the white house team said the president is just trying to keep the good will into the summit. critics would say this is a regime and this dictator has fired missiles over japan and south korea not someone you call excellent and nice. >> i was talking to members of congress after the remarks. republicans are generally supportive of the president were taken aback and concerned that his eyes might not be wide open walking into the negotiations as the administration says they understand that this is a regime you can't necessarily trust. i think there is a lot to be said about whether or not north korea is in a position of strength going into talks. they tested a nuclear weapon last year. they are the ones who held americans hostage and released

legality? michael cohen saying i will give you my trump wisdom. american people don't like it. in this regard donald trump probably thinks he has changed. what is the legality question? >> that is what the mueller team is trying to figure out. and trying to figure out if there is action against these paying clients and if this has connection to perhaps the stormy daniels payment in november that happened right before the election in 2016 that michael cohen paid. it's uncertain. we do know that the special counsel has interviewed some companies and their involvement with michael cohen so the question is what do they have? >> and a separate federal investigation, too. the special counsel has questionchise is related to

to allegedly fix the chaos or disorder in the president's legal team. the first rule of holes stop digging. rudy giuliani keeps saying things that the president has to clean up. he says this about the idea of the possibility of an interview with robert mueller. if we believed they would go into it honestly and with an open mind we would be inclined to do it. our understanding is he is pretty much finished. does rudy giuliani have the insights for us to accept that mueller is down to the last couple of conversations and wants the president to be the wrap up? >> nothing that rudy giuliani has offered us in the last few weeks suggests that he is sort of a disciplined and has specific knowledge that he is offering. the interesting thing to me that occurred to me is if you look at michael avenati he is

essentially a lawyer but serving as a troll. he is trolling president trump but in an incredibly disciplined way and strategic and tactical way. i think that is what the president had hoped rudy giuliani would be is a counter troll but it is not working out because he is not disciplined and runs his mouth in all sorts of things that he doesn't know about. is donald trump the last witness or not. he probably doesn't know the details of the case so he gets himself in trouble. that's the problem. >> this plays out as we wait and we don't know how long we have to wait for legal reports. maybe just a written report. what do we make from this? we are approaching the one year mark. do we accept it to come from the vice president? >> it's been about a year since this investigation began. our administration has provided over a million documents.

we fully cooperated and in the interest of the country i think it is time to wrap it up. i would very respectfully encourage the special counsel his team to bring their work to completion. >> how about i'm the vice president of the united states i shouldn't talk about these things? >> there is that. there are a lot of people that aren't doing the greatest job from fully recusing themselves from whether talking about open questions from the president to the vice president to cia director nominee. this is the general question. it's beyond reproach. there is just the matter of i have no idea if mueller is done with the trump interview but it is a fair guess that if you are building your case towards the center of the oval office that you wouldn't want to do that interview before you have your stuff. maybe they feel like this is a way to play chicken with the

themselves. will it happen? >> they may be able to force a vote. it is possible this is an unusual effort and rare that you are able to circumvent the wishes by doing this effort known as discharge petition where you get 218. there are moderate republicans joining forces to get enough support to force a vote. the speaker is resisting this. his argument has been this will not become law so what is the point? they passed a lot of bills that will not become law. this is an issue that is dev devisive. >> it potentially undermines the president's position, as well. even if -- everybody is saying they will never get through. there are votes for some sort of immigration bill if it can get

on the floor. the country has shifted towards a more open minded view of how we should be conducting immigration policy. you have a person in the white house saying no and only wanting the wall and that is setting up a giant clash in the gop. >> we saw the frustration mounting. the president berating her. congress passes money and he is saying where is my wall derating her and saying he wanted to sign a bill protecting the dreamers. he is being told this is about the base. talk about immigration and be tough. john mccain writing this, he wants to have these issues debated. he was part of the kennedy bush mccain bill that gave path to citizenship. because it is something this country needs to do now and this political moment the old fears appear to be on the rise again exploited by opportunists who won't trouble with scruples

one last time around the inside politics table help get you out ahead of the big political news. >> on the ongoing saga of russia probes we are heading towards potential war of intelligence committees because supposed to put out the assessment of whether it agrees with the assessment that russia tried to medal in the 2016 election specifically with trying to aid president trump. the house put out the report saying we don't think it followed best practices. burr has been teasing at it. if they decide differently that really complicates the political position that the house republicans have been trying to establish of nothing to see here and really sets up a clash in the gop of how we will approach what happened and what we are going to do going forward.

>> can't wait. >> last week's confirmation hearing a big fight came over her role in 2005 and the destruction of interrogation tapes, something she said she was ordered to do and something ordered by her superiors but acknowledged being an advocate for that. a special prosecutor investigated this and did not come forward with charges but detailed what happened including her role. that has only been available for members of the senate intelligence committee in a classified setting tlmpt was a push by democrats as well as jeff flake to allow full senate access to that report. i'm told it paints her in a rather unflattering light so some critics are hoping more will see this and perhaps someone will change their mind and decide to vote against her over her role in the episode. her chances of confirmation seem

pretty assured at the moment. no word yet from the justice department who will make the decision over whether the full senate should have access. >> a little sports news today. last week the united states government spent fifa a letter saying that they would not ban the soccer teams from coming into the united states because of president trump's travel ban if the united states gets the wurl's cup in 2026. now, they did say that if an individual soccer player needed to be restricted from the united states they can still do that but wouldn't ban hold teams if the travel ban is in place. it is interesting softening of the president's rhetoric. the decision on the world cup by fifa comes in mid june right before the supreme court decides whether travel ban is constitutional. >> love when we get sports into

politics. >> i think something that got missed was john kelly's strained relationship with the media that was on display after the npr interview where he had to correct himself by saying it was simply a distraction. we saw this before in his last interview when he said the president's views had evolved and the president said no they haven't. john kelly told the interesting story that i am skeptical of where he said a reporter said you are our worst nightmare because you have instilled order in the west wing and stopped leaks from coming out of there which if you have been watching the news that is not true. it is very interesting to see how john kelly views himself compared with how people who cover the white house see him. >> i will close with a question. the trump administration holds
