4:00 a.m. in rehoboth beach where fbi agents have wrapped their search for classified documents at the president biden vacation home. mr. biden has repeatedly insisted he did nothing wrong in handling classified material, a claim echoed by the white house. >> i think that we won't get ahead of potential speculation and steps that could happen in the investigation. the president has been fully cooperative and he's directed his team to be fully cooperative. and that is because he believes in the independence of the justice department and giving them the space to conduct that review. so he is moving quickly to give them access to his homes so that they dican do a full search. >> the searches into multiple properties would be a clear sign that the justice department is remaining vigilant in its investigation. jessica sthichneider reports.

>> reporter: this was a third fbi search and it lasted for 3 1/2 hours wednesday at president biden's are rehoboth h house. no classified documents were found. and they say it was conducted in cooperation with the president and his attorneys and that the fbi and the doj had the president's full support and cooperation. and of course that has been a constant theme from the white house. they have repeatedly sought to differentiate the investigation into president biden's handling of classified documentation from the obstruction investigation going on with touchdown and his team because of documents found at mar-a-lago. but notably at the same time the search was under way, the special counsel handling biden's case had just started on wednesday, robert hur, he will be leading that investigation. but there is still a lot of questions as to what exactly has

been found from biden's homes and even his former office. our team has learned that dozens of classified documents in all have been found. no details on what exactly the documents taken. and biden's team on wednesday did say that even though no classified documents were found, to j doj did take some handwritten notes from biden's time as vice president from the home. the seernlg about two weeks ago lasted about 13 hours at the wilmington house. so now the question is will there be anymore searches by the fbi and it is still a possibility as the investigation moves forward. jessica schneider, cnn, washington. attorneys for hunter biden are calling to a criminal investigation into a computer repair shop owner and several republican political figures. they say private and personal information about the president's son has been good fligh

i was very hopeful. the meeting was better than i thought just like anything else. >> but each day without a deal brings the u.s. one step closer to default and the consequences would be dire. phil mattingly has the latest on the negotiations. >> reporter: president biden and speaker kevin mccarthy met for more than an hour in the oval office, there was nothing on camera, no statements by the two leaders at least before the meeting. after the meeting the speaker described the meeting that lasted more than an hour as productive, said it was a good meeting, said markets that are concerned about the potential for a u.s. default, first in the history of the country, should feel better about things. why? that still remains an open question. i think the fact that they had a conversation at all seems to be viewed as progress from mccarthy's side of things. but the two prospectives which are wildly tdivergent are still wildly divergent. and while mccarthy said it was a

the nasdaq surged 2% and the s&p 500 closed more than 1% higher. it was spurred by the announcement that inflation is easing and that the federal reserve will be hiking interest rates by just a quarter percent. matt egan has the details. >> the inflation is not over, but it is shifting. the 25 basis point rate increase is the smallest since this fight against inflation began back in march. the fed is still trying to slow this economy down, to knock inflation down, but it has gone from slamming the brakes on the economy to tapping the brakes. and that is an important shift because it lowers the risk that the fed ends up causing an accident either in financial markets or in the real economy or in both. and the fed is changing it tune on inflation a bit. the statement says that inflation remains elevated, but
1:12 am
it also sees that it has eased. and jerome powell declared that the disinflation process has begun and he is pleased to see the prices are cooling off. also during the press conference powell didn't really seem bothered by the january boom in financial markets even though soaring stock prices actually makes it harder for the fed to cool off inflation. markets seemed to like what powell had to say. but powell did still talk tough about inflation, he said that it is way too premature to declare victory. and listen to this clip. >> it is very difficult to manage the risk of doing too little and finding out in 6 or 12 months that we actually were close but didn't get the job done. inflation springs back and we have go back in. and now you really do worry about expectations getting up an cored and that kind of thing. this is a very difficult risk to manage.ancored and that kind of. this is a very difficult risk to manage.
