10:35 pm
>> the president spoke for the third time today with the prime minister, since israel expended the assault on gaza, the president reiterated that israel had the right to defend itself, but he underscored the need to do so in a manner consistent with international humanitarian law prioritizing civilians. this is all illustrative of the fine line that president biden is walking as he confronts this growing crisis in the middle east. he is a staunch defender of israel and a defender of its right to protect itself, but he is also calling for the protection of civilians, calling on israel to adhere to international humanitarian law and avoid targeting civilians.
10:36 pm
in that phone call, the president did say there was the need to significantly increase the flow of humanitarian assistance. hostages are being held in gaza, among them, potentially americans. the expended effort had not stopped the negotiations, so far hamas had not been forthcoming in releasing the hostages. he addressed these efforts to get americans stuck in gaza, to get them out of the border, across the border and into egypt. the israelis are also not bring
10:37 pm
up resistance to the effort, so far, hamas is making its own demands and putting up resistance to opening up the border. president biden certainly remains focused on the situation in the middle east. he did speak to the egyptian president, he did speak with him and he did discuss humanitarian aid efforts, he also discussed the expended gaza offensive. interestingly they also discuss the importance of ensuring palestinians are not displaced to egypt or any other nation. egyptians appear receptive to having foreign nationals, it does not appear as if they are receptive to having palestinians cross the border. >> for more on the growing humanitarian crisis in gaza, let's bring in the director of care in the west bank.

10:40 pm
>> we received phone calls from people who we have worked with. we ask for support with food and water. all of the people in the shelters have access through the agencies. in the beginning, there was an issue with the families, the infrastructure and access to food was lacking, existing food started to be lacking in the market. if i have hungry and thirsty kids, i do anything. now it is three weeks.
10:41 pm
this is possible. i can't confirm it, but this is possible. they need food and water.>> we've heard a lot of calls on israel for a cease-fire to help with this humanitarian situation. would you call on hamas to do anything to keep civilians under control and safer?>> as a humanitarian organization we request a cease-fire by all parties. civilians, this includes hospitals and shelters, this is what we request, acceptance of humanitarian assistance to enter into gaza in a consistent and safe manner.
