breaking news top it is hours. republican senate katd denying allegations of a relationship with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32. former gop presidential candidates calling on moore to bow out of the race. he called accusers leigh corfman completely false but his recollection of his dating history with teenage girls, that is racing some eyebrows. listen. >> would it be unusual for you as a 32-year-old guy to have
10:01 pm
dated a woman as young as 17? that would be a 15 year difference or a girl 18? do you remember dating girls that young at that time? >> not generally, no. if i did, i'm not going to dispute anything, but i don't remember anything like that. >> would it be normal behavior for you to date a girl that's 17 or 18. >> no, not normal. >> you can say you never dated anyone in their late teens when you were in 32. >> it would have been out of my customary behavior. >> in other words, you don't recall dating any girl that young, when you were that old? >> i said, no. >> that's called leading the witness. moore denied knowing the witness and says someone who abuses a 14-year-old should not be a senate candidate. republicans in alabama seem to be standing behind him. roy moore showing no indication of stepping aside today.
10:02 pm
what more are you hearing? >> reporter: this is the roy moore that his supporters know and love, the roy moore that his detractors can't stand. a roy moore that doesn't back down from a find. keep in mind moore was the chief justice of the state supreme court here in alabama and was twice removed. you can hear in the interview that he is offering that full throated rejection of what he is calling a liberal conspiracy, but you can also begin to hear some self-doubt. when you look at the way the campaign is operating, this clearly is a nervous campaign. a campaign that appears to be in crisis. except for that interview that he gave to sean hannity and the statement they put out yesterday, there's been almost no communication from the campaign, no appearance by the candidate, calls, text messages, e-mails to campaign spokes people go unanswered. so this is clearly a campaign
10:03 pm
that is trying to figure out what is going on. i was speaking with an official from the county republican party earlier today. he did allow for the fact that moore may loose some votes off this, but he says by and large his base will stand firm, turn out for him on the december 12th election and may be energized out of this. he says they have been through fire, which is a reference to the controversies over the years, he did call this unusual. but he said under no circumstances does he believe that roy moore will drop out of the race. >> you spoke to a number of roy moore supporters, what are they saying to you? >> reporter: to a person almost, man and woman, they are sticking by him. the big question they are asking is why now. why are the allegations coming out just four weeks before the election. why are they coming out some 40 years almost after they took place. are these women being put forward as a smear campaign.
10:04 pm
are democrats supporting it? is the republican establishment like mitch mcconnell supporting it? i was a bit surprised today when i spoke with a woman in a restaurant asking her that if she knew these allegations to be true, what would she do? take a listen. >> i still would support roy moore. 'cause i feel as if that's happened in the past. >> even if he was inappropriately touching a 14-year-old girl? >> if he -- he went to the lord whatever and asked for forgiveness for that and hasn't done anything like that in -- since then, i believe that if the good lord's forgiven him, as a christian, i have to forgive him also. >> reporter: so moore does have a number of supporters who under any circumstances will vote for him on december 12th. the one exception i found was a woman who until yesterday was a big roy moore supporter now she's questioning it. the reason why, she knows leigh corfman personally. leigh corfman was the woman who
10:05 pm
alleges that at 14 years old she was inappropriately touched by roy moore. now she is not sure what she is going to do. but in talking to most people here, they do not believe the allegations. they want to see proof, they want to see corroboration, they want to see roy moore stay in the race and they believe he will win. >> appreciate it, thanks. i want to bring in our panel now. kyle, first of all you work down in alabama you're based in birmingham? >> yes. . >> so politically, where do you see -- it seems like because this happened so long ago, because right now it's a he said -- a number of women said, people can see it through the lens of their politics or their tribal political sides. >> roy moore's constituency has been built up over 20 years. these are voters who have followed him through a lot of
10:06 pm
controversial positions. what's different this one is all those things roy moore was in control over. his stance on gay marriage, his stance on displaying the 10 commandments in the courthouse. those are calculations that he made. this is not something that he is in control of right now. he's been almost invisible in alabama for the last few weeks, as far as campaigning, making very few campaign stops. but i think that a lot of those voters -- belief perseverance is a really powerful thing and a lot of those voters have been conditioned by what we've seen in politics in this country in the last several years, if they want to, they don't have to believe these allegations. >> huh heard whispers of any of these allegations? >> there have been be rumors through the years and for a lot
10:07 pm
of alabama political reporters, which is going to be the one that got away. i was approached through social media a couple years ago, someone who had a friend -- through a friend of a friend was in contact with one of these women who was trying to work out some sort of arrangement where one of them would talk to me. but it went dead. >> this isn't something that's just come out of the shadows a few weeks before the election. >> it's been chasing ghosts before to try to nail these rumors down. but it's an impressive piece of work by "the washington post" to have found not one, but four women, to have found i think they said was it 30 people they interviewed. >> and would go on the record, too. >> and to get down into hard details confirming that some of them were where -- said they were at that time, even in the
10:08 pm
courthouse, including roy moore. >> scott, where do you see this? >> i agree it's an impressive piece of reporting by "the washington post." i am concerned that the "the washington post" is being used now as the excuse to not believe it. so as a politicalle matter -- i'm going to give you a strategic view, you were someone who wants to take roy moore out of the race, we have to get "the washington post" out of the middle of it. i'm interested to see if leigh corfman goes to camera on it. it would be another thing to see her speak direct to camera and speak directly to the people of alabama in her own voice, in her own words. so we'll see if that comes next. the other issue is donald trump needs to throw this guy overboard right now. they have no relationship. the first time trump spoke to roy moore was september 27th. he is embarrassing the president, putting the president's agenda in danger. i'm old enough to remember when a president threw a senate majority leader overboard over
10:09 pm
making a dumb remark at a birthday party. we're beyond that. so donald trump to preserve his agenda needs to dump this guy immediately. >> one thing i learned my first job in television news was in alabama you learn these people get their news locally, what they see on the local television and read in the paper, that's where they form their opinion. what happens in the post and what we talk about here, is not going to influence the people of alabama. folks i've talked to, said this isn't changing their mind. those that like him, will stand behind him, those that don't this will make them stand against him. he had been 8 to 10 points ahead now he's 7.4 points ahead. the last poll shows it tied up. but since this happened, they've raised $100,000. so the people die hard with him
10:10 pm
will continue to give money and support. i think the interview he gave today where he couldn't say that this didn't happen -- >> and sean gave him, to say the least, so you're saying it would have been very unusual, he would have -- >> it's a yes or no question. and for him to say it's not characteristic with his behavior, i think that was a little bit questionable. but i think those are like not going to change. >> kyle? >> there's something else here to understand about are where republicans in alabama are. more than a year ago we saw allegations coming out, the "access hollywood" tapes came out -- >> by "the washington post." >> right. martha robie at that time, denounced the president, asked the then candidate to step aside. she nearly got unseated by a
10:11 pm
write-in candidate. she really is on the ropes right now to get re-elected. and a lot of republicans in alabama, who might have strong feelings about that, about the situation, have seen that and they're scared. they're scared that if they step out and say something, they might be the next person to get p primariried if roy moore's base forgives him or walks past this and doesn't accept the allegations as truthful. >> which is what you're seeing at the national level. saying if this is true, he should resign. i do want to say as the embodiment of "the washington post" here. i keep hearing why now, the answer is obvious. there's a reason why people with merky backgrounds don't run for office. what happens is roy moore win it is republican primary and now he's a figure of national attention. he might be the next u.s.
10:12 pm
signature from alabama. it's not rocket science and it's also, i think, plays to why these women were willing to step forward. this is, if you have beef with roy moore, this is your opportunity to stand up and say hey this is a thing that happened to me before he becomes a u.s. signatuenator. we hear about the timing and collusion, there's been the fire storm whipped one the media is making these things up, which is, of course, nonsense. but we are now the scapegoat. i get your point about the woman coming forward, but we stand behind our reporting. speaking of the "access holly ro hollywood tape" steve bannon just invoked it. when 360 continues. i am totally blind. and non-24 can throw my days and nights out of sync,

if it's true part of it is to give them a little bit of cover in case this is some elaborate hoax, which i don't think it is, since there were 30 people that went on the record as part of "the washington post" story. there is another witness that went on the record today who was the boyfriend of leigh corfman back 20 years ago -- no 1989 i think. he said she mentioned the abuse to him and that he has no reason not to believe her. that's another corroborating witness now on top of that. i'm old enough to remember when mark folly was run out of congress because he was inappropriately texting young pages. i remember when republicans were really upset about anthony weiner for sending pictures or chris smith because he took his shirt off. what happened to those people? shame on the evangelicals who are trying to prevert scripture

talking about senate candidate roy moore and the allegations against him.
10:29 pm
we're talking to democrat of minnesota. thanks for being with us. >> thanks, anderson. >> i want to ask about what's going on roy moore. several of your republicrepublie should drop out of the race if these allegations are true. is that enough for you? >> when you have four women that have come forward, with 30 witnesses that have been interviewed and no one who has poked a hole in these stories, if i were him i'd step down. that's something he has to decide and the republican party has to decide. i find it outrageous we see these candidates in this case someone who was removed as the justice of the alabama supreme court because he wasn't following the law. that's a pretty unique circumstance to have that person running as a candidate. so there were already many issues that led republicans to doubt this person as a candidate
10:30 pm
and now this is the final thing. but, you know, if he's our candidate i think the one thing to remember is there is a good candidate we have, mr. jones, who, in fact, is a former u.s. attorney, a prosecutor, someone running on trust, someone running on his record. someone who is talking about things that matter to the people of alabama like affordable health care and affordable college. so there is an alternative out there. and as was noted earlier on your show the numbers are closing in the poll. >> i talked to a state rep from alabama who supports roy moore, does not believe the women who came forward and what he said and many of the supporters of roy moore are saying, why are these people coming forward now? it seems questionable we're just hearing about this now given he's been in public life for some time and this is a plot by whether it's "the washington

post" or liberals or whoever it may be. >> when you have someone in this kind of a prominent race, people decide it matters to come forward. and they make that choice. it doesn't mean that it didn't happen, in fact, it seems to me that these are pretty documented stories with someone as -- news organizations as reputable as the post running them. to me it means the stakes are higher. and when you see women across the country are coming out and speaking out about what's happened to them and harassment and sexual abuse and things like that, there's been a change in this country. a change that women are willing to stand up and speak. >> i want to ask you about that change. you put forward legislation that would require antiharassment legislation, it passed the senate yesterday. what do you make of the moment we're in? do you believe this is some kind of lasting turning point?
10:32 pm
>> i really do. it was actually quite enlight evening enning to work on that because i had men working on it as well, like senator grassly and shelby and others. there's been a lot of democrat support from the beginning. of something we never had, when we should be the example, within 60 days. to me what's happening is people are telling their stories. what matters is what happens next. to policies change, and when you look at the pathetic number of women who are running studios or businesses or plants, and in the congress, there's environments where women feel like they're pushed down. so my joy will not be so much as seeing the people we've seen fall from power.
10:33 pm
what i'd like to see is women rise up in power and be able to have a newday where people judge them on their merits and not much them aside and call them names and laugh behind their backs, or abuse them much worse like some of the stories we've been seeing. so to me this is about empowerment and something that's pushed women down for a long time. so there's more to this coin. >> what we're seeing in alabama, steve bannon was talking about it tonight saying there's evidence of collusion we'll hear more about that in the days to come. it does seem like questions -- there's questions being raised about one of the women -- allegations that she was a sign language interpreter at some point for the hillary clinton campaign, which seems an odd connection but given she started -- according to "the washington post" she started her company to help people, a successful company and that seems like one of the aspects of the company --
10:34 pm
>> exactly. sign language interpreters usually work at a lot of different events. >> but when women come forward often they become torargeted. >> that's right. you ask why they didn't come forward before, of course they thought something like this would happen. but at some point people decide the stakes are too high. you ask why didn't they come out earlier against harvey weinstein, in a number of these cases, well, at some point there's strength in numbers. where it no longer becomes i'm going to hide this in my background and it becomes this is something i must do so it doesn't happen to others. as a former prosecutor i saw so many victims in this case of criminal sexual abuse, it was a horrible experience to have to come forward and testify in front of the eyes of the jury, but i also saw redemption through all of it. they didn't want what happened to them happen to someone else

10:40 pm
only after the allegations came out public and he's lost distribution deals. >> it did -- according to the times he had written apologies or contacted some of the women to apologize. i don't know if that was because the story was being worked on why that may have been. how do you see it? >> it was an apology-ish. it was a creepy message. he said they admired him. never did he say, i'm sick, i'm a creep, that was criminal. he never admitted what was happening. if you read the whole statement, i think he must have said i was admired about ten times. so it was creepy, and he never -- he just admitted it and you can't tell whether it was a shady strategy to know, i'm going down so maybe i'll save a little bit of my soul or maybe i

see that other people are litigating and it's not working, so maybe i'll try something else. i didn't feel that it was heartfelt. i felt it was maybe a last resort. but you know the hardest thing, anderson. this is men of power that need other men of power to do this kind of work. there's a lot of reporting about people knowing that his colleagues knew, that all the people he wrote for and with knew and they admired him. so men admired him and companies admired him because of the money he brings with him. and then all these women suffer. so i'm not impressed by him admitting. i don't feel like he apologized. i feel like he said, yep, i did it. but he never said i'm a creep, i need help. what i did was criminal. what i did destroys people. it was still careful. >> what i felt was interesting.
10:42 pm
him having a career as a comedian, who's self-deprecating -- >> by the way, talking about masturbation -- >> exactly. for hil his statement to be like they say talking about knowing these women admired him and he felt gave him a pass, i think it's a sad day when we have to look at what we've had in the last few weeks with sexual harassment and say on the scale of one to ten, and say this was the most heartfelt apology. harvey weinstein never apologized. kevin spacey did apologize but said he doesn't remember. so he did go the furthest, but it didn't seem insere. it wasn't until he was brought to light and he lost deals. when he knew his financial future was on the line. for him to wait until that point that takes it away.
10:43 pm
>> that's the case. people don't change until they feel enough pain that causes them to reflect. i think he was rather impressed with himself and he felt the need to do this with women for whatever reason. i'm sure psychologists that are more qualified than i am to determine why men feel the need to pleasure themselves over women to validate themselves, it's very strange. i just think that at this point, i'm glad to see that there are women that finally feel comfortable enough to be able to say yes, this has happened and we're seeing it's almost like a watershed moment here because we're taking down very powerful men where in the past women couldn't do that and think they'd be protected. that's why they were silent for so long. so i'm glad to see there are finally some consequences going on. so that's a step in the right
