tomorrow, president biden is expected to officially throw his hat into the ring and announce his re-election campaign and we are learning today that he spent the day huddling with adviser at camp david finalizing the plans. crisis in sudan and right now 16,000, 16,000 americans remaining in a country torn apart by violence. we have the very latest as the u.s. has evacuated all diplomats from the region. >> release from prison, the former minnesota police officer who says she mistook her gun for a taser and then shot and killed

building trade yun yon unions t and that is a key group that helped to elect him in 2020. and we are learning that the democratic sources are telling us that he is expected to name julie chavez rodriguez as the campaign member. she is one of the most senior advisers here at the white house and director of the white house's office of governmental affairs working with the state and local officials. and she is the granddaughter orf labor icon ceasar chavez and one of the few latinas to ever run a campaign, and so we will see if that announcement comes tomorrow as the president is coming closer to announce his re-election bid. >> and now, new polling for his team to consider, and can you
7:03 am
give us the idea of what that is? >> yes, sara, some of the challenges that the president would face are come into focus and this is the public perception of whether president biden should even be running for re-election. a majority of americans say he should not seek a second term and he is facing headwinds of the democratic party as more than half of democrats believe he should not run for re-election. looking at the concerns of those people who do not believe that president biden should run in 2024, 48% say that his age is a major issue. president biden is 80 years old and he would be 86 at the end of the second term if he were to win, and ultimately the advisers don't believe it will be an issue in the long run, and they believe he has a strong record to run on, but this is showing that it could be a challenge for the president as you are seeing the concerns from americans there. >> those are hard numbers for

7:05 am
listed there, and this is because they are polling in single digit, and these are the only ones in double-digits. and donald trump has a 15-point advantage over desantis, and looking ging at the wall stree, it is 15 percentage points. >> and how do the incumbants stack up? >> looking at the nonincumbent races and polls where similar where donald trump is polling near, at or above 50%, it is george bush and then al gore and hillary clinton in 2016, and what do all of the candidates do? they went on the win the nomination, and where donald trump is polling for nonincumbent race is strong and does correlate to go on the win the nomination. >> we have debated it in the past and it is up for debate how
7:06 am
much impact endorsements have on a presidential race these days, and you know, the endorsement game, and how is trump of 2024 doing stacked up to 2016? >> significantly better, right? in my mind based on these numbers the establishment candidate, and he has over 60 endorsements in the 2024 cycle from the congressional and gubernatorial candidates and in the 2024, it was only 15. >> and does it matter when it comes to donald trump? >> well, here is the thing to point out, kate. looking at the nonincumbants of the similar or same share, it is bob gore and john mccain and hillary clinton and they all
7:07 am

7:08 am
which is joe biden's age. the white house sees that. the democrats see it and hear it is not just in, you know, focus groups, but probably when they are going to the grocery stores and talking to regular constituents and that they have and it is not changeable and it is going to be the biggest hurdle when it comes to convincing voters that joe biden has and bigger hurdle than any presidential candidate has had, because historically, nobody has been as old as he is. >> when i hear from the biden insiders they emphasize that the contrast that they like the most is between joe biden and donald trump. now, i don't know how granular this campaign is, and i don't have a feel for it yet, but tomorrow when biden releases the announcement video, there is another trial for donald trump here in new york city. e.g. carol, and the trial for sexual assault and defamation launches then, and how much of
7:09 am
that contrast do you expect the biden campaign to lean into? >> you knows when it comes to donald trump and the legal situation that he is in, this could be happening any day, and it will be happening many days, because of all of the fronts that he is dealing with when it comes to the georgia investigation, the federal investigation, what we are seeing in new york on several issues. so, that is the reality. i think that if you asked the question of whether joe biden is going to be overshadowed, there is nothing that they can do about it, but what you are getting at, john, it is something that i have heard certainly the contrast of joe biden the quote, unquote normal politician versus a former president, presidential candidate who is running for re-election and dealing with a
7:10 am
civil trial that is essentially rape that is totally fine for them to have and you know that joe biden is a superstitious guy and part of the reason that the number was on the calendar and the goal was on the calendar for tomorrow is because it was the day four years ago that he announced. it is the month that barack obama with him on the ticket also announced for re-election, and so a lot of that is in play at the time in a place that joe biden is announcing formally. >> ron desantis overseas and what are the republican insiders looking at during this trip? >> they are looking at any indication that he can have a different kind of, of public facing candidacy. yes, he is not actually a candidate yet, and yes, he made that clear in his comments, sort of awkward response when he is in japan when he was asked about
7:11 am
being a candidate. the thing that republicans are looking for is for him to be looking confident and comfortable, and it is clear that donor class and the people who are being pold, they don't see it quite yet. >> dana bash, great to have you on this morning and your trip to poland and we were inspired by your reporting last week, and thank you for that. >> thank you for having us on, john. sara. >> and now, the evacuations in sudan as intense fighting threatens people, and plus the people in south florida condo have until tomorrow to get out after the officials said that the building is not safe. and chaos and confusion at twitter a after the ceo elon musk removes thousands of blue checkmarks and now people are wondering who is real and who is an imposter.
