around the world. i'm max foster in london. bianca is off this week. just ahead -- >> the good news, as bronny in less than a day was out of the icu. >> sudden cardiac arrest and death is rare in young competitive athletes, but these cases are tragic and they do occur. the heat bottled up in the desert southwest is now on the move toward the northeast. >> this is not going to be a good week. the hotter it gets, harder it is to breathe for some people. there is less air. there is an expectation perhaps the best and biggest target, joe biden might be the one to go after. >> i want the committee digging into this. live from london, this is c"cnn newsroom" with max foster and bianca nobilo.

>> it is wednesday, july 26. 9:00 a.m. in london. 1:00 a.m. in los angeles where bronny james is now in stable condition after suffering a cardiac arrest on monday. he will undergo tests in the days ahead to find out what actually caused it. the 18-year-old basketball car is incoming freshman at the university of southern california and was practicing there when the incident occurred. james was first admitted to intensive care but later transferred out on tuesday. medical experts say a sudden cardiac arrest for a young athlete is rare but not unheard of. >> tends to happen more in men than women, in athletes competing at a higher level. basketball is one of those sports where you tend to see sudden cardiac arrests more. and more minutes that you are playing, higher likelihood of it happening. this is rare, so no one is

suggesting that you tailor the number of minutes and things like that. built on that is things like hydration and other things causing the work to bring this on. it may have been an underlying condition that didn't pose a problem yet, but as you go through the different paces, taxing the heart harder, it could have elicited an electrical abnormality, could have elicited something with the muscles of the heart now leading to the sudden cardiac arrest. people who have sudden cardiac arrest if they can figure out what caused this, there is a possibility that they could address this and that he would go on to play. and, you know, be able to play at the level that he was playing before. again, that is speculative. >> lebron james has long said he would love to play with his son in the nba one day. right now though the family's main concern is bronny's health. brian todd has more. >> reporter: a hall of famer and

his family rallying around their son. bronny james, 18-year-old son of lebron james, is in stable condition and out of the icu after suffering cardiac arrest monday during a practice at usc where he has been slated to play this coming season. the james family in a statement saying that they send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the usc medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes. >> what happened to bronny james is beyond shocking, partially because we've seen him grow up. >> reporter: bronny james has spent his entire life around his fa father and the nba and lebron james has been devoted father dedicating to nurturing his sons' basketball dreams. >> we've seen him coaching aau basketball tournaments during his offseason. never seen it from the likes of a michael jordan or anyone else who has that same type of stature. >> reporter: with only about a 20 year difference in age
1:05 am
between them, lebron james has talked openly about wanting to play on the same nba team as bronny if it can be arranged citing baseball stars ken griffey and ken griffey jr. who briefly played together in the early 1990s. >> i'd love to do the whole ken griffey jr./sr. thing. being in the same uniform would be icing on the cake. >> reporter: could bronny's health emergency derail those plans? >> i expect that he will be putting the family bonds and bronny's health before anything else at this point. that being said, this is not necessarily as far as we know from the publicly available information a career ending situation. >> reporter: it was just this past january that buffalo bills safety damar hamlin's heart stopped in the middle of a game after a collision. ham len lin was revived and is

attempting to return to the nfl. but similar cases have ended in tragedy. college basketball star hank gathers who had an irregular heartbeat collapsed during a televised game in march 1990, stopped breathing on the court and died. he was 23. boston celtics star reggie lewis died at the age of 27 after suffering cardiac arrest during an offseason practice. >> heart ailments reveal themselves in periods of physical stress. and the tragic odds are that this is going to be a part of sports in the future just as it has been a part of sports in the past. >> reporter: analysts say the message to take from this is the importance of having trained medical staff with defib defibrillators and other equipment at the ready during practices as well as games. those were critical factors in saving the lives of bronny james, damar hamlin and christian erickson who nearly died after suffering from cardiac arrest during a game at the european championships two

threatening to launch an impeachment requirery a riequir joe biden. and tens of millions are under heat alerts as the extreme temperatures continue to shift to the east. tuesday alone, there were multiple heat records above 100 degrees across the southern u.s. chad myers takes a look at what is in store for the rest of the week. >> well, the heat in the south and southwest we've been talking about now for a month is on the move. and it is on the move toward the east and toward the northeast. the heat is still going to be in the southwest, but we'll start to push this jet stream farther to the north and warm up big cities. minneapolis, chicago, detroit, cleveland, all the way into the northeast as this bubble of air here begins to push farther and farther and farther closer to bigger cities. a lot of heat right here in the central part of the plains. we'll see heat indexes of 110. for vegas, you will still be

above 110 for a couple more days. phoenix the same story. so even though you are losing the big core of the heat dome, you are still going to deal # with a lot of heat. the heat slides to the east. look, here is friday, 97 in chicago. it won't feel 97 if you are by the lake shore, but if you get toward aurora, you will definitely feel that kind of heat. kansas city, 101, maybe even warmer in parts there especially with the heat index. the humidity is really going to be with the heat here the rest of the week for that matter. and temperatures as we work our way into the end of the weekend will be breaking more records. at least 180 possible records still and not only now in the desert southwest, but notice how the little dots begin to move to the northeast cities. the climate crisis taking a grim toll on coral reefs off the coast of florida where water temperatures have risen above

100 degrees farenheit or 38 degrees celsius. scientists say multiple reefs around the florida keys are completely bleached and could be dead in just a week. director of the florida aquarium says it is a lot like the trees in the rainforest dying. restoration experts are plucking coral species from nurseries and taking them to land where they will wait until the extreme heat is over. meanwhile a new study in the journal of nature predicts collapse of vital ocean systems as early as 2025, a catastrophic event that would impact everyone on the planet. scientists say the currents help regulate global weather patterns and collapse would mean more severe winters, extreme storms and rising sea levels. right now some of the europe hottest tourist destinations are burning. wildfires are tearing through and the weather is only making things worse. at least four people died from wildfires in southern italy tuesday. all of the victims were elderly,

one minister called it the country's most difficult days in decades. northern italy has been hit by storms where a 16-year-old girl died when a tree fell on her tent during a scout ing compoun. and on the islands in greece, two air force officers died while their plane crashed while conducting a firefighting operation let's go to the latest. and the challenge is that they might be dealing with a fire in one place and then another one appears and they have to somehow figure out where to prioritize. >> reporter: absolutely. and of course that limits resources. what we know today is that things in roadhodes and core fe oig are improving but we're not out of the danger yet. and right behind me, you can
1:12 am
probably see it a little bit in the distance, it is very hazy because it is also hot and there is smoke coming out. we just heard although things have been improving, a new fire has just broke out. and so it is extremely difficult to assess how things are going to develop in the next hours ahead. greece is going through the hottest day of its summer today, it is 46 degrees celsius in many parts of the country and plus 115 farenheit. and with strong winds blowing in most of the country as well. so apart from what is actually happening on a day to day basis with all the phenomena we're seeing now, a lot of questions have started arising about the future of tourism, we've seen massive evacuations from rhodes, one of the country's most touristy islands where its economy is so dependent on tourism and a country that the economy is dependent thisin abo quarter on tourism alone. and so now with everything that
1:13 am
is happening, there is a lot of debate, what does it mean, where will it lead this country, rest of the mediterranean. the greek prime minister has spoken about being at war with the fires and acknowledged that we're going through a climate crisis. so once the shock and panic subsides about what happens next, the debate is moving on to what it means for the future of this country and the region in general. >> linda, thank you so much for joining us. the u.s. secretary of state insists negotiations to free two americans detained in russia will not be impacted by revelations of previously freed american trevor reed was fighting against russian forces in ukraine. clare sebastian is joining us now. extraordinary to hear. >> yeah, we didn't even know that he had gone to ukraine let alone to fight with ukrainian forces against russia until the news emerged that he has actually been injured and according to the u.s. government
1:14 am
transported with the help of an ngo to a medical facility next door to the ramstein air base in germany. so we don't know severity of his injuries, where it happened, the circumstances, we don't even know how long he had been in ukraine. he has been out there in the 15 months since he was freed in that hard-fought prisoner swap that the u.s. negotiated amid reports that his health was deteriorating, he has been advocating for the release of other americans detained in russia. so we're trying to find out more information, but there are questions around what this will mean for the ongoing negotiations as regards paul whelan who has been there more than four years, evan gershovich there since march. the u.s. official telling cnn that of course they are concerned, although officially antony blinken is saying it shouldn't affect things. i think the concern is that this will be used by russia to sort

of raise the price to higher price. and i've been looking at the russia media, and there is almost no coverage at all of this which sort of makes you feel like they are waiting for a signal from the kremlin as to how they will handle this, how they will spin this. i think the other concern for the u.s. will be that they will try to use this to reinforce the rhetoric that the u.s. is somehow complicit in this conflict in ukraine. >> clare, thank you. one person dead and several others injured after a major fire broke out on a cargo ship off the coast of the netherlands. it happened on board the free mantle oig hhighway, a vehicle carrier. boats and helicopters were used to evacuate the crew members. still to come, police finish

multiple impeachments. so the thinking goes that they might as well just go after their top target which is biden. but nonetheless, not all republicans are still sold on it. there are still moderates who are deeply concerned about how it could backfire in the midterms. in fact i'm told that issue was raised in a private leadership meeting between mccarthy and some of his team on tuesday evening. so if and when republicans decide to go down the route, it will be a complicated sales job. melanie zanona, cnn, washington. china's foreign minister has been mysteriously missing for a month now and now he's out of a job as well. beijing has announced that he has been sacked from his high profile position. this is a significant fall from grace for a man who was recently one of xi jinping's top aides. mark stewart has been tracking his mysterious disappearance and

abrupt change of leadership. mark. >> reporter: this departure and this disappearance itself is certainly intriguing but also the speed in which it occurred. it was only one month ago we saw him meeting with leaders from lisa ran sri lanka, russia, in beijing. but hasn't been seen since. so where is he, why was he removed and what is next. while the government is remaining quite silent about that, it is insisting that its relationship with world powers including the united states will remain strong, if you will. we just received a statement within the last few hours from ministry spokesperson from beijing, let me share that with you, they y our position on u.s./china relations has been consistent.we have always viewe developed china/u.s. relations

from the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful company existence and win/win cooperation. and we've heard from other world leaders including japan and u.s. secretary of state antony blinken who say that they will see the future direction to continue as is notinge the hamstrung relations. so that is where the diplomatic stage is set. finally, i should point out that this disappearance is not just physical. it is also virtual. a lot of social media references have been scrubbed. and in addition his presence on the chinese government website has also disappeared. those references have all been removed according to a government spokesperson, this is all basically in accord with regulations. >> thank you. still to come, setback for the biden administration as the u.s. federal judge blocks a key asylum policy, implications of

haitian national police. haitian civil protection and the u.s. embassy for comment but haven't heard back yet. u.s. department of justice says it will appeal a federal ruling blocking the biden administration's asylum policy. a judge tuesday blocked it as the justice department is seeing the state of texas overfloating barriers installed in the rio grande river to block migrants. rosa flores has more. >> reporter: the showdown between the u.s. doj and the state of texas is happening right here in eagle pass, texas. let me set the scene for you. the property that i'm on belongs to the orbina family, they have 352 acres and there are gates like these that give them access towards the river. but take a look, they are barricaded, they claim by the state of texas, you can see concertina wire, a burn created to them by the state of texas.
1:41 am
beyond that, there are several layers of border barrier before we get to the buoys. these but is are at the center of this legal battle between the u.s. doj and the state of texas. the u.s. doj filed suit against the lone star state saying that these buoys were deployed unlawfully, that the state of texas did not get the proper permits from the army corps of engineers and that it could create a diplomatic situation with mexico. mexico's top diplomat complaining to washington saying that this violates two treaties between the two countries. well, governor greg abbott digging in his heels saying that the state of texas has sovereign authority based on the texas and u.s. constitutions and the office of the texas attorney general saying that they are ready to duke it out with the u.s. doj in federal court. now, one of the concerns from the u.s. doj is the humanitarian
1:42 am
risks, the public safety risks. take a look at this video. we were on the orbina's property when a woman was being tended to by paramedics. now, you look at that video, that woman is being rendered aid. the family says that the woman was by the rio grande asking for help. lawmaker had to cut two layers of concertina wire to bring her to the paramedics and they had to cut through chain link fencing. the property owner says that they witnessed as migrants have died on their property and they want the dying to stop. in this federal lawsuit between the u.s. doj and the state of texas, the u.s. doj is asking texas to remove the border buoys. well, the orbina family is also asking the state to remove the concertina wire from their property and that texas so far
1:43 am
has refused. cnn has reached out to the state of texas for comment and has not heard back. rosa flores, cnn, eagle pass, texas. at least 31 people died and more than a dozen injured in clashes between prisoners and police in ecuador. more than 100 have been held hostage. and now the country's president has declared a state of emergency in all prisons to make sure a crisis like this doesn't happen again. there are worries about an economic fallout in israel after the government pushed through the first part of controversial judicial overhaul plan. labor unions are urging the government to reverse their decision as protests continue. this as thousands of reservists are refusing to report for service. the contentious bill would strip the supreme court of its power to declare government decisions unreasonable. there are medical legal challenges. let's go to elliott gotkine who is in tel aviv.
1:44 am
we're getting a sense now about the wider fallout from this bill pas passing. >> reporter: and i suppose the big worry is that momentum seems to be building in terms of damage and potential damage to israel's economy. so yesterday we heard from morgan stanley downgrading its outlook on the israeli economy, we heard from moodys, one of the three big credit ratings agencies also warning about the potential fallout for israel's economy, saying that there are significant risks, political and social tensions over the judicial overhaul will continue with negative consequences for israel's economy and security situation. and we still haven't yet heard from standard and & poor's and fitch. that could have a n impact on te israeli currency and also the israeli stock market. so there are those concerns.
1:45 am
and i suppose the other big concern is investment in israel. israel's much fabled startup high tech sector where investment has fallen at a much faster rate than it has fallen in startups around the world in terms of investment from venture capital firms in to startups. and that is a big worry for israel because high tech exports account for about half of all israeli exports. so if the high tech sector is impacted, that will have a big impact on the economy as a whole. but it is not all doom and gloom. certainly that is what benjamin netanyahu and his finance minister were trying to say yesterday in the wake of this announcement by moodys. they were saying look, once the dust settles, everyone will see that the israeli economy is strong and to be fair they reckon it will grow about 3% this year, that is not too shabby. and also there are big investments coming in the gas sector and just yesterday, we had a big french aerospace and
1:46 am
defense company announcing that it is buying an israeli founded company for $3.5 billion. so it is not all doom and gloom, but the government will be worried that this drumbeat is getting louder and louder as to the potential damage for the economy. >> and in terms of -- i mean, this was only the first stage of the plan. there are more bills that will go through this process. so are we going to -- is there potential for some of these other parts of the reform plan to cause more concern in the economy? >> reporter: very much so. we see the protests going on for more than six months. we've seen thousands of reservists saying that they will not serve as a result of just this one part of the government's judicial overhaul. and even benjamin netanyahu in an attempt perhaps to reach out to the opposition again said that he was open to dialogue and there shouldn't be a problem in reaching agreements ahead of the next kind of legislative onslaught which would be expected around october/november.
1:47 am
the opposition believes that there is no point really in negotiating with this government because it hasn't done so in good faith on this part of the judicial overhaul and therefore benjamin netanyahu is not really in charge, he is beholden he says to the more extremist elements in his coalition. so, yes, plenty more scope for more laws, more protests and more potential damage to the economy. >> elliott, thank you very much indeed for that. more than 50 pilot whales have died after being stranded on a beach in western austr wor dozens still alive. it is unclear why the whales became stranded. residents are being urged to stay off the beach. still ahead, skittles are trying out a limited edition flavor, one that you are more likely to find in sandwich.

now more from don riddell. >> every summer the top football players in the world take a rest, but the excitement around the game never stops and news and speculation continues to fuel the hype. every summer the dollar amounts go up and up, but this year the numbers being discussed are absolutely ridiculous. could it be that the french world cup winner kylian mbappe is off to saudi arabia where he will be paid over $700 million? maybe. so how did we get here? mbappe was already a rising star at the age of 18. he was a world champion with france the next year. since then, he has won five league titles and numerous cups, but psg have never won the european cup. and at times his relationship with psg and their fans has been rather uneasy. two years ago when he was yet to sign a new contract, he was related to a move to madrid.
