central." ♪ this is mar-a-lago property manager, now codefendant, in former president trump's documents case, carlos de oliveira. de oliveira was indicted last week on four charges. he did not enter a formal plea during this brief hearing, and was released on a $100,000 bond. he will be formally arraigned next week. he, along with walt nauta, attempted to delete security footage and tried to alter, mute late and conceal evidence. according to the indictment, he told the i.t. director that the boss, as he pud it, wanted the

server delighted. a number of people close to the president as well as know de oliveira, personally described him as not in trump's inner circle. an indictment could be coming at any time in the special counsel's january 6th probe. the former. over the weekend said he probably will be indicted, and he may be right. the filthen county district attorney said she will announce charging decision in the weeks to come. randi kaye is in miami with the latest. what do we know about carlos de oliveira's first court appearance. >> brianna, we've been looking for him today. we finally caught him today. he walked in with his attorney, john irving, from washington,

d.c. the judge asked him to come to the electric earn, and the judge read the charges against him. he asked if de oliveira understood them. he was told he had the right to retain a lawyer, and to remain silent. then he was released on the $100,000 bond. he did say he holds a u.s. passport but that it was expired. the judge also told him he could not leave the area of south florida without permission, so some restricted travel put in place, and that he would not be able to speak with witnesses on the government's witness list. he will enter a plea on august 10th. he did not have a florida-based attorney, which he needs to enter a plea here in the state of florida. his dc-based attorney says he does expect to enter a plea on

august 10th. >> we also heard that there was a target letter for the person who oversees the -- and met with investigators after the original indictment. what more can you tell us? >> reporter: it's important to note that tavares has not been charged, but cnn has learned he was the i.t. worker that de oliveira met with, and that's when he was asked about the footage and how long it remains on the server. now this i.t. worker, apparently, is responsible for sharing information -- that apparently has led to these additional allegations against the former president, his aide nauta, as well as carlos de oliveira. he spoke to the investigators.

jim? >> well, in another investigation, we could see a decision anytie in the fulton county district attorney's investigation into donald trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election in georgia. the d.a. says her investigation is finished. sara murray joins us now. sara, she says we're ready to go, we've heard of security preparation. this is like reading tea leaves. based on the folks you talk to, is there any doubt as to what decision the d.a. will make there? >> reporter: i think it's hard to believe she would be doing anything other than seeking indictments other than the public signal, the ramped-up security posture, but that depends on taking this to the grand jury. we could always see things

county as well. is the based on specific threats? or is it an abundance of caution? >> well, they haven't addressed whether, you know, for instance, barricades going up around the courthouse or staff working from home, but she did flag one specific threat to a handful of county officials in an e-mail we obtained a copy of. she shared a pretty vile racist and sexualized e-mail. she said, i guess i am sending this as a reminder you should stay alert over the month of august and stay safe. so, again, encouraging her county partners to stay vigilant, signaling that an announcement is coming in august.

thoughts about what we would sigh in court, with carlos de oliveira extending his case. this is part of trump's strategy, delay, delay, delay. his entire team appears to want to delay. how is that strategy working? >> it's working. while we had nauta search for an attorney, we know there's a lot of lawyers in florida, but they keep having trouble finding lawyers. here we have in the court hearing in miami, they told the magistrate they were trying to schedule it for later in august. the magistrate said no, august 10th is when you'll do the arraignment. look, it is a strategy, it's working so far, and it's very likely -- i think you and i both agree that this is very likely to stretch out beyond the election. >> i think that's right. i want to say this is

outrageous, maybe shocking is a better word. overseeing 20 years of arrests and indictments. hundreds of people get arraigned. most of them don't have the luxury of four days' notice before the arraignment. i think the judge is allowing they sort of tactics to result in what will end up being significant delay at the end of this pros. it's concerning, and they need to get their hands around this process and move it forward. >> i guarantee that dozens of people in that courthouse, because they didn't have a lawyer, were assigned a public defender. >> andy, how much of that decision making by the judge has to do with the amount of public scrutiny on every, even minor, decision in this case. >> sure. federal judges have incredible discretion to run their dockets

co-defendants are people who are currently represented by lawyers who have been paid an enormous amount of money. with trump paying for the legal fees of folks who might under circumstances testify against him or may want to head off that concern. >> there hasn't been anything that they have been able to prove, but we do know, with these witnesses who have lawyers who are paid for by this political action committee, they've been asked about the arrangements. thieve asked to show what documentation there is, what do their contracts with the lawyers say? what kind of collaboration is happening? it should be clear, they are allowed to collaborate. there's nothing about the sense that they with spend $40 million that is illegal. that is the money, but it gives you an idea how strapped they are for cash.

the save america pac did try to get a contribution of $60 million for another pac supporting trump. now they have asked for a refund. that was at one point a $100 million war chest of the former president. he's been fund racing for a long time. we don't know what that looks like now, we are expecting to know from a campaign financing filing, but it's interesting to see what is left they know that we're signing up for and they believe that donors know those donations could possibly go to legal fees. part of the sell is, could you help out with some of these legal fees?
