returns seem to point in the direction of possibly getting brett kavanaugh's nomination over the finish line. you pull up what the three senators have said at this point. as you noted, all three are currently in the confidential room, reading this report as it goes through. two went to the briefing this morning. senator collins said she thought it was a very thorough investigation. senator flake said he had not seen additional corroboration. break that out a little bit further. there are two democrats who remain undecided. how they view the report will likely dictate whether or not brett kavanaugh is elevated to the highest court in the land. one thing that has been pointed out. jeff flake, lisa murkowski and susan collins reviewing personally. those initial returns while positive for the republican party don't mean a definitive answer. susan collins has paid attention to mark judge, the friend who is

alleged to have been a witness to christine blasey ford's alleged assault. i am total he was interviewed for more than three hours by the fbi. one of the key things all the senators will be looking for is reading through the transcripts. that will go a long way to whether they have more comfort with what they saw or what they expressed or whether there are problems. earlier returns from republican aides i have been talking to is they feel like the people who needed to see the report and be okay with the report, at least at this point they are. >> encouraging for the white house. relatively upbeat assessments. if they vote in favor, it's all over. he is confirmed because he has

10:06 am
the president and the white house are firmly behind judge kavanaugh and we believe the questions have been addressed in this investigation and to be clear, allegation, we cannot live in a world where allegation alone can sulley a man's reputation for life. >> jim acosta is over at the white house. the fbi report came out and senators are reviewing it right now. what are you hearing from sources where you are. if the president personally saw this report. >> reporter: we don't think he saw the report. he has been briefed on it and briefed on the fact that it has been delivered to senators on t capitol hill and he is getting updates, but they are getting increasingly optimistic at the white house and among the republicans on the senate judiciary committee as to how this is playing out mainly because of the responses you are
10:07 am
hearing from the republican senators, senator susan collins from maine and jeff flake from arizona. both of them making fairly positive comments this morning that harden the prospects for brett kavanaugh. one thing i can point to you from the source close to the nomination process, this person told me a few moments ago, i think both flake and collins set a bar for what they needed to feel comfortable moving forward and so far all signs point to that being met. what you are seeing is the process changing. a process from fact finding and democrats who say this was never a fact finding mission to a vote counting initiative. that is on the republican side, trying to find out if they have the votes to push brett kavanaugh over the edge. do they have joe man thin and heidi heitkamp and they are all talking about this right now. that is going to decide where things end up.
10:08 am
they can play a pivotal role throughout all of this. the president just left the white house for a rally in minnesota taking place later on today. there he is. joint base andrews and wolf, the president after really almost taking this whole process eafr t off the rails when he mocked christine blasey ford in mississippi, he was notably silent when he left the white house and as he gets on air force one. there is a recognition that i was talking to republican sources on the hill last night. there is a real recognition that the president almost threw this off the rails when he made the comments in mississippi. reassuring senators is what's in this supplemental background check on brett kavanaugh handed up to both democrats and republicans up on capitol hill. they are feeling better about the process not because of what the president has done, but
10:09 am
because of the supplemental report. >> the president is getting ready to fly off to minnesota and then rochester, minnesota. another campaign rally. he has been doing a lot in advance the mid-terms. thank you very much. democrats are slamming the latest fbi report, calling it incomplete. jessica schneider is joining us and we are told the fbi interviewed nine people in all. >> that's right. nine people. that was above and beyond the initial four people senators had requested. democrats saying it still wasn't enough. here's a composite of the people the fbi did talk to. first of all, someone considered a key witness here. mark judge. christine blasey ford said judge was in the room when she was sexually assaulted. republican senator john kennedy said that mark judge was questioned for three hours.
10:10 am
we don't know specifically what he told the fbi, but he denied a recollection of the party or the incident and vouched for kavanaugh's character. here's other people who were interviewed. first of all, leland kaiser, patrick, pj smyth. ford said that both of them were at the party and issued statements saying they had no recollection, but unknown what they told the fbi. there is chris garrett and tim gaud et. they were referred to a calendar interview. a gathering at tim's house, brett kavanaugh referred to him as timmy. chris garrett was also there. his nickname was squi. they pointed to this date as a possible party that christine blasey ford was remembering. she hasn't been able to pinpoint the date.
10:11 am
finally, deborah ramirez was the second accuser who claimed that brett kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a dorm room party at yale in the early 1980s. kavanaugh denied all of the claims and we do know three other people were also interviewed, but we don't know their identities. >> who didn't the fbi talk to? >> two big names not interviewed. christine blasey ford herself and brett kavanaugh. democrats including today, dianne feinstein said an investigation without their input was incomplete. the white house counsel's office pushed back in recent days, saying that all senators had the time to get their stories because the hearing was just last week and both of them testified. christine blasey ford's attorneys are not satisfied and released this statement. they said an fbi supplemental back ground investigation did not include an interview of dr. christine blasey ford nor the witnesses who corroborate
10:12 am
her testimony. they cannot be called an investigation. we are profoundly disappointed that after the sacrifice she made coming forward, those directing the fbi investigation were not interested in seeking the truth. they continue to hammer this point. in fact, ford's attorneys just released the letter to the fbi suggesting eight people the fbi should talk to. they are still pressing this point among the list of names that included ford's husband and the former agent who administ administered ford's polygraph and someone also dissatisfied is debra ramirez. they committed a list of 20 plus people who could corroborate the testimony even if they didn't get the testimony. none of those people were ever contacted. we could only conclude with the
10:13 am
fbi and those controlling the investigation did not want to learn the truth behind ms. ramirez's allegations. a lot of discontent and we are learning that the fbi report did include information that came into the fbi tip line and that can be seen by senators and we know the report itself is looking like more than 1,000 pages they are sifting through. >> hourly in the course of today getting ready for a procedural vote on the senate floor tomorrow. thank you very much. joining us now from capitol hill, the democrat from oregon. senator, thanks for joining us. >> you are very welcome. good to be with you. >> have you had a chance to go through the report on judge kavanaugh? >> yes, i have. >> what's your reaction? >> it's a complete cover up. just as it was explained that deborah ramirez's team, they provided 20 people who should be
10:14 am
interviewed because they had information and none of them were talked to. dr. ford provided eight names and none of them were talked to. this was a cherry picking of a few individuals to pretend to do an investigation. this is a complete embarrassment on the reputation of the fbi. if they did this at the direction of the president, it's a massive abuse of fairness and justice to the women who came forward to share their experiences. >> the senate judiciary committee and republican leadership said there is nothing in the new report that they didn't know before and you didn't know before either. what do you say to that there is nothing new to learn. >> there are a few details, but nothing new to learn because they didn't look for information. if thank you don't enview any of the 28 individuals, you are going to learn nothing.
10:15 am
they only talked to people in an effort to have a very, very narrow conversation with individuals who they felt would build their ways other than present information. let me give you an information. kavanaugh had a friend named kenneth and he contacted the fbi because he said i heard this story that year. he proceeded to make many efforts to contact the fbi and they did not respond. he is a professor at princeton theological seminary. he was not contacted. he brought it up because it bothered him so much, he brought it up with a roommate of his in graduate school. he brought it up with a roommate named michael who was not contacted. details that were shared long
10:16 am
before kavanaugh was ever up to be a nominee and the fbi did not talk to them even though they asked to be spoken to. this is an example of what a horrific cover up this investigation is. >> so what's your message to your republican colleagues, jeff flake and susan collins who emerged from the closed door room where they had a chance to go through the secret document and offered relatively upbeat assessments. >> we were briefed by a democratic staff when the democrats went in to see the documents. i assume that they were briefed by republican staff. that is not an honest examination of the issues. i would encourage them to look at the fact that these two courageuous women who came forward with stories knowing they themselves would probably be attacked have simply called for a fair investigation.
10:17 am
they have given ford names of 28 individuals. apparently at the direction of the white house they refused to talk to those individuals. none of my colleagues could possibly say that was comprehensive. none of them could say it was fair if they know this information. >> if these two republicans vote in favor of confirmation, it's over. are you going to directly contact susan collins, jeff flake, and explain what you sought and try to convince them to vote against confirmation. >> i certainly will share in a very polite fashion, this suggestion that this cannot possibly be construed as comprehensive. they are struggling to try to find a point of reason and a point of fairness. i want to make sure that they
10:18 am
have the full story, not a misleading briefing from a partisan perspective. let's think about this. senator flake really did something very important in calling for a fair examination of these women's experiences. this is not a fair examination. he said two things. he couldn't support the justice if the justice lied to the committee. second, he said it had to be an authentic investigation. both of those tests failed. they don't fail barely, they are completely failed. they get an f. the judge misrepresented many, many faxes before the committee has been well documented. and he certainly -- this is not a comprehensive or fair investigation. >> senator america merkley, tha
