within hours of getting back. lauren fox, standing by on capitol hill, and you just heard from speaker kevin mccarthy, and what did he say? >> he is optimistic that a deal can come together very soon, but he noted there are still some outstanding sticking points. he said they made progress last night, and hoping to make more progress this morning. he met by bike with derrick graves to talk about how the conversations are going. there are sticking points on the work requirement, and i tried to push him if if white house is trying to add some requirements on the work requirements. that is one element. but he underscored, this is always about spending. to making sure that the government is spending less than hit did this year. he also noted that there is some

conservative pushback, and pressed on why that is, and if he is concerned about it, and he said that part of the reality is that there is a small number of people in the room, and a small number of people who know the contours of the negotiation as it is happening, and that is why you are starting to see the pushback, but we should note that the concern from conservatives and democrats is real. and also, lawmakers from both side of the aisle is saying that they are working hard to get there, and he did not make any promises, but if there is a deal, it still has to have the votes in the house of representatives, and you have to thread the needle to find the middle ground to get to the votes that you need, john. >> it is a good point, lauren. everybody is obsessed if there is a deal, and once it is reached, tonight, tomorrow, and then people start to count the

you hearing now? >> we are getting the latest from the fa, and they have implemented a ground delay program for flights going into san francisco, and meaning that the flights going into san francisco are held on the ground because of the low cloud ceilings, and we are hearing of delays in tampa, fort lauderdale, and likely a ground stop there later on, and likely flights going to denver. it is a smooth start and though it might not be smooth for long. the numbers here are huge, and that is why it is a huge test for airlines around and the numbers are 2.66 million people screened nationwide by tsa, and that is the largest number, and bested a six days prior. so we are on pace to beat the tsa estimate, the 10 million people that would travel through the airports nationwide thursday

and memorial day. the big tip is if you could come back late, that is the best thing to do and move your flight to tuesday or maybe wednesday. what is really interesting here, kate, the airfares are down for a memorial day trip. $276 is the average round trip according to travel site hopper. different story though when it is coming to the international flights, because those are up big time. people put off the plans in the pandemic, and the average international flight this weekend is $1,300, and that is a 15% increase compared to last year. fo folks be really big crowds here at reagan international airport
