. >> talk about the candidates positioning themselves. donald trump until today positioned as law and order candidate, supportive of police, blue lives matter. but today saying that tulsa, oklahoma, shooting, doesn't understand why this is happening, maybe the police officer choked. >> hillary clinton has been saying we need to get this under control, meaning the country and law makers, need to get this under control. deal with it. how is it happening in 2016 and she's not seen so much as law and order candidate. >> i think this is a challenge
9:34 pm
for both candidates. clinton saying that the situation in tulsa, in charlotte with the deaths of terence crutcher and keith scott were unbearable, and donald trump saying maybe the police officer in tulsa choked, tragic. it's acknowledgment by both candidates they have to come to terms with issue that's gone nationwide with video, tension between police in communities and police violence particularly in regard to the african-american community. coming up to the debate both candidates need a better answer than unbearable and tragic. in the case of clinton, has the bulk of the african-american vote and bulk of support, although lower enthusiasm among younger, does have stronger
9:35 pm
support than trump. problem is and she admitted today doesn't have a particular policy acceleration solution for police violence and problem for donald trump going into the debate, made overtures in recent weeks to aver african-american voters trying to get numbers up but muddles message by talking about today in taped show wanted to bring back stop and frisk. >> stop there and let's listen. >> there's been a lot of violence in the black community. wanted to know what would you do to help stop that violence, black-on-black crime? >> one of the things i'd do is stop and frisk. i think you have to. we did it in new york, worked incredibly well. and you have to be proactive. and you know, you really help people sort of change their mind automatically, you understand you you have to have in my opinion, i see what is going on
9:36 pm
here, in chicago, i think stop and frisk. in new york city was so inkrelk, way it worked. had a good mayor but new york city incredible the way that worked. that's one step to do. >> he's calling for stop and frisk to be implemented nationally, widely condemned by african-americans and many others and judge striking it down as unconstitutional. >> it was ruled unconstitutional. whatever that is. debate can be had about stop and frisk. that's not black outreach. he has folks like mayor rudy glooul ani in orbit who are proponents of it and trump is saying worked well in new york but something like 90% of those stopped under stop and frisk wound up released without charges and overwhelming numbers
9:37 pm
were african-american as and latinos. what we don't need in communities is more crackdown by the police. we need better understanding between police and communities of color to ever get past this issue of police violence. >> interesting conversation. i'm going to get to break but as we talk about this bring in law enforcement panel to discuss whether stop and frisk works. all of the studies i've read have indicated otherwise but let's discuss. maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. all the information i have says it doesn't. continue to follow break news in charlotte, north carolina. be back it my panel of experts, political and law enforcement analysts coming up.
