knesset passed parts of a new bill to dramatically reshaping the power of the courts and dramatically restricting power of the courts. the proponents of the plan say it is turning israel into a dictatorship, but reformists say it is necessary to restore power to the branchs of the government. we go to jerusalem in what is a energetic scene, hadas. >> yes, john. lots of action here, within the minutes of the legislation passing in parliament, 64-0, because the lawmakers walked off of the floor in protest. the crowd reacted in chants of boos and shame. now they are gathered in the stage behind me. we are outside of the supreme court, and that is what this fight is about, and they are trying to encourage the crowd to say they will not give up, and this is the beginning of the war
7:03 am
and telling everybody not to leave the streets, and come out to streets now to show the government that this is not the end, but the beginning of the fight, and what they are seeing from the beginning of this is that it is benjamin netanyahu to lead this massive judicial overhaul to finally pass parliament. it is not necessarily meaning that it going to become law at this step, but it is an important part of the coalition government to push forward this legislation. we have had the first legal challenge against this is filed before the supreme court asking for the injunction to stop this, and this is going to lead to the interesting fight, because this legislation is trying to take away the supreme court's actions by declaring them unreasonable. so they may have to rule on their own power or reasonability and whether they can declare something reasonable or the law says it is unreasonable.
7:04 am
and we will have to wait to see if the court is going to name it reasonable or unreasonable. and meanwhile, the stock market is falling, and the biggest labor union has said that it will shutdown the entire country, and there is a debate right now whether to call for that strike. and now, there are elite air force pilots who have said they will not heed the call to serve if this legislation passes, and the legislation has passed, and so that is a major test for them, if there is a major contest, and if they will be arrested. last night, president joe biden encouraging the israeli leaders to take a step back and close things down, and he was not listened to, and i expect we will see another clash here. >> and the connection is not
