as we await a third possible indictment of president trump we now know when the jury selection is going to begin this documents case and how the time line is going to coincide with the presidential run. >> murdered at the killer's home while the family was out of town is what the investigators are looking into with the evidence taken from the residence of the suspected gilgo beach serial killer. the world is mourning the legendary crooner tony bennett who died this morning at age 96. we will look his iconic career. ♪ how will i go from rags to riches ♪ ♪ my fate is up to you ♪ a trial date for the

classified documents case against donald trump now on the books. the judge says that may 24th, 2024 will be the date which essentially split the difference of the time lines that both sides wanted, and special counsel jack smith wanted it a lot sooner, and trump won it a lot later after the election, and cnn legal affairs paul reed l -- affairs correspondent paula reid joins us now. >> i was in florida tuesday when it was argued back and forth, and it is clear that the central conflict of this case is about timing. the defense attorneys argued it is unfair to hold this trial before the 2024 election, and theyn cysted it was too early to even set a date, but on the other side of the room, the prosecutors insisted they wanted a speedy trial, and they wanted a speedy trial date, and they said that trump should be

treated like any other important busy person, and this should proceed swiftly, and here, judge like you said she split the difference. she set a trial date for may 2024, but it is highly likely that is going to be probably going to slide. why? well, also included in the order is a very detailed schedule of everything that the lawyers need to do between now and the trial. rahel, there are over 30 individual items listed in the schedule. it is likely as in any case that a few of those are going to be delayed, and then you have one deadline slide, and then another, and then you get into the months of the election, and it is unclear if the justice department would want to hold the criminal trial of someone who expected to be the republican candidate for the presidency so close to the election. historically, they have tried to err on the side of caution not the impact the election, but the

trial date is up to the judge, and the larger question of whether they want to hold the trial if it is delayed into january, february or this year i and so right now, the date is may 2024. >> a long step of the process. we go to elena train outside of the bedminster golf club of donald trump. what have you learned? >> yes, kate. vi learned from a trump adviser that they are feeling good about this ruling, because they want to push it back as long as possible, and given that it is starting in mid-may, and a two-week period, that is in the middle of the primary election

season, and something that of course, donald trump and the team want to avoid, but given that it is being pushed to then and not coming sooner, they have a better shot now at potentially push it to after the election which is of course, what donald trump and the team have been pushing judge to do, and the charges in the indictment is political interference, and election interference is what we keep calling this. the best way to make this the most fair would be hold it after the 2024 election. the argument as of now is that if it is pushed to the may date, they can push it farther back and get to the goal of holding it after the 2024 presidential election, kate. >> again, i guess that there are still more questions even though we have an answer of the trial date at this moment. thank you, elina. rahel? >> thank you, normi i eisen, an

thank you for being on the program. what do you think of may 2024? >> it is an imminently reasonable time line, and it is incumbent on the department of justice for the judge to comply in all of the schedules of the very detailed schedule, and for them not to kick the can down the road, and we will see how the trump's attorneys shall do, but you should get this case to trial by may of 2024. >> norm, are we likely to see a delay when this starts, because of everything that is set here, and or it is set at may 2024? >> well, i think that there's going to be at least two trials of donald trump in this period. we know that there is going to be a march 2024 trial that has

been set by judge marchan in the case in manhattan. and jack smith has said that he will bring an indictment for the 2020 interference case, and so if that documents case slips, he is going to be pushing for that case to go before, likely, before the republican convention in july 2024. so, i do think that we will see a serious effort, and at least two criminal trials of donald trump, and totally unprecedented in a political season. >> norm, with so many cases, and with more looming investigations

of course, with fulton county, and still what is going to happen with the election interference grand jury, and help me to understand what is taking place with the calendar, and does one court defer to another, and how does that, works because the timing is curious to a lot of people. >> well, there is no formal coordination, and these are four completely different courts, assuming that the two cases that are on file are joined by the federal and state cases that seem to be looming for the 2020 alleged election interference, but what will happen that there is a little bit of first in/first out. judge marchan in manhattan can go, and then we will see the jack smith election interference

case will get a trial date over the next year if he follows through on the target letter, and so that is going to be kind of trailing the mar-a-lago case. if the mar-a-lago documents case going to trial, we won't see in the course of the next 12 months three trials. if fani willis brings the georgia state election interference case, that is purported to be a large sweeping case on how the election interference nationally hit georgia. that will likely wait for 2025 and, rahel, it is important the note that unlike the federal cases, if trump wins, he could try to pardon himself, and ordered doj to drop him. the state cases are not subject to the pjudicial pardon, and so that can wait for those who believe that there should be judicial accountability for the alleged election interference.

celebrating life of an extraordinary man? >> it is so sad, because what is knowing him for so long, and being so humble, and the contribution, and i am so lucky, because i have a grammy nomination with him, and when he won, he left a thank you note for me and gloria that we have in our home. and when you have talent, he had the incredible talent, and there is no singer like him. and when i opened up the museum at ellis island, and he came, and we leave a legacy in the world, but when you leave a beautiful legacy with the family, and for what he left for his son, it is a matter of pride in my career, they say is a highlight of my career is to work with mr. bennett. >> and emilio, you must have worked with so many people over

your illustrious career, and how rare to work with someone who has had the catalog, and the longevity of tony, and now someone who is remembered as being a nice guy in music business, and how rare is that? >> to, me it was a rare thing, and so many people that i worked with all of my life, rickie martin and gloria and the recks and everything, and when you are going to go to see him and meet him to talk about the song and how is it going to be, and you expect, that you will be nervous. you know, we had won grammys and everything, and i wanted to pay respect to him, because somebody that i admired. and he said anything that you want to do, memilio. and so we had great music in the studio. that is why we had great connection, and for america, and global, they love him so much. and something that i am so sorry

when you hear this music, and you will never forget it, and i am blessed to have been working with him. it was a privilege to me, and to gloria who adored him. and we have so many great times and laughs with him, me and gloria, and realistically, i wanted to say i am so sorry, and especially to his family. they love him so much, and they have a great relationship. so, like i said, it is unbelievable the amount of work that he has done, how many hits, how many grammy, and how much love. and when you love the fan, and he did that. he absolutely how much america loves him, but the global, and all over the world loves tony bennett. >> the joy of performance is something that we are hearing people often use to describe tony bennett, and that they see when he is on stage, and just there up there to share the gift. i feel like every time i leave a

conversation with you, emilio, i leave with that similar joy. i would probably suspect when i have had every conversation with you about your work and with gloria. what does that mean to have that joy of performance, to be able to share that with the world, and what does tony bennett have meant for music? >> i believe it is energy. when you connect with people, and you know, this country is about dreams, and also, we are immigrants, and we never expected to have somebody appreciate it, because it is touching somebody's life, and the producer life, and i have and been on the olympics and the super bowls, and so many things, and sometimes, i hope that the family realizes how much we will

a man accused of leading a double life. a new york architect is charged now in connection with the gilgo beach killings. the authorities are looking into whether rex heuermann lured women to his home before killing them. they they disappearances coincided with the travel schedule of heuermann's wife and family and coordinating with the time that his family left town and he stayed behind. john miller has more on this. and john, this is a fascinating bit -- i am still struck that so

many years later, and now it is feeling like the details are starting to come together. and how would the investigators begin to piece together this theory about the home and the residence? >> well, it starts with two things. four of the cases that he is suspected in, and three he is charged with, and at the time that they disappear, the family isway from the house, and he is there alone. so the cellular tower records. in amber costello's case, she is coming from west babylon, and picked bap ded up by a dark tru matching description of his vehicle, and the person is big, tall, thick hair and bushy hair and glasses. and never seen from again. and looking at melissa barthelemy and the n megan

asking for it while they were trying to turn themselves into the authorities. this is coming as the justice department is looking at allegations that state troopers were told to purn migrants back into the rio grande, and i wanted to bring in rosa flores, because you spoke to the two women, and what did they tell you? >> rahel, they said that the texas national guard denied them water multiple times. let me show you the story. we are on the bank of the rio grande, and there are multiple layers of barrier deployed by the state of texas, and two serts of concertino wire, and they said that they were held up by that wire, and they asked the texas national guard members for water, and they were denied. again, they are pregnant, but

the national guard said it is not their responsibility, take a listen. [ speaking non-english language ] did they deny you water? she is saying that the texas national guard first denied her water and then afterwards they did give them water but it is one bottle of water for two the three people. now the other woman says that she asked a second time for water, and she says that she was shown handcuffs. now i want to go back the show you the river, because that woman says that the texas national guard asked them to continue walking, and later on, she says that law enforcement in airboats then circled them on the rio grande and the wake kept on knocking them over, and then of course, they kept walking and eventually, they did get water from other law enforcement. the texas national guard and we asked them about the specific allegations, and they have not responded yet, but overall, they are denying allegations that
