grandma in her head he wrote to a girl online. it was the start of a shooting spree that would leave 19 students 25and 2 teachers dead. seconds later wrote i'm going to go shoot up an elementary school right now and took off in his 66-year-old grandmother truck and crashed into a ditch and two minutes later a 911 call reported the wreck and gunman walking towards robb elementary school with a long rifle, his weapons purchased legally may 17th at a supported good store, the next day 375 rounds of ammunition and may 20th another rifle from the same store. it was those guns he had with him on tuesday. >> he jumped out of the passenger side of the truck,

classrooms authorities say the gunman barricaded himself and killed the students and the teachers. and wounded 17 people. one of the victims 10-year-old amerie jo garza tried to call police on her cellphone, a birthday present two weeks ago. >> i got confirmation from two of the students in her classroom that she was just trying to call authorities. and i guess he just shot her. >> as the gunman sporadically shot through the wall police wait for reinforcement evacuate other students. >> fsers were there the initial officers don't make entry initially because of the gunfire they're receiving. >> parents outside the school are distraught demanding police immediately storm the building or let them. >> i told one of the officers if they didn't want to the go in let me borrow a gun and vest and

iceland's glaciers are melting faster now than any point in the past 200 years because of global warming, tracking that loss could give a glimpse of the future in a changing climate. in call to earth we look at some of the glaciers. >> reporter: these are some of the glaciers of southern iceland only 10% of the land mass is covered by ice but since 2000 it's estimated the glaciers have decrease in size by 800 square kilometers. some are retreating by over 150 meters in a single year.

the director at the university of iceland has witnessed the retreat up close. >> about 14 years ago i started to do repeat photography at one of the glaciers here. and i went once a month for eight years. it's like visiting an old friend. there's a sense of familiarity. we have about 20 outlet glaciers that come down from the ice cap. all of them have receded. >> he is part of a team documenting the glacier retreat over laying archive photos with current-day drone footage reveals the dramatic change in the landscape. rising global temperatures driven by rampant fossil fuel consumption left some experts warning the glacials in iceland are at risk of disappearing

entirely. >> we need to tell people what the reality is. on the other hand we don't want to frighten people to immobilize them to anxiety. >> melting ice is the biggest contributor to sea level rise but as most of the world is worried about flooding here the climate change problem is causing the opposite problem. >> as the glacier melts and pressure becomes less and less. >> as they lose their weight land mass rises out of the water in a process known as iso static rebound. >> so every three or four years the land lifts up by an inch. closer to the glacier these effects become enhanced so. up by the glacier margin looking at inch and half per year. there have been very noticeable changes here in this area. and one of them is all of the small islands that you can see

in the distance these are only visible during low tide but as the land is lifted up these become more and more noticeable. nature here is very much alive. it's always generating new things. it's always destroying other things. but climate change speeds everything up. >> he and the team's next project is to use time-lapsed photography to look into the future. >> we want to pre-visualize what our fastest receding glacial -- will look like 100 year from now. based on worst case, business as usual and best case. there is always a range of potential future that's is open to us. there is still a chance for the wounds to heal and for the glaciers to recover at least to some extent. we have to make a conscious,
