led by a lying president, and egged on by propaganda, they would converge on the united states capitol with a singular goal -- do whatever it takes to prevent the peaceful transition of power in the greatest democracy on earth. president donald j. trump lost the election. they were deceived into believing the presidency had been stolen, their country was threatened. they had come to washington to fight for what they thought was right. >> they feel they're the heroic revolutionary courageous warriors who are saving democracy. >> but they were wrong. it was all a lie. january 6th was insurrection, disguised as patriotism. wrapped in a trump flag. a lie fed to them from their president, their members of congress, their tv and radio
