israel's war against hamas is intensifying, israeli forces are pushing in by land and continuing heavy strikes from the air. the idf struck 450 targets over 24 hours, including command centers and missile launch sites. forces have advanced about 3 km inside gaza, but as the grand invision expands, there is growing concern about the deepening humanitarian crisis in gaza, an issue that has prompted the united nations to hold an emergency meeting. sources say they are expecting to seek a resolution for an immediate humanitarian pause in the fighting in gaza. the u.n. six terry general says the situation is growing
11:02 pm
desperate by the hour. >> 2 million people with nowhere safe to go, being denied essentials for life, food, water, shelter, medical care, while being subjected to relentless dumbarton. i urge those with responsibilities to step back from the brink.>> scott mcclain is following development's from london. scott, i understand there is a developing situation at one of the largest hospitals.>> israel has been telling people all to evacuate four weeks now, that includes 22 hospitals and healthcare facilities. the major ones have been saying look, there is no safe place for people, and there is no safe way to evacuate the sick
11:03 pm
and injured, some of whom are children. that would be tantamount to a death sentence for the sick and injured. yesterday one of those hospitals, the second largest in gaza got a warning, they called it a threat. phone calls were received, with a clear and direct threat that the hospital must be evacuated at once or the red crescent holds full responsible for the lives of everyone inside the hospital. dave called with similar warnings more than twice, claiming hamas is being sheltered in that hospital and others like it. the red crescent is calling on the international community to protect the hospital. video you're looking at now is of recent strikes in the immediate vicinity of the
11:04 pm
hospital. these strikes were so close, the hospital building itself sustained some damage. you can see the hallways filling with dust in the aftermath of these strikes. the hospital director reiterated that there is no way to safely evacuate, there are children, some of them in incubators. he also said 12,000 people are taking shelter inside that holding, the vast majority being women and children. he denied the accusation that hamas is being sheltered, saying the one armed is even allowed in the building.>> scott, we are hearing increasing calls from countries around the world, and from protesters, for israel to exercise restraint in the aftermath of the terror attacks, you have israeli hostages being held within gaza as well. what are world powers ask
11:05 pm
israel to do?>> we heard from world leaders who would otherwise be broadly supportive of israel. they had a blunt message, the norwegian prime minister said he recognizes that israel has the right to defend itself, he knows it is difficult to do it in a dense urban environment, and rockets are still going into israel. he also said this in an interview, he said international law also states it must be proportionate, civilians must be taken into account, humanitarian law is very clear on that, i believe that line has long been crossed. he was critical of the fact the trickle of aid is not coming fast enough, civilians have nowhere to go, and the situation is contrary to the rules of war. norway was one of 121 countries that voted in favor of a
11:06 pm
resolution calling on both parties to respect the rights of civilians. the netherlands abstained from that vote. yesterday you had the dutch prime minister coming out with a statement of his own that was pretty blunt, saying allowing aid was necessary for the world to continue to support israel, he had a similar message with the norwegian prime minister, seeing israel has the right to self-defense, but it has to be proportionate. on the humanitarian side, as of yesterday there have still been less than 100 trucks filled with aid that have been allowed in, this is in comparison to several hundred that used to go in every single day. >> scott mcclain, in london, thank you very much. amid those calls for humanitarian aid are urgent
11:07 pm
pleas from the families of those being held hostage by hamas, they are pushing for the release of loved ones, and pressure is building on benjamin netanyahu to secure their release. families and crowds gathered over the weekend in tel aviv, demanding swift action from the government. families want the prime minister to trade palestinian prisoners for all of hamas hostages. benjamin netanyahu vowed to exhaust all options to secure the release of loved ones. the u.s. government says it is also working to help american citizens in gaza leave the strip. jake sullivan says the matter has to stay a top priority.>> we are in almost hourly contact with regional partners and with
11:08 pm
israel, to try to get to a point where there is a deal to help the hostages released. it is difficult. it is challenging. the terrorists have not been forthcoming about allowing these hostages to go. we believe there can still be a pathway, we are going to work tirelessly, and even though we have started to see israel moving on the ground, it has not changed the basic view that this is a paramount priority, we keep working at it, and the negotiations are ongoing. >> joining me now is a senior columnist and editor for the jerusalem post. i want to start with what is going on inside israel. we have seen a very fractured political landscape over judicial reforms, and the prime
11:09 pm
minister has posted some criticism of his security chief and then taking it down, what is happening inside the israeli government?>> nick, it's one of the problems, when a country is at war, political battles also will be fought. saturday night we saw the defense minister and the former chief of staff, joining as part of the emergency and the airbrake, in a press conference, benjamin netanyahu was asked are you willing to take responsibility? as have the heads of security agencies and the military. he kind of avoided the question, a few hours later,
11:10 pm
between saturday and sunday morning he tweeted i was never told that hamas was preparing for war, i was told by military officials that hamas was not preparing for war. that led to a major and backlash here in israel. in the morning, after coming under severe criticism, he deleted the tweet. it shows that people are tense, their pressure, we need to be focused, especially at the high level of political leadership. >> i was talking to scott mcclain about various world powers urging israel to exercise restraint. we reported on various demonstrations around the world, in rome, berlin, and toronto. how do the people of israel
11:11 pm
react in the wake of what many art calling 911 in israel? the hostages, the civilians killed, how does israel react to the reaction elsewhere in the world?>> it is very concerning, you have reported extensively on the surge in anti-semitism over the years. in places like london, hundreds of thousands are taking to the streets, chanting jihad, holy war against the jewish people. we see the ripping down of posters of those hostages that were taken by children, babies, older women, the elderly, men and young children. they are ripping down photos. we see professors. i've been exhilarated by what
11:12 pm
happens. there's something disturbing happening in the world. what is happening shows us the heaters of jewish people coming out of the woodwork. we have to stand as one, the jewish people have to stand as one, the world has to stand as one against this surge of hate to defeat it. and nick, it is coming to our homes and trying to kill us, seeing what is happening around the world shows that it can happen anywhere, tomorrow.>> one final question, what are your thoughts on iran and the potential for this to be a war that spreads beyond the borders?>> iran wants chaos, anarchy, this is what they have worked for. they have created these proxies. they are firing drones,
11:13 pm
missiles at israel to the south, they've done all of this because they want to make israel weaker, they want to pursue nuclear weapons. we have to make sure iran does not get immunity for what has happened. we cannot let this be a battle against the proxy. we must send a clear message as the west, a message that iran will not receive immunity, they will be responsible for this chaos, death, and violence in the middle east. >> thank you very much for your time. >> thank you.>> the united states is moving more forces to the eastern uranian see amid the clashes between israel, hezbollah, and hamas. a marine rapid response force aboard this amphibious assault ship is heading toward the area. it doesn't have a specific mission right now, one of the forces tasks is to conduct
11:14 pm
civilian evacuations. widespread pro-palestinian rallies have erupted in recent days, hezbollalah has been treating rocket and artillery firere across israel's norththe border. u.s. officials say they want to be ready, should they need to evacuate american citizens. matthew perry's family releases a statement in the wake of his death. we will hahave the latesest on invevestigation, and his untimi passing.g. the los angeles county medical examiner is releasing the remains of matthew perry to his next of kin even as they investigate the cause of death. the star was found unresponsive in his jacuzzi at has los angeles home after an apparent drowning. >> the los angeles police is investigating his death. foul play is not suspected.
11:19 pm

11:20 pm
group. he said this in many interviews. he also said he wanted to be remembered as someone who lived well, who loved well, someone who was a seeker. he started with small roles and landed more prominent roles, but his role as chandler really made him famous, that funny, sarcastic character that many are remembering today. the cast of friends, close on and off the screen, many reacting, saying they are devastated, heartbroken, and in shock. many are saying it is a big loss for all the wood, and also for his fans.>> the senior features editor for variety joins me now, emily, let's start with his acting skill. i mean he was obviously a
11:21 pm
comedic actor, but a very, very good one.>> you hit it right on the head, a very good comedic actor, a dramatic actor. they may not realize how good he was at the drama stuff, but if you look at some of the specific episodes of friends and the west wing, he could really dive into drama. he is most known for bringing that comedy, really making that character into a lot of people's favorite character, who really welcomed into the living room week after week and decades after the show is over.>> i was reading something this morning, suggesting that basically it wasn't much of a stretch for him to and have it
11:22 pm
that character. people read the script like it was written for him. he filled that persona perfectly. >> he brought the sarcasm and charm, it was the perfect amount of that, it was never mean, it was never boring, it was somewhere in the middle that only matthew perry could bring. he really did create that, there was only so much on the page, he created the cadence we hear in that voice. and when you hear a chandler bing quote, you immediately hear matthew perry in that. >> i have to come clean, i never liked friends. i would rather watch paint dry. but it wasn't just about friends, he had a personal
11:23 pm
struggle that was relatable, a struggle that he tried to use to help others. tell us a little bit about his off tv life, and what he went through.>> he has been through so much, he became an open book last year when he wrote his memoir about his intense use of drugs and use of alcohol, he admitted he was only sober for one season of friends, season nine, the one he was nominated for an emmy for, and some of the pivotal moments on screen he was living at a sober home. many times he was in the hospital over multiple surgeries, he had been spending millions of dollars on extreme methods of drug use. he was given a 2% chance to live at one point.
11:24 pm
he is heartbroken that he put his family through that, but it said in his memoir as much as people talk about friends, they talk about these amazing shows, when he does die, he wants people to remember him as someone who loved and was able to reach out a hand to help someone else, that's what he wanted to write that book, with the hopes that he could help it at least just one person.>> i may be wrong, but i don't believe we have heard from his costars. we saw them all together in that reunion a year or two ago. we haven't heard from them since his passing. is that odd? >> that is correct, creators have spoken, but not the other cast members. some sporting cast members have sent their love, but nothing from the five of them yet.>> emily, thank you very much for your time. still ahead, the israeli

11:31 pm
killed. according to the international organization for migration, 29,000 civilians have fled communities along the border to safer ground further north. the continued skirmishes on the border are feeding fears the conflict could spark a broader regional conflict. friday that u.s. embassy advise all u.s. citizens to leave lebanon now while commercial flights are still available. the u.s. is the latest country to urge nationals to leave while they still can. the groups leader has been silent until now, and is scheduled to make a speech soon. the prime minister of qatar has also spoken to discuss the war, and stressed

spending their days studying the torah. only about 1200 or so ultra- orthodox were constructed annually, out of 12,000 potential applicants.>> why did they not want to serve in the army?>> they have an ethos, studying the torah gives the nation a metaphysical layer of defense. he says he cannot see how that is enough now. he knows many feel the same. i personally sat in my living room and cried for a day. we can't just go on with daily life. he said never again after the holocaust. if you want to say that again to the next generation and promise our children a sustainable future, we have to solve this issue.
11:35 pm
this sciences together we will win. it is rare to see nationalistic language in neighborhoods like this in israel. you are seeing a lot of israeli flags plastered all over as well, that doesn't happen during normal times, it gives you some sense that opinions have changed. his wife's has changed her opinion, but she does worry. >> i worry more if he doesn't know how to hold a weapon, i want a license for a gun. we are not in switzerland.>> there is one more difficult thing, before he goes to serve. he has to tell his children, a nine-year-old, a seven-year- old, and a six-year-old.

former president donald trump is lashing out about a gag order just reinstated by a judge residing in a federal case over trumps alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. trump posted on truth social claiming his right to free speech was being infringed, claiming the gag order is not institutional. trump also blamed the biden administration for the latest ruling by the judge.
quote
11:40 pm
gag order was first issued earlier this month, trump appealed, and the order was pulled. prosecutors had warned that trump could intimidate witnesses through his public comments, and encourage harm to prosecutors. the former president also stepped back onto the campaign trail, trump hit the stage at an event in iowa and did not mention his former vice president and dropping out of the race, but he did take aim at his republican rivals, ron desantis and nikki haley.>> like a wounded bird falling from the sky. there it is. he is falling beautifully from the sky, it is a beautiful thing to watch. i got him elected. anybody know who bird brain is?

i will never run against our president, he's one of the greatest presidents we've ever had. i will not run against our resident, under any circumstances.>> i asked a lot presser and political commentator about the rivkin candidates trying to break trumps hold on the party, and why they all seem to be struggling.>> people know him, the base continues to like him, and i don't think any of his rivals have been able to make a case for why they would be better. you saw that struggle with mike pence, trying to thread the needle, in one sense, kind of running away from the former president, by the same token, trying not to alienate his voters. that's exactly the same change that he haley and ron desantis have had, they want those
11:42 pm
voters, but they want to tell those voters why they are better than trump, and those voters are pretty comfortable with trump.>> he didn't even mention mike pence, trump tends to mock people who might have some impact on him, he mocks ron desantis, we also saw him on saturday doing a weird impersonation of president biden as a doddering old man who doesn't know where he is going when he tries to get offstage. is that going to be a continued theme for trump to continue to attack biden? is that something his base response to? or do they just want trump to show? >> we saw this in the 2016 election, he made fun of disabled people, he made fun of military veterans, gold star families, he mocks people with
11:43 pm
various types of disabilities, and this is a continuation of the theme. he mocks people who don't have disabilities, but he's trying to claim that they do. will this help? he is a known quantity. the base is very much behind him. does it help him to target joe biden as opposed to his rivals? absolutely. he is going to be in the general election against joe biden. he really doesn't need to bother with those other rivals although we do see him mentioning them, keeping his eyes on the general.>> to the aftermath of the recent mass shooting in maine, troubling new details, authorities were warned about the gunman weeks before his rampage that left 18
