4:03 pm
state officials and judges and a fundamental lack of ballot integrity and ballot security. >> well, that's what matters. is that sentiment. that is the whole thing. that's why this is happening now. i think it is really important to point out that stefanik's turn towards trump on the big lie once changed where she once was. when trump attacked the gold star family, stefanik released a statement reading in part "i think there is no excuse in attacking gold star families." >> his statements regarding putin and nato and some of the positions in regards to iraq that he made and the oil fields, i opposed those. >> after the infamous hollywood tape. stefanik released a statement

4:06 pm
they stand for and i thought they would be at this point. >> reporter: that last part seems to be a reference to oppose trump in washington and what it is going to look like. he does not think republicans have not figured it out. president biden does think it is important to have this two-party system and important to have a healthy debate between the two parties happening here in washington. the debate that's happening now is not over these trillions of dollars of spending. he wants to reshape the american economy and the role of the government and this is what we are talking about what's happening within gop leadership and on that we should note that one week from today that president biden has invited congressional leadership to come here at the white house and be with him. that's not just chum schumer and na nancy pelosi, that could be mitch mcconnell and mccarthy as well. >> thank you very much. kaitlan, i want to go to the

focused on vaccine rates and infrastructure. in terms of liz cheney, she's a conservative, she did a vote of conscious and she could not be ousted because of one vote of conscious. it sounds like she's recognizing she's going to be replaced. this is perceived by the american body politics as an ouster because of one vote. dw i don't think it is healthy for our party. we got to got back to talking about the idea and how to unify ourselves. we got to come together for

2022. this debate right now is not healthy. >> president biden referring it as many revolutions. it is fair to say it is a reality that's why she's being kicked out. she comes out and says it is a lie and he says no, you are the lie. when we look at her voting record, governor, she over her lifetime 80% of the conservative ranking group under conservative issues, she's being replaced by congresswoman stefanik with 48%. that's an f. do you understand what's happening in your party? >> well, yes, there is a disagreement on leadership and it is not a pretty look for our party. when ever you got people like myself that has pointed to january 6th and the president's role in that is not the right
4:10 pm
role of a leader of our country but i don't want to hit that everyday. i think it is important that we leave this to our prosecutors. they are prosecuting hundreds of people because of what happened there. the president got his own legal issues. we got to move beyond as a party and we are not doing it quickly. and liz cheney battled fo for -- she won reelection so she maintained her post and something has happened since then and the division has continued. it is a bad look for our party. >> it is something that happens since then and you don't want to talk about it but you are. it is becoming the litmus test whether she can be a leadership or not. governor, when you sit there and think about it, do you feel you are out of step with the core of
4:11 pm
the gop. >> and that's my point is it should not be a litmus test. there is thousands of republicans that have a different view than i do. we are part of the same team and if we are going to win in 2022, we got to come together, it should not be a litmus test either way. liz cheney should not be ousted because of a vote of conscious. at the same time, we should not ostricize those on the other side that are sympathetic to donald trump. we can have a disagreement. those are serious issues because it goes to the heart of our democracy. we have to move beyond that and we got to do it more quickly. >> i understand that. when you say that and i know you are trying to make the big ten argument. liz chaieney pointed today that
4:12 pm
has -- are you comfortable with those who are on board with those things? >> first of all, if you are wanting to win a leadership post, you don't write an opt-ed like that. that's sticking the camera with a needle in the eye. that's an example of where you're defining our party based on your view of that. i don't think we need to do that. there is honest areas of disagreements. i have been strong about that. there were others that have a different view and we are not going to make that the litmus test. it is important to me and our constitution but i don't think we have to relitigate that. let it be handled in the court or the view of the public opinion. we'll be asked about that.
4:13 pm
i get asked about it on this show and i will state my opinion but that's not my driving force everyday. our driving force should be what president biden is doing on the border, infrastructure plan and how we can come together on that. that's what governors are working on and my message is simply let's get back to that. >> so the president as you know has been banned temporarily from social media. he's putting statements out there. it does not have the same sound as it did when he was on those sites. today facebook's advisory board upheld the decision to ban trump on the insurrection, no end date on it. they upheld it. do you think that was the right move or not? >> no, i don't think it is the right move. it is something fundamentally
4:14 pm
unfair of a former president being banned from social media posts. i don't like corporate america being the guardian of what's right and wrong to post there. i know they have to make judgments about terrorists and criminal activities, they have to make those judgments. this does not seem right to me. i don't believe it seems right to the american public. so i would be on the bad end of some of his tweets if he's put back on there. >> certainly. >> i think they made a mistake by denying him that access. >> mitch mcconnell was asked about cheney today and he had defended her in the past. he dodged the question. here is what he said, governor. >> the center of my focus is standing up on this administration.
4:15 pm
>> you want to focus on the policy but from the perspective of the minority leader in the senate, we were talking about leadership and liz cheney and in her role of leadership. should he have defended her? should you have? >> i thought his comments were right on. he's the senate leader, you try to stay out of house leadership and disputes. that's what this is. it is a republican caucus choosing who they want to represent themselves. i applaud him. that's the message. let's pivot from some of internal squabbles and disputes that we have and focus on president biden and our disgrdis disagreements on policies.
4:16 pm
there is an important issues f faced in our country. i applaud him for recognizing that. we don't need to get into that debate. i am here today because i believe this is important for our party and not to ostricize somebody because of one vote. i think it is going to be poorly rec received. we got to move beyond together and hopefully we can do it. >> thank you very much, i appreciate your time governor. >> thank you, erin. good to be with you. i want to go to our special con correspondent who's been breaking so much on this story. you heard him loud and clear. what does it mean for the gop. >> he kept on talking about this is one vote that she's being
4:17 pm
ostricizeed for. that's not what this is about. the litmus test here is about telling the truth. the litmus test is about democracy. i think what we have seen and what we are going to see next week when it looks like liz cheney will be removed is that donald trump is back. maybe he never went away. but, this is not kevin mccarthy doing this. he carried out the orders because donald trump wanted him to do this. i will say this. the op-ed today made very clear that liz cheney is not going away. this is just the opening. >> she's clearly and not doing so quietly. you have covered her for a long time. in that op-ed, she mentioned the
4:18 pm
justice department in jvestigatn and the january 6th insurrection. she made a specific point. why do you think she felt the need to do that? >> i think there are thwo thing here. the governor talked about criminal activities and facebook. it is clear that there was criminal activity on january 6th and as she says in her op-ed that there are courts that believe that donald trump is continuing to provoke criminal activity by perpetuating the big lie. kevin mccarthy does not want a january 6th commission and he does not want a justice department of investigation because he is likely to be called as a witness. he was talking to donald trump for weeks after the election.
4:19 pm
he had that famous phone call with him on january 6th. there is great concern from kevin mccarthy and other members of congress that they're going to have to testify under oath about conversations with donald trump that they don't want to testify to that will speak to trump's mindset and whether or not he had some responsibilities for january 6th. >> it is amazing why they don't want to say the truth of that. and that in of itself is the most significant implications of what you reported. >> thank you very much, appreciate it. the variant detected in india circulated in the united states as experts worn another covid surge is possible in this country. the surgeon general is next. a hotbed of conspiracy theory o f the covid vaccine.
