ramifications of these 37 criminal indictments, against former president donald trump, would you expect the trial will take place given the federal district judge assigned to the case of these for now is eileen cannon, who was appointed by trump and previously widely criticized for ruling in his favor and what is trump's legal jeopardy when it is eventually heard quick >> is legal jeopardy is very real, some of these counts carry with them decades in federal prison, this is a very serious indictment, and if the department of justice is able to convict on even half of the obstruction charges here, the former president is facing serious time in federal prison, i'm avoiding a question of exactly when it will happen, that is really up to a federal judge's discretion in terms of how quickly or quickly or

will, always a possibility that she engages in some rulings and has done rulings that are just legally baseless like her decision the special master case, could you appeal up to the 11th circuit and say i'm looking at the case law, this is a judge who really needs to recuse herself, absolutely. what i will also say is i really do believe that the assignment he was random, there were a lot of factors that would indicate that she could get this particular assignment, in part because there are number of judges down still, let's go back to our conversation about how important it is for the presence to fill the judicial vacancies. does it make a mockery of the system? if she continues to rule the way she did the special master case, working it was baseless, you didn't see any conservative legal scholars supporting her really and the decision was overturned by the 11th circuit,

we have to wait and see a little bit. >> and ron, as you mentioned, we've seen many republicans rally around trump since these criminal charges were made public, but some republicans as you rightly point out, have not most notably, chris cristi and asa hutchinson, how will that impact the aspirations, and what you american voters think about the historic criminal charges of a former president? >> obviously in the early stages of this, a majority outside the republican coalition believe that is an issue, the way he has the classified documents, the fringe of the republican race, hard to see how they get to be central contenders, but for the

other republican candidates, closer to the center of the race, ron desantis and tim scott and nikki haley, mike pence, the challenge they have here, saturday afternoon when donald trump was speaking in georgia, his argument was that the deep state is coming after me because they know i am the only republican candidate strong enough to stand up against them on your behalf, in effect by echoing his vitriolic claims that he is being pursued by a lunatic deranged, marxist prosecutors, his words, the other republicans are essentially validating his argument, and and if in fact he is they are being the position of saying that, the deep state is going after donald trump, but you should nominate me anyway, at some point as we said before, is a former president with a big lead in the polls, you have to give

the southeast, yet they are staying silent on whether they are conducting a full-scale counteroffensive. ukraine's deputy defense minister says its armed forces recaptured three villages in the donetsk region. and they are wanting the forces they should expect the pressure to intensify soon. russian forces are pushing back, claiming to have destroyed some ukrainian weapons and equipment. bringing us the latest from ukraine. >> it certainly seems as though ukraine's offensive operations are gaining steam, on sunday they said they took back several villages from the russians, most of that happening in the southeastern part of a very long front-line in the country, and that comes after things seemed to got off to a rocky start at the end of last week with the russians posting a couple of videos claiming to have destroyed a lot of armor, western armor and what they said were field operations by the ukrainians to try to gain territory in the southern part of ukraine.

ukrainians are still not calling this their big counteroffensive, there were some indications by the ukrainian president this weekend saying they had gone to defensive counteroffensive operations but however on sunday the head of ukraine's military intelligence came out and posted a video of himself just sitting in his chair and being silent, saying plans love silence, they don't want talk about a big counteroffensive if indeed it is underway. one of the things that is clear that in this country the ukrainians have the initiative, no place where the russians seem to be making gains but places where the ukrainians are trying to make gains, one of them is in bachmud, after several days of gains after they say it has been significant, here in ukraine. joining me now live from

london, clare sebastian, what more are you learning about the liberated villages and what it means for ukrainian troops? figure ukraine is claiming one more village in the same area this morning, if we can pull up the map again it shows clearly the potential strategy here, these villages are the front line, you can see the edge of the russian held territory in the red, really at the point where it is the narrowest strip of land linking ukrainian controlled areas with the sea, and the assumption has been, as we've watched the lead up to the counteroffensive, that ukraine would try to cut the gains in half and cut off the land to crimea, the taking of small villages, they are pretty small i would note, would fit with that potential strategy of cutting off the gains, the lands to crimea, something to watch, as we move forward, it's worth noting, the evidence we are collecting from these

reports say ukraine is not limiting itself to one axis, for the eastern armed forces they say they're still counterattacking, they are taking advantage of the rotation of wagner and russian general forces, not part of a broader offensive they say, a video put out by the ukrainian forces, they say was the destruction of the russian tad tank, really almost of the northernmost part of the front line in the region of kharkiv, we can verify the date of that, but it does seem like fighting is taking place along the hundreds of miles, russia is claiming to be destroying ukrainian western provided equipment, and not admitting to retreat in any area. still evidence of infighting,

one of the philippines most active volcanoes that started to erupt, spewing sulfuric gas and lava over the past day, and forced nearly 13,000 people to evacuate their homes in the southeastern part of the nation's largest island. christie is following the story, joining us now, what is the latest on the volcano and of course the evacuations of residence from the danger zone? >> the lava starts to flow from the volcano, nearly 30,000 residents. haven't evacuated, and authority say at least 88% of the local population have already been moved to safety,

working to move the rest to evacuation centers. they've been spewing the sulfuric gas and hot lava in the past 24 hours or so, and the video from sunday evening, will bring it up again for our viewers, you can see it, the glowing crater of the volcano, hot lava and glowing rock flowing, and there is a possibility for dangerous explosive activity and a parameter is in place. any entry into a six kilometer radius of the volcano, 3.7 miles, has been prohibited. no major industries around this volcano, but there is some subsistence farming there, and local officials in addition to evacuate the 13,000 residents have evacuated 10,000 farm animals as well. whispering of the map where you can see it is located, in the province, in the southeastern part of the

the fed has been aggressively raising interest rates since march of last year hoping to calm inflation, but it has signaled it might skip a hike this month to assess more data and see how the previous increases are working. interest rates are now at their highest level in more than 15 years, but last month strong jobs report also complicates things and could prompt the fed to make a modest move, even if it chooses to skip raising rates this month, it could go right back to hiking rates again in july. >> ryan patel, senior fellow at the school of management at claremont university, joining us from amsterdam. appreciate you being with us. >> great to be with you. >> what you think the federal reserve will do on wednesday, hit the pause button or raise interest rates for the 11th time in a row, what do you think? >> i need to find a pause button, they really need to hit the pause, they are leaning

towards that, the markets are baked in, the last three days, acted very positive, the fed is going to do that, part of the reason is they will most likely later raise again. to give a little bit of a break and see the data further, to be more hawkish in the end, a great point to pause to give a little breathing room based on what we've seen the last couple of months and what the economy has gone through. figure interesting you say that, pause now but raise a little later, what exactly does the federal reserve look for when the board makes a consequential decision like this, whether to raise interest rates and by how much, what's the critical economic data that signaled to them that they need to act? >> a couple of things. a historical basis, continuing to remain very low, the labor growth market, and the wages

continue to rise, think about the consumer price index, going to see the new data, which is going to be really important in a couple days, part of the pauses to see the data and to see if inflation continues from when it comes to the shelter, and housing and food, they are watching and looking for, start considering to be resilient. being resilient behind it. >> markets very happy if the fed decides to hit the pause button, at what point does become an over correction, how does the fed know when it is close to that point? >> that's a great point, we've been talking about this, the stickiness of the point, where the needle is, if you do too

much, i can cause that aspect, the banking crisis and the debt ceiling, all these things kind of teacher rain, the stability for the fed, if they deposit, it shows signals that the fed is paying attention to the other variables. they are going to be aggressive, i'll be honest, they will be hawkish and aggressive, nothing changing, they will continue to look to do that even though they're taking a pause, that's an important factor, i don't want anyone to lose the fact that they are not going anywhere, 2% inflation number which is a very long way of being hopeful but i don't see them being as aggressive as the past. >> how much has it, the sector products -- having the impact on the fed this week?>> i think it did scare them, jerome
