no closer today to negotiations on potentially raising the u. s debt ceiling. president joe biden and house speaker kevin mccarthy have been at odds over the matter for months now. mccarthy house republican has referred to the u. s debt as a ticking time bomb. cnn's phil mattingly breaks down why neither man is willing to concede. but for several months here at the white house down in the capital, there has been a simmering battle over raising the debt limit. there is no question it's kind of an anvil hanging over washington's head, but the full engagement, the full escalation hadn't really taken place yet. not anymore. that is no longer the case, president biden ramping up the political pressure on house republicans on speaker kevin mccarthy, specifically, the speaker, laying out in detail his proposal that he says should launch negotiations with president biden. here's the issue really the central issue right now, president biden has made very clear and stop advisors. there will be no negotiations over raising the

debt limit that it should be done in a clean manner. no spending cuts, nothing attached to it, they can have negotiations over long term fiscal priorities, but not attached to the debt ceiling itself. mccarthy house republicans, they hold the majority, they say that's an absolute nonstarter. and that leads to basically this split screen. take a listen. folks here's this really dangerous mega republican congressman threatening to default on the national debt. the debt that took 230 years to accumulate overall. overall. unless we do what they say. they say they're going to default. unless i agree to all these wacko notions they have. president biden has a choice. come to the table. and stop playing partisan political games. or cover his ears. refused to negotiate. and risk bumbling his way into the first default in our nation's history . of course, the detailed his proposal on the house floor just a few moments before president

though, because already is stretched to the limit trying to make enough jobs for the unemployed. but i can see joins us from new delhi. i mean, it's really seismic moment. this isn't it, but how will the country cope? good question there, max. and this is an undesirable global title that india clearly doesn't want, but it has come its way and it's very important to understand and put this into perspective. it's not that india's population growth has been going up leaps and bounds, in fact, the population growth of both china and india have been going down. it's been decreasing at a slow pace, especially china. over the last year. you've had those discussions with our correspondents there as well. but there's a stark contrast and it's very important to understand that and here's what it is. in india over 60% of the population is under the age of 30. that makes it a massive workforce community that's raring to go to work. but of course, opportunities need to come their way. but with china that labor force has been

shrinking, they have people who are now of retirement age all beyond and that population of the older generation is only increasing by the year in china very quickly. i just want to put up a few graphics for you, according to the united nations, india population growth will continue to increase until the year 2060. that's when it's actually going to cross 1.7 billion. it stands at 1.4 billion, currently staggering growth fest staggering numbers, but also legislation and understand what's really left this and what are the numbers that we're talking about? when it comes to india, india's population has grown by a billion over the last 73 years. that's where it stands along with that, like i said, you have more than half of india's population under the age of 30. and more than 40% of india's population under the age of 25, the bath rate going down, but this is the crux of it. india has an opportunity here to make the most of its dynamic young

population under the age of 30 60% like i said, but economists say this is an opportunity for policymakers to make or break when it comes to providing employment opportunities. here's what an economist had to say to us. the population is growing and the working age population is growing. if that category of people do not find that of employment, then what was meant to be an opportunity. the bulge in that demographic dividend so called could become a huge challenge and problem for india. so these numbers could be a liability for india or lies now and policy makers. this is, of course, a symbolic milestone. but what will india make of it? how will capitalize on this huge , booming workforce? is the question back to you, max? okay very good. thank you. so much for joining us from new delhi. people with type two diabetes drink could impact how long they
