us. you can watch "outfront" anytime on cnngo. john berman is in for anderson and "360" begins right now. we're clearly at a moment. we begin in the middle of it. john berman in for anderson, astonishing 24 hours. new sexual allegations against roy moore, allegations about sitting senator al franken. new against george w. bush and people assessing views of bill clinton, finally current president accused of misconduct by numerous women and on the record bragging he could get away with it. now doing what he almost never does, not talking about. not talking or tweeting, even though usually talking or tweeting about everything. new silence itself a screaming statement.
5:01 pm
all part of growing picture of men with power in washington, hollywood and elsewhere behaving badly and increasing numbers of women and men confronting them about it. al franken, but first roy moore. "washington post" reported stories of two new accusers. members of the alabama republican party said will stand behind him. he was defiant. >> the "washington post" has brought scurrilous, false, not charges but allegations which i've enfatically denied time and again. untrue and no evidence to support them. comments about me taking a stand, i have taken stand in past, will in the future and quit standing when they lay me in the box and put me in the ground. >> you can believe or disbelieve accusers, of which there are

5:03 pm
should make decision who the next senator should be. >> so he thinks roy moore should stay in? >> president said in statement earlier this week, if the allegations are true, roy moore should step aside. he still firmly believes that. >> how would the president like to see that truth proven? >> look, i'm not going to get into and litigate back and forth, but the president's been clear, if any of the allegations are true, allegations he takes seriously and finds troubling, if they happen to be true, should do the right thing and step aside. >> does the president believe the accusations themselves, if women themselves and credibility can be established outside of the allegations? what is mechanism by cht president would be satisfied that allegations are true? >> i don't think the president's laid out mechanisms, that should be determined possibly by court of law. but that's also something -- decision that people of alabama need to make, not the president,
5:04 pm
whether or not they want roy moore to support them in the senate. >> even a week after first accusers came forward and so many more followed, no change from the white house. sanders punting to alabama voters and referring back to statement on the 10th. like most americans doesn't believe that we can allow a mere allegation to destroy a person's life, but if they are true, do the right thing and step aside. le clearly not stepping anymore. daughter ivanka sees no reason to doubt the accusers but father won't go beyond first and only statement on the subject, say whether he thinks roy moore should be a senator. cnn has reported on one reason why not. republican source tells jeff zeleny yesterday he's worried about the conversation moving to his past accusers.
5:05 pm
this source noting that president still believes -- again this is the source talking -- that his accusers were unfair and some of moore's may be too. "360"'s gary tuchman in birmingham, joins us now. roy moore has done plenty of talking but yet to answer questions from the press. did that change today? >> reporter: well, john, thought he was going to take questions from reporters, news conference began in birmingham following a rally, attended by faith leaders from alabama and throughout the country speaking how much they love roy moore and defending him from the allegations, something judge roy moore did himself, it's natural topic to ask about it. i did but instead of roy moore answering, woman who organized the rally took the wheel. here's what happened. >> major issue, judge did you touch any of the women who accused you of touching them.

5:07 pm
news conference. >> looks like he has no intention of maybe ever responding to questions. >> it seemed predestined today. when i asked the question, woman who organized rally never even looked at him to ask if he wanted to answer, he never walked towards the podium. does seem like he communicated before the event began he wouldn't take questions on the topic. if i asked about other issues that pertained to the campaign, mitch mcconnell for example, i think he would have taken a question. but after there was anger in the room but most of the people at faith rally were kind towards reporters after that but one woman yelled you're fake lying news from the swamp. john. >> gary, thanks so much. ed martin, scott jennings, abby philip and gloria borger. new poll shows roy moore trailing eight points, a lot for
5:08 pm
republican to be trailing anybody in alabama. what republicans feared. >> and clearly because of women. 17 point gender gap in this call. women are deserting roy moore. that's a problem. republicans are worried he's going to lose. although some republicans were afraid he's going to win. they don't want him in the senate. then they have a host of problems to deal with. rather have another republican in the senate but can't figure out at this point how to get there because the president, as you were talking about earlier, the president has not told him to step aside. and he might be the only one he would listen to. >> definitively has not done
5:09 pm
that. can it last until election day? >> it can. we have no reason to believe there isn't going to be more allegations every day for the rest of the election. be stunned if we don't have more stories and interviews with more accusers. polling can be volatile in the middle of a news bomb that we're in right now. not surprised to see the wide margin. how you get out of that is get separation from the event. for moore, number one, event may keep happening, and number two, campaign mechanics, outspent on television 11-1 by democratic opponent, that was causing slide even before this started happening. toss- toss-up seat, talking about democrat going to senate from the reftd state in america. >> and republicans want the president to say enough, roy moore, get out. he won't do it. >> i'm not convinced it matters
5:10 pm
whether he says it at this point or not. alternative for republicans right now is roy moore or empty void essentially. this same poll indicated that luther strange, current acting senate frer that state wouldn't do better than roy moore, might lose to moore in head-to-head matchup or might just split the vote and create scenario that makes it easier for the democrat to win. another dynamic in the poll, about the same number of alabama voters believe the allegations against roy moore and same number disbelieve. altogether about 2/3 of the voters. rest don't really know. what that tells me, some people even if they don't believe allegations are not comfortable voting for him. maybe because they just don't like the ethos of the race, what it says about alabama. maybe just not comfortable with the fact they exist.
5:11 pm
should be a red flag for roy moore, spent a lot of time talking about why the allegations are false. may not matter. >> ed, jumping out of your seat. >> trying to be good. two observations. heard the same thing about polling and scott makes a good point. in storm, issue, you have volatility. i would tell you, donald trump was going to lose the election by double digits all over the place on polling. one of the things that drum beat had done to him after billy bush was made it so you weren't going to say you voted for trump in polling. in missouri was going to win by four, won by 19. other thing you're missing john, he did send a message. everyone waiting to hear what the president said. sanders said clearly, the people of alabama will decide this. same thing that al franken asked. don't make me resign today but go to the ethics committee and work this out. i think people of alabama heard
5:12 pm
that. when roy moore says i'm going to sue the "washington post" and sources say he's preparing that. people there saying it's us versus them and on alabama they come home on abortion, immigration and lot of issues to someone who is conservative. >> another thing the poll shows, 6 in 10 of the voters say they disapprove of the way mitch mcconnell is handling his job. that's his campaign. >> scott? >> ed makes a good point about voters coming back to the republicans. i still think roy moore could win. but pretty sure if he loses popular vote in alabama not be electoral college to save him. not get to 45 or 46 like the president but 50. >> moment that mitch mcconnell will have to look at all the guys. roy blount and everything, judges and everything.

this woman who says when 14 was sexually molested. there's that. but question you're saying that president answered, is it the biggest question here? do you think roy moore should be senator from alabama? do you want roy moore to be next senator from alabama? >> me or president? >> president. >> but you saying he hasn't commented on it, sanders came out and delivered that answer, the people will decide. saying it's fair. not saying that woman that's accused al franken should be believed over franken either until we see what happened. if roy moore won't go into court so the women get day in court, shame on him. but he said he will and willing to take our turn. >> no court before election day and people have to look at it. people are asking the president
