with us. are you saving your voice for the goal? >> i am saving my voice for the last goal of the final, hopefully there won't be many or maybe there will be many. usually in the world cup final there's not that many. i'm saving my voice, trying to rest from here till sunday as much as i can. it ain't easy but here i am. >> have you recorded it or timed it, excuse me, for the longest that you've actually said it? >> never, never, because there's so many emotions going into each game so i have no idea. it depends on how much air i have in my lugngs, how the play progressed. i never timed it. >> someone said this will always be morocco's world cup, even though they were ousted, the way they played. when it comes to sunday, the

"cnn this morning" continues right now. it was already clear to the media that the palace wasn't going to protect her. once that happens, the floodgates open. >> and i realized that i wasn't just being thrown to the wolves
4:02 am
i was being fed to the wolves. >> what a saga. good morning, everyone. that by the way, brand new clip from the harry and meghan docuseries, detailing their split from the royal family. we'll have more from london straight ahead. have you watched it yet? >> not a second. >> other than what we've covered here on the show with max. first we have to tell you about what's happening in the news. nearly 50 tornados across the south, at least three people are dead and there's catastrophic destr destruction. we'll get you there. a warning from the white house about a winter surge of covid, flu and respiratory viruses. a new poll spells trouble for trump. seems a ton of americans don't have an appetite for a white house run or a rematch between trump and biden. we get to louisiana to show you this morning at least three people are dead, multiple people
4:03 am
hurt after a dangerous storm system moved through the state. nearly 50 tornados reported across the south over the last 48 hours, 16 of them in louisiana. and at this hour, more than 10,000 people in louisiana are without power. across the u.s., 130,000 people are in the dark and we find nick valencia in louisiana right now. not sure if they're in the dark. he's in gretna, louisiana. >> reporter: good morning. it's an eerie scene here. you can hear a faint sound of a fire alarm going off. i want to show you what's left of the church here. this used to be a church, you can see the tornado came through, busting pipes, water pouring out of the building, portions of the roof ripped off. the damage here in this community was extensive. we went into the neighborhoods yesterday to speak to residents. despite the damage we're told by
4:04 am
authorities here, locally, there was no loss of life. but many residents were just caught off guard by the outbreak of these tornados which is a rare event for this time of year. one of the residents i spoke to said the tornado lasted about 10 to 15 seconds. by the time she realized she had to go to the basement to take cover, she said the storm had basically passed. another resident i spoke to said her week and a half old brother was asleep in as bassinet and te tornado nearly sucked him away. we understand crews will be going throughout the area, surveying the damage and we expect the governor to host a press conference later. as i mentioned, no loss of life in this community but across the state at least three people have been killed and many injuries here. as the sun comes up we'll have a better understanding of the damage. >> nick, thank you. new this morning the white house is warning americans covid-19 is not gone.
4:05 am
also preparation is key ahead of this winter and a potential increase in cases. let's go to mj lee. you have great reporting after talking to dr. jha at the white house, how they're thinking and preparing for a surge. we're feeling that here in new york for sure. >> reporter: definitely. as we enter the holiday season of family gatherings and dinners and parties, the white house is offering this warning, covid is not over and you need to protect yourself. the white house to that end is launching this new campaign urging people across the country to really do all the things we are all so familiar with already. get vaccinated, get boosted, get tested and to that end they are launching and restarting the at-home free covid testing program. you are now allowed four free tests per household and offering up new support for nursing homes and other long term care facilities. when i was talking to dr. jha
4:06 am
last night he said covid cases have been on the rise in recent weeks and the reason the stakes are so much higher right now too is because of the so-called triple threat of covid, the flu and rsv. he did say, however, the rsv situation does seem to have peaked, which is just really good news, especially if you have gotten it or your children have gotten it, it's really rough. >> i think we all know at this point what to do if you get covid, isolation time, masking, go to the cdc website. the viruses seem much stronger this year because of masking like rsv, the flu, did dr. jha say anything about how to deal with that this holiday season? >> reporter: he did. i'm sure you experienced this. we know what to do when you get covid at this point, as you said, you isolate, you shouldn't go to work. but when you get the cold or something elsewhere you're feeling iffy, i think there's still the temptation to go to work or make the family
4:07 am
thanksgiving dinner. what dr. jha said, and this is the advice i think that would come from any doctor, if you're not feeling well you have to stay home. he was explaining the reason there was this specific guidelines for covid you can spread it when you're as asymptomatic where with rsv and the flu you're spreading it when you have symptoms. if you don't feel well, stay at home, even if you don't want to skip the holiday family dinner. >> it saves everyone else. so mj lee, thank you. appreciate it. >> this morning democrats still waiting on a formal announcement from president biden about whether or not he's going to run for re-election. it now appears one of the most influential people in his life is all in. cnn has learned that first lady jill biden is supportive of her husband running for another term that's notable since she's one
4:08 am
of the decisive voices in his orbit. joe biden is now encouraged by the results of the midterm elections and she's ready to go. look at this new poll when asked if biden should be the nominee in 2024, 40% of the democratic voters said yes. not as strong as where biden was at the beginning of the year but stronger than over the summer at 25%. his potential opponent, former president trump is not faring as well with his party, seeing the reverse of his trend. only 38% want trump to be their nominee. more striking when those same voters were asked who should be the nominee, who's the next person, the clear leader and favorite was florida governor ron desantis. 53% say they prefer anyone but trump. joining us now to talk about this is maggie haberman, cnn's political analyst. i feel you can hear the screams
4:09 am
from mar-a-lago from here over those numbers when it comes to desantis. >> i don't think any of this is making donald trump happy. the cnn polls looks like other polls. this is a trend. donald trump's calling card is strength and being seen as strong within his party. when that starts to erode it's hard for him to keep other people at bay. he's the only person running right now, you wouldn't know that because he's done no events. i can't remember the last time i saw somebody announce for president and do literally nothing. i'm told it's going to change next month we'll see what happens. but this is not where trump wanted to be. >> he put out a survey the other day, i should note, all the reporters that cover trump get blast emails he put out a survey where he should hold his first rally. >> missed that. >> but it's been a month now to the day, i think. >> rallies are expensive. i don't know how much money he's raising, that's something everyone needs to keep an eye on. if you see donald trump doing
4:10 am
events that are not a rally, that is telling about the state of his campaign in a different way. we'll see what happens. >> the announcement was lackluster, the energy was low. he's not doing anything. keeps teasing stuff, but it's honestly i feel like kind of who cares, out of sight, out of mind. >> there was a column this week by josh green at bloomberg that i thought was dead on, which is elon musk is actually hurting donald trump's campaign because he made himself into the main character on twitter as the villain and the maga liner. if you have someone doing trumpian things on twitter why do you need trump? we're so early in the campaign at this point, it's not like we're going to see a lot of candidates jousting. trump got in earlier than i remember anyone doing. >> can we talk about the cnn polling that i thought was so interesting. it's not that people don't want a trump/biden rematch. they don't know who they want.
4:11 am
>> totally. >> isn't that worse for the former president and president, it's we don't want you but we don't know who we want. >> biden is in a stronger position. i know there are people in his party who will privately say we don't want you to run. there's a lot of people saying they don't want trump. >> biden is winning. i'm sorry, biden is winning. i don't know what the polling is showing you look at the inflation reduction act, lower gas prices, lower prescription drug prices, brittney griner, the respect for marriage act. biden is winning. i don't know what the polling is going to show. if his wife says run, i think he's going to do it. >> all signs are that he's going to run. the white house is saying don't write stories that he's running and we're going to tell you
4:12 am
these stories he doesn't know. all signs are that he is going to run. he has winds at his back in a way that donald trump does not. one thing that was interesting about one of the polls yesterday. "the wall street journal" poll shows trump getting beaten by desantis. biden is strong against trump, trump is stronger against biden than anyone else, i think. it reminds me of what we saw in 2016, which is that hillary clinton and donald trump were the two who could beat each other. i don't know what it looks like going forward if it's not trump for biden. >> that's something the white house is watching. trump is known. desantis has gotten a lot of praise. we don't know how he would fare -- >> really important to bear in mind, we don't know. >> maybe he would do better than we think, maybe worse than we think. but that is something the white house is watching because they don't know desantis' weak points
4:13 am
in a sense like that. but we're so far out and some voters are like, let's wait. the fight that is happening right now is kevin mccarthy on capitol hill, who is fighting for his political life. there was a moment yesterday where manu raju asked him about this number, this fight to get to 218, and this is what he said. >> why has it been so hard for you to get 218 votes to become speaker when you have president trump apparently lobbying on your behalf, meeting with members of the freedom caucus, but the votes aren't there. why is it so hard for you? >> have you spent time with my conference. here we are with the biggest things going on on spending and i can always count on you for the most inappropriate question. >> it's not inappropriate at all. >> this is not an inappropriate question. it's a legitimate question, a mild one and asked plolitely. the real question is why he can't get there.
4:14 am
i'm of the opinion he probably will, i don't know what that looks like, i don't know what he gives the holdouts. i don't know if the holdouts get crushed by the moderates who kevin mccarthy is quietly leaning on right now. but this is not going well and he has a slim majority among republicans, and there's nothing wrong with what manu asked. >> even if he wins he has the same caucus, that's fractured. >> that's right. >> it's not like a victory. >> john boehner is cackling somewhere. people who have gone through the this, good for me. >> i think that answer shows how sensitive he is about it. it was the right question. and you're right he's going to continue to get that. that was a snarky answer and wasn't necessary. >> he's using manu as a tool which we have seen politicians do over and over again. but we'll be in the movie for the next three weeks.
4:15 am
>> thanks, maggie. i hope you get a break in the next three weeks. >> thank you, i hope we all do. >> you deserve it. >> thanks, maggie. new revelations from the second part of harry and meghan docuseries, speaking of drama and getting a break. the couple details their freedom flight out of the uk. a fight between harry and william. >> it was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me and my father say things that weren't true and my grandmother quietly sit there and take it all in. it's the you are my diamond sale. get 30% off everything. colonialism, slavery, and all of these are things they can talk about now and talk about in their documentary. these are things the firm is not going to go on the record about and when meghan or harry have done it in the past they're told they're out of line. so i would say they have more freedom now to talk about important things to the world, not just the palace. and to better serve the causes that the rest of us actually care about. >> got it. >> the line that cost me the most, the line that made me emotional is when she said, this is not my country. i have tried so hard to fit in and it's simply not good enough. every black british person understands exactly what she meant by that statement. >> yeah. yeah. >> we've all been there. we know what that is. to be bullied in this world, generally there's two ingredients, two things that make a person more vulnerable
