the midterms are just 11 days away, but the conspiracies and attacks are emerging. federal officials warning that domestic violence extremists are a growing threat to the midterm elections and beyond. here to talk about all of this. we have errol lewis with us, also kara swisher. and cnn chief law enforcement and analyst john muller.
12:02 am
john, i know you have great reporting on what happened with this attack. how it went down. how did the attacker get into the pelosi's home? do we know that yet? >> so he entered through the rear yard where they have the large french doors. they're still reviewing the video tapes but there's an assumption that the hammer was also used as an entry tool. >> he came in they think with the hammer. >> yeah. they're going over the video tapes. i got asked several times, was the hammer in the house and was picked up. or is it something that he came with. they believe he came with the hammer. and the movie version is how police get summoned. >> agreed. because paul pelosi had the presence of mind to call 911 and leave it an open call. >> i've learned a little bit more on that. he actually engages in a
12:03 am
conversation with the operator. there's a person in my house. and the operator is trying to glean this. like where are we going here. and at one point heather grimes says are you okay and he says no, i'm not. and the training these operators have a lot of this comes from domestic violence. where the offender is there and somebody is calling and they're trying to get the message across that they really need somebody. she takes that call and makes it a category a with a code three response. puts it on the mnt so the police are reading the call. they're getting a sense that something is not right here and this is the residence of nancy pelosi. so when they come through the door. there's these two men holding the hammer and they're basically staying, okay, to both of them. put down the hammer.
12:04 am
and mr. pelosi lets go of the hammer and the other guy strikes him immediately. the suspect. and then they cross the room and tackle the suspect, the rest is history. but that phone call, he was very cool and managed to get the message across to save his own life. the 911 operator was very intuitive was very good to realize this is worse than it sound. >> police credited her saying that they think her actions were intuitive and life saving. >> you've been to this home. >> paul is intuitive. i can see him being very calm in a situation like that. the house, i'm also perplexed. it's an area of san francisco that's quite protected near the
12:05 am
presidio. it's a wealthy area. i can only imagine getting in the back, there's a lot of wood back there for the presidio. >> and it's shocking in every level. but that said, maybe we shouldn't be shocked since we're 11 days from the midterms. things couldn't get hotter. >> we have a system that allows through algorithm to feed on itself. it's sad to find out this person has been posting conspiracy rants and all sort of stuff for 15 years. for facebook to pull the page down today, too late. whether it's my podcast, your show or my show you give them a little bit of room and you shut them down or go to a commercial. you do not just let this stuff
12:06 am
fester and spread. and it's a question that faceback has never answered and they ought to be responsible. >> it only takes one person to jump off the page. this constant rhetoric of hate that keeps spreading. and the political leaders have not stepped up the way they should by condemning things. so did glen younken. >> he had two second of passion. >> then he reverberated back to violence. >> it was so heinous. especially at the moment. it only takes one person to go down this highway of amplification and move into the real world. you don't need more than one and you saw it on january 6th. these same cries where's nancy was during the insurrection. >> exactly. verbatim. when we see social media which we believe this person's social
12:07 am
media. he has spouting complete nonsense about the election. he has january 6th. all the usual suspects. all the usual suspects. so can facebook shut something like that down? he wasn't making direct threats. >> i wouldn't necessarily blame facebook. i think you can say, i mean it shouldn't be up there right. it just is allowed to fester. i think what happens is some people actively now believe this. they become propaganda. it's prop propaganda. we should stop using anything with propaganda. it's effective. history has shown us propaganda can lead to deadly resultless. >> and that's what it is john as you well know. would leaders speaking out more vociferous, would that help shut it down? >> it's an interesting question. is the audience waiting for cues. one lesson we learned is we saw donald trump tweet out on january 6th okay pack up and go home. and we saw the films of everybody looking at social
12:08 am
media and they said, he said to go home and they all went home. we know they're waiting for cues. how many people have the moral authority of genera of people to hear those cues. you noticed the nypd put out an intelligence bulletin yesterday, it came out p publicly but it webt went out last week to police agencies saying. expect violence, expect trouble and be on guard for it. but here's why. and they point to a lot of things but including the 261 page the hard reset document that went down on the site terror gram which is a right wing extremist. attack political leaders, attack law enforcement including violence, shootings and so forth. facebook is nothing.
12:09 am
there's places that have this. >> some of them will go awail or wait until there's an act. if know where this is heading and we've seen it happen over and overagain it's up to the leadership to try and figure out what they think it is. pick up those cues. if they knew they would be met with across the board that efrp from the left everyone from the left to the right to everyone in between every commercial broadcaster would say this is beyond the pail. this is disgusting. we're all united in saying there's no place. instead, you have a senator saying we're going to send her back home. ha, ha, ha the wrong signal at the wrong time.
12:10 am
>> when donald trump will not step up and speak out, who can. >> that's not how it works. you line up on the steps of the capital. and your alternate, republican, democrat, republican, democrat. everybody alternates and you say it clearly. we do not support violence. it has no play. we will unite around this and we will do everything. >> is that the answer? >> no, i think we've gone too far because online. there was an information desert with so many people and now they're being flooded with the information. people that didn't use any of the mainstream media have found a place. you can see it happens until the early days of the internet is they finally found people that agreed with them and started to join and trade things. when you live in these

hi. i'm shannon storms bador. when we started selling my health products online our shipping process was painfully slow.
12:16 am
then we found shipstation. now we're shipping out orders 5 times faster and thanks to shipstation's discounted rates we're saving a ton. honestly, we couldn't do it without shipstation join over 100,000 online sellers who get ship done with shipstation go to shipstation.com /tv and get 2 months free. well, $44 billion later, elon musk now owns twitter. musk announcing today he'll form a content moderation council with diverse viewpoints and no major content or reinstatement decisions will happen before that council convenes. air our panel joins us. great to have all of you. in the 24 hours since elon musk has owned twitter, racist tweets have proliferated.
12:17 am
here are some choice and revoting examples to read for you. elon now controls twitter. unleash the racial slurs. k-words, n-words. next, i can freely express how much i hate n-words now. thank you, elon. another montage glorifying nazi germany, with the comment, i hear there have been some changes around here. was liked more than 400 times. one tweet showing a single racial slur in all capital letters was liked more than 5,000 times. what's that about? >> they like elon. he said the bird is freed, right? except a second later he said, we're having a content moderation thing which is probably because advertisers are like see ya. if the bird is that free and it turns into this, nobody wants to be near that as a business. so it's a very difficult walk he's going to have to walk here. >> i think one major advertiser,
12:18 am
gm, said, you know, we're going to take a wait-and-see approach, and there will be others. there's even been talk, and i saw it on twitter, of sort of a mass resignation campaign that people are considering, just walking away from the platform, which it might -- if it's going to be that kind of a sewer, no responsible person -- look, it was frankly news people, politicians, and so forth who were using that platform as opposed to some of the other ones. but no one is going to put any quality content in that sewer. >> i do want to get to what our personal responsibility is here in a minute. first, kara you were on last night saying it's already a cesspool at times for you. when you tweet at certain people, it's already happening. >> i said here last night that if i go decide that i want to support brittney griner or anyone that is in a marginalized community, the responses are vile. and it depends on where we're
12:19 am
at. it was interesting because last night after i said that, i got these responses, you're such a liar. no one uses those types of words. and here we are 24 hours and exactly what i said would happen has happened. here's the thing. twitter can be a good place. it's a good place to aggregate news. it's a good place to laugh, discover voices. i'm not kidding. it's how you use it. but it's very irresponsible in the sense that if we allow him to decide what free speech is. and i knew that would happen. i now people would come out of the wood work. they're waiting for that. here's the sad part. we're going to have to decide how we want to give our tension, our information on social media. i told you i was a fan of yours. i watch you. i listen. i pay attention. i'm like, this is great. this is what twitter is really for. but unfortunately we live in a time that is so polarizing, everyone feels entitled to an opinion and whether it's bots or whether it is someone that is actually at home and miserable and does not want to hear about
12:20 am
brittney griner or the election or who you think you should support, there are people out there who are determined to let us know that we are not welcome. and i'm talking about when i say "we," i'm saying the marginalized. it is so targeted. i don't have the time to go on twitter and -- i don't have the energy for that. >> the problem that he has really is a business problem. that's really at the heart of it. he's going to owe a big debt -- he's paid way too much for this, about three times that it's actually worth. the very big companies, meta and google, alphabet, had a terrible quarter, and they're good at making money at this stuff. the question is if he doesn't make it into a good business, it doesn't matter how rich he is. ultimately it will fail as a business. then it's what it is. he can keep it going if he feels like it, or he can lose billions of dollars. >> the easiest way to clean it up and maybe even make some money at it is to do what they do for the blue check members. make sure that everyone has a name and an address and that the anonymous hate that people can
12:21 am
do by proliferating all kinds of, you know -- even automate that process and send swarms of anonymous fake accounts all attacking people -- >> i think the issue is, look, tiktok is eating everybody's lunch and people are over there because they enjoy it. there are problems on tiktok, but the issue is can he come up with ideas, a subscription? if he's going to do a subscription, do i really want to have people yell at me when i'm paying a subscription. it's like going to a restaurant and have someone vomit on your shoes every time. can he do that for me? can he bring the enjoyable parts out? >> can't he clean up the garbage now? >> no. >> why? why can't we clean up the garbage? >> it's impossible to try to referee that. you don't know where it is. it's too -- it's bigger than -- it's actually bigger than what he can actually control. like it's extremely difficult to navigate through that. >> so if that's true, the content, whatever he's signing up, the content decision makers, is that going to work? >> it took facebook two years to
12:22 am
put together the thing, and it's still pretty ineffective. this is the oversight board. you have to do it with great thoughtfulness, and even then it doesn't work. it's fine, but it's not -- this is a tsunami of hatred. >> well, meta, as they say, they created the bulletin to -- remember the bulletins to combat what people were saying, what they call was hate speech. i know they asked me to start writing to basically try to, i guess, mediate what they already had on there, which was hate speech. they went to a group of writers, marginalized writers, people from different communities to get different voices on meta, and it still didn't work. >> that leads me to the question that i alluded to earlier, which is what is our personal responsibility? if there's all of this garbage and vulgar, vile stuff, at what point do those of us who use twitter need to say, no mas? we're not going to do this anymore. >> i think a lot of people are saying that right now. >> after this event of the last 24 hours, i'm thinking to
12:23 am
myself, why would i put anything in the middle of this garbage? if they don't take it seriously, if they don't have a serious approach, if there's going to be kind of a wink and a smile and, you know, kind of bogus talk about free speech as a cover for all of this, if there are going to be swarms of anonymous bots that are attackinging democracy there's no way i want to be part of that. >> here's the irony. of all the people i would pick to be able to do something interesting with this, it's elon musk. when he's funny, he is funny. >> i agree. >> but then he's not sometimes. that's the way he is. look, he should be able to do what he wants. he hasn't necessarily crossed lines yet. he's tasteless. >> i don't know. i think he is -- and this is not a -- it's not a disrespectful thing, but i think he is someone who is trying to poke the bear,
12:24 am
whatever bear that is. he just wants to be that way. i don't think -- there are people who create great content, and they give it away for free on twitter. if someone could actually find a new platform for them to give out great content because i'm a genius. >> obviously. >> clearly. what i tweet, i don't know if i should give it to twitter. i don't think they deserve it. i'm being funny obviously, but there are people who legitimately feel that way. if there was another platform where they could go and give their content without harassment, without feeling like this is an issue, without feeling as if they're glorifying his product that he doesn't necessarily take seriously, they will do that. >> absolutely. tiktok. let's put aside the chinese for a second. it's a beautiful product in that regard. >> yeah. >> and there's problems on it. >> are you on tiktok? >> i am not, no. >> are you dancing on it? >> can you start dancing on tiktok? >> i feel like age -- >> yeah, i get it. >> i disagree. there's a huge audience for that, you dancing. >> but i'm going to follow all
12:25 am
of your leads. >> wait. he just bought the company, so perhaps we'll see what he does. >> we'll see. >> he spent a lot of money on it, so we'll see. >> maybe he's emotionally invested in it. thank you, guys, for the great conversation. one of the highest profile celebrity couples announcing that they are ending their marriage. we talk about where it went wrong, next. table anywhere and spread germs everywhere. wherever they rest protection nothing kills more viruses, including the covid-19 virus, on more surfaces than lysol disinfectant spray. lysol. what it takes to protect. when moderate to severe ulcerative colitis persists... put it in check with rinvoq, a once-daily pill. when uc got unpredictable,... i got rapid symptom relief with rinvoq. check. when uc held me back... i got lasting, steroid-free remission with rinvoq. check. and when uc got the upper hand... rinvoq helped visibly repair the colon lining. check. rapid symptom relief. lasting, steroid-free remission. and a chance to visibly repair the colon lining.

it's official. tom brady and gisele bundchen announcing today that they've finalized their divorce after 13 years of marriage. supermodel bundchen says she and brady have grown apart, and in
12:30 am
an interview with "elle" magazine last month, she talked about brady's decision to un-retire as a star quarterback for the tampa bay buccaneer after announcing his retirement last winter. cari, give us the real scoop. is this really about that he just chose football over his family? >> i think for years, i think gisele has been very patient, and i think that she has been probably more subdued than she has wanted to be in terms of her personality. there's been a history of her being very vocal about what tom is up to. there was the time in which she went on cbs and said he suffers from concussions all the time. that was breaking news. you're not supposed to say that. he's never been on the injury report list for a concussion. there are times when she's complained about other people complaining about him and she was overheard. my point being is she has been exhausted being his wife in terms of this football career. he retired because he promised her, from my understanding, that this was it. when he un-retired, she was
12:31 am
like, you're family or me? this is what we're hearing. by the way, people like tom brady, this is not a subjective opinion. he's the greatest in football. he's the g.o.a.t. people like tom brady are in love with what they do. nothing gives them more pleasure. nothing can give them that adrenaline rush. you love your family, but you love what you do. i remember michael jordan once said, i love my wife. this is when he's at the paeeakf his career. but my wife really, truly is basketball. i'm paraphrasing. and people know that. when you are with these greats, these people who have an innate ability unlike any other, and they are generational talents, you have to understand the sacrifices they make. sometimes they can't even walk away from that. tom doesn't think he can retire. he's 45 years old. not to mention i'm on my high horse right now. >> keep going, girl. keep going. >> i'm so enjoying this, i can't tell you. >> but let me tell you something. tom, i casually joked with my friends today. i was like, what do you think
12:32 am
gisele's group chat is like because he has not won a game, and he hasn't had this bad of a start since -- >> you think she's taking a victory lap. >> she's like, i told you. you should have stayed your butt at home. >> well, you know, the other thing is there's so many pictures of her on the field after a win. optically she was so supportive of his football career. we'll get to them in a second. but, you know, they're kissing after every one of his super bowl wins. then at some point enough was enough, i guess, errol. i think she was vocal about it. she said here in the "elle" magazine, she said, i've done my part, which is to be there for tom. i moved to boston, and i focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams, seeing my children succeed, seeing him succeed and being fulfilled in his career. it makes me happy. at this point in my life, i feel like i've done a good job at
12:33 am
that. >> by the way, he's not the only one in that relationship is hard charging and married to the work. this is somebody who has been working since she was 13 years old. if you believe any of the celebrity stuff you can find online, their worth combined, something like three-quarters of a billion dollars, and she has more than he does. >> is that right? >> yep. >> this is somebody who has been extremely patient, and that probably factors into this a little bit. >> i also thought, juliette, that it was interesting what he said on howard stern. he said there were a couple of years ago that she didn't feel like i was doing my part for the family. she felt like i would play football all season and she would take care of the house. then my season would end, and great, let me get into my other activities. she's saying when are you going to do things for the house? she's like, i have goals and dreams too, and you better start taking care of things at the house. that was in 2020. two years later, he didn't fulfill that side of the
12:34 am
bargain. >> i take issue with her comment, i had to move to boston. that's like where i live. it's not that bad. i'm so sorry. it's not real, i get it. look, i mean it's so fun being here by the way. being from new england, i am team gisele on this one even though everyone will hate me back at home because he's so popular. look, he said in the last two weeks, you know, playing for the nfl, which he makes more money than god, is like going to war. something is wrong here. his sense of sort of an appropriate exit, you want to leave at a certain time. here we are with people dying in ukraine and our military going to war, and you're, you know, divorce is sad. there are children involved. so the pity party is a little bit much. >> i take cari's point that it is his identity. it's not his career. it's his identity. >> and anyone who knows him -- i

remember many a times we interview people who played with him, who play for him. tom is competitive if anything. if we were playing ping pong, he has to win. he is the ultimate competitor, and he doesn't see anything wrong. if he still feels like he's upright and he can throw that ball, he wants to play. it's an obsession that i can't even understand it. we can't get inside of his mind. i think for her, she tried. as she said, she tried. you talk about how much they're worth. yes, it is mostly her money. she's like, we don't need your little change, honey. >> when you think about he could have stayed retired. the marriage wouldn't have imploded as publicly, and everyone would have remembered -- everyone remembers your last day, and you sort of think about sort of these -- this season for him and what's imploding publicly. >> why is he doing -- i mean -- what's going wrong this season? >> i could easily say it's
12:36 am
because of what he's dealing with. i think tom is not in a good place in terms of his teammates and who he has in his support system. he needs more help. it's not easy to do what he's been able to do. it is difficult to go in sunday or monday and win each single time you have the ball. it is the hardest thing to do in football because it's taxing on your body. they implement it where he gets two days off as opposed to one day off because he's old er. i want you to understand how obsessed he is. when there was the idea that he was retiring, he got the biggest contract ever in broadcast history, and he went to the head of the class. never has he been on television. he's not doing what you do. you deserve $40 million. and it wasn't that much, but she deserves it. >> i'm like, wait a second, tom. i've never even seen you talk on camera like that. give this money to alisyn. >> never mind that i don't know a single thing about sports.
