records in the stormy daniels case. >> reporter: march 25 of next year for former donald trump's criminal case involving hush money payments made to stormy daniels. the trial will fall in the middle of the republican 2024 presidential primary season. during a brief hearing tuesday the judge told trump and his lawyers that they can't accept any commitments personal or professional that could present the duration of the trial. trump appeared by the video conference sitting next to his attorney. it was his first visit to this courtroom after pleading not guilty last month to 44 counts of falsifying business records. the judge explained to trump the protective order barring him and his defense team from sharing evidence turned over by

prosecutors on social media. the judge making it clear he is not imposing a gag order saying he has no way of impeding trump's ability to campaign or publicly defend himself as he makes another run for the white house. despite another day of supposedly productive talks on raising the debt ceiling, kevin mccarthy has told fellow republicans that there is still nowhere near a deal with the white house. republicans and democrats are getting restless and more vocal and the deadline draws closer. >> and jerome powell spoke to house democrats on tuesday saying once the current impasse is over, he will share his own ideas on how to prevent the same problem in the future. but a new wrinkle in the negotiations is growing as the growing group of republicans who don't believe that janet yellen or her june 1st default

futures, they are down but only slightly. the markets closed lower on tuesday with fears slowly creeping in having been seemingly unaffected on the deal for the debt ceiling but that could change. inflation in the uk is now below 10% for the first time since august. new government figures put it at 8.7%. >> still economists had expected a more significant drop and expect more interest rate hikes from the inflation bank. the drop was driven in part by lower gas and electricity prices but food prices continue to rise next month. extreme wind warnings are in effect for northern guam as t typhoon mawar is battering the

island. britley ritz is joining us. what impact are we expecting? >> we're already seeing some of the worst conditions. we once had an eye, it has deter deteriorated, it is trying to regain its strength. you can't really see it, but the center of the low itself just north of guam. so some of the strongest winds would be right over the soirn island and heaviest rain would sit right over guam. winds gusting over 160 miles per hour, it is starting to pick up speed a bit moving northwest at 8 miles per hour. regardless it is still crawling, so that is also a big factor in how much rain we're about to get and the damaging wind threat that is about to happen with the storm surge. so the northerly track starting to take effect.

it will restrengthen and become likely another super typhoon. so there is the wind shifting now to more of the westerly side the of the island. with that being the case, we'll likely have higher storm surge than originally thought. over 20 feet of storm surge and 6 to 10 on the eastern side. and we've already lost the data, some of the sensors like andersen air force base gone. i can't even give you a wind reading. but gusts over 98 miles per hour coming into where the radar once was. heavy rain still expected to come here. it will stay right over the southern part of the island where we can pick up over 20 inches of rain. isolated higher amounts are possible especially within the eyewall. we could have 7 inches per hoyer

in -- hour when itit comes on sho. we don't have a landfall at the moment, we're waiting on the national weather service in guam. >> and kristie lu stout is joining us. how are they preparing? >> reporter: conditions are getting worse and preparations have been in place as the storm is bearing down on the u.s. territory fwaum and it is delivering a triple threat of devastation, that is the language being used by the national weather service of guam. and that means rain, winds, storm surge that will pose a major risk to life and property. flash flood warning is in effect for the entire island which is home to about 150,000 people. we're learning that power supplies are dwindling. they say it can provide energy to only 1,000 of its 52,000

customers. and that the hospital is running on a generator. tuesday the island entered what is called a condition of readiness or core one. the governor of guam urged residents to stay indoors. military personnel have been instructed to shelter in place. and we're monitoring the situation at the international airport. you can just look at the website, dozens of flights have already been canceled or delayed ahead of the landfall. this storm a number of visitors and residents who perhaps had travel plans are stranded and they will have to wait and sit through the storm. help is on stand by. joe biden already issued an emergency declaration. and the national guard posted on twitter saying always ready, always there, guam national guard members are ready to

respond to super typhoon mawar. it is no longer a super typhoon but it will remain intense. and another u.s. state has moved to restrinktsct women's reproductive rights. south carolina have a ban as early as six weeks. >> and the controversial legislation heads to governor mcmaster's death to sign it into law. >> i was reading a study from the university of california and they conducted a recent survey and one in three women confirm their pregnancies after six weeks and one in five after seven week and younger people were likely to confirm later. and also people of color. so it does discriminate against marginalized groups.

social media and mental health. the u.s. surgeon general said thoo research points to negative aspects like bullying, low self-esteem. here is more from the u.s. surgeon general. >> on average teens are spending 3 1/2 hours a day on social media. that is average. many kids are spending much longer than that. but the data shows when they spend more than three hours on average, they have double the risk of anxiety. and there are more concerning facets, but what we have to understand is that it is urgent that we take action to protect our kids and make sure that their experience on social media is safe. >> the report says 95% of 13 to

17-year-olds in the u.s. more than social media, more than one third say they use it almost constantly. and despite age limits, 40% of 8 to 12 year olds would lose it too. >> and if they reduced their youth, mental health improving. >> and of course it is common sense. and a new report from the illinois says more than 450 adult catholic clergymen ob b abused children over 90 years. more than a third of those were previously undisclosed. >> it was the survivors who gave purpose and drive to this

investigation. absent their current and willingness to come forward and discuss their experience, there would be no true investigative report. >> the attorney general's report recommends more coordinated investigations of abuse and for update to alleged abuses. two teenage boys died in a crash as protestors reportedly accused involvement in the crash. authorities say that they have received cctv footage that shows a police vehicle following a bike ahead of the serious collision. more arrests are expected. this is not doing much to instill trust in the police.

>> yeah, we don't know for certain, but the search method is quite interesting because from what we've seen so far with the long lens cameras, maybe more than a dozen police officers and they are producting the ground with sticks. they did actually find something they say, some material that will be analyzed would by exper. the prosecutor in germany insists that the search effort is not in vain. listen. >> translator: measures in portugal are related to the madeleine mccann case. this means that we are investigating on the basis of certain decisions. i cannot disclose the background at the moment would we hope to find. that is to remain our secret for the moment. >> the police have never searched the reservoir itself

surge and damaging winds. cnn has learned from multiple defense officials that senior u.s. general ordered to announce on twitter that leader has been targeted but not confirming who was killed. oren lieberman has the story. >> reporter: the drone strike targeted a senior koal qaeda leader. spen cent com say partially there are no u.s. troops in northwest syria who can investigate, so a process that would take time.

but multiple officials say even in the hours after the strike, the commander of u.s. central command ordered the tweet out saying that the u.s. had targeted senior al qaeda leader in northwest syria. still as we wait on more information from cent com, cnn has spoken to the family of the casualty who say he was a 56-year-old farmer with ten children and no of a fill affiliation. 23 there is still some belief that member of al qaeda may have been killed, but not as high as it was when the strike was taken. part of the issue is the timing. the strike itself was on may 3. on may 8, they presented information suggesting that civilian had been killed and

then the civilian assessment from the military happened a week after that. depending on the conclusion of that assessment, it may lead to a more formal investigation into the process behind the strike. this whole process as it played out is almost stunningly similar to the strike in kabul that it took. a strike that killed ten civilians including several children. at first the u.s. military and pentagon defended the strike saying it had killed a member of isis-k. but cnn found issues with the narrative and spoke to family members of the casualty there and u.s. forced to walk it back and acknowledge there it was civilians killed there. lloyd austin ordered a review of the process there and more processes were put in place. the pentagon spokesman was asked if he felt the policies were

still followed and he said that the secretary has confidence that they are. so the question is will there be calls for culpability. and russian course has extended the detention of evan gershovich until august 30th. the u.s. embassy in moscow said it was deeply concerned by the court's decision. gershovich's employer issued a statement saying it was deeply disappointed. the biden administration continues to call for his release. >> he shouldn't be detained at all. journalism is not a crime. he needs to be released immediately. that is still the administration's view and we're still going to work hard if we can get him home where he
