rides to get out of the city, and we caught a truck transporting the people fleeing the violence to areas of safety outside of the capital and we ended up on the trucks with women of sudanese women, families and children fleeing and kind of cramped on the truck for maybe seven or eight hours, and they took us to a roadside shelter to escapement they brought us to a place to spend the night. and everyone was so, so nice. they helped us to give us food and place to stay and water and this morning we hitchhiked through wad madani, and the city is safe at the moment without fighting and for first time in actually i think nine days now, i have not heard the sound of a gunshot. so it is -- i'm in a good place now. i think.

president joe biden has officially launched the re-election campaign telling americans that he wants to quote finish the job and asking them to give him four more years to do so. after months of speculation, biden announced bid with a three-minute long campaign style video. in the video he says that he has spent the first years in office fighting for democracy and freedom and warning of extremism. today is symbolic for biden because it was exactly this day when he announced his run for president. we are looking for some signs is of where this economy is headed. chief business correspondent is here to tell us, christine romans? >> data palooza, and this is the first month that we are reading the stress in the banking

kate. >> from imminent to this summer, the attorney investigating former president donald trump's efforts to overturn the election in georgia has announced whether or not she is going to bring charges. in a letter to local law enforcement she brought to their attention the need for heightened security and preparedness ahead of the pending announcement. k katelin polanz has more. >> there is two pieces to this. one that fani willis is saying that the time line of the expected timing charges is going to be the back half of the summer announced between july 11th and september 1st, because she is writing the letters to local law enforcement to make sure they have time to prepare. that is one of the reasons why this seems to be kicked out so much further than what was

initially expected by the d.a.'s office when they said imminent charges coming, because there is a security concern here in the letter that there could be a significant public reaction to the charges as they are announced, and she mentions that there could be violence beyond what could be protected speech and protests. so that is one side of it. and the other piece of it is that there is a lot happening behind the scenes in the investigation. we know that special grand jury did a very significant amount of work bringing in lots of witnesses, and making recommendations, but even then the district attorney's office has gotten cooperators after a report that came in morning from my colleague sarah murphy and not only signing in co-op rays or the but bringing in additional evidence that the prosecutor need to look through to see if that is any part of the cases, but kate, all in all, this is not a simple matter, and we know from the grand jury and the special grand jury report as

it made its conclusions, that included more than a dozen charges, and potentially a dozen people charged in this. kate. >> yep, it is great to see you ka katelyn and super interesting. this morning ties of a donor and clarence thomas. there is report that harlan crow did have business before the court of clarence thomas, and so now, what can you tell us, because this is a new and important detail. >> right. it is putting the supreme court right back in the political spotlight and the place that it does not like to be. and it is relating back to the

pr propublica stories where clarence thomas had accepted mega deals from harlan crow and he had not disclosed them, and clarence thomas said that early in the tenure i had sought advice from my colleagues on the judiciary and they said that colleagues who did not have business on the court was not reportable, but what we are learning now is that a business related to crow did in fact have business before the court. it was being sued by a firm, the firm wanted the supreme court to take up the appeal and the supreme court ultimately didn't step in. so now this morning, spokespeople for harlan crow said that crow, himself, he was not directly involved in related company, and there was no direct involvement, but still it is

pointing out more of the spotlight of the ethics problems at the supreme court and more information of the relationship between these two men. >> there is a key democratic senator ron wyden who is looking into whether the luxury trips that crown took thomas on and a real estate deal between the two should have been disclosed on tax filings. what information is the senator asking for? >> right. so now you have this powerful democrat, and he is asking crow for a full accounting of all of the gifts, and he is questioning whether crow complied with the federal tax law. so that is a new interesting way that congress is getting in and this doesn't have to do with thomas' financial disclosures but it has to do with what crow himself disclosed. there are conservatives who say that all of the stories are coming up, because democrats don't like the direction of the

two chicago teenagers have been charged in connection to the crash that killed the 6-month-old baby. the teens were in a stolen car that slammed into the pickup truck that was carrying little christian. the teens have been charged with misdemeanors, but the family and some community activists say it is absolutely not enough. >> the funeral director suggested that we put balloons, because it will be the only balloons that he will'll ever receive. >> and we are joined now from chicago, and what is the family saying about the charges that are just put forth? >> sara, this is a family that is devastated. one family member said that as the charges stand now, it sends a message to those who loved christiana his life did matter, and their words and not ours, and so what are the charges.

a 14-year-old and 17-year-old and both teens are males and charged with one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to a vehicle, and this is after police say that the vehicle they were traveling in was stolen. take a look at the surveillance video. the surveillance video captures how fast these teens were traveling when they crashed into the pickup truck carrying christian and his mom and two sisters, and now members of the community are standing in the gap calling for additional char charges. >> the charges does not fit the crime. my message is to the state's attorney and anybody else who has hands on this case. what are you looking at? what are you feeling? how about first-degree murder, reckless homicide. >> i reached out to the state's attorney's office and they said they cannot comment on this case at this time, and chicago police tell us that the investigation
