9:09 pm
just a couple of weeks ago there was an armed uprising of course in russia and i suppose the ironic thing is that the more cloistered the russian president becomes. the more cut off he is from the rest of the country, the greater those threats become. so he is in an increasingly difficult situation. >> at the, chance i appreciate that. from the prigozhin mystery, today's nato news from steve hall, former chief of russia operations to the cia. currently cnn national security analyst. also cnn military analyst, retired general mark hurly. general, when you hear that prigozhin met with vladimir putin. again, this is from the kremlin spokesperson. from peskov. so take it with a grain of salt. but even the top leadership, top generals of the wagner group. does that surprise? >> anderson, we have got to consider the fact that we have

9:11 pm
get away from the wagner group. so there is confusion within the force. >> it was june 24th that putin called the leaders of the rebellion, which would include prigozhin, traders on television. now the spokesman is saying five days later on june 29th that he met with prigozhin. and then they on russian state television are putting out all of the video of the raids on prigozhin's property looking at his money and the guns he has. which hyacinth comes with the kremlin stamp of approval to be out there trying to tear him down as a populist. how do you read all of this. anderson, i think the best way to read it is looking at the target audience for these individual activities. it does not really matter whether or not this ridiculous meeting happened or not. and by the way we do not have any confirmation except from mr. peskov who is well known for not stating the truth.
9:12 pm
but it doesn't matter. it is the message putin and the kremlin want to get out. there is great concern in the kremlin, and certainly with putin himself that prigozhin actually might have gotten a grip, or somehow found a could niche for himself and side of the russian population. remember the themes that he was talking. about my boys are being killed. they do not have a glance and ammo. regardless of the fact that he was using them as cannon fodder. >> that's something that the russian people care about. we saw that two decades, ago when -- and the church and situation was going down, and the mother of those killed servicemen, started to protest and that, streets and it was a serious. problem they have to do something about that. what they do is they say, look, putin was basically acting as dad between the military defense, and prigozhin, and it's all going to be okay because now he's in control. that does not mean that he is not watching this, carefully and what have they learned? they learned that you can basically have a military attack almost on moscow, and get away with it. not get immediately killed, which is true, get a meeting with putin. i think it depends on which -- you are looking at to get an idea as what's message is being transmitted. >> on the military,
