there is a lot more to this story, he got paid over a million dollars for representing a prorussian ukrainian political party. one of the people he's in business with -- that name brings familiar was robert mueller named him in the past and in court paper as someone who's expected to be russian spies. patton has agreed as part of the plea deal to cooperate as prosecutors. it was referred over to prosecutors in washington d.c. one more interesting thing about this, john, you nopknow, patton admits that he helped ukrainians funnel money into the trump's inaugural committee. what will they did was used someone else to buy tickets to the trump inauguration so that he could take this ukrainian

with him to the trump administrati administration. what this case does really, what it really does is shows the special counsel and the prosecutors are very much keen on trying to figure out whether foreign money made it into the trump campaign or the trump inauguration. we expect there is more to the story that we'll learn later. >> it is interesting. it does draw a line between foreign money and ukrainian money and the trump political machine. there are more than a few people who wonder if on this friday or late, there will be some perhaps bigger news. while this charge is something, it is that bomb shell expected and there are those who wondered if robert mueller is about to go quiet for months before the midterm elections. i think a lot of people are assuming because there has been this practice at the justice department.
8:05 pm
it is not a written policy that you do observe a period of silence not to affect an upcoming election. in this case we know that special counsel robert mueller plans to say a lot in the next month. we know he's got testimonies that he's going to be taking from witnesses. we expect and we'll see a lot more from robert mueller and more shoes to drop if you will between now and october. there may be a period there, where he'll go quiet for the election because it is something important to observe. we don't expect that to happen right now. >> maybe not yet. >> maybe. >> who knows? >> robert mueller does what he knows. as for the president's team, rudy giuliani, weighed in on the latest conviction, what did he say? >> that's right. what rudy giuliani basically called attention to the fact that there is no mention of donald trump in this plea deal. take a listen to what he had to say.
8:06 pm
>> it turned out to be this irrelevant indictment where mueller has turned into the private prosecutor. what does it have to do with president trump? not a single thing. had nothing to do with collusion and some guy who donated to the inauguration? my goodness, 500,000 people donated to president trump. the prosecutor is going to do it. >> rudy giuliani can minimize this plea deal today but the fact is this is the first time we are seeing on paper that the prosecutors have been examining any foreign money that went into the trump's inauguration. we know from our previous reporting that there were witnesses who were asked of russian money, ukrainian money that made its way into the campaign and the inauguration. it is something we know and very much of the focus of mueller and his investigators. it is a matter of time that we find out the rest of the story.
8:07 pm
as we mention, patton, has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors as apart of his agreement. >> this could be the beginning of patton's role of this story. ed perez, thank you very much. al foreign power could hold such sway over an american candidate that they can believe, they have him quote, "over a barrel." that's what a justice department lawyer told the member of the house judicial committee this week. that person that testified is bruce ohr. the president of the united states made him the target of his online iron and calling him for firing. now, he's the senator of quite a story. cnn's sarah murray has it. what are we learning what christopher steele who he would ohr about this? >> he said he was at a breakfast

the people that's of the special prosecutors that's going to cause great concerns of the president and his allies as well. what's worse for them is you look at the broad scope of this investigation, you have four offices within the department of justice that are now some way involved in this. you have the national security division and you have mueller and you have two u.s. attorney offices that are working of the investigation. they're not leaving any stone unturned and to discredit them to continue. they seem to be the only one out there draining the swamp as evidence. >> this is the first time we have seen formal charges by the government related to a foreign donation to trump's election related events, the inauguration. you think this is a big deal and could lead investigators into more, why is that? i think it is significant. the most important paragraph in the plea documents that were

8:14 pm
close to the russian intelligence agent who was close to paul manafort and to rig gates. i mean we hear this constant reframe from rudy giuliani, no collusion, no collusion, well, actually we see a lot of evidence of collusion. we have not seen the absolute proof presented yet because robert mueller is building his case methodically and he's not going to show his cards before he has to. the building blocks of collus n collusions are there along with the course of obstruction of justice which the president continues to commit in plain sight with his attempt to intimidate sessions and mueller and along with other crimes including the fact that trump's lawyer pleaded guilty to violating campaign laws of the direction of donald trump. the case against donald trump, these are small building blocks that we have seen. the overall case is getting very, very strong. >> in terms of patton, just to be clear. it is clear that samuel patton was extremely close to the trump
