3:06 am
there is not going to be a prosecuti prosecution. legally, what do you think is cropping up? >> when prosecutors have multiple potential victims, they look to try to the strongest case first, it creates an at months of belief. it happened opposite here. they claimed there is a forgery of the infamous yearbook involved. >> because he supposedly wrote an inscription in her yearbook. >> the signatures were relevant. that's why we have this on your screen. >> he has the d.a. thing. >> what do you make of that, by the way? >> he had a clerk when he was a judge in the divorce part and his initials were d.a. he would put d.a. on the order. nelson appeared in front of him as a litigant in the divorce

case. by the way, did not ask to recuse more, as she would have presumably if she had had this incident with him many years before. and that d.a. thing turns up on the yearbook so many years before. >> couldn't it mean district attorney? >> well, he was deputy district attorney. he would never use the term d.a. because he was only assistant district attorney. whether this is true or false, this puts a stain on the strength of the victims's cases. if she gets completely discredited, will the public in alabama think, well, the others are just coming forward and they're phony cases too. that's how the legal will bleed into a political strategy for moore. >> he yeah. let's just focus on the fact that we have a he said, she said, she said, she said, she said, she said situation.
3:08 am
before we go yearbook truther. yes, we have an obligation to be skeptical. if it's a fraud it would have an impact on people's assessment. but it is is clearly an attempt to distract and deflect and muddy the accusations because there's not going to be a clear resolution. >> john is, john, let's get -- let's get one thing straight. >> let's get a lot of things straight. >> i tried cases involving claims of forgery. i'm not saying that this is true. i'm telling you how it will play out publicly. i'm telling you how moore's lawyer is going to try to turn this into a truther. >> let me inject for one second. so they're calling on handwriting experts to look at this and a chemical test to see when the ink was put on the page. >> that is fascinating. i had a case that involved this. if a certain kind of ink is
3:09 am
used. because if you try to backdate your receipts, the irs has a master list of chemicals in certain inks and you can demonstrate this is an ink from 1990, not 1977. >> so maybe we will have an answer. >> we are not going to have an answer in advance of this election because there will be no trial. >> as a result, what we are doing intentionally or not, is it helping muddy the waters around this accusation? we need to be skeptical but we have a preponderance of evidence at this point which seems to contradict. >> my role here is when you can fill a small school bus with women who say you abuse them, the preponderance of evidence is for the victim, clearly. >> well, luckily, shawn hannity is on the case. he gave judge roy moore 24 hours to come up with something
3:10 am
convincing so he could be won over. >> as one does before they file a criminal complaint. sew. >> we have documented the most recent accuser, buehrle melson was a party in a divorce action before me in etowah county circuit court in 1999. no motion was made for me to recuse. in her accusations, nelson did not mention that it was judge assigned to her divorce case in 1999. this is interesting on many levels. he claims he didn't know her. he also forgot. >> he has a problem with that too. he is going to say, well, i don't remember her because there are hundreds of litigants that come before me. but she would have remembered me because it was her divorce. there's not going to be a trial.
3:11 am
you will only hear discussion about this. this is damage to one case. there are six others. >> i'm doing heavily listening on this because i think it is all very interesting. we have lived through this before. i remember when alisyn was knocking on the doors about the cosby accusers. and the numbers became overwhelming. but they weren't always overwhelming. when things happened a long time ago, things are often complicated. i remember all the hand wringing. this one has this and this one. it's all okay. it's about vetting. it is, one, when a woman says something, you should listen. their voice matters. they shouldn't be discounted out of hand, which happens too often. here's what i don't get anymore. vote. figure it out. look, every elected leader, especially in that party, should stand up and say what do they think of these accusations and take a moral stand. this whole let's monkey with the system and push the governor. she's in a weird spot, if male,

3:13 am
we have an obligation to be skeptical but not cynical. that said, the political calculation, clearly some people are being motivated by self interest. i would say mitch mcconnell, when he was, wouldn't abandon roy moore. there is an obligation if you are a leading republican. paul ryan stepped up. mcconnell stepped up, to say what you think about this case and about this candidate. and particularly for members of the alabama republican party. you know, does sometimes party loyalty ask too much. do you vote the person, not the party. that's going to be a fascinating test case. >> we're going to have lawmakers come up on the show and post these questions. >> thank you very much. with one prominent republican senator already in the "no" column, is the senate tax plan in trouble? that's next. you nervous? ♪ ♪

i think they would certainly have to give him something in order to do that. and i think that's a fundamental problem with this bill. it creates sort of strong support for corporations. it makes the corporate tax cut permanent. and other tax cuts expire or are forwardly modest. and also they're taking things away from taxpayers that also raise their taxes. but i also think the real people to watch will be the deficit hawks out there. mccain, collins, corkers, others who are like worried about the impact on the deficit. this is the part of the bill that is not going to change. they are not going to suddenly find, you know, a trillion dollars. >> didn't they suddenly find lots of people because of the mandate. >> they're going to find like $300 billion. they will use that to reduce middleclass families. the overall cost will be

3:44 am
the top tier, in your version, the senate version has different propositions in it at this point. but in the house version, the middleclass doesn't do best. why not? >> the middle class does do best because our stuff on the corporate tax rate will grow our economy. we should stop arguing how to divide the pie and start growing the pie. that's what making america competitive is all about. that's what the business tax cut is all about. it will result in private investment, which will result this more jobs, which will result in better wages. and the middleclass will also get a little cash in their pocket through a tax cut. this bill is about growing the economy. that's what this bill is about, chris. >> but isn't it more fair to say might, right? you saw what just happened with those ceos with one of the administration officials. he said, look, we're going to give the corporations money back to pay their workers more. that's not how it works.

3:46 am
somehow the middle class magically benefits has been proven as untrue as it is true. >> that's true if you are talking about individual rates. but what we've done is cut the corporate rate, make america competitive. america has the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world. we're going to bring jobs back and investment back to this country because america is going to be competitive again. economic growth is now 3% as a result of what we've done to right size regulation in the first eight months of this year. >> do you think all the growth is because of what you have done in the last calendar year? >> i think it is is what we have done and what we haven't done. there is finally not an attack on the american private sector and people are willing to invest. and i think that's part of it. >> would you acknowledge we have never seen america-based corporations holding the kind of cash they are and yet wages have stagnated. >> yes. because the fact that they're holding cash is why wages are stagnating. we need them to invest it in

president trump just back from asia held a press conference touting his own accomplishments. >> i spoke the truth about the evil crimes of the north korean regime. >> i made clear that we will not allow this twisted dictatorship. >> i called on every nation. >> i visited soldiers at camp humphreys. >> i discussed with the united states and south korean military leaders. >> i urged our nato allies to do more to strengthen our crucial alliance. >> nato, believe me, is very happy with donald trump and what i did. >> i declared to the world. >> i urged that the nations of the world join in confronting rogue regimes. >> i have worked to advance american interests. >> that is exactly what i have done.

>> joining us now is cnn chief international correspondent christiane amanpour. great to have you here. we rely on you for the international perspective. there president trump talking about what he thinks he accomplished on the asian trip. maybe too soon to tell what he actually accomplish stpwhrd the president, when he goes abroad, represents the united states and the most powerful country in the world. all that was done was done for the president and for the united states. the red carpet in china, the ceremonial, all the things happened were because that is the way the u.s. was viewed around the world. that is what people do. but did he get the, you know, he touted he was going to get so many bilateral trade agreements. he didn't. was there a real idea about how to confront north korea? no. but very importantly the chinese have sent an envoy for the first time in a while and we'll see what exactly comes out of that

regarding north korea. and the other thing that's a little bit, you know, still unclear is how america is going to keep its dominant role in the pacific asian region. because pulling back, in other words, pulling out of the tpp, doing all that kind of stuff, leaves the space open for china to assert its dominance, which it wants to now. and i was actually struck by the president of the philippines who announced that, yes, we want a good relationship with the united states but we also want our on own relationship with china. so the leaders around there are seeing a potential american pullback and they are doing their own thing. china is the one who is going to be taking advantage of if america doesn't keep its multilateral trade agreements. >> president trump has also said he has dealt isis one crushing defeat after another. has isis been significantly weakened since president trump came to office? >> okay. so here's the thing.

isis was under assault ever since 2014 when president obama gathered the alliance in nato and all the other countries that the could got in there and went after isis. it took a long time. president trump correctly continued that policy and maybe amped it up a little bit. but it's the same kind of policy. it was let us defeat isis. all of these defeats were set in motion before the trump administration. but he pursued them. and this is really important. because, yes, isis has been dealt mortal blows in mosul and in raqqa, which were its headquarters. raqqa, if you remember, was the so-called capital of the so-called cal fatality. psychologically it is important that that caliphate doesn't exist anymore. however, former defense secretary was saying to me yesterday, unless you pursue and make up for the post military defeat, in other words, you've got to have a political and economic end to this.

it is not just whack-a-mole and sit back and hope they don't come back again. that's what's happened in the past. how to neutralize the threat of terrorism is not just military, although the military plays a huge and significant role. >> it is not just geographical. it is ideological. as we know, that battle continues. in terms of how other world leaders sigh president trump, let's not just take his word for it. do you have a sense of whether or not other world leaders do respect president trump or how they feel about the u.s. at the moment. >> i think it's really hard to personalize this. i peripheral to look at it as the rest of the world engaged with the united states. because that is what's important. i think in the eight months or more since the president has been elected and of course his inauguration was in january, people have started to take the pressure of president trump. there is sort of a trump effect in foreign capitals when people decide how they are going to deal with the white house, with the state department, with the
3:56 am
pentagon and with the united states as a whole. many people say, many leaders say they don't necessarily pay attention to the tweets. they pay attention to the action. and that's important when you're trying to conduct bilateral or multilateral affairs. i think one of the things that's very, very important is the ongoing question. we have had asia. it looks like with climate trade and the rest of it, the united states is pulling back. that's not good for the united states. china might jump into there, as i said. the russia thing of course. you have been reporting it for so long. people are still sort of scratching their heads as to why president trump can't say anything tough against vladimir beauty in. so, again, ashcraft said on the battle field we are behind. the united states is behind in the cyber warfare. isis used it with social media to recruit too groom. the russians are using it. and the chinese are using it. there is a war going on. it's a cyber war right now.
