manifort agreed to extensively cooperate with the government. we heard from manafort's lawyer. update him on what he said and how this is playing out. he is completing guilty to one count. that covers pretty much all of the charges he was facing here in court in d.c. it leads the admission doing work for the government. the pro russian government here that he laundered more than $30 million over the year cheated the u.s. government oust $15 million in taxes.
10:01 am
here's what he had to say. take a listen. >> tough day for mr. manafort as he accepted responsibility. he wanted his family to stay safe and live a good life. this is for conduct that dates back many years. everybody should remember that. thank you, everyone. we are hearing that these charges he was facing have nothing do with the trump campaign. he had to do with the activities before he came chairman of the trump campaign, but we know as part of this agreement, he agreed to cooperate extensively. part of that is being able to be
10:02 am
interviewed without the presence of his lawyers. he may have to testify in a future appropriatings and changes against other people. does this have anything to do with president trump and the campaign? we have an answer from rudy giuliani. once again an investigation concluded with the plea having nothing do with president trump. the reason is the president did nothing wrong. they are making clear at least from the trump side that this plea agreement has nothing to do with the president. the bottom line is the prosecutors got a huge victory. he is going to be a cooperator. we don't know what questions they will ask. they can ask any question and he
10:03 am
can't lie when he answers the questions. >> do we know if he remains in jail or has an opportunity to get out of jail. he has been in jail all this time and denied bail because he was engaged in witness tampering. right now he is being taken back to the prison or jail in alexandria where he has been spending the last couple of months. we expect he will remain there and we know as part of this agreement, this resolved the charges in alexandria as well as the charges he has here in washington. when he gets sentenced for both of the cases, we will see what prison time he is going to get. he pleaded guilty here in washington and the maximum he
10:04 am
can get is 10 years. he was about to turn 70 years old. that's a long time for somebody of that age. he is going to be spending more time in jail at least until the sentencing. let's bring in the experts. gloria gorger is here and what do you think? what are the ramifications? they asking about the former campaign chairman. >> what we don't know the details of is who paul manafort will be providing information against and about what he will be providing information against. i have no doubt that the special counsel's office in their communications with him will be asking about a range of issues going from the russia investigation and the trump

10:06 am
he could be tying it together with a neat bow. what he knows, you don't make a plea offer with eight convictions and i will turn the power over to you. he had information and that's akin to the probe. evan perez is talking about what rudy giuliani is saying. none of this has anything to do with donald trump, they always said that. this is before he was engaged by the trump campaign and only worked there for a short period of time. however, however we all know that wall manafort was in the meeting. we all know it would be malpractice not to ask him about
10:07 am
it. of course he will be asked about it. this is kind of stunning about what manafort set up with pr firms and with a law firm about how to hide ukraine about their client not filing as they should have so they can launder the money and get paid by ukraine. i think there is going to be large investigation into the other swamp that exists in washington. companies a and b and company a employee noted and they knew they were working for ukraine, but they couldn't say. you have to see through the

were getting paid by ukraine. people who cooperated with them which were former heads of state. there is a lot of swamp in this. >> they cheated out of over $15 million in taxes. a lot more on the breaking news, but continuing breaking news in the carolinas. tell us what you are seeing and hearing. >> good afternoon to you, wolf. everyone who is watching. we are here in myrtle beach. this is a water maker. the rain eases up and we get more of a downpour. it has been going off and on here.
10:10 am
this is still a category one, but there are power outages all overit state. 620 people without power mostly in north carolina. you have been seeing the pictures that was flooding and storm surges of up to 10 feet. this is between 10 and 30 miles per hour. these people will be dealing with this for a couple of days. this comes through quickly if it's a category two, three or higher. it moves out and leaves the devastation behind. this is sitting on top of the people here, causing them to have to sit in their homes and endure flooding and the power

outages. they wanted to get the last of the beach before they had to hunker down. that is a good thing for the people here who are trying to protect the folks here. law enforcement and rescue workers. the people who did not get out and who were sitting the storm out, if you get into trouble, you have to call these rescue people to get to you. that's going to put their lives in jeopardy and danger as well. my colleague has been out in this all morning. i have been watching you. you are at carolina beach getting pelted by rain. what are you seeing now? >> the rain is coming down. the wind is coming down fast and furiously. the water is coming up.
10:12 am
this is the corner of myrtle avenue in carolina beach. i spoke to the city manager a little while ago and he said this is going to get higher. there is an area down this way that will flood over and the town will be cutoff. he believes it will be saturday or sunday before they will be able to open up the and it has been raining and the wind has been intense and it's not leading up. what you are looking at now is the marina here in carolina beach. this is obviously overflowing.
10:13 am
this is an area that often floods even on good days. what is stunning about what happened in this storm is how quickly it came up. this water came up after about 30 or 40 minutes when the surge started to come in. it happened just after high tide. it really came up fast. now the tide is waning. it should be letting off, but it's going up or creeping up a little bit or staying where it is. one thing they are asking in new hanover county where carolina beach is, if you have an emergency situation and you need to call 911, make sure it is a life-threatening emergency. downed trees and downed lines. just more mundane issues. they can't deal with it right now and the 911 operators are being overwhelmed. that's the situation they have here. about 600 people of the 6200

days. people will be indun dated with hours. rescues are under way in the carolinas and witnessing those are out where it's happening. brian todd is in wilmington. what's going on? >> right, don. this is a rescue attempt at this house here just west of downtown. you see all the emergency personnel. there are two other people in here. we can get a shot of the tree. we don't know the continues of those people inside.
10:16 am
these here brought rescue dogs. one of the police officials told me that part of the house collapsed as well. they have to remove bricks and other things to get to two people inside this house. they have been trying to get at this for hours. they are try ing ing to figure who will be there. it's being complicate bide another downpour and a band of rain that has not relented. you have seen myself and other reporters.
10:17 am
another k0678ication is getting to the houses. over here all through these neighborhoods. i talked to the fire chief about this. he talked about just how difficult it is to get to so many of these people. how difficult it is all night. they have been trying to do it. this is very difficult. we will hang here and see if they can get the people out. >> youed it up really well. that's the difficulty of dealing with the storm. this storm which has been different according to forecasters and many of the hurricanes that come through.
10:18 am
the dangerous rescues are going and really they brought in people from 19 other states according to the governor. man, if it continues on like this and you are continuing the flooding and many more people will have to be rescue and that draws resources thin. we will continue our special coverage as florence came ashore this morning.
10:23 am
we continue on with our special hurricane coverage of florence. i'm in myrtle beach. to give you an idea, this is what they have along the beach in certain sections. it's a storm water drain. as i got here yesterday, this was not nearly as big as it is today. it was a small storm drain. the water is running out into the atlantic ocean. that is a problem. you probably have more flooding. there is flooding going in a number of areas. rescues happening in a number of areas. my colleague is there with major flooding and rescues under way. what are you seeing?
10:24 am
they jumped into action and helping to get to the neighborhoods. if they are taking on water and getting people back in and getting them to shelter. they are riding in the back of the truck under this sharp. it is this why it's so dark in the picture you are seeing on the screen. that's eerie looking and we have been on a couple of runs with this retired marine. he's he just pulled seven people from the neighborhood and taken them to a shelter where they were dropped off. we spoke with one of the volunteers that told us they were given about an hour to set up this shelter because of the influx of people being brought to them. this is in the town of new bern. after they set up the shelter, they have taken in 300 people into that shelter right now. this is the scene and the chaotic nature of how all of this is unfolding this afternoon
10:25 am
in new bern as people are racing out into the streets and to help people in the neighborhoods that have taken on so much water here over the course of the last 24 hours. there was one family here with us who said they have three feet of water in their house. their house started taking on -- ooh, that was a transformer exploding as we drove past. sorry about that. a house has taken on three feet of water at 5:00 in the afternoon yesterday. they rode out the rest of the storm overnight on the second floor being pulled out. we are seeing that all across the area. >> here's the thing. people don't realize other dangers are happening and the

10:56 am
she says kavanaugh pushed her into a bedroom and along with another male, kavanaugh locked the door, played loud music which the accuser says precluded her from being heard when she yelled for help. she says both men were drunk and says kavanaugh allegedly tried to take off her clothes and allegedly had his hand over her mouth. at one point because of this, the accuser said she feared for her life but was finally able to leave the room and eventually left the party. there's no indication the woman ever reported the incident to law enforcement. she says, however, that in the years since she received medical treatment. all of this came to light because senator feinstein revealed yesterday she handed this letter with the allegations over to the fbi. i have been told that the letter has been put in kavanaugh's background file, but there's no criminal investigation here. so meanwhile today brett
