2:00 am
whether you're ready or not, here we come. >> hey, heads up. wake up, anchors. speak, people.
2:01 am
that's what happens in the studio. you guys have no idea. >> it is friday. >> tgif, people. >> amen. >> friday, it's been a big election week. friday after the election. congress is still undecided on friday. the election happened and we have results to tell you about. today maricopa, arizona's most populus county. where they're coming from. we're live on the ground in phoenix. >> also an average governor, that's a quote. also this quote, lack of loyalty. donald trump tearing into florida's governor ron desantis. this is just days before trump's, quote, big announcement that he'll make tuesday night at mar-a-lago. >> it's a high stakes meeting on the backdrop of russia's war in ukraine. we'll tell you what's on the table with president biden and chinese president xi jinping
2:02 am
when they sit down in a matter of days. >> we're going to start with what is a slow, slow, slow drip. new vote totals coming in. let's start with josh campbell. good morning to you. do you have any news for us? when can we expect this next wave of votes that are supposed to drop? >> good morning to you. very slowly votes are being counted behind me in maricopa county. 80,000 new votes. they didn't move the needle that much on the two key races we're looking for. the race for u.s. senate. mark kelly up about 115,000 votes over venture capitalist blake masters. in the gubernatorial race it is a lot narrower. katie hobbs over kari lake. there are still 540,000 votes left to be counted. that includes 290,000 votes that
2:03 am
voters actually dropped off on election day. they received their ballots by mail. they didn't know who they were going to vote for. that is going to take some time. officials haven't given us a specific time when they expect to have all of the votes counted. all eyes on the state, don. >> what about the candidates? are they saying anything? >> they are. i mean, as is expected, we're hearing optimism from essentially all four of those candidates i mentioned saying they believe in the end they will come out on the top. it's specifically comments from kari lake that has drawn the ire of election officials. she has described the process as possibly being deliberately slow rolled. that causing officials to speak out. take a listen. >> quite frankly, it is offensive for kari lake to say these people behind me are slow
2:04 am
rolling this when they're working 14 to 18 hours so i really hope this is the end of that now. we can be patient and respect the results when they come out. >> it's ironic to us that people who are calling into question the integrity of this election and want faster results don't understand that it's actually those processes that add the integrity to our election process. >> reporter: of course, bill gates, the head of the maricopa county elections, is furious. they continue to say it takes time to count the votes. it's the conspiracy theories. that's the reason this building is surrounded by sheriff's deputies. that's something that's become quite common place in this modern era. officials and volunteers, they have to have heavy security because of the conspiracy
2:05 am
theories. >> they're working really, really hard to get everything done in a timely fashion. patience, patience, patience. >> bill gates sitting out, it's important. catherine cortez mast so is closing the gap. lauren boebert is fighting to hang on. harry entin has the totals. >> good morning. >> what can you tell us? let's start with nevada. >> let's zone out. democrats need to pick up two senate seeds to pick up the majority. we have adam laxalt up by a point but as you were hinting at in your read, this margin has been closing, closing, closing, closing. catherine cortez masto was down
2:06 am
three points, she's down one. clark county, this margin 6 points. the presidential race two years ago was 9. it was five points when we spoke yesterday. as more mail votes have come in from clark county, catherine cortez masto's number is closing. there are tens of thousands of mail votes still out. i would not be surprised if she continues to close, close, close, eventually jumps out ahead. also a gubernatorial race in the state of nevada. joe lombardo has a somewhat larger lead than adam laxalt. it's a three-point advantage. this may hold even if the senate flips. we could have split ticket voting where there's just enough people and enough independents
2:07 am
who say i'm going to choose a republican gubernatorial candidate and democratic for senate. we'll have to wait. in nevada, looking better for democratic in the house. broad leaf, people just waking up this morning. you have to tell us what the numbers are in that race in colorado? lauren boebert's race. >> let's start off on the broad view of the house, right? republicans in the fall, if we look at the seats in which they're ahead, this includes uncalled races. i think there's a question as to whether or not the democrats could actually take the lead in the uncalled races. i want to go to california for a quick second and give you an idea how many votes are already counted.
2:08 am
david valladeo is up. look how much of the estimated vote is reporting. it's just 32%. there's 2/3 of the votes to be counted. right here where john durate is up by less than a point. 44% of the vote is reported. don't be surprised if some of these california races flip. i'm not saying they will. there's plenty of room finally, colorado. lauren boebert. she has a slight advantage, 99% of the vote. i'm not sure if there's enough for boebert to lose. a close race nobody thought. >> you know when they say every vote counts. >> folks, if you didn't vote, i don't know what to tell you. >> harry, thank you. fresh off his re-election
2:09 am
win in florida, governor ron desantis is under attack by donald trump. he's saying ron desanctimonious. i've only focused on the governor's race, not looking to future. in terms of loyalty and class, that's not the right answer. trump is taking credit for desantis's race. i sent in the fbi, u.s. attorneys and the ballots and did of course referring to what happened in 2018 with the vote count in florida. to talk about what is happening now is ron brownstein. >> good morning, gang. >> your election outfit. >> thank you. >> if you've been speaking to people in trump's orbit, none of this is a surprise. this has all been happening behind the scenes, it's just
2:10 am
bursting into the public. because ron desantis cruised to victory. >> in polls they are asking if you are a supporter of trump or the republican party. donald trump is a supporter of donald trump not the republican party. the idea that he would take the biggest republican victory on tuesday night. , immediately turn it about him and attacking desantis is an indication of what the party has ahead if they move on from him. there's nothing in american politics that can prepare you for running against donald trump. we saw him break marco rubio and ted cruz in a way that they still seem broken politically to him. ron desantis is -- it's the mike tyson rule. everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.
2:11 am
on paper there's a lot of reasons for desantis to be on poe miss stick. you've got to do it every day and this is a reminder of what it's like. >> no one knows that better than desantis. >> is it different? i love when you write about the mike tyson rule. human nature is different than what your resume looks like. but is it different with all of the republicans? not all of them but publications and media walking away from trump? does his punch carry the same weight? >> let's do the ledger. >> no question, 6 0% of the voters in an electorate that was more republican than in 2024. 60% negative. there's clearly infinite money.
2:12 am
there are two big problems for anyone to boat eat trump. the republicans advantage whoever has the biggest block, even if it's not a majority. trump has a very loyal base. in 2016, poppy, he was the presumptive republican nominee. he had pulled away from the field before he won 50% in any state. and the other problem is that the base in the party that is resistant to trump are college educated trump. they were resistant at 2016. he won 25% of them. can anyone unify them? >> okay. i might be the skunk at the garden party. >> yeah. >> cynically, not cynically, why do we care? when i saw the donald trump thing and ron desantis, i was like --
2:13 am
>> i think most people feel the same way. >> it's just like -- donald trump would be standing at the edge of the ocean screaming to the ocean. he doesn't have the new york post, doesn't seem to have fox news, the only people talking about him are us. the average person is i am sick of donald trump's bs. their eyes kind of glaze over. why do we care? >> the question is -- >> that's a serious question. >> no, i totally -- obviously the movement in kind of elite conservative circles after 2022 is they don't think donald trump can win. we talked about this the other day. if you look at what happened to his candidates in the key states that made joe biden president, five flipped, arizona, georgia, michigan, pennsylvania, wisconsin. trump nominees -- >> you're giving me all the technical stuff, ron. i'm saying, we're giving him his power. >> no. >> you don't think we give him the power?
2:14 am
>> no. there is still a formidable base in the party that is with him. >> look at the primaries. >> right. exactly. the fact that his candidates were able to win. that has been what has intimidated. >> he's not even said he's going to run. >> tuesday 9:00. >> why don't we save this? 2016, this is the equivalent of saying donald trump is about to hold a rally. let's put a camera. why don't we hold the camera, talk about things that are happening now. when donald trump says i'm going to run then this actually becomes real instead of giving him his power and doing exactly what he wants us to do because he doesn't have twitter. >> maybe none of us -- >> he will soon have twitter if twitter stays around. >> i know. >> a minute later he'll say we're running. >> there are a lot of republicans who would like to be
2:15 am

when you were just reading that introduction i was getting out of breath. it's a lot to take in. really, despite this very high profile ceo, now owner, despite some of the antics that we have seen, twitter is no different than any other tech company right now. it is competing for eye balls. what i mean by that, there are a lot of offerings on the digital landscape right now. we have seen this competition. facebook talked about layoffs because it's hard to get people on the platform. it's hard to get advertisers. it's no different really than the charges peloton has had to get people to sign up. that's a digital platform as well. i think twitter is in that same space. >> i hear you but i think there are two distinct things. one, advertisers are scared because of the misinformation and increased hate speech.
