>> the midterms are 11 days away. conspiracy theories, misinformation and lies are flourishing. on the same day as the attack on nancy pelosi's husband, the alleged attacker, as you know, he was shouting where is nancy. federal officials are warning that domestic violence extremists are growing for the midterm elections and beyond. we have harold lewis with us. also, charis swisher, the host of on with charis swisher in pivot broadcasts. great to see all of you. john, i know you have some great reporting on what happened with this attack, how it went down. how did the attacker get into the pelosi home? do we know that yet? >> entered through the rear
8:02 pm
yard where they have the large french doors. they are still reviewing the videotapes, there is an assumption that the hammer was mostly used as an entry to appear >> he came in with a hammer? >> yeah. again, they are going back over the videotapes, but i have asked a few times was the hammer in the house or something that got picked up a short do we believe he brought the hammer? they believe he brought the hammer. the part of this that is in the movie version is how please get some in. >> agreed. as i understand it, i think this is from your reporting, he dialed 911 and did not talk to the left an open call. >> i learned a little more like that. he actually engages in a conversation with the operator which is very stilted. there is this person in the house. so on and so forth. the operator is trying to glean this about where we going here. at one point, heather grimes,
8:03 pm
the 911 dispatcher says sir, are you okay? and he says no. i am not. the training these operators have come a lot of this comes from domestic violence where the offender is there and somebody is calling and they are trying to get the message across that i really need somebody. so, she takes that call, makes it a category letter a with a code 3 response but puts it on the mdt so the cops are reading exactly what was said. it does not make a lot of sense, but they are getting a sense that something is not right here. this is the residence of nancy pelosi. they come through the door there are these two men holding the hammer. they're basically saying, okay, to both of them, put down the hammer. mr. pelosi lets go of the hammer . the other guy strikes him immediately, the suspect. they crossed the room and tackle the suspect. the rest is history. that phone call, he was very
8:04 pm
cool in managed to get the message across to save his own life. the 911 operator was very intuitive to figure out this is worse than it sounds. >> the police chief credited her today in the press conference saying that he felt that her actions were lifesaving. that she was so intuitive about all of that. i know you have been to that home but i know that you know the pelosi family. this is shocking. >> it is shocking. paul is a cool customer, he really is. he is a lovely guy. he is a big man. he is a very fit. i can see him being very calm in a situation like that. the house, it is in an area of san francisco that is quite protected near the presidio. it is pretty surprising that it is a quiet area. it is a wealthy area. i could only imagine to get around back, there is a lot of woods back there for the presidio. >> this is shocking on every level. although, that said, maybe we should not be shocked since we
8:05 pm
are 11 days away from the midterms. things could not be hotter and more overheated. there is so much vile political rhetoric that we have seen leading to political violence. >> that is right. we have a system that allows for and encourages their algorithm this kind of hatred to feed on itself. it ends up everywhere. it is no surprise, sadly, to find out that this person has been posting conspiracy rants and all kinds of stuff for 15 years. for facebook to finally pull down the page today? literally too late. we are in commercial media right now. if someone comes on, whether it is your podcast or my show, or your show, you give them a little bit of room. you either shut them down or you go to a commercial. you do not let this stuff just fester and spread. it is an important question that facebook has never answered. they really have to be held accountable. >> how about that? >> it takes one person to jump
8:06 pm
off the page. this is it. the constant rhetoric of hate that keeps escalating. it has been encouraged by leaders by not saying anything. the political leaders have not set up the way they should by condemning things. we saw what glenn young did. the virginia governor. >> he had two seconds and reverted to political rhetoric. >> it was heinous but i don't know how else to say it but it was appalling to do that in the moment. it only takes one moment to go down these highways of amplification and weaponization of all of this information and then move into the real world. you do not need more than one. you saw it january 6th. these cries, where is nancy, it was during the resurrection. >> verbatim. >> we have seen what we believe to be the suspects social media. mike lindell, the famous trump ally. the pillow salesman spouting nonsense about the election. he has january 6th. all of the usable suspect that all of the usual suspects. so, can facebook shut something like that down? he was not making direct
8:07 pm
threats. >> i would not blame facebook. i think you can say it should not be up there. right? it is allowed to fester. i think what happens is some people actively believe this. it is propaganda. we should stop using anything about propaganda as what is happening here. it is effective. history has showed us that propaganda can lead to deadly results. >> that is what it is, john, as you well know. would leaders speaking out in your experience of dealing with crime for all of these decades, without help shut it down? >> it is an interesting question because the question is the audience waiting for q's? one lesson we learned is we saw donald trump tweets out on january 6th okay, pack up and go home. we saw the films of everybody looking at their social media they said he says to go home. they all went home. we know they are waiting for q's. the question is how many people have the moral authority within the genre people to think this
8:08 pm
way to give those cues. he noticed the nypd put out an intelligence bulletin the day before. actually, it was yesterday. it came out publicly. it went out last week to police agencies saying expect violence, expect trouble and be on guard for it. here is why. they pointed to a lot of things. but, the 261 page hard reset document that went down on the site terror graham which is a right wing extremist chat room that said attack political meetings protect political leaders. attack law enforcement. it was on multiple levels including violence, shootings, so on. so, facebook is nothing that i mean, there are places out there where they are getting cues. >> i told him this is something that has to be done. pretending that it will go away or we will wait until there is an over act, that does not
8:09 pm
work. if we know where this is heading and we have seen it happen over and over and over again with a lot of different context, it is up to the leadership to try and figure it out to say it. to take away the key was. one thing that would certainly work, it would've worked a little bit of january 6th. if they knew that they would be met with it across the board with everyone from the left to the right. everybody in between, every commercial broadcaster would say this is beyond the pale. this is disgusting. we are all united in we are saying this has no place for the study of a city governor who turns it into a joke. right? well, we are going to send her back home. the wrong signal at the wrong time. >> beyond donald trump who we know will not intervene to try and tap it down. who else would be effective in stepping up and saying something? >> to me it is everyone. if you look across the board, who came out with statements today? were they grudging, were they printed? >> some of them were tweeted. does that work?
8:10 pm
is that good enough? >> that is not how it works. you line up on the steps of the capital. you alternately republican, democrat, republican, democrat. people who have opposed each other, everybody does it. you say it clearly and you say it forcefully and you say it meaningfully. we do not support violence. it has no place. we will unite around us and we will take any steps necessary to prevent this from continuing. >> is that the answer? >> no. i'm sorry. it is way too far. online is an information desert for so many people. they are being flooded with that information. people that do not use any of the mainstream media have found a place. you can see it happening at the very early days of the internet as they finally found people that agreed with them. they started to join and trade things. when you live in these information bubbles it is very dangerous. you do not get other points of view. i think all of us have relatives that i moved into that information bubble. it is very hard to get them out
8:11 pm
of it. you are constantly being reinforced that this is the news. and some sick, twisted way, they think they are doing something good. they must act. it happened at the capital and it happened here. >> are police ready for the midterms? >> certainly in new york, they are. talked about the planning yesterday with over 1000 election sites. but, there are places i do not have this kind of resources. you know, that is going to be a challenge but i think the intel is out there. i think the nypd message yesterday that went out the week before, i also think that the federal government dhs, fbi messages that are going out today going to underline that. as we learn from january 6th, that is something, the big picture threat needs to be in the hands of law enforcement so that chiefs and sheriff's across the country know what

>> $44 billion later, elon musk now owns twitter. he announced today he will form a content moderation counsel with diverse viewpoints and no major content or reinstatement decisions will happen before that counsel convenes. carol lewis and carol swisher are with us. we also had carry champion in joining us. great to have all of you. while, in the 24 hours since elon musk has owned twitter,
8:17 pm
racist tweets have proliferated. here are some revolting examples to read for you. you are now controls twitter, unleash the racial slurs, k words, letter and word. next i can freely express how much i hate them now. thank you, elon. >> there have been some changes around here. it was like more than 400 times. one tweet showing a bad word in capital letters was like more than 7000 times. what is that about? >> they like him. >> they think, well, he said the word is free. right? one second later they said we are having a content moderator think that advertisers are leaving. the bird is that free? it turns into this. nobody wants to be that as a business. so, it is a very difficult walk
8:18 pm
he is going to have to walk your. >> one major advertiser, gm said we are going to take a wait-and-see approach. there will be others. there has even been talk. saw it on twitter about a mass resignation campaign that people are considering walking away from the platform. if it will be that kind of a sewer no responsible person. frankly, it was mostly newspeople, politicians and so forth they were using that platform instead of the other was there but nobody will put any quality content and that they were. if they want to run a sewer, good luck to him. >> i am glad you're pointing that out. i want to point out whatever personal responsibility here in a minute. you were on last night telling us that it is already a cesspool at times for you when you turn the certain contact or certain people, it is already happening. >> i said here last night that if i go decide that i want to support brittney griner, or anyone that is in a marginalized community, the responses are
8:19 pm
vile. it depends on where we are at. it was interesting, last night after i said that i also got these responses. you are such a liar, no one uses those types of words. here we are less than 24 hours later, and exactly. exactly what i said what happened has happened. here is the thing. twitter can be a good lace. it is a good place to aggregate news. it is a good place to laugh and discover voices. i am not kidding, it is how you use it, but it is very irresponsible in a sense that we allow him to address what free speech is. i knew that would happen but i knew people would come out of the woodwork, they are waiting for that. the sad part is we are going to have to decide how we want to give our intelligence, our information on social media. i told you, i was a fan of yours but i watch you, i listen, and pay attention. i say this is great. this is what twitter is really for. unfortunately we live in a time that is polarizing. everyone feels entitled to an opinion whether it is thought or someone that is actually
8:20 pm
miserable and does not want to hear about brittney griner or the election or who you think you should support there are people out there who are determined to let us know that we are not welcome. when i say we, i mean marginalized. it is so targeted. i do not have the time to go on twitter and block everybody. and when i don't have the energy. >> the problem that he has is a business problem. that is what the heart of it is that he will owe a big debt . he has paid about three times what it is actually worth. the big companies mehta and google had a terrible quarter. they are good at making money at this stuff. the question is if he does not make it into a good business it does not matter how rich he is. ultimately it will fail as a business. then, it is what it is. he can keep it going if he feels like it or he can lose billions of dollars. >> the easiest way to clean it up and make some money at it is
8:21 pm
to do what they do for the blue check members. make sure that everyone has a name and an address and that the anonymous hate that people can do by proliferating all kinds of -- you know, the automated process. there are swarms of fake accounts. >> i think the issue is, tiktok is eating everybody's lunch. it doesn't really matter. people are over there because they enjoy. there are problems on tiktok, but the issue is can you come up with ideas? if he is going to do a subscription, do i really want to have people yell at me while i pay up subscription. it is like going to a restaurant and having someone vomit on your shoes. can he bring the enjoyable parts out? >> canty clean up the garbage now? why can't we clean up the garbage. >> it is impossible . >> it is impossible to try to referee that. it is actually bigger than what he can actually control. >> it is extremely difficult to navigate through that. >> if that is true, the content whatever he is assigning for
8:22 pm
the content decision-makers. is that going to work? >> input facebook two years to put together the thing. it is the oversight board. you have to do it with great thoughtfulness, and even then it does not work. i mean, it is fine, but this is a tsunami of hatred. >> meta created the bulletin , remember the bulletins to combat what people were saying that was what they called hate speech. they asked me to start writing to i guess mediate what they already had on there which was hate speech. they went to a group of marginalized writers from different communities to get different voices on meta. it did not work. they had to stop and did not work. >> that goes to the question i alluded to earlier. what is our personal responsibility? if there is all of this garbage and vulgar, vile stuff, at what point do those of us who use twitter need to say no more. we are not going to do this anymore. we are going to leave the
8:23 pm
savior >> a lot of people are saying that right now. >> after this last event in the last 24 hours. i need to myself i but i put anything in the middle of this garbage? they do not take it seriously they do not have a serious approach. if there is going to be a wink and a smile and a bogus talk about free speech as a cover for all of this year there will be more of these forms of anonymous bots that are attacking democracy itself. i don't want to be a part of that. >> how long are you going to get it? >> i will take a wait-and-see approach. >> here is the irony of all of the people that could do something interesting with this, it is elon musk. he is a big user. he used it for marketing. he enjoys it, but when he is funny, he is funny. but, he is not sometimes. that is the way he has. he should be able to do what he wants. he has not necessarily crossed lines. >> tasteless. >> i don't know. it is not a disrespectful
8:24 pm
thing, but i think he is someone who is trying to poke the bear, whatever. is. he just wants to be that way. i do not think there are people who create great content and give it away for free on twitter. if someone can actually find a new platform for them to get out great content. i am a genius. when i tweet i don't know if i should give it to twitter. i don't think they deserve it. i am being funny, obviously. but there are people that legitimately feel that way. there was another platform where they can go and get their content without harassment, without feeling like this is an issue. without the feeling is that they are glorifying his product that he doesn't exactly come they will do that. >> tiktok. it is a beautiful pride in that regard. >> are you on tiktok? are you dancing? >> yes. i'm dancing. no. >> i feel my age. >> i get it.
8:25 pm
i don't have the audience to be dancing. >> he just bought the company. perhaps we will see what he does. >> wait and see. >> he spent a lot of money on it. we will see if he is emotionally invested in it. i think you for the great conversation. from one of the highest profile celebrity couples is ending their marriage. we talked about where it went wrong, next. below the enamel surfa ce for whiter teeth in 3 days, guaranteed. a zillion times whiter! crest.

says they have grown apart. in an interview with elle magazine last month she talked about his decision to un- retire as a star quarterback for the tampa bay buccaneers after announcing his retirement last winter. we are back. give us the real scoop is this really about that he just chose football over his family? >> writing for years, gisele bundchen has been very patient. i think she has probably been more subdued than she has wanted to be in terms of her personality. there is a time and when she went on cbsn i said he covers concussions all the time. he has never been on the report list for concussions. she has complained about other people complaining about him and she was overheard to my point being is that she has been exhausted being his wife in terms of this football career. he retired because he promised
8:31 pm
her, for my understanding this was it. when he retired he said your family and me. this is what we are hearing. by the way, people like tom brady, this is not a subjective opinion, he is the greatest in football. he is the goat. people like tom brady are in love with what they do. nothing gives them more pleasure. nothing gives you that adrenaline rush pretty love your family, but you love what you do. remember michael jordan once said i love my wife. this is when he is at the peak of his career. my wife really, truly is basketball. people know that. when you are with these people who have an innate ability unlike any other and they are a generational talent, you have to understand the sacrifices that they make. sometimes they cannot even walk away from that. tom does not think he can retire. he is 45 years old not to mention i am on my high horse right now. >> keep going, girl. >> i enjoy this whole thing. let me tell you something. i casually joked with my friends today. i was saying what do you think
8:32 pm
gisele's group chat is like. he has not had this bad of a start since the beginning of his career. >> you think she is taking a victory lap? >> i told you. you should have stayed at home. >> well, the other thing is there are so many pictures of her on the field after a win. she was so supportive of his football career. we will get to them in a second. but, they are kissing after every one of his super bowl wins. and then at some point enough is enough, i guess. i think she is vocal about it. she said in elle magazine, i have done my part which is to be there for tom to move to boston. i created a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to be there supporting him in his dreams. seeing my children succeed and become the beautiful little humans that they are. seeing him succeed and be filled in his career, it makes
8:33 pm
me happy but at this point in my life i have done a good job at that. >> yeah. by the way, he is not the only one in the relationship that is hardcharging and married to the work. right? this is someone who is been working since she was 13 years old. if you believe any of the celebrity stuff that you can find online, they are worth combined something like three quarters of $1 billion, billion with a b. she has more than he does. >> is that right? >> yeah. this is someone who is been extremely patient. that probably factors into this a little bit. >> i thought that it was interesting what he said on howard stern. he said there were a couple of years ago that she did not feel like i was doing my part for the family. she felt like i would play football all season and she would take care of the house. the season would end and i would be like great, let me get into all of my other business activities they get into my football training. she is sitting there saying when will you do things for the house? when will you take the kids to
8:34 pm
school? that was a big part of our marriage. i had to check myself. i have goals and dreams, too. that was in 2020. two years later he did not fulfill that side of the bargain. >> i take issues with her comment, i had to move to boston. >> that is where i live. it is not that bad. i am so sorry, i get it. it is so fun being here, by the way. being from new england i am team gisele on this one. everyone will hate me back at him because he is so popular. look, he said in the last few weeks, playing for the nfl, he makes more money than god. it is like going to war. something is wrong here. an appropriate exit. you know? you want to leave at a certain time. here we are with people dying in ukraine and our military going to war in crimea. divorce is sad, there are children involved. the pity party is a little bit much. >> to his point, it is his
8:35 pm
identity. he cannot leave it. it is not his career, it is his identity. >> anyone that knows him, remember many times we interview people who play with him or play for him. we would play ping-pong and he has got to win. we are playing cards, i have to win. he is the ultimate competitor. he does not see anything wrong. if he still feels like he is upright he can throw that ball. he wants to play. it is an obsession that i cannot even understand. we cannot get inside of his mind. and for her, she tried. she said, she tried. she talked about how much they are worth but it is mostly her money. we do not need your change, honey. >> your $9 million contract. >> you think about he could've stayed retired, the marriage have not were not imploded so publicly. everyone would've remembered it. everyone remembers your last day. you know? you think about this season for him and what is imploding publicly. >> why is he doing it?
8:36 pm
>> i could easily say it is because of what he is dealing with her that is an easy thing that i think tom is not in a good place in terms of his teammates and who he has in his support system. he needs more help. it is not easy to do what he has been able to do. that is why there are only 16 games in the regular season. it is difficult to go in sunday or monday and win each single time you have the ball. it is the hardest thing to do in football because it is taxing on your body. they implement it where he does not have to. he gets two days off as opposed to one day off because he is older. they are making many changes for this man but i want to understand how obsessed he is. then there was the idea that he was retiring, he got the biggest contract ever in broadcast history. he went to the head of the class. never has he been on television. he is not doing what you do. you deserve $40 million. it was not that much, but she deserves it. tom, i have never even you talk on the camera like that. give this money to allison. >> nevermind that i don't know a single thing about sports.

>> one florida dad posted a lovely photo of his daughters for their homecoming dance on facebook, he did not expect all of the nasty comments that followed. here is his tiktok video that has gone viral in response. >> i put up what i thought was an innocuous post about my daughters and beautiful for homecoming. he would be shocked at some of the comments. take a look . i would not let them go anywhere dress like that. they should have respect for themselves. so sad that parents think it is okay to send young ladies out with everything showing. it is one thing that is always upset me as a father of girls is when people say things like these girls need to dress so they do not distract the boys or even worse, they are dressing in a way in which they are asking for it. let's get something crystal- clear, now. it is not my daughters job to make sure your son is focused in school. it is also not her job to dress hideous enough where your son does not assault her.
8:43 pm
>> >> what is wrong with people? >> what is wrong with people is the great american pastime of judging other people's parenting is like the great american pastime. people do it all day, every day. they cannot even help themselves. most people have enough etiquette to keep them to themselves. in this world of social media, time to start tweeting and responding, and start saying really, really, things. >> really dumb things. this man is a news anchor in florida. you are a news anchor here in new york. do you -- what is your policy on kids and social media question mark you ever post photos? >> i have tried not to. i have tried -- my son is playing a lot of guitar and concerts, i cannot help it. i am like a look at this kid! but, we have all had
8:44 pm
conversations with security people when they say, listen. you have to assume that there are some people out there that have an unhealthy interest in your life. you just had to keep that in mind. we try to keep it a little bit muted, as well as the larger question of telling a 17-year- old, you know what, some of the stuff you're putting out there is really kind of strange. it may come back to haunt you. can you follow my kids? >> you might want to take a look at it. you know, what they think is funny and funny now, it can go into some pretty strange places pretty quickly. whenever there is a story like that, i show them. here is a kid who is college acceptance was revoked based on something that was pretty funny. he probably does not think it is very funny now. >> those girls, by the way are not dressed provocatively. that is how teenage girls dress. they looked great, his daughters. the idea that -- i like what he said. why is it my daughters responsibility about your sons?
8:45 pm
>> that is exactly right. the idea that everything is going to depend what and how we teach our girls is ridiculous. there is another gender here, the boys, they need to also be taught and listened to. i am pretty hard-core about this. anyone who might have strange people following them or whatever. never put your kids up in real time. as a national security expert. do not put your kids up if you want to put your kids up, do not put them in real-time. do not say where you are. people think, i cannot believe people that i know have enemies. oh, here we are in hawaii. it is like, do not tell us where you are. >> do not tell people where you are because they will break into your home when you are not home where they will find you. >> if you say i am here at the beach . here i am with my kids. here is what my kids look like. everyone has a different tolerance level, this to me is
8:46 pm
something that if you are reporter or something. you are being advised to it at some stage. he is a semi-public but that does not go to the things that people respond to. people were being mean to him and his daughters. >> your advice is great. >> it is a little bit hard- core, but i get it. >> you are a national security expert. >> look at, i ended up here. i am so happy. >> giving advice. do not put your kids in social media. >> these are all things that i hear often, too, what you said was best at what is wrong with people. >> that was so eloquently put to the point. i remember my friend, just the other day, posted something that her seven-year-old daughter wrote to her. why are people so dumb? i thought that was so funny, something happened to her at school. she said mommy, why are things so dumb question which is a child that understands what this world is about. i think it is unfortunate that women in general are criticized.
8:47 pm
i think especially in the world that i come from in sports. you know this being on television, we wear anything, we say anything, we are criticized for who we are and we cannot just exist. in a world where there is so much pressure, there is so much going on but i do not feel like we should be policing people. i love what he said. i hope my children never grow up to be an adult to criticize children. why are adults criticizing children. like, really? they cannot wear that? i was really glad that the father stayed up it is my choice to have him dress like this? no they would be in snuggies. they would be in snuggies. and when they would go out in snuggies, all the time here but i cannot put them in a snuggie or a paper bag from head to toe. teach your children to respect women. that is the message if you respect us, we matter. >> i am still surprised that i find when we put on pictures it is generally nice. people are complementary. you look great. people are so supportive. he must've put it up on like a station facebook or something.
