4:00 am
we don't want to have a liberal democrat in alabama, believe me. >> roy moore has never served our state with honor. >> they want to destroy judge roy moore. you know why? they want to take your voice away. >> president trump declaring jerusalem capital of israel. >> i'm concerned about the
4:01 am
threat of terrorist reaction. >> we will always keep the safety and security of americans paramount. >> the president's son set to testify before the house intelligence committee today. >> i want to know about his relationship with wikileaks. could the vice president b have been the only senior person in the dark on this? >> he thinks there's nothing to it. >> this is "new day" with chris cuomo and alisyn camerota. >> good morning. welcome to your "new day". the white house defending president trump's support of alabama senate nominee roy moore. the president's endorsement of an accused child molester forcing republicans to pick between controversial candidate and their principals. former trump strategist steve bannon rallying for more, slamming establishment republicans again. accusing mitt romney of hiding behind his religion to avoid serving in street ma. >> and president trump's
4:02 am
suspected announcement that the u.s. will recognize jerusalem as israel's capital. and he will make good on his campaign policy to move the embassy there. we have it all covered. caitlyn collins is live in fair hope, alabama with our top story. caitlyn? >> reporter: good morning, alisyn. with just six days left to go in this high-stakes race here in alabama, steve bannon came down to the south to rally support for his candidate in this race, roy moore. but instead of folk focusing his time criticizing his opponent doug jones, steve bannon spent most of his time going after the republican establishment. and he saved his harshest criticism for mitt romney and republican senator of arizona jeff flake.
4:03 am
>> reporter: despite mr. trump's five deferments after romney denounced moore saying no vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity. >> judge roy moore has more honor and integrity in his pink in finger than your family has in its whole dna. >> reporter: jeff flake also on the end of bannon's criticism after posting this picture to moore's democratic opponent doug jones, noting country over
4:04 am
party. >> you're a total embarrassment. if you're going to write a check, write a check. >> reporter: and taking him at senate majority leader mitch mcconnell who appeared to flip-flop over the weekend. >> roy moore should step aside. i'm going to let the people of alabama make the call. >> the people of alabama were always going to make the call, mitch. >> if he were to be elected, he would immediately have an issue with the ethics committee. >> reporter: without directly addressing the allegations against him, moore casting himself as a political outsider while reminding voters of his controversial conservative values. >> and i know we do not need trans gender in our military. if i'm in the foxhole i don't want to know whether this guy next to me is wondering whether he's a woman or a man or flip back and forth. >> reporter: white house press secretary sarah sanders
4:05 am
defending the president's position. >> the president's position hasn't changed. as we have also said, the president feels that he would rather have a person that supports his agenda versus somebody who opposes his agenda every step of the way. >> reporter: now, the white house has said president trump will not come to alabama to campaign for roy moore. but he is getting about as close as you can get when he holds a rally in pensacola, florida, right over the state line and days ahead of this high stakes race. >> you just heard it from sanders. she tries hard not to say that much. but she just said the president would rather have someone who favors his positions than to take a principaled stand about allegations that even they regard as troubling. caitlyn, thank you very much. let's bring in john avlon and cnn politics reporter and editor
4:06 am
at large chris cillizza. chris, you know, it's as simple as that. i'm not judging the determination by them, but that's the determination by them, which is, yeah, these are troubling accusations but we need the seat. >> it is who am i to judge is the best case scenario for that. worst-case scenario is they see the train coming down the tracks. and roy moore i think is now favored. i don't know if he is going to win. if you're a betting person he is more likely to win than doug jones is. and he's going to come to the senate. and they want to be on the right side of that. mcconnell is in a terrible position. mcconnell has flip-flopped. there's no question. this is political pragmatism. he flip-flopped because he knows roy moore is likely to win. i do think it is dangerous for either political party. we have seen a little bit of this with john conyers.
4:07 am
he did resign yesterday. to say that the most important thing is winning. that winning is the only thing that matters. that principal is not central to a party. winning is not a policy position. winning isn't governing. and that's i think something that the republican party is going to have to deal with if and when roy moore wins. >> yes. but another thing i want to bring up, john, is well, this happened 40 years ago. so it's also dangerous, they would say. the ethics committee cannot go back in time and rewiped the tape to hold you accountable for things that you did in your 30s. so -- if and win he wins that's it, right? this goes away? >> i don't know that it goes away. >> they can have ethics committee hearings. >> but they said they're not going to do it retroactively. >> this is not a criminal
4:08 am
proceeding. but when you have personal testimony and multiple women saying this was a pattern of he behavior by roy moore when he was assistant district attorney, district attorney, that raises questions. a number of republicans saying they wouldn't seat him. now they backed off that. then they're going to have an ethics committee. chris is saying this is a pragmatic decision. ultimately you want to get the seat. that's what the republican party needs to stay focused on. but principal left the station a long time ago in terms of partisan identification. it shouldn't. they are standing up for it. but the complete retreat is troubling. of course this is up to the people of alabama. i think it's a huge mistake for anybody to say that one outcome looks more likely. yes, of course alabama is conservative. the south gets stereotyped. no one has a good turnout model for a special election. >> true.
4:09 am
>> it is who comes out against moore versus people wore o buying into bannon's logic. >> an us versus them is a very, very big theme going on. we saw it in full display on the show yesterday. poppy harlow went at it with roy moore supporter who came on. and listen to the line of questioning and what was insisted on as a narrative. >> do you believe any of these women? >> i believe the man that i know and trust for the last 20 years that served in public office for 40 years. and you know to know what all of this is about? i'll tell you what it's about. it's all about the supreme court of the united states. you understand this is a winner take all race. the one who wins this race will decide the supreme court for the next 30 or 40 years. >> i think there are a lot of really important issues at play here. and american people will decide, the voters of alabama will
4:10 am
decide among those important issues. >> poppy was on point in terms of pushing back on these hypocrisies. but the narrative was clear, chris. these accusations, this is them trying to hurt us. >> yeah. >> and us and our values. the problem for them is they're taking a pass on a values argument. >> that's right. look, this is a convenient argument to make. the quote that stood out from that interview yesterday was she said at some point this is the lynch mob media. this is liberal democrats. this is george soros. i would point out, i don't know all but a number of women who have come forward are republicans, voted for donald trump. you know, i don't know how you put that on the media. but one thing you guys mentioned that is fascinating with bannon, and caitlyn mentioned it in her reporting, if you listened to
4:11 am
bannon, 85% of that is about the republican party. and 15% is about anything else. steve bannon is not really focused on doug jones, chuck schumer, nancy pelosi, john conyers. he's focused on mitch mcconnell, jeff flake, mitt romney. it's all republican. it's fascinate to go me. >> let's listen to that for a second. i want to listen to this. sometimes the hypocrisy is so stark you have to slap your own forehead. >> you ran for commander in chief. you had five sons. not one day of service in afghanistan and iraq. we have 7,000 dead and 52,000 casualties. and where were the romneys during those wars? >> where were the trumps? >> where were the trumps? this is a classic move of deflection. obviously donald trump got numerous deferments. >> five. bone spurs. he cooperate remember which heel. >> this is a truly offensive,
4:12 am
disgusting attack on the romney feeling which has a demonstrated history of public service, going back to his father as well as him. maybe not military service. but then to attack his faith for it and hold up roy moore as a paragon of virtue. and the woman debating with poppy yesterday, that was largely about abortion in that interview, let's not forget roy moore was removed from the alabama supreme court twice. >> two times. >> that's a big deal. this is identity politics, culture politics and a pattern of personal behavior. >> out of nowhere this man said at a rally, i don't want to be in a foxhole with someone next to me trying to figure out if they're a man or woman. >> for the alt-right people who breitbart was progressive on gay rights, freedom means freedom for everybody. backing a candidate who is
4:13 am
baiting on on trance issues and gay rights. it is roy moore politics are rooted in fundamentalists faith. it does not extend when it comes to young women. >> chris? >> to echo john, this is a culture war. they are turning it into a culture war. that hasn't been the republican m.o. in recent years. >> but what conservative doesn't respect women? i know people who are pro-choice will say on that issue. but in terms of the value argument of the worth of women and of the dignity of women, how do you reconcile being conservative with taking a pass on the accusations? >> chris, look, i would encourage people if they haven't watched that poppy interview with the spokesman for roy moore, janet porter, you know, the way in -- first of all, she said all the women are lying. the way they divisively refers to the women is yearbook fraud.
4:14 am
it is is hard to reconcile. you can like roy moore. you can view him as more in line of your position. but the savaging of these women and roy moore's inconsistencies on who he met, did he know any of that, the pattern of behavior these women come forward. none of them know one another, all of whom tell similar stories. >> it wasn't really dating. he got a break from "washington post", the woman who was 17 remembered dating roy moore. it is not the issue. assault accusations are the issue. it is not about consensual relationships, philandering. that is beside the point and nonsense is. this is two different accounts of women who say i was underage or of age and i was assaulted by the man. >> a man in his 30s, public servant, holding himself up as a paragon of values who dated teenagers. this is not tough to square, though. let's be real clear. this is an attempt to deflect
4:15 am
and attack the victims and accusers. this is about an attempt to muddy the truth and to try to pretend it's about issues that it isn't. voters of alabama will decide in a few days. this is a very high stakes election. and it is the soul of the republican party or what's left. >> if they really cared about leaving it to the alabama voters, president trump wouldn't have endorsed anybody. if you want to leave it to them, stay out of it. you already backed somebody who lost against roy moore. that was your call. now stay out of it. >> he wants to be for roy moore. i think he feels tricked that he was for luther strange in the primary in the runup. he wants to be for roy moore because he sees a kindred soul, someone he believes is the victim of a railroading by women, a fighter against political correctness, someone at war with the liberal media. all things donald trump believes deeply. >> he is going to have to put his arms around the man.
4:16 am
when he is seated in the senate and he says gay marriage and starts talking about beast ality, the president will have to own that. >> on that note, thank you very much. now to the russia investigation. in less than two hours, donald trump jr. will be in the hot seat answering questions from the house intelligence committee as new questions surface about what exactly vice president pence knew about michael flynn's contacts with russia. cnn's jeff zeleny is live at the white house. jeff. >> reporter: that's right. lawmakers will be questioning donald trump jr., the president's oldest son. a top question on their list of course is that meeting at trump tower back in june 2016 with russian operatives. it is new revelations about michael flynn's lies to the fbi that is raising new questions this morning about whether vice president mike pence knew or how he managed to stay in the dark about those russia contacts.
4:17 am
new questions about how or whether vice president pence could have remained in the dark over michael flynn's talks with the russian ambassador. it is causing anxiety within the president's inner circle, that he will eventually be called for an interview with special counsel. court documents unsealed last week show several trump advisers talked about his calls with sergey kislyak over u.s. sanctions even as pence's aides still insist the vice president was unaware. how some of trump's top confidantes would have known and pence did not is a mystery hanging over the russia investigation. a review of the time events raises more questions than answers. on december 20th, pence holds a national security meeting at the transition offices in washington. on december 28th, the day possession obama approved new sanctions against russia for meddling in the 2016 election, president-elect trump said this. >> what do you think generally
4:18 am
about sanctions? >> i think we ought to get on with our lives. >> flynn calls k.t. mcfarland at mar-a-lago with other transition officials to discuss russian sanctions. flynn calls kislyak to talk about sanctions. then calls mcfarland back to talk about the kislyak phone call. 16 days later, january 14th, pence calls flynn to personally ask about his calls with kislyak. pence goes on television. >> i talked to general flynn yesterday, and the conversations that took place at that time were not in any way related to new u.s. sanctions against russia or the, expulsion of diplomats. they did not have anything to do with the discussion to expel diplomats. >> reporter: five days later, trump is sworn in as the 45th
4:19 am
president of the united states. pence is sworn in as vice president. on february 9th, a "washington post" story reveals flynn did, in fact, discuss sanctions with kislyak. on february 14th, trump fires flynn. three days after that, the president offered his reasoning for flynn's dismissal. >> he didn't tell the vice president of the united states the facts. and then he didn't remember. and that just wasn't acceptable to me. >> reporter: now the vice president's office still maintains he did not know about any of this. we talked to seven officials at the time and some who still work for him and they said he did not know about this. he was not in on any of those discussions here. but it raises the question of can the vice president maintain his credibility by being in the loop for these conversations and still, you know, answer questions of how he could not have known about any of this. so the reason that this matters
4:20 am
is flynn, we know now lied to the vice president. he's cooperating of course with special counsel's office. as this investigation comes closer to the inner circle, will the vice president be called to testify or some some of these questions about how he could not have known. most urgently is the meeting on capitol hill with donald trump junior. >> thank you, jeff zeleny. the poison of partisan politics is seeping into nearly all the debates on capitol hill. calling congressional investigations on russia's election to stall. we'll ask a member of the senate judiciary committee why aren't they getting anything done. r co. interfered and how it can be stopped next time are being handled by congress. by all indications that progress has gotten very constipated. dianne feinstein is accusing chuck grassley of not digging deeply into that committee's investigation. is politics poising this. joining us is senator john kennedy of louisiana, a member of that committee. if i don't get to speak to you before christmas, merry christmas. thank you for coming on "new day" as often as you do, sir. >> thank you, chris. same to you. >> what's going on? is feinstein right? is congress just poisoning the well and progress being the victim? >> well, it's hard to me to defend it because i don't set the policy of the committee. that would be senator grassley. i would make this point. it is is not like the committee has done nothing. serious graham held a very
4:26 am
informative subcommittee meeting where we explored social media and russia's involvement in the 2016 election. i hope we have more hearings like that. my sense is that senator grassley has made the decision to defer more, not exclusively but defer more to the senate intelligence committee. some of my colleagues who happen to be defendants like senator feinste feinstein, blumenthal don't agree with that. >> so what's going to happen? >> i don't know. congress does have a role to play here, obviously. so does the fbi. but the fbi is concentrating on what criminal violations, if any, were committed. the role of congress is to look out a little further and talk about policy. i would like to see us play a bigger role.
4:27 am
i don't want to step on the toes of senate intelligence and start subpoenaing the same witnesses at the same time. but speaking personally, i would like to see us play a bigger role. >> yes, we want to find out who if anyone coordinated, colluded. but the thing that started all of this, the interference, how did they do it? how do you stop it? how do you keep your democracy more secure from this kind of invasion? it appears congress is nowhere on it. >> well, it's going to get worse. one thing that was clear to me from the hearing with the social media companies, facebook, for example, not to pick on them. but facebook has absolutely no idea who is advertising on its platform. none. they have 5 million advertisers every month that changes daily,
4:28 am
weekly, by the minute. they have no idea who is running these ads. we focused on russia. but others could have run ads. i'm not making the allegations. for all we know, venezuela did. they just don't know. and i know they have said confidently, well, this many ads were run. let me tell you, they don't know. they're not geared up to know. >> the speculation is they can know whatever they want to know. it's up to you guys to put the pressure on them to make them know. >> and i don't want to see government get too heavily involved in regulating social media. but at the same time, their power scares me. they need to step up to the plate and discuss some reasonable alternatives. >> they can do the same thing we have to do in every other media outlet in terms of reporting political donations. they can start there. another thing that is a matter of principal. what's going on with roy moore.
4:29 am
here's what frustrates me. i want your take on it. if you want to leave this question to the alabama voters, then stay out of it. don't endorse anybody. don't weigh in on it. that's not what the president has chosen to do or other congressional leaders in the gop. they seem to have flip-flopped. and this seat matters more than any of the moral questions surrounding roy moore. fair criticism? >> yeah. i think it's fair. my point of view is if a candidate who is in his 30s took out a 14-year-old girl, undressed her, tpopbld elled her, asked her to tpopbld el him, that's a crime and he is not qualified to be a united states senator. now those are allegations. mr. moore denied them. and he is not going to quit. now the people of alabama get a
4:30 am
say. if mr. moore is elected he will be seated under the law. he has to be. somebody will file an ethics complaint, chris. that's just a fact. then there will be a full-fledged investigation. people will be talked to under oath. and the senate will get to vote. i try not to rejudge the facts. i haven't endorsed anybody in the race. don't intend to. it is up to the people of alabama right now. some of my colleagues have. they have weighed in on both sides. that's their business. i have never trouble paddling my own canoe. >> if the president had said i looked at the accusations. and you had the woman who was 14, a teenager at the time who said moore assaulted her at her place of work or behind it, i've looked at them. i don't buy them. i'm with roy moore.
4:31 am
that's not what he is saying. these troubling questions don't matter as much as having somebody who agrees with them. >> what i want is somebody who backs america. now, who did what to woman, i don't know. if this gets this far through an ethics investigation, i would like to hear mr. moore under oath cross-examined. i would like to talk to the witnesses. i don't know any of these people. or the alleged victims. but i don't know any of these people. >> it seems to be sending a message that there is no floor. if it were 50 women, 70 women or maybe in alabama, maybe it would be a different cultural dynamic if it weren't eight women. if it was eight men who said when i was a boy this happened. what is the northerly floor for what the gop will find
4:32 am
intolerable and say this is too much for us? >> the moral floor to he me starts with the truth. if mr. moore said, okay, i heard the allegations and, yeah, i did it but too bad. the statute of limitations has run. and i'm not going to apologize for it. >> that could be different? >> that would be different. >> understood. >> and he is entitled to due process. so are his alleged victims. and i can promise you if mr. moore is elected that due process will be afforded to both sides because somebody is going to file an ethics complaint. >> right. >> you can take that to the bank. >> we'll see what happens with that. but it has created an interesting question of leadership in that campaign and how people responded to it. let me ask you one other thing while i have you. taxes. it looks like you guys are going to get it done.
4:33 am
is that still the speculation? >> yeah. we have had the votes for 10 days. there's some rough edges on the bill that have to be sanded down in conference. i would like to do something to help upper middle income taxpayers in states that pay high state and local taxes. i'm talking about folks making a couple hundred thousand a year like new york or california. we have to stay within the $1.5 trillion guardrail. it is a solid bill. >> 29% of the american people say they like the bill. it's why they don't like it. some of this, okay, will be partisan division. but when you take this to your home state of although although, just looking through the demographics, it's going to be a tough sell for a lot of people down there. you don't have that new york state population of one
4:34 am
percenters. you have middleclass people in their 50s who may see a spike in their premiums. they are going to see tax cuts that may be there in the beginning fade away in a way that doesn't happen for the rich folks. how do you sell that? >> well, number one, you know, most americans, they don't follow politics every day. they're too busy getting up every day and going to work. number two, i think people will feel a lot better with this bill when their take home pay goes up. i disagree that the tax breaks will go away. that's true of the house bill but not true of the senate bill. >> that's how it was scored by the cbo and tax committee. >> i understand. we can debate the joint tax committee proposal. and i have great respect for joint tax committee. but this stuff is more art than science. they're not clairvoyant. again, i have great respect for them. but you know what i discovered the last ten years, for every
4:35 am
economist, there's an equal and opposite economist. off times with respect to things like the recession of '08 or the affordable care act or the tax bill, both sides are often wrong. >> right. but you have a a little brealit will -- >> here's what i think will happen, chris. >> yes, sir. >> when people understand what's in the bill, they will like it. once their take-home pay goes up, they're going to like it. once they see how it stimulates growth, they're going to like it. when it stimulates foreign, they're going to like it. we have a great court system. they don't invest here. because they have to pay 43% pass did you through tax. so they will go to ireland.
4:36 am
even president macron in france is trying to lower france's tax. i never thought i would see the day. and there is a reason for that. >> we will see what the impacts are. the predictions will make it a tough sell. >> experts are often wrong. >> true. always appreciate your candor and your experiences here on "new day", sir. my best to you. >> thank you. now to russia. donald trump jr. will answer questions before the house intel committee behind closed doors. one democratic senator wants don junior to testify in public. the white house is defending president trump's endorsement of controversial senate candidate roy moore. is the white house putting moore's vote ahead of allegations of child molestation and the larger questions of morality. joining us with her take on that and other news items, counselor to on president trump kellyanne conway. always a pleasure to see you. >> it's my pleasure, christopher. how are you? >> better than i deserve.
4:41 am
let me ask about this spin out of the white house that the president needs somebody who agrees with him and he will endorse roy moore because that matters more. >> oh, that spin. here are the facts. when the president endorsed luther strange, he shot up in the polls by double digits. when the president endorsed roy moore, when he started talking about doug jones, the opponent, which you still don't want to talk about but the president does, he took a lead in the polls again. why is that? because the president himself came out and said he doesn't want a liberal in the senate. he wants a reliable vote for taxes for life. >> he would rather have is an accused child molester than a democrat. >> the president said something else that you don't want to reflect. the president has denied those allegations and the president said you have to take that into account too. here yesterday at a panel discussion at an interview in washington, d.c. right after i
4:42 am
was interviews senator gillibrand was asked by polit o politico, do you think al franken should resign. oh, i'm not ready to say that yet. >> do you see an analogy with the allegations against franken and moore? >> no, i see hypocrisy. >> the allegations are so different. two different women who claimed is sexual assault. >> franken apologized and that admits guilty. >> if you deny it, it seems you can become a senator. >> first of all, that's up to the people of each state to decide. >> if it is, why endorse them. stay out of it. you don't vote in alabama. >> does that mean chuck schumer and nancy pelosi don't want jones to win? everyone is really disappointed they couldn't tilt this race the other way by having people living in alabama instead of

conyers should resign? they should lose their jobs. >> conyers did resign. i don't know what franken is going to do? >> right. but the question is should he? or are you putting party before morality? >> i'm a journalist. i'm in the business of testing what you say should happen. >> let me tell you the hypocrisy we see at every turn. al franken is in the senate right now. he has admitted this. in front of a glowing audience -- >> he admitted what? >> excuse me. >> that he took a stupid photo? >> christopher. >> that's what he admits. he doesn't knit that he sexual assaulted somebody. >> hey, chris, did you think it was groping? >> i thought it was a stupid photo in poor taste. >> you see that in your own two eyes. >> these are accusations of sexual assault. if doug jones had these accusations on him, you would talk about nothing else.

>> there is another candidate in this race? >> you would have your name tattooed on your hand with the names of the women on the other hand and hold it up. >> when president trump came out questioning the ideology and vote of doug jones, he will be a reliable vote for tax hikes, against border security and keeping reliable votes against the second amendment. he's out of step for alabama voters according to the president. the president has said this. you have to reflect that. and here's something else. >> but it seems you have no standard of morality. that it is all political pragmatism. not you personally. i'm talking about president trump. if anything you benefit from bias on my behalf because i have known you for 20 years. that's why i listen to this stuff that doesn't make sense. president trump seems to have no

moral standards. >> the president has tremendous moral standards. he said it is troubling. >> they are troubling but not troubling enough to do anything about them. >> wait. did you just tell the world that senator franken took a stupid photo and i don't know exercised poor judgment but you're not troubled by that? is that because he is a reliable vote for higher taxes, for no border security. >> yeah. i would love higher taxes. i'm the one person in america that wants their taxes to go up. that's silly. i'm saying you're comparing to al franken to roy moore to help mitigate the accusations against moore and it's obvious. >> no. let me just review one last time so everybody has got it. >> sure. do better this time. >> the president has said the following. the allegations are troubling. roy moore has denied them. the president said they are 40 years old. >> so what? who cares how old they are? >> i'm reflecting to everybody so they have facts first, chris. we're talking apples and not

banan bananas. >> let's not be a banana. >> i see lots of bananas. he said they are trouble, 40 years old. no one has come forward before. he's been on the ballot many times. doug jones is a liberal democrat and he doesn't want a liberal democrat in the u.s. senate. others are saying, well, i'm not sure yet. they want a reliable democrat to have that senate seat in minnesota. but you don't call them out on that. and i do want to tell you something else about alabama. last night, governor romney, because i have been watching all morning your broadcast. last night the president spoke with governor romney and the president says he has a great relationship with governor romney. they had a wonderful conversation, according to president trump. they discussed, among other things, what president trump did the day before in utah with the national monuments and talking

about historic tax cuts and the like. >> so it's not true that the president doesn't want romney to take a seat. >> i didn't see governor romney file papers for orrin hatch's seat. the president as he did with luther strange, he supports -- he was supporting an incumbent republican. a reliable vote for their share. >> if orrin hatch steps away, would he support romney? >> you're asking me a hypothetical. >> you said they have a great relationship. why wouldn't i assume the answer would be yes? >> i just want to make sure that you know the truth coming from the white house. the president of the united states and governor romney spoke, i don't know, 10 hours ago, less than 12 hours ago. otherwise, there's speculation, hand wringing about who the president speaks to. the only endorsement that

matters in alabama is the president's. he came forward for strange and strange shot up in the polls. again, the president is against doug jones, does not want a liberal democrat to represent alabama, leaving it to the alabama voters and says he wants roy moore in the united states senate. >> and you fell good with that? you feel good with roy moore as a reflection of your party? >> my feelings don't matter. >> oh, yes, they are. you are counselor to the united states. roy moore is a guy who talks about gay marriage as if it were beast ality. >> any time i express a feeling about a candidate, people who want to make themselves relevant gets airtime. >> well, you have to be careful about the hatch act, observing the rules of ethics there. >> let me tell you what i feel good about, that donald trump is the president of the united states, for mike pence being the

yesterday, saying things about romney that are equally true about trump and his kids, and why would the president let that happen. >> you said many things in there that is not true, sending him down there. steve bannon has been with roy moore for a while now. >> what about what he said? >> excuse me, and i am telling you that this president spoke to governor romney last night. >> did he apologize for what bannon said? >> i will not tell you the contents of the full conversation, and i am not sure the president was aware of that because we -- the president and the first lady stood in line for three hours taking pictures with members of congress and their spouses and the cabinet -- >> do you call out steve bannon about what he said about mitt romney, that he hides behind his

a democrat. that's always true. he did not have these accusations against him. he is not a man that said his idea and his religion is more important than what the supreme court says. that's okay because he's going to agree with the president so the president is willing to swallow all that to get somebody to vote along his way. >> no, the president is very clear on this. you know the democrats are protecting their own already in office in large part because they want reliable democratic votes. >> he said he was going to be better, that he wouldn't play the same games. >> democrats have wasted an entire year, literally they wasted all of 2017, and talking about 2020, and -- >> boxed out. they are boxed out, they don't have the numbers, and they don't have the influence, and they -- we know how the dynamics work. >> the republicans passed

w. bush promised to move the embassy to jerusalem, and the united states senate agreed with that, and said in four years they would do that. instead, president clinton did the six month waivers, and president bush did something similar. >> what reason did they offer for not doing it? >> president trump is making good on a promise. >> it was national security concerns. nobody has an embassy in jerusalem. >> chris this president, the gop political reality is the administrative state does exist in jerusalem. >> why does nobody else have an embassy there? why do people say it's a dangerous thing to do. even the pope said leave it there. >> this is what the president said, and this is what we are going to talk --
