>> well, she said it was biden 's decision. more importantly, she actually offered a nugget of defense of vice president harris, which is that she is politically astute. if there is one thing about nancy pelosi, she respects winds. that is what she always brought to the caucus. that's the energy that she brings to things, and she very much said, look, this person can do it. don't underestimate them. and she did not have to say that. there are lots of people who would have been swirly in her answers, and she was not. >> congressman kinzinger, i referred to david ignatius's washington post op-ed, where he argued that president biden should not run again. he said that biden's undoing of his greatest achievement of stopping trump. do you think that joe biden can beat donald trump again? >> yeah, he can. it is a risk, and it's a risk and decision by democratic friends have to make, because if you have a, i don't mean this pejoratively, a kind of mcconnell moment, where he freezes or things slowly, that

is the number issue that republicans run on. you already hear some presidential candidates saying it's really a run against kamala harris. i think it's a risk that democrats take. i don't want to take away from the fact that i may disagree with joe biden on a lot of issues, but he has been quite effective. he has really passed, you think about passing the chips act, which i think i was the only republican to vote for his infrastructure bill, i did not vote for or agree with the inflation reduction act, but that was still a big accomplishment on his and. if you look at the bipartisan achievement, he has a lot to brag about. the problem right now is if i was a democratic strategist is saying that we have to get the message out.

that is not the job of the media, not the job of anybody but the candidate to get that message out. i know that they will try, but i think that is the risk that they run ultimately. he has the right to run again. he's got another term left, but is a concern for them. >> what do you think? >> anderson, i want to add one more thing there. one of the things about having this conversation is that we are frequently having it in isolation, but the truth is, this conversation will be very different depending on what the economy is doing at that time. if there is a foreign policy crisis, some sort of issue with the vice president, there are many other things that can contribute to what people perceive as competence or not competence. if you think back to john mccain running for president, the way he approached the economy at that time as it was cratering, did not instill confidence. of course, at the age thing they become more of a factor. i think sometimes it's very easy to do a kind of parlor game of washington like, should he, should he not? when in fact, it's about what the performance will be when the time comes. >> that is what the risk is involved. nobody knows what the issue will be at the time and whether -- >> and or trying to create a risk with joe biden on this particular issue in a way that

the media is talking about. obviously, the former president has a lot of risk as well. his happened to be legal. we are not offering the voters, necessarily, an ideal choice, in terms of like candidates who are any younger or don't have very specific baggage. >> congressman kinzinger, you talked about joe biden's accomplishments. when you look at what the republicans in the house have accomplished, what stands out? are there real accomplishments to look at, because so many ran on border security, what have they actually done on border security? >> they've done nothing.

i guess they did not to fall on that, that is a good thing. they are about to close the government, that is not a good thing. so i don't know. i think it is such a tight majority, but nancy pelosi had a tight majority and was able to achieve a lot of stuff. they will turn around and impeached biden because -- actually, a year ago, i said that they would impeach joe biden, why? because they have to, because of the pressures there. that is what they will try to run on achievements. it's hard to do. you have a party right now that is so divided, so divided against itself that does not agree on the outcomes and or they want to go. no, there have been no republican achievements, stopping some of joe biden's priorities.

>> when the first impeachment of president trump, when it was announced by then speaker pelosi, she said that this is not an inquiry, this will not necessarily be an impeachment. a lot of republicans scoffed and said, look, it's like once you jump out of a plane, you're committed to it. it's now the flip. the republicans are saying that -- mccarthy is saying that this is just an inquiry. the think it's inevitable that it will turn into an impeachment? >> i think that impeachment was originally to be considered an extreme sanction on a person and an important high office, and that the public in the county on impeachments that they think are about boosting the polls, or as mr. kinzinger essentially said, trying to create achievement where there is none. and people have become far more savvy about what impeachment is trying to accomplish or not, and is doing damage to the

have an extreme idea across the idea that is suggested, that ends up having to happen, because now everybody is compared to the crazy's idea. i went to a dinner, and there were big republican fund-raiser things, and ito is here five people to have these crazy theories, and he knew a year later when he went back there, everybody would be saying those crazy theories. the train is out at the station. they will have to try to impeach joe biden regardless of what they come up with, and anderson, i just want to say to my democratic friends out there, please don't use this, you have every right to, but don't use this as an excuse to mimic some of the republican processes, because we have to have at least one party that is steadfast holding these standards, holding the democratic principles, small the, and saying that impeachment is only to be used in extreme circumstances. democrats have every right to fight fire with fire, but please don't. you right now are the adults trying to hold things together. >> do you think the speaker mccarthy keeps his job? >> i don't know. the kind of surprise me a couple of times, like with the debt limit deal, the fact that he got elected as speaker, but i think he's either going to have to completely capitulate i would in the matt gaetz, oyo a a had these and they have the a a had these and they have the in e will tal to help we'll be right back. fearful and ended today with his capture. police described danilo cavalcante today as defiant and still resisting arrest. he later appeared in court on a charge of felony escape. bell was denied. he's now in prison. brian todd has details about how the search came to an end thanks to heat-seeking technology and a police dog named iota. >> the subject is in custody. >> escaped murder convicts danilo cavalcante captured after nearly two weeks on the run. >> our nightmare is finally over, and the good guys one. >> a burglar alarm overnight lead to a heap signals bothered by aerial infrared. this morning, tactical teams comforts on a location inside the search zone. >> they were able to move in quietly, had the element of

surprise. cavalcante did not realize that he was surrounded until that had occurred. that did not stop him from trying to escape. we began to crawl through thick under brush, taking his rifle with him. >> but he did not have an opportunity to shoot. a canine officer released a police stop. >> the dog subdued him and the members from both of those teams immediately moved in. he continued to resist but was forcibly taken into custody. >> within five minutes, it was over. >> i was right back in there -- >> right behind a wood pile? >> police said the rifle that cavalcante had with him was wouldn't in his reach as he struggled to get free from the

drought -- dog. deadly force not used despite being authorized. >> the gun was absolutely a factor in the threat. the dog was quick, has the ability to disable someone and take them off-guard so that they're not able to do something like fire a gun or use a knife, whatever, escape even. >> authorities say that cavalcante was bleeding from -esque up one caused by the dog, but it was not significant. >> he looked as though she had went through an awful lot. he looked tired, wet and stressed, which is exactly what we were trying to do all along. >> police say there are people that wanted to help him, but were prevented from doing so, including isner, who has been referred for deportation proceedings. cavalcante escape 13 days ago while serving life in prison without parole for killing's former girlfriend deborah brandao in 2021. for the family of the victim -- >> they have been barricaded inside their homes, not feeling safe anywhere. for them, this is tremendous

relief. >> same for many residents. >> it is definitely relieving. it's scary for people around here. >> it's nice to be able to come back out and make a living. >> brian todd joins us now from the south coventry township in pennsylvania, near where cavalcante was apprehended. what is the status right now? >> anderson, we have a new booking photo for danilo cavalcante. this comes to us from the pennsylvania department of corrections. this photo is him being processed at a facility called sci phoenix. that is in montgomery county pennsylvania, a maximum security prison, where he will be serving his life sentence. we also know that he's been charged with felony escape and connection to the man hunt. also tonight, we have a statement from the family of the murdered ex girlfriend deborah brandao after his capture. the family released a statement, here is part of it. our retail you, this is from deborah brandao's sister sarah. quote, we are profoundly grateful for the support and hard work performed by the police over the last few days. the past few weeks were extremely painful and terrifying, as they brought back all the feelings of losin g

my sister and the idea this this criminal could hurt us again. we've asked for privacy, as they say that they will re-composed themselves. and, anderson, the status of another individual involved in this, we received a picture and information about the dog that took danilo cavalcante down a short distance from where i am standing. the dog is a four-year-old belgian named iota. for every account, this talk was incredibly farook, tough, tracking him as he tried to crawl away with his rifle. the lieutenant of the pennsylvania state police said while iota was basically tackling him and on top of him, that rifle was a thin reaching distance of danilo cavalcante, and that cavalcante was resisting the dog. you can imagine, that was a close call, that the stock could have been injured, possibly shot by cavalcante. luckily, none of that happened. >> brian todd, thank you. joe i am joined now by franco rosa. he and cavalcante our former roommates. cavalcante moved out one day before he stepped that his ex girlfriend in 2021, the crime for which he was sent to prison. franco, i am wondering what went through your mind when you heard that your former roommate have been captured? >> it was a huge relief.

i could not believe it, for the first few seconds, and then i started crying. i was really relieved. >> had you've been afraid at all for your safety while he was on the run? obviously, he was reaching out to people he knew, even from long ago. >> yes, of course. i did not know if you would come here. in the beginning, i was like, i don't think he will come here. i think he will try to go somewhere else in the country and maybe go to another country, but then on sunday, when i heard that he was nearby, i was extremely nervous and anxious. yeah, i did not know what to do. there was so much going through my mind. >> we want to show people video of him moving out of your apartment a day before he murdered his girlfriend. did he seem like a violent

person when you knew him? did you know about issues between him and his former girlfriend? >> yeah, the only think that i knew is that he had an argument with her, but nothing violent. it was an argument, and then he moved to my house at this putting up. he was super quiet. super quiet in -- and working so much. fully the house between five and six in the morning and come back from a, to nine pm. he was a quiet, shy guy working a lot. >> did you know when he lived with you that he was wanted in connection with the homicide and brazil? >> no, no idea. i just found out 100 days after the murder of his ex. >> franco rosa, i appreciate your time tonight, thank you. >> thank you. >> joining me now our chief law enforcement intelligence analyst john miller and nypd deputy commissioner. it's over. i have been talking about this for a while. how do you think it all unfolded?

>> it was fascinating to watch it unfold as it did. at one in the morning when the dea surveillance plane is circling, this is a team usually following drug dealers looking for a drug transaction or money problem. here they are circling the woods at one in the morning, and they spotted a heap signal and say that it looked like a person. looks like a person crawling. that was a real indicator to them that it was not another false positive, like a deer moving through the woods or something. they set up around that. we have also learned a lot more about his four-hour interview with u.s. marshals talking about -- and what he told them, how he operated on the run. >> what do we know? >> you know, it's some of what we expected. he was sticking to the woods, hiding in the daytime, moving at night, trying to steal things from houses, came up with a backpack that had some clothes and shaving gear, which made it easier for him to get

rid of the beard and mustache and change disappearance. he survived on watermelon and water from the streams. he went so far as to when he had to relieve himself, actually barry's own fecal matter, because it took into account that the search party would realize that it did not come from a deer or a rabbit, and they would know that they are on the right track. interesting that he says that three times, they were so close that if they had stepped one direction or another, they would have stepped on him. but he was laying in the brush still and not breathing until the search party passed. they've been close. >> he's now in a pennsylvania state person to carry out the rest of the life sentence he was serving. does he then gain -- if somebody escapes, due to get extra restrictions in person? are they watched more carefully? >> he's got a couple of things going. number one, he is going to be treated as an extreme escape risk.

number two, isn't a more security facility where there are more concentric circles of security, so it's a place that will be harder to escape from. it's a state prison. and, of course, he is going to be treated differently. he is also going to be charged with escape. one lasting of interest, anderson, because you and i talked about this a couple of times over the last 24 hours, which is the introduction of the gun into the scenario. we talked last night about that opportunity that he did not have before, do a robbery or cash, use it for carjacking. indeed, we are told in the interview with the state police and the u.s. marshals that he said that was his plan. he was going to use the gun to do a carjacking and get that vehicle and go as far as he could towards the canadian border. if he had to carjack and other one. all of our assumptions and

kremlin at the moment says there is no concrete plans for president putin to travel to pyongyang, the capital of north korea. but this statement from north korean state media saying he has been invited anyway at a convenience time, and that putin happily accepted it. look, previously it was not a priority, the relationship between russia and north korea, not for moscow, anyway. but now, there is a different motivation driving it. russia desperately needs ammunition, potentially from north korean sources, as well. so, we might see a close relationship and more time being spent by the leaders of those countries in each other's lands. that is something we are watching out for, anderson. >> it is worth noting that as a member of the u.n. security council, russia has supported sanctions on north korea over its nuclear weapons and missiles program. have putin or other russian authorities commented on the future of those sanctions?

>> they have, yes. they have been asked about them, particularly because of the speculation about a big arms deal, and of course the trade in arms is specifically banned by the united nations security council when it comes to north korea. and russia is a member of the security council, as you say, they would have signed up to that ban. same with dual use technology, like rocket engines that can be launched too -- used to launch satellites and to carry explosive warheads, as well. the kremlin says that russia remains a responsible member of the u.n. security council and says it will continue to work as part of that organization, but it has been ambiguous because it also said, at the same time, north korea is a close neighbor and we will continue to develop our relationship with that country, and so, i think it has left the door open as to whether it is going to sort of strike a big arms with north korea or not.
