is here. >> i will give it a try. >> the question is a couple things can be true. that was a good number yesterday. yet, it is pretty to work through. places are still high the american people have not responded when you look at polling in terms of how people are feeling. what is your take away for the tangible impacts when it comes to inflation? >> this was an incredibly hopeful report, but not one that says we are past everything. 3% is great and it is a third of where we were but if you take out food and fuel, which are very volatile and move around, we are still looking at 8% inflation. this is great news. probably the best inflation report we have gotten in this sort of inflationary period. but it is not in the end of the road. >> it is up more than 4%.

how should we view that in the context of everything? >> i think we have high income earners. their wage growth has been significant. for those that are on fixed income or minimum wage, they are not seeing the same effects and when you have high prices on groceries and things like clothes, they are not getting some of those things priced in when they are going to the grocery store where they are paying for rent. they're not feeling the affects that biden talks about when he says americans are better off now than they were before the pandemic. >> i think it is interesting. there is such a laser focus on the lower percentile when it comes to this administration how they are trying to transfer around the trickle-down economics. he wants to bottom-up. i should memorize that. the idea itself, we look at the broader economy in terms of the skills of recovery and the durability of the recovery and

the general for me, as we look at g7 companies, they are outpacing all the nearest competitors and get, my question with the wage growth is when will this settle in and sink in? >> i think the fear hanging of the economy, hanging over americans who may be seeing some of these really positive numbers but still not entirely feeling it at home. it is also the political sore hanging over the biden campaign. >> thank you for that. >> that is a concern. i think the biden folks have a great story to tell and it so happens it is coming after the pitch with bidenomics. to some extent, thought it was ironic that he was overseas yesterday, but talking and negotiating about nato when he might have liked to be in washington and god and a big, big statement about the inflation report. that said, he will have another

opportunity and he will no doubt talk about that. there are still concerns among not just little people, but average americans, all of us, about some of the underlying issues in the economy that have not gone away. >> go ahead. >> one thing democrats are hoping is that the economy is not the end-all, be-all. we saw the economy was a huge issue for things -- but also abortion at the threats to democracy, were just as important if not more important they are still hoping and that is why we are seeing biden center freedom, abortion, these other topics are in his campaign pitches as well. >> as someone who is not an expert like you are on the economy, what does this mean? there are talks about possible recessions. how does that fit into the picture? does it give you more hope that there will not be one? >> yes, i think this report was

a very good sign in that direction. we are not going to take a recession at this point, but it does mean the reserve might not have to do quite as much with interest rates or hit the brakes on the economy as hard as they otherwise would have to to get inflation down, which improves our changes of not getting into a recession. i still think for those at home that still have a concern, and beyond that, we still have 3% inflation on top of 5% inflation. that means prices are still going up. they've gone up a lot and they are still going up. that might be why we are not seeing that relief with consumer confidence just yet. >> we are about out of time. i will keep talking. i love this topic. the national economic council director had a speech yesterday, where she took a shot at those who thought they would have to be seeing significant job loss in order to tame inflation. yes, it is -- this battle, give us the juice on this. i love this fight. >> this is her big to relapse
