devastation. >> where are your emotions today? >> it's like this. i'm trying to grasp it because this was never in our imagination. this year was such a tremendous thing that happened to our home here. it's hard to grasp. where do we start? what do we do? there is nothing left here. >> keep those people in your thoughts and prayers and do what you can to help. have a great day. wolf starts right now. hello, i'm wolf blitzer. it's 1:00 p.m. in washington. utter devastation is the best wa i to describe parts of the florida panhandle hit by hurricane michael. houses have been blown away or swept away. several roads are buckle and covered in debris. within just 24 hours, an area
10:01 am
that is home for some and a family vacation spot for so many others is unrecognizable. that's just what we know about the areas that are accessible. some of the damage has been and can only be viewed by air. brooke baldwin gave us a tour. >> reporter: we have flown over mexico beach and it's gone. it's gone. we are going to get there to show you guys exactly how bad it is, but it's obliterated and it's awful to look at. i mean, as we watch the deterioration along the coastline, i have never seen anything like this. >> this home used to be about a football field away right along the water. this storm and the wind carried it 100 yards this way and landed it on its side like straight out
10:02 am
of the wizard of oz. come on in, sir. you have been incredible. what were you seeing float past your window? >> what we seen was the cars were starting to float by and stuff. all the debris was in the air and the wind was so strong and stuff. and the next thing, when the water came in, houses started floating in front of our homes and stuff. and then once you seen that, everything just went black. you couldn't see anything anywhere. the storm was so strong. we had furniture in our house that was not each our furniture. the walls collapsed and stuff. the only thing i could find of ours was my brief case. i never imagined this would happen to our home and stuff. it's hard to grasp. where do we start? what do we do? there is nothing left here. >> all of that footage was from mexico beach on the florida
10:03 am
panhandle. what fema is calling ground zero. brian todd is on the scene joining us live. when you were flying over, you said mexico beach had been obliterated. now that you are on the ground, do you feel that way? >> reporter: wolf, we have been trying to get to mexico beach have a land and have not been able to get there. and power lines or by law enforcement. right now we are about 50 miles away from mexico beach and we are still inching forward, but not too hopeful because again, between roads blocked with massive trees and teams trying to cut through them and power lines which you have to zigzag around, law enforcement blocking us. we have not been able to get through yet.
10:04 am
we hit one and law enforcement said the only people they were letting through were first responders and power crews. it seems to be inaccessible by land. we are trying and it's not too hopeful getting there by land. it gives you a sense of how horrible it must be for the people who stayed back. not only dealing with the devastation, but they seem to be at least fairly isolated unless you can get there by air or boat. land access is very limited, if you can get there at all. >> awful, awful situation. we will check back with you, brian todd. diane gallagher is in panama city, another area hit hard by the deadly storm. the first full day since michael. what are you seeing? >> reporter: you know, wolf, every block looks something like this. at least one structure that has been ripped from the ground by
10:05 am
the winds of hurricane michael. people woke up to see the damage on their homes. they felt the damage. a lot of people rode the storm out. i have three of them with me. becky, her son philipp, and her grandson, chris. your home is -- talk to me about riding the storm out. >> it was scary. my children wanted me to leave, but when i have an animal and they only have so many places you can put them. i don't have cages. i have to ride it out. >> what was that like? >> it was rough to see my air conditioner about bounce out of the wall and the floor shaking. just so i could be safe. i tell you what, i'm an old girl. i rode out on a broom. >> i appreciate your sense of humor. you weren't going to stay.
10:06 am
you didn't want to leave your mom. >> i wasn't going to leave my mama behind. she was staying and was staying. my trailer got completely wiped out. >> i'm not sure if you have seen video of this mobile home park or not, but it doesn't exist anymore. philipp's trailer is no longer there. there is a mattress and his belongings, but it no longer exists. what was it like for you? >> it was a nightmare, but you know, it's just items. it can be replaced. the humans can't. >> a lot of people hear that and say why would you risk that by staying there? >> well, that's our home. >> that's my mama. a lot of people take a lot of things for granted, but when you only have one parent that's alive, you are going to do what you gotta do to stay.
10:07 am
if she can't going, i wasn't going. >> your son chris stayed also. how old are you? 12? your grandma is like i rode out on a broom. did you feel that way? >> yes because we seen across there, me and my daddy spent about two hours watching in front of the windows and we saw like three trees landing on all three of the neighbor's yards. that really got me scared and everything. >> chris, you are only 12 years old. were you afraid that you were going to die? >> yes. because i have my life to live and my future. my dream job, i want to be a construction worker. >> a lot of them are out right now. they are going to need a lot of
10:08 am
help. i have seen help come through and see the power trucks coming through. i have seen flatbeds with generators and the national guard and seen different agencies from all over. a lot from louisiana. i saw samaritans first. in their particular neighborhood where all but one home was significantly damaged or completely destroyed. i haven't seen them go back yet. the good news is there was only one injury. that was incredible. they are hurting and don't have water or food at this point. everything they own has been destroyed. a lot of these people don't have anywhere to go, wolf. that's the situation we are seeing in parts of panama city right now. it being loolooks awful. they don't know what they will do for the next couple of days or couple of weeks. >> i take it hundreds of thousands of customers don't have power. no electricity. that's going to be the case for a while.
10:09 am
>> yeah. that is going to be the case for a while. i can say that they had them staged. almost 20,000 of these workers when it came to utilities and power were staged and steadily coming through. except for emergency facilities like hospitals and the emergency operations center and things like that, we have not seen any of this power come back on for anybody. look, it's extensive. i am looking around and almost all of the power lines are down. we are trying to avoid downed power lines around here. the winds came through and snapped these poles that makes it hard to get through the roads to repair things. the trees, they had to get those out of the way to repair those as well. in order for them to bring the power back, they have to get to it. that's another problem they are dealing with here. >> lots of problems. we will get back to you. diane gallagher is on the scene
10:10 am
in the florida panhandle. cnn is on the ground in mexico beach in florida. we are getting our first live pictures from there as well. take a look at the destruction and the devastation. we are going to go back for a live report. also, the president is meeting now with kanye west inside the oval office. we are told the scene turned surreal very quickly. we are going to play the videotape for you when we come back. [ beep ] first man is "the best movie of the year." we're going to the moon.

neil armstrong. buzz aldrin. that is a big mother... it's gonna be a hell of a ride. [ dramatic music playing ] we got a bad fire. there's no easy way to say this... they're gone, neil. we need you to be commander. we need to fail down here so we don't fail up there. what are the chances this is the last time the boys are gonna see you? 5... 4... 3... 2... first man. rated pg-13.
10:14 am
10:15 am
talk about african-american employment, training programs, prison clemency and crime in chicago. listen to this. >> more money for having more kids in your home and then we got rid of the mental health institutions and the prison rates shot up. now you have shiraq. the murder rate has gone down by 20%. michael sacks, the right hand man. i think it's the bravery that helps you beat this game called life. they tried to scare me to not wear this hat, but this hat, it gives me power, in a way. my dad and my mom separated. i didn't have a lot of male energy in my home. i'm married to a family that, you know, not a lot of male energy going on.
10:16 am
it's beautiful though. there are times where it's something about -- i love hillary and i love everyone. the campaign i'm with her just didn't make me feel as a guy that didn't get to see my dad all the time like a guy that can play catch with his son. it was something about when i put this hat on, it made me feel like super man. that's my favorite super hero. you make a super hero cape as a guy who looks up to you and looks up to american industry guys. nonpolitical, no bullshit, however you want to do it. five second delay. you gave me the heart to go to adidas. when i went in, we are a $14 billion company losing $2 billion a year. now we have a $38 billion market cap. i went to casper. we had a meeting in chicago.
10:17 am
i said you have to bring manufacturing onshore. that is into the core. it's not about the borders. the core of adidas. chicago is the core of middle america. we have to make middle america strong. i had the balls -- i had the balls to put on this hat. this made them a billionaire. i could have lost $200 billion walking away from that deal. it was more important for me to take the chance of walking away from that deal than to have no fathers with no homes and we have prison reformation. they don't have the abilities in the first place. we never had anyone to teach us. we had no one to taught us. it's more important than any specific deal and anything that we bring jobs into america and that we provide a transition
10:18 am
with mental health and american education curriculum that larry worked on and has a curriculum he worked on. we have montessori curriculums we worked on. the waldorf has a curriculum. med meditation. that puts us back into the trap door called the 13th amendment. i did say abolish. why would you will keep a trap door? the constitution is the base of our industry. of our company or country. would you build a trap door that if something happens, you fall and you end up next to the unibombers, you have to remove that out of the relationship. the four gentlemen that broke the 13th amendment and the way the universe works is perfect. we don't have 13 floors, do we?
10:19 am
the four gentlemen that broke it department look like the people they were amending. it was illegal for blacks to read or african-americans to read. so that meant if you read the amendment, you would get locked up. again, so what i think is we don't need sentences, we need partners. we need to talk to people. i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and connected with a neuropsychologist that works with the athletes and the nba and the nfl. he looked at my brain. i will go ahead and drop bombs for us. 98% i'll iq test. 75% i'll of all human beings. eight numbers backwards. i'm going to work on that one. the other one, 98%. tesla and freud. he said that i actually wasn't bipolar. i had sleep deprivation that can
10:20 am
cause dementia 10 to 20 years from now where i wouldn't remember my son's name. all this power i got and i'm taking my son to the sox game and all of that, i wouldn't be able to remember his name from the misdiagnosis. we can empower the pharmaceuticals and make more money. that's one thing. i never stepped into a situation where i didn't make people more money. we can empower pharmaceuticals and our factories and bring not only adidas onshore, but bring fox conto set up a factory. >> wisconsin. >> yeah, wisconsin. people making $53,000 a year. one of the things we have to set is for ford to have the highest design. the dopest cars. i don't really say dope. we just say positive, lovely, divine, universal words. the fliest, freshest, most
10:21 am
amazing car. we want to start with this. i brought a gift with me right here. this right here is the i plane one. it's a hydrogen powered airplane and this is what our president should be flying in. look at this. >> get rid of air force one. you don't like that? >> we will have apple, the american company work on this plane. you know what i don't like about it? it's not what i don't like. what i need "saturday night live" or the liberals to improve on is if he don't look good, we don't look good. this is our president. he has to be the freshest and the fliest and the fliest planes and the best factories and have to make our core be empower eede have to bring jobs. our best export is entertainment
10:22 am
inside. we are cheating on our country. we are putting people in positions to have to do illegal things to end up in the cheapest factory ever, the prison system. >> that was pretty impressive. i hate to say this, jim. you want to say something? what do do you after that? >> pretty extraordinary meeting in the oval office at the white house. the president of the united states with kanye west. i want to get analysis from the white house. cnn political analyst, april ryan and gloria borger. you are there. what did you think? >> reporter: you and i have covered this place. when i started, you were here. this is something that is very different. the cameras were there. i don't remember hearing this kind of monologue, if you will, of someone meeting with the president. this is someone that the president wants to hear from.
10:23 am
kanye west did acknowledge in this conversation that he had or this monologue, that he has some issues, mental health issues, but he also said he looks to the period as a father. he talked about chicago and crime rate there and talked about the 13th amendment and slaves not being able to read and he was all over the place. what i do get from this is that the president brought him along with jim brown and kid rock in to learn. wolf, i'm going to give you a little something. we will talk to someone who is familiar with the kardashians text messaging with ray jay. he was close with kim kardashian. he said i think it's a great opportunity for young black entrepreneurs and artists to talk one on one with the president of the united states of america, but in watching the
10:24 am
tape that ray jay was watching from cnn, he said he is a little concerned. there is a concern right now. what i heard did not sound like someone coming clearly to talk to the president about issues that are in the black community. particularly on matters of prison reform that jared kushner is pushing the president on. >> you can tell the president was pretty uncomfortable with this monologue. i agree with april. there was some kind of father thing going on. he said this guy made me feel like super man. my parents were separate and i was surrounded by a lot of women. he sort of sees trump as a father figure. he was willing to say that. the reason donald trump had him there is that he holds up kanye west as an example of his appeal
10:25 am
to black americans. that's what he wanted today. i'm not so sure he got that, but he does use it that way and sees kanye and has said kanye's support increased his popularity. we haven't seen that in our own polling among after can americans. he claims it's 25%. we haven't seen that. for the president, he wanted to use this as a way to bolster his support. he also is for prison reform, unlike his own attorney general. that's why jared and ivanka were there. they are very strong on that. i don't think he expected this kind of a performance, wolf. i really don't. >> april, have you seen a 25% increase in support for president trump among african-americans as the president claimed earlier? >> i haven't seen it and i'm hearing the exact opposite. particularly after the kavanaugh confirmations. people are talking about going
10:26 am
to the polls. you hear those who say they support president trump, but i'm hearing more overwhelmingly and seeing through stats that african americans are definitely trying to take part of a blue tsunami. when it comes to issues of kanye west bringing black people to president trump, that's a misnomer. kanye west made the large portion of the african-american community upset about comments about race and slavery. at this point kanye west is exposing himself more and more in the highest office in the land. this is not just a moment on tmz or a moment on e with being the kardashians or whatever that show is. this is the world seeing kanye west in the raw. >> this is a reality tv show we were watching. >> it's sad. >> there were no planned remarks. i'm assuming that from kanye west. so the president was sitting
10:27 am
there and his family was sitting there and the press pool was completely stunned, i believe, by kanye's 10-minute monologue. don't forget, this is the same person who said that george w. bush hates black people after hurricane katrina. >> yes, he did. >> it's interesting that he had a shift towards republicans. i think the president seemed stunned, but it is reality tv. it is unrehearsed and we just watched it as it unrolled. there are some people in the white house who would like to rerack that. >> we are less than four weeks away from the mid-terms and you wanted to make a final point, april? >> we all worked here before. we got upset when kellyanne conway put her feet in the sofa with the president who is came to the oval office. i remember instances where people were not wearing jackets in the oval office. this is taking it to another
10:28 am
level. the curse words. he wasn't cursing at someone, but to use the words and there is a sense of decor um and there is a sense of respect taking it to another low. >> april and gloria, we will have more on this and we are standing by to go live to what fema is calling ground zero. live pictures from mexico beach, florida. the beach town is completely decimated by the storm. brooke baldwin is there. what she is seeing and hearing, right after this. hi, my name is sam davis and i'm going to tell you about exciting plans available to anyone with medicare. many plans provide broad coverage and still may save you money on monthly premiums and prescription drugs.

we want to get back to our coverage of hurricane michael's devastation, specifically in mexico beach, florida or what fema calls ground zero. our brooke baldwin was able to get to the city by helicopter and some of the footage her crew took along the way. it's amazing how this devastation has unfolded flying over mexico beach which had been obliterated. walk us through what you are seeing now. >> reporter: sure. so let me just say first of all, it's extraordinary that we are able to come to you live. the satellite signal is precarious and i'm not going to
10:34 am
move and we can't move too much. the pictures behind me tell the whole story. what you can't see is line after line after line of military humvees and national guard. we have seen black hawk helicopters circling. miami and new orleans fire and rescue and local florida fire and rescue. the question is death toll. it's still so preliminary. they are only now fire and rescue going door-to-door and clocking. we have been here for a little bit and i was talking to a guy who decided to ride out the storm. he was saying to me he knew of at least one neighbor who rode out the storm as well. when he woke up, her home was gone. we don't know. death toll, we don't know. injuries. i have walked much of this stretch of 98 myself just to be able to see it. i have never seen -- there are
10:35 am
parts of panama city beach that are absolutely levelled. when i tell you that all of mexico beach is levelled, that's the truth. there are some condo buildings that kept their structure, but then the back side is gone or the roof is gone. but for the most part, especially the closer to the water you get and we walked all the way towards the water -- i talked to one gentleman who said he is counting homes by toilets and refrigerators blown into other people's yards. we saw a home that was carried by this tremendous storm surge and the wind. it was clocked at 155 miles an hour. it took a home. i saw the aftermath with my own eyes. it carried it a football field and a half down from the water and flipped it upside down. just to give you a feel of how strong and fierce this storm is,
10:36 am
wolf, and the fact that hearing that this would be ground zero, seeing it with my own eyes, it certainly feels that way, wolf. >> it is so, so heart breaking to see that devastation, brooke. thank you so much for that report. brooke is going to have a lot more coming up right at the top of the hourme. to our viewer who is would like to help those affected by hurricane michael, go to cnn.com/impact. more news coming up. when they go low, we kick them. that's the former attorney general eric holder's message to democrats. president trump responding, saying the former attorney general better be careful. plus, how that missing saudi journalist shined a light on the relationship with the saudis and his business ties to the kingdom. this is not a bed.

president, lawmakers and the turkish saudi kingdom weighing in on the disappearance of a well-known saudi journalist. he was last seen on october 2nd as he entered the saudi consulate in turkey. turkish officials believe he was killed inside the consulate,an allegation denied by saudi arabia. u.s. intelligence intercepts showed the plan to lure him back to saudi arabia from the united states and then detain him. the situation is further exacerbated by the diplomatic
10:42 am
vacancies in the region. lawmakers triggered an investigation on wednesday that could pave the way potentially for sanctions against saudi arabia that could make for a potential confrontation with republicans. listen to senator lindsey graham. he didn't mince his words. >> there will be a bipartisan tsunami building against saudi arabia if they did in fact do this. this being the demise of a journalist dissident that they would suffer a lot in the eyes of the american people and the congress. >> but the president said no matter what, the united states is not going to stop selling weapons to saudi arabia. listen. >> i will tell you up front right now and i will say it in front of senators. they are spending $110 billion purchasing military equipment and other things. if we don't sell it to them, they will say we will buy from russia or thank you very much,
10:43 am
we will buy it from china. that doesn't help us when it comes to jobs or our companies losing out on that work. there are other things we can do. let's find out what the problem is first, okay? >> let's go to our senior international correspondent who is joining us from istanbul. what the president said, investigators were in turkey on the case. how did turkey respond? >> reporter: it's all quite strange, wolf. a turkish political source, diplomatic source said there were no u.s. investigators assigned to the investigation. we did also hear from turkey's part from the presidential spokesman. turkey and saudi arabia agreed to start a joint working group to try to get to the bottom of all of this. of course this comes after turkey had initially requested permission to enter the consulate and consul general's
10:44 am
home and was granted by saudi arabia and they asked to postpone it. we heard harsh rhetoric from the turkish side saying we want to cooperate, but we need them to cooperate with us. is this joint working group a move towards cooperation? yes, but it raises a lot of questions as to what they may be capable of uncovering given how politically charged this is and how much mystery surrounds all of it. we pieced together what may have happened that day. we know from turkish authorities and various sources that there are 15 saudi nationals who are persons of interest who arrived in country the day he went missing and landing in a private jet and staying at a hotel and arriving at the consulate before he himself went inside. about an hour and a half, two hours later, a convoy of official vehicles departed the consula consulate, moving a short distance away from the general's
10:45 am
house. there was a black van that is seen in closed circuit tv cameras that show the van disappearing out of sight. since this all happened, there are 15 individuals that did depart the country. it would seem on two different private jets. that's all we have been able to piece together at this stage. there is only one fact that stands out in all of this. at 1:15, 1:14 on tuesday afternoon, he went in the consulate and has not been seen or heard from since. >> what are a story. that is awful, awful. thank you very much. there is more surreal video coming in from inside the oval office. kanye west talking about everything from hillary clinton and kim kardashian to prison reform. plus, we will take you back to the devastated towns in florida where hurricane michael left a catastrophic scene behind. a j. dependability award for its midsize car-the chevy malibu.
10:46 am
i forgot. chevy also won a j.d. power dependability award for its light-duty truck the chevy silverado. oh, and since the chevy equinox and traverse also won chevy is the only brand to earn the j.d. power dependability award across cars, trucks and suvs-three years in a row. phew. third time's the charm...

this was just set up to be a lunch of two people that i like, and i guess they like me. we're going to have lunch, we're going to talk. >> reporter: you said i love you. >> i know. i don't want to put you in that spot. >> i'm standing in that spot. let me give this guy a hug right here. i love this guy right here. >> kanye west in the oval office. let's discuss this and more.
10:51 am
joining us, california congresswoman jack congresswoman. let me get your reaction. what did you this? >> it was a combination of stream of consciousness. i felt like i was sitting in on a psychiatric visit and an ad for donald trump. it wasn't newsworthy. i suggest the president should curtail these kind of engagements. meanwhile we have $10 billion to $13 billion of damage to various places in the panhandle of florida, and the president is being entertained by kanye west and other celebrities. it's the wrong picture. >> how is it going to play in the midterm elections less than four weeks away? >> i think it speaks to his lack of leadership, lack of empathy,
10:52 am
his lack of recognition of what the priorities should be in this country. it was on full display here this morning with his meeting with kanye west. >> let me turn to the russia investigation. i know you've been working on this as a member of the intelligent committee for a long time. the president said he heard from richard burr, the president of the senate intelligence committee that, there was no collusion. now senator burr says there's still a lot of investigation left. he didn't say what the president had flatly said. what do you think of that? >> what i think of it is the word "collusion" is misused. the question should be was there a conspiracy to join with the russians, to join with the saudis to influence the election on behalf of then candidate donald trump. and i've got to say that my review of the information suggests that there is a lot of
10:53 am
reasons why donald trump was engaged with russia and why he's engaged with saudi arabia. i think it's all about following the money. >> let me get your thoughts on another very, very disturbing story that has developed over the past few days. some of your colleague, including republicans and democrats in the house and the senate, they're demanding not only a full-scale investigation into the disappearance of the saudi journalist jamal khashoggi, the president said no matter what the conclusion, is the u.s. must continue to sell weapons, arms, to saudi arabia because so many american jobs are at stake, $100 billion plus in contracts. what's your reaction to what the president said? >> i think the president is tone deaf. this is an international incident of proportions that
10:54 am
should be making the president think long and hard about engagement with saudi arabia. this is bone chilling, and i really feel very strongly that the actions being taken by the senate and members within the house to call for a fulsome investigation are very important. there was a murder, it appears, in the saudi arabia embassy in turkey and we're silent. that's not the america i know or believe in. >> if it's proven that the saudis did execute this journalist, a resident of the united states, a permanent resident of the united states, a columnist for "the washington post," what would you recommend the u.s. do? >> i think there have to be severe sanctions imposed against saudi arabia. they are buying lots of military weapons and equipment from the united states, have been for quite some time, but we also ironically waved the research and development costs of some $8
