in brownsville, texas, where the police are expected to give an update in the deadly crash involving several migrants. at least eight people are dead and several others are injured right now. a ton of questions right now this morning of why this happened. hopefully some answers will come in the next hour. this is what people, police say that we know so far. an suv plowed into a group of people outside of the homeless shelter and the horrifying moment was caught on surveillance camera, and the video is going to pause just before the moment of impact. but at the top of the screen, you will be able to see just how fast the suv appears to be going when it jumps the curb. nick valencia is live at the scene. you new video that you were able to obtain of some of the moments after the crash. what does it show? >> that is right. we have obtained it just about

24 hour since the incident happened and the first large group of migrants getting on the bus in the exact same spot where their friends in some cases were run over by this individual being investigated by the police. we wanted to share with you this exclusive video from ceasar who is a venezuelan international who said that some of the people killed were his friends, and he said that the driver appeared to be impaired and shouted obscenities from the migrants and as the driver tried to get away, some of the men came from the shelter to try to restrain this individual, and that driver according to romero said not to touch him, but this is part of the police investigation, and i talked to the brownsville police department who said they are launching a separate investigation to look into the potential assault charges on the man who appeared to be

assaulting this suspected driver, and they are expected to host a press conference where we will be hearing the preliminary charges against this driver, and the brownsville police department not telling me the charges and what they are, but they are looking at the crash in three different ways. one, it is caused by the driver being impair and the second that it was a malfunction or that the act was intentional. when i talked to the eyewitness earlier he said no doubt in his mind that this act was intentional. we want to be clear though that even though the police made reference to this being potentially an intentional act, they have not determined it with 100% certainty, but we expect to be determining this in the coming hours, but all of this with days leftt in the end of covid 42 to shutdown the migration flow, and that is going to make people in the community of brownsville of what that means and the amount of

but for the cop taking him down, how many more people could have been killed here. investigators are certainly looking into the motive, and i am told talking to law enforcement officers that he may have been motivated by right wing extremism, because on the shooter's chest after he was deceased found the letters rwds which they believe is right wing death squad which is the other incigna that other extremists have been seen over the years, and they are also digging into the social media and again trying to get to the motive. he is deceased and they can't interview him, but they are trying to find out what motivated him. he had extensive online presence, and he had neo-nazi and white supremist material. they believe he posted it himself. so there is a lot that we don't know at this hour, but the investigators believe that they are zeroing in on a possible

7:11 am
grievance and rage are the most concerning to the agencies as we prevent these attacks, and so it should not be surprising that we see this shooter engage in anti-semitic or racist white supremist sort of posts in the social media, and we know that because investigators have a lot of experience to do that and that is where we go. we should look to social media and execute the search warrants at his home, and look at the communications and electronics and the records and things of that t that nature and that what we will find. >> and now, that is what they have had to do so many times. and now, looking at the initials rwds and when i remember the last time i heard that it was on the proud boys and this is a picture of the proud boys with
7:12 am
that insignia with right wing death squad is what it stands for colloquially when you see it. and he was the first to plead guilty of the proud boys to seditious conspiracy and what does it tell you about this prevalence of this idea of the right wing death squad. it is a pretty horrible thing to put on your uniform or your body. >> it is obviously a disgusting insignia and it indicates some sort of really vile motivation, right. but i think it is also a really good example of what many scholars and extreme folks who track the extremism community refer to lately as the salad bar approach to extremist ideology. so in the past, and decades ago you had, you have always had the extremists in the country, but
7:13 am
they were very much kacabined io their own group like the kkk or the aryan nation and stayed to themselves, but with all of the extremist propaganda on the internet, what we are seeing is the extremist groups who take from the multiple pots, and they share some symbolisms with other groups, and then other ones they have come to their own, and so it is much harder to label or distinguish one extremist group as one ideology, because they pick what they like across multiple groups and multiple ideologies, and so that is sort of fueling each one of them in their own way. very dangerous, and also, it makes it harder for the law enforcement folks to stay on top of exactly who is doing what. >> yes, not a surprise that they are being radicalized online as
