we are standing by for remarks from president biden after a better than expected jobs report. the message to the american people while inflation and rate hike concerns are looming large. >> we don't know when former president trump's trial will begin, but we know that the world will watch it live. how cameras allowed in the courtroom could impact the case. >> it is not just any friday, but it is the friday before the long weekend. i'm kate bolduan with rahel solomon and boris sanchez, and this is cnn "news central." >> right now, we are waiting to find out if a federal judge is going to allow donald trump's former chief of staff mark meadows to move his georgia
8:02 am
election subversion case from state to federal court. a decision that could have major implications of how the case plays out, and this comes as the former president is trying to postpone his trial after many have started theirs. and also as many are trying to sever their case from others, and one of them is the architect of the fake electors kenneth chesebro. his arraignment is scheduled for next wednesday, and he wants to force fulton county district attorney fani willis to turnover her discovery. this is the same case that trump plead not guilty in. and so, sara, starting with the former president, bring us up to speed with what the former president is trying to accomplish with this filing? >> well, in trying to sever his
8:03 am
case with the former attorneys, it is clear that donald trump has no interest in going to trial in october of this year, and he says that trump is not going to be ready, and it is going to violate his fair trial rights to put him on that timetable. and some of the attorneys are going to want to move it to federal court, but they are going to wait to see how it plays out with the mark meadows' gambit. we will see how it plays out, because cameras are not allowed in federal court as they are in state court. this is all coming as donald trump has plead not guilty to the 13 charges that he is facing in this case. it is now the fourth time that donald trump has pleaded not guilty in a criminal case that he has faced since leaving office. he also as you pointed out waived the right to an arraignment, so we will not be seeing donald trump in a courtroom next week, boris. >> sara, talking about another recent filing, and this is coming from ray smith, one of
8:04 am
the co-defendants in the case. he wants to be divvied up into manageable portions of all of the co-defendants that fani willis is prosecuting. >> he is essentially begging the court for some order or management of the case. he has pointed out 19 defendants in this case, and that there is a widespread racketeering case that fani willis has brought, and that she has all of the acts that happened in georgia as well as acts that took place in other states, and he asking the judge in state court to split these folks up into manageable groups. he is not proposing a way to do that, so it is unclear exactly what he is asking the judge, but you can envision a situation where there are a handful of people, and we have seen ken chesebro and sidney powell who are ready to go to trial in the next couple of months, and maybe others who want to move on a different schedule, and still others who may want to move to
8:05 am
federal court. boris. >> sara murray, a lot to get through. kate. >> and on this very topic. trum trump's trial may be on display for all to see, because the judge has ruled that all courtroom testimony will be televised and livestreamed, and there is more, the decision would not apply to any portion of the case that is moved to federal court. as you well know, donald trump is expected to request that his entire case get moved out of georgia and into federal court. cnn's oliver darcy is joining with us more and the decision of the judge to have it livestreamed and on tv. how big of a deal is this, oliver? >> it is a huge deal, kate. it is a huge win for court transparency advocates who have said that the public has a right to see this historic trial streamed live and televised. you know, this is going to go down in the history books, and
8:06 am
so allowing people to watch in realtime will allow them to also see the evidence against donald trump in realtime. it is going to be probably the most watched trial er. it is -- most watched trial ever. and it is hard to see how. and it is also going to help stop the misinformation, and you are always talking the misinformation that he and his allies pedal, and allowing public to see it in realtime is going to help with that, because the absence of seeing with it. your own eyes, there is a void. in that void is usually where the conspiracy theer res and the misinformation thrive. so streaming it live and allowing newsrooms to have videos to go fact-check things in realtime is going to be a very helpful in the efforts of conveying to the public exactly what is happening in the courtroom. kate. >> interesting aspect of all of this. good to see you, oliver.
8:07 am
boris. >> donald trump's co-defendants are facing a lengthy and expensive legal battle in the georgia interference case, and that they say they are struggling to pay for it, and donald trump's legal sources are not helping them pay for it, but they are getting creative to pay for it. and kristen holmes is joining with us this. and a legal defense like this, it could cost them a hefty sum, and how do they par foyr it? >> and to be clear, donald trump has paid for aides and former and current in the investigation of january 6th and so much that america pac has spent more than $41 million since 2021 and that is an extraordinary fee, but obviously, when it is coming to georgia that is not the case. we are told that even with all of the grumblings of all of the
8:08 am
defendants not having their bills paid by donald trump, no one has formally asked him either. and they have come up with creative ways, and some of the creative ways is crowd funding. that includes john eastman, an election attorney, and jeffrey clark, the doj attorney who is at the center and kathy latham who is a fake elector in georgia and another thing is that rudy giuliani and his son has helped to create a political pac, political action committee, to help pay, and donald trump is not helping to foot the bill, but he is helping with a fund-raiser which is $100,000/person and he is considered the headliner there, and that is big bills and one of the co-defendants spent a week in jail, because he couldn't afford an attorney. boris. >> kristen holmes, thank you so much.
8:09 am
rahel. >> and boris, continuing the conversation and bringing in cnn legal analyst, and prosecutor jennifer rogers, and good to have you here. and starting with some of the motions here to sever the trials from one another, and if you were d.a. fani willis, what would you do? >> well, d.a. fani willis does not want the try this many, many times. she is going to have to take these two defendants who have asked for speedy trial in october because she has to do that, but she wants to minimize the number of trials. and if mark meadows wins this bid to go to federal court, that is another trial to include him and others in federal court, so she is looking to break this into the smallest number of pieces that she can. i believe she will go to court and suggest a trial court for the 17 remaining defendants a few months out, and then propose that they see how many defendants plead out between now and the months before the date
8:10 am
approaches and try to get into as few trials as possible, because it is a going to be labor intensive, and see how few she can get to. >> and there a filing to try as if as possible, but trying a rico case, walk me through the disadvantages of the bite-sized cases as opposed to trying them in a more organized fashion. >> these cases are going to be a pretty big bite, ra health, meaning it is a rico case, meaning they have to prove the enterprise and the conspiracy and the overt act, and still it is decent, but the defendant is right, you can't try 19 or 17 defendants together, because a lot of them are going to plead out, and if i am fani willis, okay, yes, judge, set the additional trial date, and we can't do this in less than two trials, but don't cut it down too much, because a lot of defendants will plead out, and
8:11 am
we will end up with a group to go to trial without breaking it on the five or six trials now, and that what i will propose, but all parties will break it down, and there has to be a severance here, but the question is how many severances here. >> and kenneth chesebro is one of the defendants who sought that speedy trial, and d.a. fani willis said, okay, i will match you and i got the speedy trial. and then the attorneys for kenneth chesebro said that she has not released discovery, and if you are ready for the trial, and not ready to release the discovery, walk me through why that would be. >> well, it is a big case, and a lot of defendants and a lot of evidence, and she has to get it organized. but she has to be moving and ready to trial, and this defendant and sidney powell and i am surprised they pushed for it, because it is going to be hard for them to get ready for this even with the discovery as
8:12 am
we sit here today, and even though it is a big lift, she has to put as many people on it, on the project to get these two defendants on trial the discovery right away, because they need that to have a chance at a fair trial and she will push to get it done. >> another major motion is what is going to happen with mark meadows, and does he have the motion requested to move to federal court. you say that he has the best case or the best chance of the defendants to moving it to federal court. if in fact this is approved, does it necessarily mean that others might be successful as well? >> well, he does have the best shot. so even if he stays in federal court, it is not a given that the others will succeed as well, but they will at least have a chance. if his bid to get into federal court is denied, no one else is going to get into federal court. so he has the strongest case as a former federal official who was following orders from the boss a lot of times.
8:13 am
so it is a gateway thing, that if he loses, etch will lose, but if he gets in, some others will. and that is going to raise a better defense of the likelihood of winning, and that is a whole other trial that fani willis and the team will have to do, and logistically, that is a whole other headache, and logistically, it will be difficult if they get into federal court. >> so if that is approved, his trial will not be televised like what we are likely to see in georgia. >> yeah, and this is not so important to the prosecutors, because they have to go about their business whether there are cameras in the courtroom or not, but it is a big ploe for the rest of us, and trarns parent si, because the people need to see the cases, and the evidence. we are voting for the presidency on a man who has tried to steal the last election, at least as the prosecutors have alleged and want to show. so it is important to see that
