moments ago, the man accused of helping donald trump move an conceal secret documents at mar-a-lago walked into a miami courthouse. he is being arraigned on federal charges, and we are live at the scene. >> the man who turned on pew tipp and stunned the world with the brazen rebellion may now be in russia. the president of belarus saying that if yevgeny prigoshin was in belarus, but now he is telling another story. and the launch of a new app called threads and minutes in, it has millions of users. with john berman and sara sidner, i'm kate bolduan, and this is cnn "news central." so, happening now, the man accused of helping donald trump hide classified documents is
8:02 am
inside of a federal courthouse in miami, and according to the judge's schedule, he is being arraigned right now, and you are looking at the chaotic moment in the last hour when walt nauta was greeted by journalists. he is expected to plead not guilty to several channels including conspiracy to deceive the fbi. at a time when 64 boxes were moved, only 30 were brought back. carlos suarez just is out ooid of the time and we believe that is arraignment is happening right now. give us an update. >> yes, john, that is right. so nauta did arrive this morning and joined by d.c.-based
8:03 am
attorney stanley woodard, and nauta did not say a word as he walked out of the suv and into the courthouse. cnn has learned that he has added a south florida-based attorney, sasha nadan and she is a former florida expording with this sepation. as you noticed, john, he is expected to plead not gill toe obstruction and lying to investigators. the arraignment is expected to last a few minutes. according to prosecutors, he mo moved at trump's mar-a-lago resport. he moved them from one place to another, and then he lied about it. the move is an effort so that one of trump's attorneys would
8:04 am
not be able to find some of the classified documents that had been subpoenaed by a grand jury. now, the prosecution, the prosecutor, the federal government sis they have surveillance video of nota moving the, bos before the fbi searched the property. nauta as you noted as well is a personal aide to the former president. he was here when the former president was ar raped, and however, because he was not able to get a south florida-based attorney, he could not enter a plea. and then bad weather kept him from making it to south florida the first time. but, john, we believe that walt nauta is being arraigned on the charges, and we have team inside of the courthouse getting us this information and the details coming out of the hearing, and when we get that, we will pass it on.
8:05 am
>> carlos suarez, and we will get a readout of what took place inside of that courtroom as soon as it is available. sara? >> another arraignment coming after new details were revealed in the documents kay. they said that prosecutors watched surveillance video before they ever ener and the searched trump's mar-a-lago residence, the documents were heavily redacted, but it says that they watched video of them moving boxes. and katelyn polantz is joining us, but it says that not every single details of how he is charged? >> exactly, sara. what we are seeing from last summer when a federal judge worked to preserve that search warrant to go in there to preserve the documents, and that
8:06 am
document last summer is telling much of the story that we also see in the indictment about walt nauta, and what he is accused of doing about the obstruction, and the false statements that he is accused of making to the fbi. he is not named as an apparent witness, because he had been talking to fbi around that period of the summer of that last year, but all of the details that we are seeing in the affidavit that is released and now that the affidavit is out, and the search is what is needed at this team, and they had talked to watt nauta, and there were boxes that they had surveillance of him moving boxes at mar-a-lago, and realized that federal prosecutors were seeing the boxes in the storage room, but they knew that there should have been more there, and they wrote in the affidavit to the
8:07 am
junl, but subjects confirps boxes were moved recently, and moved from the storage area, and not known for et. so, that is saying that we need to do the unpredented search and see if there is a case that can be charged. ultimately, they did charge that case, and this is why walt nauta is in court today of south florida. >> we will give you the details in court when the reports can get out of court, and when the arraignment is over. >> thank you. kate? >> ta talk more about this is u.s. attorney michael moore. okay. michael nauta, and your take on what you think about this role that we are learning more about that he may have had in the documents investigation, and the case that prosecutors have been?
8:08 am
>> well s, now, this is standar part of the process, that he is going to plea not guilty and go on with the rest of the case. this is going to be par with the case whether evidence is lost, misplaced and not available for the judge to go ahead to issue the warrant, and the evidence, and that seems to be okay for the ish sure here. and then i would say, what interest that is a small number that clearly means that the documents will be what the government needs to talk about as far as what is in the box and
8:09 am
being moved, and claim that somebody is secreting the move and being evidenced of what is in the box, and this is a key as they move forward. we will see. this is clearly going to be another building block in the government's case in whether or not it is enough to ultimately take down a former president, we will see. >> and just as you were speaking, we have news from the courtroom that the hearing is over, and it lasted two minutes, michael. walt nauta pleaded not gill, and as anticipated quick, and in and out before they could say much more, and now the process continues. but, as you are talking about in this, if nauta is seen on video moving dozens of boxes, and they have to prof what in those boxes
8:10 am
and that he lied to the defense, and then what will happen? >> well, that is what will be the thing that trips people up is that he told a lie to a federal law enforcement agent, and that is a big deal. so he will want to come in, i expect, and say something to the effect that, look, i am the valet, and i move boxboxes, and have no idea what you talk about, and for what i know, i thought that it was golf shoes, and i have no idea what it was, and i will try to do what i do all of the time, and move things all of the time. and so maybe he has the interest of one juror in the time, and
8:11 am
that one juror can hang a juror, and that is what it s. and the two-minute arraignment is the shortest thing in the case, because now we get into the issue of the pretrial motion, and we're going to have likely appeals up, and rulings that are made, and so this is case is now -- >> well, michael, now, you say that one of the biggest things that challenging the tough reality of where this heads is the calendar, and not just for nauta, but the former president as well, and why? >> well s, there is a long-standing policy with the department of justice that they are not meddling in election, so six weeks or so that the government stands down on cases so it does not tend to favor one side or another, and that there is some preference who might win the election, but in this case, we are now talking about a trial
8:12 am
based on the late of the year, and you have the presidential primaries in the beginning of february, and the government has to do something to make the appearance they are not trying to knock trump who enters this case with a presumption of innocence. so they have to do everything that they can to show that they are not trying to knock him out of the election by make him sit in the trial and in on evidence, and that why think that the case won't happen after e , and we are

a new government study finds that nearly half of the tap water in the united states is contaminated with what are called forever chemicals. scientists believe they may be more hazardous to our health than previously thought. cnn's jacqueline howard is with us now. what exactly are we talking about here? >> what we're talking about, forever chemicals are basically pfas chemicals, and they are part of items that we encounter every day. like you can find them in nonsticking cooking pans or in fast food containers. and they're called forever chemicals because they break down very slowly. now for this new study that just came out, what researchers did, they analyzed tap water samples from more than 700 sites across the united states. those samples included private
8:52 am
wells, public sources, and they found about 45% of water samples contained pfas chemicals. and they noted that most of these samples containing pfas were in or near big cities and near urban areas. and this isn't meant to scare people, but it's more so to raise awareness about how really prevalent these chemicals are. and we know that they have been linked to certain cancers, to thyroid disease. there is ongoing research looking into the public health implications here. but one takeaway for all of us, one way to reduce your own exposure to pfas chemicals would be to use a carbon filter for your water at home, or there are tests you can purchase on line or from certified labs to test your own water. we know that public utilities are doing a lot of work in this. epa is doing a lot of work in this. but these are forever chemicals, so that work will take some time, take some resources. but john, that's the takeaway is
