finger at our neighbors, look like desperate frightened people do, for someone to blame. or stand up and try, at least try to build a better world. to look for instead of a man on a horse to save us or a wall to keep us apart, to our better angels. the world was watching as prince harry and meghan markle
1:01 am
were married. welcome to our viewers. 4:00 a.m. on the u.s. east coast and it is the day after the big day and the first day prince harry and meghan markle are married. the last we saw of the glamour couple was them heading to even aing reception in a jaguar. they aren't leaving for their honey moon. they have an official engagement to carry out this week. let's go to our royal correspondent. you covered the royals. you covered the wedding. how are you feeling? what moment or moments remain
1:02 am
poignant for you? >> it's a weird calm on the town today. so it's sort of a low today. we are looking at them with bags under their eyes. we are not going to get any information about it. it is the naturally poignant moments. you saw meghan's mother with tears in her eyes. the defining image will be meghan walking into the church solo.
1:03 am
i think the choir absolutely rocked it yesterday. they really stand out. the kids were very well behave affidav after a few disasterous rehearsals. it is a brilliant piece. have a look at this. >> standby my from 1961. we assume it's never been sung at a british royal wedding before. ♪ there was a palpable dense in
1:04 am
contrast a warmth and vivid emotion and on the other side it looks like she may help change things. we weren't disappointed. the church filled. elton john and serena williams, the vintage rolls royce.
1:05 am
it seems meghan always seemed to walk down the first part of the aisle by herself. in the absence of her father prince charles met her half way. of course at this wedding there was love. this was visibly inescapably a romantic union. >> the late dr. martin luther king once said, and i quote, we must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. >> he wasn't getting anything out of it. >> i meghan, take you harry to
1:06 am
be my husband to love and to cherish until death us do part. >> until death us do part. >> so harry and meghan were married and kissed without any prompting from the waiting camera man. my baby he said looked beautiful and very happy. what seemed like californian sunshine she is the dutchess and we'll probably refer to them as harry and meghan. >> what a special day. >> indeed. one question that comes to mind, this was such a different ceremony. the reverend dr. martin luther
1:07 am
king jr. what has been the reaction so far about what you have heard about meghan markle's personal touches? >> i spoke to someone who was with her the night before the wedding. i asked about the feminism side. i asked is it a message? she said no. she's doing it the way she wants to do it. to do things your own way, express your own character is incredibly hard do especially for a foreigner who doesn't understand the system. perhaps it worked in her fay
1:08 am
var. i have to say, the royal family allowed her to be herself which of course they didn't do with diana to disasterous effect. it. >> was refreshing once you realize this ceremony is different. it's you nuke. it's about meghan and harry. >> and all inclusive. >> thanks. excellent kcoverage. let's continue with richard.
1:09 am
>> long day yesterday. >> indeed. it was extraordinary. this was a ceremony with global reach on social media. there's never been anything bigger. we had our first american princess. she was able to choose so much as harry was paying tribute to her. it was the choice of a hymn. images flooded and the kiss between a couple so obviously and deeply loved under that as they left the chapel.
1:10 am
above all, a ceremony where you could see two people so deeply in love and wonderfully diverse backgrounds. >> and that's really the question that i have here. how different this was, if fact, certainly something that has not been able to see something. he delivered the address. what did you think? >> i think it was a remarkable
1:11 am
affair. it does take some of those stiff upper lip addresses. what we were seeing here is it reflected meghan's -- he summed it up, two young people fell in love and we all showed up. >> i remember that. i was starring at the other royal family trying to get a read on their faces. no. they had the stipupper lip
1:12 am
going. will we get any feed back? will we let the queen -- will she let them do it their way? >> of course it wasn't an occasion such as charles or diana and because also meghan biracial and proud of it, divorced and also a humanitarian activist since the age of 11. i mean since she was allowed so much range to choose as harry was i think basically the couple set the service up together choosing things that were important to them. so you had this intimacy.
1:13 am
so it was something that was very very special. one of the things that fascinated me was to look at the love and adoration that we saw. it really was very very touching. meghan seemed so controlled, so enchanting, where the veil was lifted. >> he got it right, didn't he? >> to see a biracial woman, the family certainly sending a message with this that we saw play out. thank you. we'll have more royal wedding
1:14 am
coverage coming up including some of the best fashion moments from celebrity guests. plus we'll take you back to hawaii. up next we are checking on hawaii's big island where eruptions still opening up the ground.
1:15 am
1:16 am
1:17 am
1:18 am
you can see molten lava. two separate lava flows have come together. >> those pictures are impressive. it's very dangerous. that highway serves as a critical escape route. >> you predicted this thing was not going to be over soon. i don't think i have fissure as much as i have the last two
1:19 am
weeks. >> sit a breathing hazard. as if magma, lava wasn't enough two of the concerns going forward. acid rain is a product of the plumes that are coming from some of these fissures that are opening up. it is interesting to look at the series of earthquakes that have struck this region within the past two weeks.
1:20 am
don't go cancelling your trip to this beautiful tropical paradise. if you were traveling to kauai that is the same distance of traveling london to glasgow. much of hawaii not being impacted by this. the people that are have a lot to contend with.
1:21 am
>> i was like i know what that is. >> two different things. >> so hawaii is still open for business and for any people that might be planning a honey moon. >> in the u.k. >> a great transition. >> all right. other news is a horrific news in texas. the town of santa fe is mourning the death. >> we are learning much more about the victims. he was an exchange student from pakistan. it was call add bridge between our people and cultures. another young life lost, jared black. >> jake stone described as adventurous and willing to try anything. and shanna fisher who had just turned 16 and worried about
1:22 am
getting her drivers license and making plans for summer break. heartbreak. the family of the alleged shooter released a statement aing they are just as shocked and confused by what happened. >> we have more now from santa fe, texas. >> yet another american school turns a crime scene, this time in santa fe, texas. ten people dead and 13 others injured. there are a lot of questions still remaining. here is what we know from authorities. the accused shooter acted alone. investigators interviewing two others that were then cleared. police say that a shotgun and a 38 revolver were used. they talked about pipe bombs and pressure cooker bombs that were used not only in the school but also in other areas. police describing those weapons
1:23 am
and also unsophisticated. it says he turned himself into police and also told officers that he spared some students that he liked so they could tell his story. the accused shooter in custody in solitary confinement and from what we hear from authorities he is cooperating with police. cnn, santa fe, texas. >> we are joined now from steve moore. he is a retired supervise or
1:24 am
special agent. >> i'm hoping something will come out of it. we have to work on this from many different angles. i don't think anybody thinks it will be resolved in the next year or two. until that happens the kids and schools are still in danger. i think we have to also approach it from the point of securing the schools until we can get weapons completely away. i'm not sure we can ever really do that because people can make bombs. people can use cars. >> steve, i would like to get your expertise here as a professional. here is what he thinks is part of the problem, how it could be
1:25 am
solved. let's listen. >> there aren't enough people to put a guard at every entrance and exit. had there been one single entrance possible for every student maybe he would have been stopped. >> steve is a professional that dealt in difficult situations. is this just a dodge from talking about guns and gun control or do you see value in this proposal? wouldn't it create a new safety hazard by limiting exits? >> yes. you do not want a uniformed guard. any student or someone else who is coming to do harm will know there's a guard and the first person they have to shoot is a
1:26 am
guard. that's untenable. i think right now the best situation we have is almost all high schools have school resource officers. those are usually minimally uniformed officers. they can rome around the campus. you don't necessarily know where they are at any given time. they can respond. i think that's the best we can do in that situation. third, i hope this is not a dodge because we have got to resolve this. this shooting puts even more questions out there.
1:27 am
time after time after time after time it happens again. do you see the topic of gun control coming up? >> it should. you can't just say -- see, the problems are on anybody who believes that it is a single solution problem is naive. anybody who puts all of their hope in guns is naive. neighbor this won't discuss guns is naive.
1:28 am
securing the campuses have to be on the table. banks, they have guards. they have security. 7-elevens have security. >> this is a school that had an active shooter plan that had officers armed, officers in position. again, we see yet again another soft target taken advantage of by a gunman. thank you for your time and perspective. we'll stay in touch with you. well, we are going to take your to cuba next, what caused that plane to go down after it took off from havana? we'll have the latest on the investigation. plus the mystery of the fbi informant and the trump campaign. they want the justice department to reveal what it knows.
