president will have a seat at the table. volodymyr zelenskyy will arrive in hiroshima this weekend to speak with leaders of the world's largest economies. those nations just announced a major new round of sanctions targeting russia, and the united states is signaling a path forward to arm uscience with american-made fighter jets, something that volodymyr zelenskyy has been pleaded for for months. nic robertson is live for us in eastern ukraine. we also have marc stewart who's live in japan. how did this trip come about? and what is the message to the world leaders? >> well, zelenskyy's message, the one that is just tweeted, that he welcomes the united states what he called historic decision of president biden spoke support the use of f-16

planes. there's been an element of choreography leading up to this. just a couple days ago, europenian leaders were meeting in iceland. they jointly said they would help to initiate a group of international countries to help ukraine not only get the f-16s, but training for their pilots. this is sort of a continuum, if you will, of a discussion that's reached this very important point, and president zelenskyy's advisers have been saying it's extremely important that he is there at the g7, sitting face-to-face with the other leaders. he said very important things will be discussed there. it's important for president zelenskyy to be able to be there to give his clear arguments and clear proposals about those important things that are going to be discussed. zelenskyy will want to get a time frame on when his pilots

can be flying the f-16s in combat, the same way he did when the initiative was announced to provide ukraine with western tanks, the abrams, the challengers from the uk, the leopard 2 tanks. they're all taking the fight to zelenskyy. he wants to discuss how it's going to happen, no doubt how quickly. >> as you pointed out, nic, the time line is so critical. so it could be a major game for ukraine. marc, turning to you in hi rosh man, today's proceedings were laser focused on the war in ukraine. i'm wondering what new sanctions were announced against russia, could you outline those for you? >> reporter: right, boris. today's big focus was on the economics of the war, the

financing of the russia war machine and efforts to stifle its growth. that's why today g7 nations collectively brought up a whole new list, an agreement of new sanctions. they do vary by country by country. for example, the united states 300 new sanctions alone. the united kingdom will ban the import of russian diamonds as well as other metals, commodities. these are materials that bring a lot of money to the russian economy and helped it to fund the war. even australia getting involved, banning russian machinery, as well as other types of equipment. against, these are issues of agreement that the g7 can pretty much agree readily on. they knew there were some loopholes, something they felt was easy to attack first. the issues of diplomacy and procurement of aircraft, that's

from the lead negotiator, garrett gray, who said it was time to take a break. they were just not making progress. they needed to take a step back. just to remind everyone, house speaker kevin mccarthy had said he wanted a deal in hand by the end of this week in order to get it through both the house and also the senate in a timely matter as we come up on that june 1st deadline. the white house said that talks will be difficult, but they remain committed to a bipartisan solution to all of this. at this moment in time, on friday afternoon, there's just a pause. everybody is taking a beat to try to come back to the table. here's what we heard from house speaker kevin mccarthy is few moments ago. >> well, we have to get moving. >> reporter: the tone seemed optimistic yesterday? >> yesterday i felt we were at

the location to where i could see the path. the white house is just -- we can't be spending more money next year. we have to spend less than the year before. >> reporter: the over-arching issue, brianna, remains that the democrats want a clean debt ceiling bill. they just want to vote on that. republicans have already passed their priorities out of the house. that bill is not going anywhere in the senate where democrats have the majority. they want cuts tied to raising the debt ceiling. that's at the heart of this. they are trying to find some common ground to strike a deal. remember, kevin mccarthy is working with just a four-vote margin in the house. there are a number of far-right representatives who have said they will not vote for anything less than the bill they passed, which is not getting passed. it's truly a numbers game. they are trying to find ground with performing reform, calling

back covid funds, maybe some medicaid work requirements, but they have a long way to go. >> watching these folks play chicken, as they are, with the debt ceiling here. jessica dean, thank you. the alleged pentagon documents leaker is expected to appear in court. a federal judge outside boston will decide if jack teixeira should remain in custody ahead of his trial. they are baffled by the many red flags that his superiors list. they warned teixeira repeatedly about the mishandling of classified documents months before his arrest, but kept him in his job. jason carroll is outside the course in worcester. first, i want to ask you what's going on in court, what will be decided in court, and then i want more details on what they learned about these past

warnings. >> reporter: of course. of course. jim, clearly the judge in this case has a lot to consider. he's been taking his time with this. you can see why. just this week newspaper information coming into the court about this particular case. first, when you look at the disturbing video that's now come to light, the video showing teixeira firing a weapon, using racial slurs. prosecutors once again say this goes to this young man's character. in addition to that, the court said news information just this week, showing that teixeira, on three different occasions, tried to access classified information. you're looking at one particular situation, according to prosecutors, he got access, took notes about it, put the notes in his pocket. a supervisor saw what had happened, and had admonthished him for what he was doing. this raises all kinds of

questions would you say the air national guard didn't do more to relieve him of his duties. after he was admonished, he went on to brag about it. prosecutors say teixeira said the following online -- i told you guys i'm not supposed to -- i can type all of this, but barely can get through a two-page college paper. it shows to his character. prosecutors going on the weight of the evidence against the defendant has only grown stronger. the risks of the defendant poses, if released, only comes into sharper focus. the defense says this man did not pose a threat. he should be released into his father's custody. they showed several examples of other defendants charged with espionage, who were let out on

the surge of migrants has reached critical mass in new york city. dozens of women and children arrived there to receive care and assistance. the hotel is providing 175 rooms to start. additional rooms will open for migrants who will be going to other locations, though city leaders are warning they will soon run out of the space and money. mayor adams said the city has now scared for more than 65,000 asylum seekers. polo, i understand we have live images of a bus that just arrived to help transfer some migrants. what happens once the families actually arrive there to the hotel? >> reporter:, just across the street directly outside of what's being run as an asylum

suspicion this could be encephalitis. then you get different tests, a scan, mri to see if there's evidence of inflammation. you can get an eeg, and a lumbar public further to look at the fluid bathing the spinal cord. it's a tough diagnosis. it can be very hard to bounce back from, especially someone who is older. the fever and headache may go away, but the other symptoms, like the mental difficulties, they may linger for a longer period of time. >> what about ramsey-hunt syndrome? >> a lot of people know what shingles is. if you had chickenpox, the virus that cause that is on which times lace do you remember president in the body, and then reacted as an adult. it can happen anywhere in the body. sometimes that virus can affect

while airlines were largely to blame, a lat of controllers at one key faa facility in florida was behind nearly 5,000 of those delays. the faa knew it was responsible for some of the problems. pete muntean joins us. what percentage of those delays were? how big of a piece was behind this? >> in the seven-week period through hundreds of pages, cnn learned that that was responsible for about one in every ten flight delays nati nationwide. last year was the summer of the meltdown. 55,000 cancellations, about a half million delays. so the blame game was interesting here. the biden administration there are secretary buttigieg, the head of the faa, were trying to

slough off the blame on the airlines, mostly shortages of flight crews and others, but really, really, we have uncovered that this was partially, at least, to blame on the faa, and the shortage you mentioned. jacksonville center is a linchpin, where all flights coming into and out of florida. we're talking like 210,000 square miles of airspace. they are short staffed 200 shifts, 4600 delays. it was a really big impact here. >> so the transportation secretary on this program as well, we spoke to him a couple weeks ago, they're trying to fill these slots, train these people up, in effect. is that underway to get thinks empty controller slots filled? >> this is why the new reporting is so critical and comes right now. the faa is scrambling to fill
