are in shock as their city became the latest to suffer a mass shooting. some of the scenes were captured in a video which we have to warn you may be hard to watch. >> [ bleep ]. >> you see there people running for safety as the gunman opens fire. authorities say at least eight people were killed and seven were wounded. >> today is a tragic day for the city of allen. our citizens, our friends and visitors who were at the allen premium outlets today. we are a strong and caring community and we all want the victims and their families impacted by this tragedy to know that we will wrap our arms around you and we are here for you. the city of allen pledges to offer our complete support.

we know you are grieving. we are grieving. rest assured the nation and the world are also grieving. >> police say the gunman was killed by an officer who happened to be at the scene. when it was finally safe, hundreds of people exited the area many holding their hands up. cnn's ed lavandera is in texas with how the shooting unfolded. >> this is the scene of the deadly shooting that took place at the outlet mall in allen, texas, suburb north of texas. the area you see behind the lights pointing at us there is where we believe at least six of the victims were killed here in this shooting attack. from what we've been able to piece together speaking with witnesses, that was the area where the shooting attack happened. we're also told and we spoke with a witness who watched the very end of all of this shooting attack when an officer took out the suspected gunman.

we saw a woman who shared a picture of that final scene, showed the gunman laying on the ground wearing a tactical vest, an assault style rifle laying on the ground next to him. we are trying to figure out exactly who that gunman is. investigators at a press conference would not take questions as to what has happened. they only confirmed they believe the suspect acted alone and that there were eight victims in all, three of those in critical condition fighting for their lives tonight. ed lavandera, cnn, allen, texas. we're hearing details from the witness who saved people. >> we heard shots. we thought it was fire crackers. people ran straight to our door.

. the manager went out, people were running. >> my mom and i were in murphy's shopping and out of nowhere heard ten pops go off. i looked at the customer, was that gunshots? no, that's probably just construction. then heard 10, 15 more shots go off. i ran to the front of the store, no, that's shooting. there was a guy dressed in all black, he's shooting at -- he was at francesca's area. >> rushing to us and one was like, someone's shooting. someone's shooting. and there was another guy. he had blood just dripping down, you know? and then we went inside and i'm

like, go down, go down. then i heard three shots. cnn's jeremy diamond has the details. >> reporter: president biden has been briefed on the shooting in allen, texas. and additionally that the white house is closely monitoring the situation. white house officials have been in touch with local law enforcement and local officials to offer any potential support as well as federal officials as well. we look back at the previous statements that president biden has issued in the wake of these mass shootings. he is very quick to call for action. we are no longer in a phase where the president of the united states would see a what

he sees as the legislative shooting. he has said how many more americans must die before republicans take action. that is the statement they released after the shooting in louisville, kentucky. we have seen president biden quickly talk about the need for a ban on assault weapons, a ban on high capacity assault weapons and safe storage laws. what we've heard from president biden is he believes he has done all you can. republicans control the house of representatives. in the senate democrats have a slim majority. certainly not a filibuster proof majority to be able to move the kind of legislative solutions that they would like to see. >> earlier our law enforcement analyst charles ramsey spoke about the shooting and explained

what police are likely doing now in their investigation. here he is. >> we have eight dead not counting the shooter himself. we don't know a whole lot more than that because there wasn't a lot of information given at the press conference. you know, the type of weapon, we believe it was an assault weapon, but until that's really the question. how individuals got their hands on that type of weapon is something we have not jet been noeld told. police are going to be doing a lot of things right now, one, prosetsing a crime scene. very extensive crime scene. they're at the mall. as far as the shooter goefs, now

they're executing search warrants. you're trying to mirror the computer, get on their social media, see if there are any clues there. so there is a lot of work that's being done right now and it will continue throughout the night. in columbus, ohio, the police chief is condemning guns after shootings in the city. there were three separate incidents on saturday. he said guns are ending up in the hands of too many people. off duty police officer was shot and killed in chicago early saturday. the 24-year-old officer had just finished her shift. it happened in the city's south side neighborhood.

republican movements and a lot of support in government as well to remove king charles as head of state and go for an elected head of state. we saw that happening last year in barbados. king charles said that's absolutely the choice of local people, what they want to do. he did in the service to try to be as inclusive and diverse as he could. it was a christian event. white, hereditary monarch taking his position but he certainly has talked about how he wants to represent all of the u.k. and he sees protecting the diverse communities into the idea of monarchy. that's a long-term project. then there's just his

called for by the group republic that for long has opposed the monarchy. they don't want to see the coronation of another king. authorities close by. now what we've seen happen is a number of protest organizers have been arrested. they say that authorities didn't give them a reason for that arrest. hundreds of the not my king placards had been confiscated by authorities but what police have said is they've arrested seven people. four were arrested on suspicion

of conspiracy to cause public nuisance and three others were arrested, they say, for possessing articles that it could cause public damage. just days after a knew hard line nations. and what we had heard also from authorities saying they had very low tolerance for any disruption today. despite that, you can still see hundreds of protesters are still gathered. they're wearing yellow as was called for by the group republic. take a listen to what some of these demonstrators told us earlier. >> it's a huge amount of money taxpayers are paying. >> certainly for the protesters, they say they have managed to

shooting. it happened in allen, texas. a gunman opened fire in a mall and killed people. seven victims taken to hospital. some in critical condition. those who survived are speaking out about the trauma they experienced. >> loud banging like a couple of them. we thought something fell down outside the store. i went to check it out. it kept happening. >> and what store was that? >> escrow sneakers. >> what did you do after that? >> i got behind him. we ran to the back of the store. people were back there. everyone started freaking out. >> it was confusing. i saw him on the camera. the skinny, masked up. it looked like he was pretending to be a police officer. moscow is blaming ukraine

and several western nations for an apparent attack on a pro kremlin military blogger who lived 240 miles east of the area and he reportedly said he received his much -- there is a telegram channel with 300,000 bloggers. another was killed last month. ukraine has denied any role in that attack. meanwhile, russian mercenary leader is laying the ground for his possible pullout in bakhmut. he said his troops will withdraw by wednesday because of lack of amount munition.

atlanta police have released one of the 911 calls from a facility. the suspect is a 24-year-old military vet and he's in jail. his mother has apologized to the victims' families. we have details. >> police are coming through the 911 calls. we get a look at the scary and serious situation unfolding in the hospital. a place that anyone would have an expectation they were safe within. instead what we saw was an eruption of chaos and violence.

injured in a shooting. amy st. pierre, 38 years old, worked for the cdc. family called her a devoted mother of two. we have heard from authorities that two of the injured are in critical condition. the. and that shooting in atlanta put a spotlight on veterans mental health care with the suspect being a former member of the u.s. coast guard. late last month house republicans narrowly passed the bill that would temporarily spend or raise the federal deficit. some democrats claim this would lead to deep cuts including health benefits for military veterans. the white house says the department of veterans affairs would be devastated.

>> it makes deeply devastating and unpopular cuts to things like veterans benefits. there is no constituency that supports threatening to kill millions of jobs unless the v.a. is gutted. >> now house speaker kevin mccarthy pushed back. >> can you tell me where it does it? see, this is the damage that when people do not tell the truth about the bill, it actually goes to the funding where we were four months ago. if you look at back to the obama/biden budget that they passed for the next ten years, it actually spends more than what they proposed at this time. and the work of congress gets to decide where spending is, just like every family household. i'm very sad.

anywhere from 20 to 75% of our veterans have a need whether it's a military member or a veteran. they need and deserve care we should be able to provide for them. >> unfortunately, the statistics for suicide and suicide attempts is tragically enormous mochks veterans, right? >> the deep dive research, it's 44 a day. >> a day. >> a day. it's crazy how many people are so hurt by the service that they've given and that they're not getting the care that they need and they don't feel understood in the community. >> you spoke of a gap in the health care. where is the biggest gap exactly? >> we have a need for more providers, more mental health providers. that's both in the community and

in the people. they understand the culture, competencies and service connection. many of our veterans get care in the community. that's up to 60 to 80% and their families because families are a are -- they're saying they're going to gut the department of veterans affairs. republicans saying that's not true. do you have any insights on the possible effects of this bill? >> i know that we need to fund these services. i don't know the extensiveness of this bill and what it would do, but i think we need to add more funds for our veterans, not less. and while our veterans are getting some benefits and well
