morning hours shot down a drone that seems to be a derivative of the rq4 global hawk. that's a high altitude surveillance drone. the u.s. is saying this drone was shot down in international air space somewhere in the strait of hormuz. the iranians say it had violated iranian air space and shot down somewhere south of the strait of hormuz. the iranians coming out with a pretty angry statement after the incident took place. the drone was shot down by iran's elite revolutionary guard corps. the head came out and said unequivocally that the shooting down of the drone is a clear message to the united states that the iranians will not violate its air space or its air space getting violated by anyone that they say their air space is, quote, a red line. all of this comes as tensions between the iranians and u.s. are continuing to simmer that

took place with the u.s. blaming iran for that incident. the iranians say unequivocally it wasn't them. right now they're continuing to say, like the u.s. is saying, they don't want this to escalate any further. they don't want this to turn into some shooting war. the head of the revolutionary guard said if it does come to that, the iranians are prepared. authorities in the dominican republic said the recent shooting of david ortiz was a case of mistaken identity. the prosecutor said sixto fernandez who was seated at his table and wearing similar clothes was the intended target. the suspected gunman was only sent a photo. they say he's a cousin of fernandez that was looking to settle a score from 2011. ortiz is recovering in a boston hospital. his condition was upgraded to good on tuesday. let's get a check on cnn

leader kim jong-un. it's the first trip by a chinese president to north korea in more than a decade. it comes as both leaders are locked in stalled disputes with the united states. paula hancocks is live for us in seoul. could this meeting be intended to help each other gain leverage with president trump? >> reporter: well, dave, this meeting has been a long-time in the making. it really does feel overdue to many people. it was 15 months ago that kim jong-un first went to china and said to xi jinping, please come to pyongyang. he said yes at that point. certainly the timing is interesting. the fact that he's left it until a week before he goes to the g20 in japan and is expected to meet with u.s. president donald trump. china has been at pains to say that the trade dispute with the u.s. is very different to the north korean issue and they are dealing with them as separate issues, but clearly it's not going to harm xi jinping to be seen in pyongyang right now, just a week before meeting with

president trump showing that he is pivotal to the north korean issue, that he is critical to some kind of resolution on the peninsula. then from kim jong-un's issue, he is in stalled discussions on denuclearization. it doesn't hurt him to show that he has a very powerful friend in xi jinping. we know there will be plenty of pomp and circumstance. they have already met as well and spoken to each other. there was a very dramatic welcome at the airport. about 10,000 people, according to "people's daily" saying there was a 21-gun salute, military band, flags and flowers and they got into an open top car and drove through the streets of pyongyang. the streets thronged and chanding and cheering. we are looking forward to seeing that. >> paula hancocks, thank you.
