traveling to a fund-raising event in chattanooga, tennessee. we know that the governor was traveling in tennessee to appear at a number of fund-raising events. he had three scheduled today. fund raising is an important part of running for office. his campaign said that this morning the governor was in a car accident while traveling to an event in chattanooga, tennessee, and we appreciate the prayers of the nation for his wellbeing and the staff. i know that traveling with the governor he has a large security presence, and he goes with staff and security, and he has vehicles in front and behind him. so that is the size of the operation, and we are awaiting more details, but the most important thing is that the governor is okay, and that is

mostly positive details coming from the campaign so far. >> the governor and the staff are okay, but other possible injuries in this crash, steve? >> we are making calls to authorities in tennessee to get these details, and we are hoping to get a response from that within the hour, and if, soly come back on, john. >> thank you, steve. we appreciate the update. governor desantis and the staff okay after a car accident in tennessee this morning. rahel. >> will the twice impeached and twice arrested president of the united states be indicted again? we could find out as soon as today. the grand jury that could hand up that indictment is meeting again today, and we have new details of the what the special counsel jack smith is focusing on. we have a new set of documents from the former trump attorney
7:05 am
rudy giuliani team. and the documents appear to have affidavits with widespread irregularities and analysis supposedly revealing ir irreg irregularity, and i want the bring in katelyn polantz, and you are outside of the court, and what are you seeing or watching for? >> well, everybody is at work today, the special counsel office, the courthouse, the grand jury, and we have no indication that the grand jury of the special counsel office has been using for some time to look at january 6th, donald trump and the 2020 election, and that specific grand jury has convened today, but if they do, the day is still young, and if they do, any time they are meeting is a time when they could be asked to review an indictment or the look at additional evidence, and you have mentioned the new documents that the special counsel has, and that is a significant trove
7:06 am
of information, and we don't know what the special counsel's office will find with that or do with that as they are looking at a possible case here, and that is because the documents come from the group of people that rudy giuliani was working with most closely to try and perpetuate this idea of election fraud across the country that was not founded. the reason that those documents had been held back is because the trump campaign did not want to turn them over. bernie keric, a close confident of rudy giuliani, then decided to turn them over, because he decided, yes, they would have to turn them over. >> and katelyn, let me ask you about this meeting where trump praised the election security,
7:07 am
and this is a new bit of reporting that jack smith might find interesting. >> yes, and this is another aspect of the investigation, and so many pieces of this investigation that could come together for a possible indictment, and in this particular aspect, sean lingis, here at cnn was able to find a meeting at february 2020 when donald trump was briefedly national security officials about how secure they believed the election was going to be, and they believed it was going to be very secure, and trump was receptive to that at the meeting, and he wanted them to hold a press conference about it, and the work they were doing to make sure that the paper ballots and the other aspects of the election would be so secure for the american public. the special counsel has heard some information about that, and it is not totally clear why they
7:08 am
want to do that, but if you are coupling that with what trump said two months later how there could be fraud, and how there may not be reason to believe and have faith in the election. >> it is fascinating to learn about the new evidence and interviews and this potential indictment coming at any moment now. so much to watch. katelyn polantz, outside of the courthouse watching it for us. >> and now house speaker, kevin mccarthy made the most latest impeachment threat against president biden telling fox that president biden's alleged business dealings with his son are rising to the level of impeachment. manu raju, and this language was inching very close. what are you hearing? >> yes, an implicit implication,
7:09 am
and it is not to be taken lightly. three have been impeached and donald trump was impeached twice, and if president biden were to be impeached, he would be the fourth. and kevin mccarthy is saying that an impeachment inquiry could be launch and this is the first step to go ahead to charging a president with high crimes and misdemeanors here, and the allegation is that president biden was involved with his son while he was vice president after the allegations of an fbi informant that he was involved in a bribery scandal. the white house has dismissed this and saying that the president was not involved with his son's business dealings, and they are pushing forward with what they are calling a political stunt. and yet, he was saying that an impeachment inquiry could be opened in the near future.
7:10 am
>> we have only followed where the information has taken us, but it is rising to the level of impeachment inquiry which provides congress the strongest power to get the rest of the knowledge and information needed. >> now, there is growing pressure on the right flank of kevin mccarthy's conference to go ahead and move ahead with impeachment against joe biden or alejandr o maljorkis and big question if they can pull it off, but it is never the less
7:11 am
being said. >> thank you, manu raju, at the white house. and now, there is a call to shrink the field of candidates, and mitt romney is saying that candidates with no hope should drop out, and prevent donald trump from becoming candidate. and so, turning to the op-ed, jackie, the decision date that romney cites is the 26th of august, and what are you hearing? >> well, there is an assumption
7:12 am
that they can differentiate themselves from the president, and at this point, the only two who wants to separate themselves from him is chris christie and asa hutchinson, and in the other states he has such a commanding lead, and when you are doing the math, it is difficult for any of them to catch up, but at the present time, there is a difficult time to see that not only donors, but voters want somebodyls >> and so, loong at this, romney is not a trump fan, and he writes in op-ed, we need a nominee driven by something other than ego and revenge. and so, in your opinion, who
7:13 am
needs to come and go? >> well, that is obviously for the republican party to decide, but mitt romney has a point, and the democrats did that after south carolina and the field thinned and paved way for biden and bernie sanders with the duality there. and so, let's coalesce behind him after some consternation. and i believe the opposite of donald trump at the moment is chris christie, and there are some standouts, but they should take a note from mitt romney, and take the mattitt romney, an they can look at the winner-take-all position, and they are going to have to winnow the field to offer a couple of
