dispensary and some pink floyd and look up in the sky tonight. there's one option, making it and you'll sleep very we? well right there you go on this for 20. cnn news. central starts right now. ready to launch space checks will soon attempt to send the largest and most powerful rocket ever built to space. cnn is live at the launchpad ahead of this historic flight and second try delayed decision. aqui abortion
6:01 am
medication will remain available through midnight on friday after the supreme court pushed their self imposed deadline. due to conflicting rulings from federal judges in two states. we are tracking a major threat more than 50 million people from texas to wisconsin, bracing for severe weather after deadly tornado slammed parts of oklahoma overnight, officials fear the death toll could rise these stories and more coming here to cnn news, central. if all goes well, we are just minutes away from the historic launch of the spacex starship, the largest and most powerful rocket ever built. this is a critical test fight with test flight with a longer term goal of one day, taking people back to the moon, and maybe even mars . the launch window opens this hour 9 28. am eastern. to be
6:02 am
exact. then it gives spacex a 62 minute window to get that massive rocket off the launch pad. this test was originally planned for monday. you'll remember, but that launch was called off almost as soon as the window opened because of a pressurization issue. but now the starship team says it's a go . the rocket will take off from the coast of boca chica, texas, and then it's going to fly partly around the world. to ultimately splashed down in the waters of hawaii. cnn's ed lavandera is back in texas for us joining us now, ed, how's it looking there this morning? well the weather looks much better on monday, but elon musk tweeted just moments ago that everything is on track to launch. we're about 25 minutes or so away from the scheduled launch, but the weather continues to be a factor . we're told by a spacex official that the weather conditions are mostly favorable . we've had a lot of cloud cover here this morning. in fact, just within the last 20 to 30 minutes, we've really started being able to get a clear glimpse of the rocket there on
6:03 am
the launch pad. so we are, as you mentioned that window opens up about 8 30 central time 9 30 eastern, and so far everything is on track. but remember, everything was on track on monday about this time it was about six minutes or so before the scheduled launch that the launch was scrubbed because of a pressurization valves. that had frozen somewhere in that rocket system. we haven't got much clearer indication of what exactly happened there over the last few days, but we were told spacex officials have been working on cleaning that up, but they've already put in the fuel . the propellant is inside the rocket system. they did that within the last hour, and that is about £10 million of liquid methane and liquid oxygen inside that rocket system and remember you know, as we've said over and over again, this is one of the most powerful the most powerful rocket ever built 33 engines in that heavy booster that lower part of that rocket system, which is about 230 ft. long the entire rockets about is about 400. and this launches it will
6:04 am
take off and kind of go out toward the east toward the gulf of mexico about three minutes into the launch. the booster will separate from the right the rocketing continue traveling eastern, it will not make a complete orbit around the earth . it will come up short, it will splash down somewhere in the pacific ocean. around hawaii, and the entire mission should take about an hour and a half. but that is best case scenario, so we'll see if this continues to play up so far this morning, everything seems to be on track . once again. we'll see if that holds for the for the next 30 minutes or so. absolutely very exciting. next 30 minutes. lavender is on the on the ground for us right near the launch pad. and sarah, we just had the countdown clock up. there it is right behind you. there that one's for monday, but they were 25 minutes out from that window to open. okay i want you to stick around because i need you to geek out with me a little bit. all right. here's what makes the starship rocket system so impressive. it's massive, sending it 394 ft when fully
6:05 am
assembled. look at that. that's more than 70 ft, taller than nasa's artemis one moon rocket system and nearly 90 ft. taller. than the statue of liberty. it's also incredibly powerful. you just heard ed lavandera say 33 engines will lift starship off its launching pad in south texas and generate £16 million of thrust. the rocket that took nasa astronauts to the moon had only £7.6 million of thrust. now starship can carry 150 metric tons of crew and cargo into space. that's close to 3300 and £31,000, and it's not only huge. it's also designed to be fully reusable, which means that when it returns to earth, both the rockets and the spaceship have to land in one piece. here's a look at an animation of what that would look like for ellen must starship is the start of his dream to put humans on mars . but starship could do way more than that. it could change the way we travel here on earth speaks test claims that starship
6:06 am
could get you anywhere in the world. look at that. in an hour. or less. wouldn't that be nice? john paris in 30 minutes, 30 minutes with certainly be nice for about 22 minutes away. i was just looking at the clock from launch with us now cnn aerospace analyst miles o'brien, miles. my favorite thing about launches is i get to talk to you. what's your favorite know what's the most exciting part of this mission? what's the most exciting part of this mission to you? miles you, mr berman? of course it's talking to. you clearly know it's there's such excitement when you consider the amount of power that comes out of a rocket like this. this is twice as strong as a saturn five. i wish i could be there near the texas coast just to feel it. i remember sometimes when the shuttle used to launch if the conditions were just right, john, the fish would jump out of the pond in front of the press sites. that gives you an
6:07 am
idea of howard. kind of rattles the fillings out of your teeth. elon musk has been trying to lower expectations with this saying things like success isn't the main goal today or it's not expected or we'll be lucky if the launch pad doesn't explode. what's going on here? is that actually fair or is he just trying to make us excited about this? well, if you look at the history of this program, there have been a lot of mishaps or tests that went to rye. along the way. the spacex philosophy is to test frequently rapidly learn from the mistakes and move forward. this is a test that we are all paying a lot of attention to and so he's trying to prepare us for that idea. that things can go awry. we're talking about 33 separate engines in the first stage, making all of those fire in perfect synchronicity and just as they should. it's an awful lot of plumbing that has to go just perfectly for this to work
6:08 am
, john. so he is setting us up for the reality that when it comes to, uh, space. uh it's a cliche, but space is hard. how important is this for nasa and what are supposed to be the next steps in space exploration. we won't get human beings onto the surface of the moon without starship nasa has contracted with spacex. to use the top portion of that rocket. the black portion, which is the starship portion of this stack, it's actually two vehicles super heavy lift at the bottom and starship at the top, but a modified version of that will carry nasa astronauts from a nasa craft and the space launch system orion capsule to the surface of the moon. so this is crucial. it's interesting. you know, elon musk started developing this. he called it the bf are for big well, let's just say freaking rocket back in 2005 before he had a single
6:09 am
successful launch, and he developed this out of his own pocket while he pursued the falcon one all the way through to the falcon nine. and along the way, nasa started paying attention to this starship program and ultimately ultimately became accustomed to myr. so it's interesting how spacex is now intertwined with nasa. it is what will take humans to the moon. hopefully in the next few years, you're looking at nasa pictures here of the launch site. people lined up to see it. they will feel it. i think as they see it as you describe miles o'brien don't go far because when this thing launches if it launches, we're going to want more from you shortly. thank you so much. miles sarah, always so cool to see you guys chat, and i love him. and i love the idea of being able to sit there and watch this wonder it's a wonder going to the moon almost as cool as speaking two miles. not quite. yeah. all right back here on earth. at least two people are dead in oklahoma after multiple tornadoes touched down in that state. both deaths were reported in the small town of
6:10 am
coal that's south of oklahoma city tornado caused widespread and significant damage. officials are searching for debris for survivors and fear the number of people killed could rise when local storm chaser was right in the middle of this intense storm. look at the winds flowing into the tornado. oh big power flashes hitting cold right now. oh, my gosh. oh my gosh, this is incredible. back up a little bit more. we're fine. where we're at the tornado is getting stronger . right back over here to the left. it's moving extremely slowly. wow more than 14. tornadoes were reported across three states in oklahoma for others in iowa and three more in kansas. let me give you a look at the aerial video that shows heavy damage to a neighborhood in oklahoma city buildings. they're completely flattened
6:11 am
here. you can see severe damage to a low those right there in the city, the roof partially collapsing into the store and to breathe. littering the parking lot. cnn's derek van dam is joining us now, derek. these tornadoes just seem to keep coming and coming and coming. can you give us a sense of what the threat is now? well yesterday's tornadoes, for instance, had such erratic behavior that it's very difficult to pinpoint exactly where a tornado is going to spawn out of these very erratic moving tornadoes. now today's threat is a completely different ball game. even though it's the same storm system. we're starting to see that threat of severe weather extend further north. we've noticed from the storm prediction center. they've included central portions of illinois. so as we start to see the daytime heating from the sun we get to destabilize the atmosphere will see the increase. reese for severe weather. a small chance of tornadoes for these locations, including central texas, but the greater threat here really damaging winds and very large hail just to summarize what sarah mentioned 15 tornado
6:12 am
reports in the past 24 hours. and hail over three inches falling from the sky. that's the size of a baseball. here's the latest radar zooming in and i want to show you some of the stronger storms that were warned a few hours ago that rolled through kansas city with gusts over 60 mph again. this is associated with the same storm system that brought the tornadoes to oklahoma city yesterday evening, so we know they have the capability of producing tornadoes. now we need the ignition. and that, of course, is the sunshine when we start to destabilize and make that atmosphere a little bit more volatile. here's the probability of tornadoes today that shading of green where you see just outside of the chicago suburbs. anywhere around a 0.25 miles around a point. we have a 2% probability of experiencing a tornado today. sarah thank you so much. derek, that was telling very scary. okay today, the abortion pill mifepristone is still widely available, but it is not clear at this hour. how much longer than it will be? the supreme court pushed off their self imposed deadline yesterday,
6:13 am
meaning that the justices now have a bit more time until actually 11 59 pm tomorrow night to consider the challenge against the medication and also consider what to do about the lower court rulings that have thrown the future and fate of this abortion medication into real limbo. here's what the justices are looking at right now. most immediately. it's a decision from the fifth circuit court of appeals, and that court handed down a ruling last week that did not fully side with the ruling that kicked off this legal chaos. the judge in texas who moved to block fda approval of the drug just don't remember has been fda approved for 23 years. but the fifth circuit did agree to re impose some restrictions. restrictions on the pill like preventing women from getting the drug after seven weeks of pregnancy, also now stopping access to the drug by mail and requiring in person doctor's visits before getting the medication, no matter the outcome of what the high court decides. the justices certainly know how high the stakes are. abortion pills account for more
6:14 am
than half of the abortions in the united states today and as we wait to hear from the justices joining us right now is former federal prosecutor we're not a mariotti. it's great to have you here. ronaldo. thank you. i wanted to get just your thoughts on what you think of the delay. first from the justices. what what do you think it could mean? it means that there's going to be some opinions that are going to be written in this case, and it really i think can go one of two ways, either. there are some justices that are concerned, considering actually letting the fifth circuit ruling going and going and place we're going to have some. maybe the more liberal justices right to sense from that explaining the stakes, and i think it could go the other. away where the majority of the court is. is willing to stay that ruling in dependency of the supreme court case, and the conservative justices are going to write a ruling definitely think there's going to be some contention and disagreement amongst us wondering if you thought that it's very most basic suggests that there is disagreement which you could assume there would be amongst this. this amongst the justices. i think that's safe to say, do you? i just laid out
6:15 am
kind of the complicated and it complicated road that got us where we are, in this moment, the kind of the complicated nature er of the appeals court and what they have put in place. and what they are now, considering what do you think the options are for the justices in terms of how they come down on this and what it means for millions of people across the country? so i think on one end of the spectrum, i think that they could decide that the doctors that brought this case originally don't have standing standing is essentially whether or not you actually or somebody is injured. sufficiently enough to be able to bring a lawsuit and i think there's a real question about whether these doctors have been injured at all . after all, you know, i'm a lawyer. if more people are arrested, i actually have more potential clients and for these doctors are claiming that more people have been injured or maybe injured by this drug. i don't think that that their claim is necessarily accurate. but even if it's true that doesn't necessarily indicate that these actors are harmed in some way. so that's one
6:16 am
possibility they could just get rid of the whole case on standing grounds. there's also a possibility that you're going to see something more like the ruling in the fifth circuit where they essentially say we're gonna allow, you know, certain claims are too old, because, as you pointed out a moment ago, 23 years a long time, there's some statute of limitations issues. in other words, certain claims are too old of already been been discarded, essentially. um and they're going to allow have some sort of, i'll say split the baby approach. it's also possible we're going to see something like a very traumatic ruling. i don't expect that because even some of the justices in the majority and dobbs justices like for example, cavanaugh made it very clear that federalism and allowing the states to have some ability to have different opinions regarding abortion, i think was important and what we have, but what we have seen, especially in just like the last week, plus as we've got, we've had moment after moment where we've had kind of these critical junctures that we've seen through the appeals process, and now we're at least gonna get we
6:17 am
will have something that is coming overnight where this is all going to happen overnight going into the weekend where this is all going to head looking forward to seeing. what your reaction is on next steps after that. thanks for not oh, it's good to see you. thank you, sarah. alright still ahead another day, another senseless shooting. this time, witnesses say a little girl and her dad were shot after her basketball accidentally rolled into a neighbor's yard. now there's a manhunt underway in north carolina, plus congresswoman marjorie taylor green silence. the reason a member of her own party barred her from speaking at a homeland security meeting and fuel shortages and florida nearly 60. of all gas stations in miami fort lauderdale area reportedly out of gas, but officials say at this point, there's no need to panic. for people who are a little intense about hydration neutrogena hydro boost lightweweight, clinically

6:24 am
latest example of a shooting over what seems like a simple mistake in just the last week, a teenager in kansas city was shot after he rang the doorbell at the wrong home to pick up his siblings in upstate new york woman was shot and killed after she turned around the wrong driveway outside austin, texas, two cheerleaders were shot after one mistakenly gotten the wrong car at a grocery store. and now in north carolina, six year old girl has stitches in her face all over a basketball. cnn's dianne gallagher is in north carolina this morning. diane give us the latest on this manhunt for the person who pulled the trigger. that's right. john police say they still do not have 24 year old robert singletary in custody that is currently an active manhunt in the gaston county area with us marshals and police here in charlotte, helping them they had helicopters out searching for this person. look, all of this, according to neighbors started over a basketball. they say that young
6:25 am
children were playing basketball and the ball rolled into robert singletary's yard, according to neighbors, he became angry. he started running out and began shooting. and that is when six year old ken's lee white, her father, her mother and another neighbor, were all shot and injured. father is still in the hospital here in charlotte this morning, his mother telling a cnn producer just a few moments ago that he remains in a lot of pain. he's taking it day by day, but he's terrified right now because this suspect is still out there. meanwhile, six year old ken's lee, who was released from the hospital doesn't understand why any of this happened. why did she shoot my daddy and me? daddy kid. dad looked at my husband and my daughter and told him i'm gonna kill you. just absolutely terrifying and again. remember, all of this, according to neighbors was over a basketball
6:26 am
john, according to records with the police department. singletary who again is still out there on the loose, was arrested back in december as well for using a mini sledgehammer during a domestic related assault and then preventing that victim from getting medical care. the mother of uh, ken's lee's father says that she's even more concerned because of this person's past. john, this is terrifying. my kids when they play basketball, the ball is in the neighbor's yard more than ours really unthinkable. diane gallagher, keep us posted. thank you. sarah nightmare new this morning. three young people are now facing murder charges for a mass shooting at a sweet 16 birthday party that left four people dead and at least 32 people injured in dade ville, alabama. the suspects are 20 year old wilson , lamar hill jr. 17 year old tyreek mccullough and 16 year old travis mccullough. they are all facing four counts of reckless murder. all of the

words to express the way we feel. sir i am so sorry for your community and for you and all of the victims there. we are going to keep you here. if you don't mind with us for a bit, we do have some news that is breaking right now. so i want to definitely keep you here and get back to you because i want to hear your thoughts on what you think needs to be done going further to keep people safe. stay with us. if you don't mind. we'll be right back with you. we do have some breaking news. we are almost at the point where the spaceship is going up to launch. let's listen in. okay, you can see the clock. has
6:29 am
recycled. flight director has called a hold. we are recycling. for the moment, we'll see where they moved the clock back to they could hold at t minus 40 seconds. that could go to an earlier point. give us a minute to listen into the net, and we'll see if we can get you more information to share. alright. ed lavandera is at the launch site and we just heard flight controllers say the clock is paused at 40 seconds. what does that mean? well, uh, we don't know exactly what the issue is at this point everything up until about now. they've been saying that everything was on track and everything looking looking good . um so we don't know if it's a weather issue. it's a wind issue
6:30 am
that has been a little bit of the problem or if there is some other technical issue that is ongoing right now, so it could be a multiple ah, multiple things that are going on right now. with this with this rocket launch. this is as close as we've ever come. when this was scrubbed on monday. it was about six minutes away, and they went through the process down to about t minus 10 seconds. so right now this launch on hold and there are thousands of people here on the waterfront of south padre island, watching this with bated breath as they wait to see what is exactly going to happen in this situation, so um, trying to figure out as i mentioned if it's a weather issue, or if it's a technical issue that they are dealing with at this point, but as i mentioned as we've been monitoring this for the last 30 minutes, spacex officials have been seen everything was on track that there were no issues . they have been going through the process of loading £10 million of liquid methane and liquid oxygen into the heavy
6:31 am
booster, which is the bottom part of the rocket. and then the spacecraft rocket itself was all was almost was already done as well. and they were also going through the process of cooling the entire system down and all of that started happening about three minutes t minus three minutes to this launch, so they've been saying that everything was on track. but here just about 40 seconds away from the launch is when they put it on hold and john, we continue to kind of wait and see if there's any other indication. i'm not hearing anything right now. so i would imagine they're in the process of what we've gathering that and seeing if we can hear any other, let's listen in ed. they're talking with this morning's rocket launch pressurization was just a little bit long. that's not unusual. we've held a t minus 40 seconds before to pressurize that appears to have been resolved the same time on the second stage. they're working some final purging. we should know very shortly. if that is cleared nfl continue the countdown.
6:32 am
everyone especially that person is excited to keep going. like john said. we should know shortly if we are able to continue, but as we mentioned before we are able to hold up to 15 minutes and still be able to lift off today on falcon nine, listening and learning it all with you at the very same time as they were on hold. i think they said that final pressurization was a little low is what i think i heard him say. um and then the second stage they're working on doing some purging for more on what that is going to mean. i'm gonna bring miles o'brien back in miles. they just said that they can hold for 15 minutes and still be within the window and lift off will jump in as they give us updates. but what do you hear in this? well in this business, you have to be able to operate under pressure. shall we say a and that's quite literal. it's um you know, if you recall it's scrubbed a few days ago for lack
6:33 am
of backfill kind of pressure. imagine like when you're drinking water out of plastic water bottle and you kind of critique wrinkles if you don't get airbag in it. well you don't want to rocket to crinkle. and so what they do is they take the gaseous methane and oxygen and kind of pump it back in the tanks, so it doesn't crinkle. so in this case, they had to fully pressure on eyes all these fuel lines for 33 rockets, and it took a little longer than they expected. and so they went into a hold. for now they've got in total of 62 minute window. so we've got some more time here. ah to play around as you can see as that. you see that what appears to be steamed, venting off the rocket that is liquid methane. but oxygen is kind of bleeding off, so they gotta keep it topped off at a certain point. they have to stop. hopefully they can get the pressure where it needs to be. well, thank you. miles looks like the countdown just just started again. just started back up miles so now at 26 seconds people are cheering. you can
6:34 am
hear them there. let's listen in you guys. eight. yes. mm hmm. stop. chamber pressure is nominal. 33 seconds into the point. the inaugural vehicles.
6:35 am
you're gonna picks over reports first stage engines nominal. what a sight from the ground cameras extraordinary flying it twice the thrust of the five. we're down in front of back up. the period of maximum aerodynamic question. velocity increases. the depth of the atmosphere is decreasing. that's cute stress on the vehicle call out next few now. continuing to watch the first stages. we head down range. 100 seconds into
6:36 am
flight. the next major activity is going to be the first stage. houston tracking station now acquiring the vehicle. shut down super heavy. mission of the starship engines. what starts up separates light up six engines in the staggered sequence all goes well. those six engines will burn from 6.5 minutes onboard view from starship. of the rafter engines on the second page. prepare for stage separation. after stage separation, the first stage will flip and begin to boost back maneuver for landing in the gulf.
6:37 am
continuing to fly two minutes 40 seconds. let's get ready for main engine cut off. stretch and cut off beginning to flip for stage separation . as of right now, we are awaiting stage separation. first starship should separate from the super heavy booster. yeah, kate right
6:38 am
now, it looks like we saw the start of the flip, but obviously we're seeing from the ground cameras. the entire starship stack continue to rotate. we should have had separation by now. obviously this is does not appear to be a nominal situation. yeah, it does appear to be spinning, but i do want to remind everyone that everything after clearing the tower was icing on the cake. obviously something just went a little bit wrong. despite the cheering you're seeing right now
6:39 am
, let's bring in miles o'brien. we did see the launch of the starship rocket all was going well, that it ended with an explosion there. miles. explain what happened. uh well, you, um there will be a lot of discussion about this. this the one thing i did notice, john. as it went up, there was a shot where you could see the bottom of the rocket. as i told you earlier, there are 33 separate rapture engines on this vehicle . six of them had not lit. so whether that is related to what we just saw. i don't know. i mean, without six engines that would potentially affect the ability of the rocket to remain stable. and that could, uh, ultimately have led to what we've seen here now is that an actual explosion of the rocket or was a button pushed on the ground? the self destruct button , which is designed to keep the rocket from flying into harm's way, we'll find out more about that as well. ah having said all
6:40 am
of that, given all of the explosions that have led to this moment since 2005. this is serial number 24 for the starship and there's been several mishaps along the way, all of which they've learned from you see the team at hawthorne, the young team, they're cheering. ah you know, they would probably try to characterize this as a pretty good success. they got past they light lit up most of the engines. they got past the launchpad didn't damage it and all of the data that they've gathered up to the point where things went awry will likely inform the next test flight, which is gives us another opportunity to meet once again. it was, of course we look forward to, i think, even right before monday's attempt, elon musk said. as long as they don't blow up the launch pad that is a success in this in this critical test miles. stick with us. i want to get over to ed lavandera, who's on the ground. of the things that was unmistakable was the was the
6:41 am
sound from people around you over the sound from somewhere the roar of the crowd that we heard upon lawn. just tell us what happened. look i got to tell you. you're looking at a kid from the eighties who never got to see a space shuttle launch inversion. so this is the first time i've ever experienced anything like this. um and it was surreal. uh we saw the rocket take off and it was well past the top of the launch pad, and then all of the sudden we started feeling you could feel the rumbling. you could feel it in your in your in your chest and you were kind of shaking. that's how powerful it was. and it was. it was really, really breathtaking. so that was in the crazy thing is like i think i knew that was going to happen, and it was still stunning to experience and it was almost moving, like in slow motion from our vantage point. i know it's not moving in slow motion, but from our vantage point, it seemed very slow. and at one point i was wondering like, is it really going to get up there? and so now, that's kind of the
6:42 am
experience and the cheering here. we talked to one gentleman a couple of days ago who had driven in from georgia to be here for this week. you can almost tell you like tears in his eyes is as this was happening, and then we saw it kind of go off to the east, leaving this large cloud trail. and even from there, you could still hear and feel the rumbling sound. and then it was that what the spacex officials describe as the unplanned this assembly, which is just a technical way of saying that it all went terribly wrong. you can hear the rumbling from that from our vantage point . and just so you know, we are five miles from the launch pad, and we are many more miles from where this rocket ship disassembled over the gulf of mexico. but clearly everybody here on the ground. leaves here feeling like they just witnessed one of the most historic events , space travel events in their lifetime. many people we've talked to here, guys, you know, they equate this to you know where they were when astronauts landed on the moon orbited the
6:43 am
moon for the for the first time they view all of this kind of in those historic space travel terms. so and we're on unbelievable day to be able to witness this here this morning. i love to see your joy at at this. you know that feeling of being a little kid? we were just looking at some video in john berman was also pointing out. if you look at it, you can see that it looks like some of the engines may not have been firing. there are 33 engines, and there were some dark holes in the bottom where you can sort of see the rocket going up. it is the largest heaviest. rocket that has ever been launched, and the reason why people were cheering is because it worked partially, but definitely add. you have the situation where this was supposed to be reused, and that's a whole lot of money crashing down there in south padre island in it. well, yeah, exactly. so you know, this is unscrewed from a safety standpoint, obviously not ready to put humans on board this rocket, and it was at that three minute mark into the launch,
6:44 am
where the heavy booster which is about 230. ft. long was supposed to separate from the starship rocket. and then the starship rocket was supposed to continue eastward around. the planet, almost a full orbit crashing into the pacific ocean around the state of hawaii clearly hasn't happened. this wreckage is now somewhere in the waters of the gulf of mexico this morning, so clearly still not a lot of work left to be done. but i think when you from the pros and the experts that know much more about space travel in this kind of technical work. they view this as a success. on monday and sunday night, elon musk was talking about he had lowered expectations to the point where you know, we thought we might be on the verge of scene is spectacular epic fireworks show on the launch pad. that's what he says he was most concerned about is just some sort of technical mishap on the launch pad that would cause him to have to rebuild the entire launchpad, which is a costly and really kind of slows things down, but so i think from
6:45 am
spacex perspective, clearing the launchpad getting out over to the gulf of mexico having it travel for as long as it did is probably considered a very remarkable achievement here this morning. you're looking at his video that they are feeding us of. just before the moment where it exploded. it was supposed to separate here. there was supposed to be a separation between the rocket itself. and then the spacecraft. separation did not happen. and then the explosion and the lower left hand side of your screen. you can see what miles o'brien was talking about the fact that of the 33 engines. there we go. there was the explosion right there of the 33 engines. that circle is gone. now you can see that six of them. at least miles was counting. work out. if miles is still with us right now, they just replayed the moment of the explosion itself, and you saw the entire spacecraft in a way miles doing these flips, but it's supposed to do some of those, but it's supposed to separate in the process. yeah
6:46 am
that that was not. that would be , uh, off nominal, as nasa might say, but i say that brief time. yes and for a brief time, seven of the engines were out so and they you know that these rapture engines are they can relight them. i believe they re lit them a little bit, but clearly that that affects the stability of the rocket. and maybe they couldn't. you know they had enough loss of rocket motors that they had a stability problem. you know when you when you're trying to get 33 rocket engines to all work in perfect synchronicity, that's that's a lot of things that have to go right? not just electronic lee, but also just sheer plumbing and pressurization, as we're talking about is very important. and so this is, you know, this is exactly why they do these tests. uh to get the data they need to make it better the next time, presumably so, you know, this is you know, elon musk is
6:47 am
successfully set the bar at a good place saying, hey, at least if the launch pad is intact, we'll call this a success. that's what i call, um, defining putting the bar exactly where you want to put it, or maybe a little lower, but you know, this will tell them a little bit more about how to make sure you like 33 engines at the same time and keep them going now whether it blew up because of some sort of error. dynamic stress on it as it tumbled. quite possible or if somebody actually pushed the self destruct button or maybe some combination. we should find out pretty soon. that's a great point, and i just as we wrap up, we're going to continue to follow much more of this just partial, successful success, partial failure. whatever it is , it's very cool to be able to see this kind of progress in this space happening in real time and live just i mean seeing the successes in partial successes is very cool to see miles. thank you so much lavandera having the best day of his life in south padre island,
6:48 am
as you should be, um, we're going to continue to file this is we're gonna be getting more information of what really happened in the details of it. and miles is going to help make it in english. for all of us. it's great to see you guys. we'll be right back after this. doublele check that that's prety gogood. yes crying. are you takg that? ? and what was that? that? no, don't worry about that. here we go. the right question can greatly impact your future qualified to do this. what specially when it comes to your finances. do you have a question? are you a certified financial planner? yes i'm a cfp. professional professionals are committed to acting in your best interest. that's why it's got to be a cft. find yr cfp professional it. let's me a plan .org meet stephanie and

6:53 am
they're out of gas. this is partly being attributed to panic buying after last week's major storm that dumped 20 inches of rain in the area. widespread flooding caused disruptions to operations of fuel terminals import everglades. officials are pleading that there is no need to panic. they say deliveries are up and running, and are expected to increase to a regular pace over the coming days. cnn's leyla santiago is at a gas station in miami, leila no lines there, but i understand there's a reason for that. right for this gas station in particular. let's take a walk. i'll show you exactly why that is. you see this board over here, you're going to see a lot of zeros. that's because they don't have anything but diesel here and i gotta tell you i've been checking in on some of the gas stations here this morning, and there has been an improvement in lines for those that do have yours. but yeah, like you mentioned according to gasbuddy about 60% still don't have your i mean, look right behind me. you see those pumps they are covered. right now, in a lot of the gas stations down
6:54 am
here now the state for its part, sent about half a million gallons of fuel down to southeast florida. they even had law enforcement escorting some of those fuel tanks. i have seen them myself coming and distributing some of that supply . but as you mentioned, john, you know, part of the problem here is that court everglades, which is a petroleum terminal was inundated last week. and that is what caused some of the delays in distribution. and as i have visited multiple stations over the last few days, i have seen the frustration seen and heard it because there's a lot of honking sometimes out here, and i want you to listen to what some of the drivers are telling me. just i'm hoping it'll be corrected soon. because this is ridiculous. you think enough is being done? no not for the demand that we need here. so you know, unfortunately, we're stuck waiting here. okay keyword that she used their demand, right?
6:55 am
this is a supply demand issue a in many ways and the mayor here and not just the mayor, a lot of officials urging people not to panic buy here because that is creating a demand issue, and they believe that once they get the supply moving if they can tamper down a little bit on that supply excuse me on that demand . they can get things to sort of normal normalize over the next few days. john and we are going to speak to the mayor in a little bit, leila. but if you take is empty, it's not panic buying. you need gas if you want the car to move, but i do understand there is concern that people are going when their tanks are half empty or nearly full. keep us posted. leila if that gas station you're at gets gas anytime in the near future, sarah alright. florida's board of education has now voted to ban teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity through high school, expanding the scope of the controversial law critics dub don't say gay but was behind the decision. and what lgbt q advocates are saying about it this morning, also a deadly tornado outbreak in oklahoma. a look at the widespread destruction from those tornadoes. that's next.
