you never want to lose your edge and alexis rx completely understands that national airport this is cnn kamala harris and donald trump are getting high profile help as they campaign in must-win battleground states. plus with power being slowly restored areas hit by hurricane helene. there are new warnings about floodwaters. the challenges residents are facing as they try to rebuild a week after the storm drastically changed life and towns across the southeast and it was the case that captured the nation's attention 35 years ago. why prosecutors are now reviewing the murder convictions of the menendez brothers. we're following these major developing stories and many more all coming in
11:02 am
right here to cnn news central harris is in the critical state of michigan today as the race for the white house now closes in on its final month. >> any moment now, harris will speak to voters at an event in detroit and then later, she heads to flint, michigan. both areas are crucial for democrats looking to win that important state in november. and with just 32 days until the election, it is all hands on deck as former president barak obama sees it, he's set to begin and a major campaign push for harris next week with several key battlegrounds to visit before november 5 let's take you now live to cnn national correspondent eva mckend, who's following the harris campaign in flint, where the vice president is expected later, eva, what should we expect to see today from harris?
11:03 am
>> well, boris, let me begin with that big push from president obama because he's going to be out on the campaign trail next week. and what the campaign is hoping for is to leverage his star power among democrats to turn out the vote he, has, been used to great effect in other democratic campaigns essentially to attack democratic complacency. we heard a preview of this from michelle obama during the democratic national convention. when she passionately argued to democrats. listen, don't get cute i bought four election day. this is not the time to be in your feelings. if you don't hear directly from the campaign asking you to get out and vote you need to get out and vote anyway, because this election is too urgent. so i suspect that we're going to hear a similar theme from former president obama next week in pittsburgh before he launches his battleground an eva again, you're in in flint because harris is going to speak there later this evening and she's
11:04 am
meeting with a specific group of specific demographic of voters that could swing that stay. >> tell us about that >> border she's in detroit meeting with arab american voters. we of course know that part of the democratic coalition, souci, in this battleground state of michigan. and we have heard time and time again from these voters how saddened they are by an angry, they are frankly about the biden-harris administration's response to the war in gaza spill, though, the campaign did on the endorsement of emgage action, they are plentiful organizing group on behalf of the house for muslim americans it was a bit of a loop, warm endorsement in that much of it was about keeping the former president away from the white house. but still that is very much a constituency that they are worried about and talking to and so after that offense in
11:05 am
detroit, she heads here to flint where this is going to be a really worker focused rally. we are hearing from a senior campaign adviser that the vice president is going to focus on her her remarks on the trump campaign's unwillingness to commit to certain protections for auto workers that is going to be a big focus here as well as magic johnson is going to take the stage in support of harris as well. he of course, is a part of coalitions like athletes for harris and business leaders for harris. >> boris, and an alum of michigan state university as well. eva mckend from flint, michigan you should know the vice president has taken the stage. this is a live image of her and detroit will of course, monitor her remarks and bring you notable moments as we get them, allison. >> okay. >> boris, thank you. so the white house is celebrating two pieces of economic news today. the unexpectedly strong new jobs report with 254,000 jobs jobs added last month, which
11:06 am
also lowered the unemployment rate and dockworkers getting back to work after three days of walking the picket lines and closing down part of america's port system. cnn business and politics correspondent vanessa yurkevich is here so vanessa, the strike is over, meaning that's a done deal. >> thought of a done deal, it's done for now until they have to work out the rest of the details of this contract. but there was so much economic pressure, so much consumer pressure and so much political pressure to get this deal done and ultimately the two sides usmx and the ila union, reached a deal on the economics of this package. wages. >> we know from sources telling our kayla tausche that president biden was really nudging his administration to put pressure on usmx to put a better offer on the table and ultimately usmx did just that. >> and the union agreed to go back to work work with this
11:07 am
wage deal. one of those key players in the administration was lael brainard. she's the director of the national economic council and she was involved in trying to get these two sides to agree, listen to what she said earlier today. >> companies came forward to make a generous wage commitment that's important because these workers for the six previous years, some years they didn't see any wage gains. other years they saw only $1 and don't forget these are workers that came out every day during covid. they risked their lives to keep goods moving for american families and consumers and the companies did actually do very well following covid and this allows the companies to share with the workers those benefits commitment that she's talking about is a $4 an hour increase
11:08 am
for six years of the contract but until that time, they're going to be operating under their old contract. >> as i mentioned, is extended to january 15 as they worked out other details of this contract. but ultimately, allison, it's going to be the rank and file union members who will have the final say they are the worst of sorry to interrupt you. were going to president biden, who has just stepped to the podium at the white house press briefing. let's listen and shows the. importance of collective bargaining and representatives. i critical progress towards a strong contract i am especially want to thank the carriers, the port operators, and the longshoreman's union for reaching this agreement at a time when the nation is experienced such terrible devastation from hurricane helene is truly a service to the american people for all these parties to come together and respond to our request to keep the ports open are
11:09 am
determined to avert a crisis of this moment because it's a critical moment if we didn't do this. now, we'd have a real problem. also want to thank my white house team for the work they've worked around the clock to bring the parties together but today, we got more incredible news although the shanti american economy is about the strength american economy, new jobs report as you all know, you've been reporting, created 250,000 jobs in september they expectation was for 150,000 jobs in september, which has far exceeded that number. not only the previous two months was not only that the previous two months was revised up 150, 75,000 jobs and from the very beginning, we were told time and again that the policies we were pursuing, we'd put forward weren't weren't going to work, to make things worse including some of the other team are still saying they're going to make things worse but we've proven them wrong you know,
11:10 am
we've told our american we we were told our american rescue plan was too big and it would crowd out private investment it proved them wrong vaccinated a nation and got him economic relief to people need i came to office, determined and trickle-down economics and grow the economy from the middle-out and the bottom up. i know you're tired of him. you say that over and over again, but that was a policy that khamenei is a policy because we knew that everyone does well in the middle class grows the nation stronger, and stronger when there's a strong union movement as well we're told it would work. but i was also determined to do what was the nord for much too long presence have been authorized since thursday's to be able to spend the money given by congress to spend and the money on hiring american workers, and using the american product where they were available. and that's what we did. we were told that was going to be a big problem. but all the money we i was
11:11 am
authorized to spend by the congress has gone to building and use american products were told wasn't going to be we were told that was going to be a big problem, but it's working we're also told that our historic laws invest in america and all americans would crowd out private sector investment well, that was proven wrong too. we've attracted nearly 1 trillion since we've come to office in private sector investment from domestic and foreign companies, investing in america in american the not to stuff of schiff, she ship, she shipping jobs overseas for cheaper labor and bring it back a product america, we're billing the here and send it overseas. and look at the results across the board. unemployment is down four to 4.1% and every month fact that vice president harris and i've been in office we've been, we've created jobs every single month nation is now
11:12 am
created 16 million jobs since i've come to office more jobs created in a single presidential term in any time in american history our gdp is shows our economy grew at 10% under my administration. unemployment rate is the lowest level in 50 years we're also told inflation couldn't come down without massive job losses or sending the economy and economic recession once again, outside experts were wrong. inflation has come down wages have gone up faster than prices. interest rates are down record 19 million new business applications in the 5-4 the stock market continues to reach new heights we've got more work to do keep getting for keeping keep getting prices down. like more affordable housing, extending what i've done for seniors and lowering prescription drug costs by letting medicare negotiate the prices make sure that's available to everyone. by the way, we've done so far, just
11:13 am
when we've brought down the price for seniors under medicare, it saved the taxpayers billions of dollars billions of dollars save the taxpayers billions of dollars. that's important to note because they don't have to pay the exorbitant am rush irrational prices. that these companies are charging simple fact is we've gone from economy in crisis to literally having the strongest economy in the world and what we got we've got more work to do. we've got more work to do to deal with things i've just mentioned, and we're going to have to deal with unforeseen to cost of what this and of course, a lot of money and i'm i'm going to probably have to ask the congress before we leave for more money to deal with some of those problems. but that remains to be seen. i'll take a few questions before i turn it over you picked out mr. president to questions the first florida senator marco
11:14 am
rubio. >> describe today's jobs report is having faith numbers what do you make of that? and how worried are you that many americans aren't hearing that the jobs numbers aren't real look here if you notice anything maga republicans don't like, they call fake numbers are the real or sincere what we are and by the way just look at how the eu talks about how they'd like to have an economy like ours let's talk about the rest of the world looks at us and what we do so i well, i don't want to get going then. >> secondly, could you clarify some of your comments yesterday? >> it's regard to strikes on iranian oil facilities what did
11:15 am
you mean by them, given some of the reactions proceed in the market how they're what they're going to do in terms of a strike. >> that's under discussion i think there are if i were in their shoes, i'd be thinking about other alternatives that strike >> crane. thank you so much, mr. president, for being here this week senator chris murphy said it's certainly a possibility that the israeli government is not going to assign any diplomatic agreement prior to the election which is, what you have been calling for for so long, potentially to try to influence the result. do you agree do you have any worries that netanyahu may be trying to influence? since the election, and that's why he has not agreed to a diplomatic solution no administration has helped israel more than i have nhan
11:16 am
none and i think bibi should remember that and whether he's trying to influence the election. >> i don't know, but i'm not counting on that many times recently, but you want to speak to him that you plan plan that mitch they want to you don't want to? >> know? i didn't say that you're making it sound like i'm seeking i'm assuming when they make her husband, how they're going to respond. we will then have a discussion thank you, mr. president, for being here. >> what are you advising the israelis to do in terms of their retaliation to iran and at this point, you still haven't spoken to can you who is it fair to say that you have little personal influence over what he decides to do? >> no. >> guard. our teams are in contact 12 hours a day for consular gotten i've already had my presidential daily brief. we've already had an interface between our military, our the diplomats and some
11:17 am
constant contact they are trying to figure out and it's the high holidays as well. they're not going to make a decision immediately and so we're going to wait to see what they when they want to talk. >> ask you to stay consistently defied your administration's own advice. so do you believe that the israelis are going to listen to the advice you're giving them what i know is that plan that i put together security council the vast majority of our allies around the world as a way to bring this to an end. >> one of the israelis have every right to respond to the vicious attacks on them, not just from the rain is but from everyone from hezbollah. houthis anyway but the fact is that they have to be very much more careful about dealing with
11:18 am
civilian casualties so how should they respond? >> you expressed concerns about attacks on iranian oil facilities. how should they respond? >> that's between me in that. >> we've got to move on. that town the election is a month away. >> one, i'd like to know how you're feeling about how this election is going. and then also do you have confidence that it will be a free and fair election and that it will be peaceful two separate questions. >> i'm confident be free and fair i don't know whether it will be peaceful and things that trump has said and the things that he said last time out, when he didn't like the outcome of the election we're very dangerous if you notice, i noticed as vice presidential republican candidate did not say he's accept the outcome of the election and have even accepted outcome the last election. so i'm concerned about what are you making any preparations, getting security briefings related to domestic
11:19 am
security i always get those briefings. she got what that akilah and the we have didn't are you concerned? during including sanctions on iran. and would you include a foil and dosages that's the something that's been that's under consideration right now. >> the whole thing i can't discuss that. >> you just saw your comments yesterday on the port strike you said by the grace of god is going to hold. is there any reason you think that this whole time worried from now there's more to do in terms of everything from oh, whole notion of mech excuse me, mechanization of the ports and the like. there's more and more to resolve thanks. >> great. thank you, mr. president last night, you said that there's still a lot to do to avoid an all-out war in the middle east. i think firstly, i'll be pretty close to that definition already and secondly, what, what can you really do to stop that happening main thing we can do is try to
11:20 am
rally the rest of the world our allies and to participate in like the french are in and lebanon, other places to tamp this down but when you have proxies as irrational as hezbollah and the houthis and it's a hard thing to determine get to lose, gotta go, but i know i don't i said i'd take a couple of questions here though i appreciate to take some more to lose. >> you're going to be the last one mr. president. >> thank you for spending some time here with us. there were obviously been a number of crises that the country has been facing over the past several days with the hurricane, with port strike, with a situation in the middle east. can you talk about how your vice president, who is running for the presidency has worked on these crises what role she has played over the past several days? >> well, she's i'm in constant contact group whether she's aware of where we were
11:21 am
singing from the same song sheet. she helped pass all the laws and being employed now she was a major player and everything we've done, including passage of legislation which we were told we could never pass. and so she's been hurt. her staff is in a locked with mine in terms of all the things we're doing calling you, sir, i didn't call you take mr. president. for its convert day of prayer and fasting monday, october 7, your reaction, sir? >> i will prayer and fast to you with israel's response. how long are you okay with israel bombing level of what is
11:22 am
acceptable to you mr. right, guys. >> thank you, everybody. >> thank you, mr. president? >> thank you >> well, that was a surprise. yeah. >> often we get a heads-up that president biden is coming out to speak to report different report receipts i'm getting the impression boris that he likes this, but we did not get any heads-up. >> and it seems as though he wanted to come out and take credit for the great jobs report and for the ports being resolved, all the striping, resolve and talk about it with reporters and take questions. >> he touted a number of positive developments in the economy. inflation going down, as you noted, the end of the port workers strike. and he didn't seem to relish it, but it's notable that he enjoyed that moment because he hasn't done that before. this is the first time that president biden has gone into the press room at the white house in his administration to directly engage with reporters. and he was asked a number of significant questions
11:23 am
specifically on the job report. he was asked about comments made on social media by senator marco rubio of florida, who alleged that the bureau of labor statistics inflated jobs numbers. and this most recent report that exceeded expectations by about 110,000 jobs the president saying there that anything maga republicans don't like they say is fake. the president defending the numbers, saying that they are real. he also touted the fact that previous months were revised upward. and the president was also as significant questions about the middle east, specifically his relationship with benjamin netanyahu president biden there saying that no one has done more for, for israel, no administration has done more for israel than we have a lot to talk about. >> let's bring in cnn chief media analyst brian stelter along with pollster and communications strategist frank luntz. gentlemen, great to see you, brian, just about that. >> this is the first time that president biden has gone into the press briefing room and taking questions, what why now, why today i'm texting with
11:24 am
some of his former press secretaries and aides and their a bit surprised by it as well. allison of course, journalists want to see this. we are happy to see this, but it is true, it is according to the white house, the first time that biden has gone into the briefing room and surprised reporters in this way i can't help but think about the headline from axios this morning axios, one of those influential washington sites. they're morning newsletter had an item called the disappearing biden's pointing out that sends so biden exited the presidential race he has been relatively in, i was invisible, but he has been off the trail. he has not been doing as many public like events. he's not been doing many interviews. that item landed this morning, about two hours before the jobs report. so i can't help but wonder if that's a factor into this as well, is sudden appearance in the briefing room. and i'm going to mention that comment that he made about the republicans claiming the numbers are fake because that is something we continue to see from trump because allies, a rejection of data and facts and biden is clearly noticing that
11:25 am
he's maybe watching the news coverage he is perceiving what's happening and he's speaking out against it very publicly today yeah. >> it's something that we've seen sort of ferment on social media when in previous months, jobs numbers have been revised down and republicans reported getting to that to say, oh, the numbers are fake. jobs, numbers were revised down multiple times during the trump administration. so make of that what you will frank from a communication standpoint, i do have a note and i'm curious what you think about this. we were actually about to go live to vice president kamala harris, who's speaking right now in detroit, michigan and apparently she's talking about this port strike ending. she's trying to appeal to union workers and hit you. have the president of the united states come out. clearly overshadowing her answering significant questions is that a communications mistake? is is the left-hand not talking to the right-hand in this situation? >> that's a very good point. and if they were coordinated, as you assume, they would be, this would not have happened, but in the end, it's good
11:26 am
news. and presents want to be surrounded and want to be available, want to be engaged when the news is good, and they wanted to be as far away as possible when the news is bad. the key about this is that biden economy is stronger than trump acknowledges the economy is actually stronger than what boast most voters actually perceive and that's because he economy tends to be a lagging indicator that will feel positive about it for months after the numbers turnaround so what biden is trying to say right now is pay attention employment is up, inflation is down. i kept my promises so the timing is perfect for him. frankly, harris should have just delayed the bind the chance to have the spotlight. and one more thing i can't see the video. i can only hear the voice and so as i'm listening to him, i'm thinking, wow, he really does sound tired. but i'm also thinking he sounds very pleased and it's been a

11:33 am
haven't seen president biden out in public as often, frequently as we had seen before. obviously he since he dropped out of the presidential race, fewer campaign events know campaign events. notably as he was leaving, he was asked if he had any regrets about dropping out of the race and the president made a funny, let's watch okay, i'll tell you the joe, we don't have that. we don't have the sound right now, so i'll just give you the punchline. he said, i'm back in but i mean, don't you think that's telling because he wanted to come out and talk about the economy. he wanted to come out and take credit. he likes this kind of stuff. and i think the i'm back in does suggest that he's missed some of the campaign trail and perhaps engaging with the press as well. let's discuss more with our panel, cnn chief media analyst brian stelter, along with pollster and communications strategist frank luntz. thank you both for being with us. bryan, to you. i love all the things that we heard from president biden. there, which stood out most to you first of all, just to
11:34 am
underscore what you're both saying, a white house aide says he did come out for two big reasons. it was because of the port strike been averted for now and because of those impressive job figures that we learned about this morning, but i was most struck by a more sober comments that the president made during this brief press conference he was asked about the upcoming election and whether he's confident the results will be free and fair. he said, i'm confident it will be a free and fair election. i don't know if it will be peaceful. you and i think he's touching on it concern many americans feel about the coming weeks, about the prospect of violence and unrest depending on what happens in this the election. we know that that's been weighing on the president for months. he told the new yorker's evan osnos back in january that he was concerned about what might happen, for example, if trump loses again. and what kind of unrest and follow. so i thought it was striking that he brought that up amid all the good news. end. he certainly has a lot to celebrate today. the markets are rallying today. biden's in a good mood, but as he looks
11:35 am
ahead for weeks from now, he expressed concern about whether they election will be peaceful yeah. >> frank, one of the other reasons that's notable is because that wasn't a scripted remarks. so that was off the cuff. that was when the reporter started asking her questions. so had his communications team been able to polish up? i don't know if he would've said i don't know if it will be peaceful, trump says things that are dangerous. i mean, he's clearly speaking his mind there. what did you think i think it it's should be encouraged? >> i mean, there's way too much scripted rhetoric in politics that's undermining the public's faith and trust and who they elect it's basically not the mind of the president, just centers that house members, but it's the language of spinmeisters, the language of consultants that's not what we need right now. in these last 30 days, what matters most is authenticity and truth we have to ask of these candidates and of the president. tell us
11:36 am
what you really think. tell us what you really know. no no-holds-barred, because the next four years depends on it. >> and in the end, you have to be accurate. >> and so it's great to move this to the presidential race. donald trump talks way too much and kamala harris has to talk enough trump would be far better off being silent and not being so nasty and so rude. and harris would be far better off and she would come tell us exactly what's going to happen because the public has the right to know and she has a responsibility to tell them that, right. both candidates are making mistake and the american people are suffering, suffering from it. but i love the fact that biden came out and was candid with the reporters today because that gives the american people faith in their democracy again so frankly, you think it's a mistake for harris not to do more media appearances, for example, and i did not engage more with reporters the way that we just saw president biden exactly and i want to
11:37 am
pair it because donald trump doesn't have an unexpected thought and in the end, he would be far more effective just asking the question even with these numbers, are you better off today than you were four years ago? >> do you feel safer today? they needed four years ago. very simple questions and then get off the stage an. harris needs to do exactly the opposite. give people the chance to challenge her. >> what are your what are the ramifications are the consequences of your plans on inflation and where are you going to make a difference in the border that you have failed to do? over the last three-and-a-half years. >> one candidate is just rude and abusive and turning voters off. the other candidate is silent and that's turning voters off. >> the candidate that figures this out over the next 30 days is the candidate who wins the presidency brian, i think what the harris campaign would say is that she is doing lots of media locally. so she's going to battleground states. she's doing local media, maybe local
11:38 am
stations and newspapers but obviously precious few national sit down interviews. she obviously didn't want to cnn. so do you think that that's hurting her as frank saying it would be really interesting to see her in a press conference. >> i agree with frank that a press conference setting would show us a lot from harris. obviously, the campaign not doing that intentionally because as you said, they are focusing on swing state interviews and they're actually doing this weekend. their one of their biggest interview, yet a national sit down with 60 minutes. that's going to air on monday night i'm prime time, 60 minutes sometimes draws 891011000000 viewers. so that's going to be a major moment for harris even more interestingly, trump has backed out of that interview. trump was going to participate. now he's not so maybe he's taking frank's advice and talking less biden. meanwhile, biden is the ultimate wing man for kamala harris in a moment like this yes he may have stepped on her appearance this afternoon, but generally speaking, given that the economy is so important to voters and given the voters are
11:39 am
more pessimistic than the data suggests they should be objective flee anytime biden can emphasize good news about the economy, it's going to redound to harris has benefit and it's really important when there there are data sets, when there are reports, when there are new facts out there, they can't just be handed out at 8:30 am and then not follow up on that biden and other politicians have to repeat those points and emphasize the good news because as we know, americans are feeling more sour about the economy than the data would suggest not really surprising moment this afternoon at the white house, brian stelter, frank luntz, we appreciate your joining us for it. thanks so much good to see you president biden also talked about the conflict in the middle east as well during his unexpected news conference, we're going to discuss that aspect of this and just moments stay with us >> i've been saying publicly what people say things out?

health. rushed a walmart and find total bsw. >> this source with kaitlan collins tonight at nine lebanon, as israel continues its punishing assault on iran backed hezbollah fighters new data shows that israel's daily strikes are more intense than the height of the u.s.'s attacks on afghanistan and iran, issuing new warnings today, just days after launching its own direct assault on israel in a rare speech or ron, supreme leader ayatollah khamenei said that his nation will attack israel again if necessary. >> here's president biden
11:45 am
moments ago about tensions in the middle east comments yesterday with regard to strikes on iranian oil? >> what did he mean by them, given some of the reactions procedure in the market for they're, what they're going to do in terms of a strike. that sounded a discussion i think there are if i were in their shoes, i'd be thinking about other alternatives that strike you >> kareem. thank you so much, mr. president, for being here this week, senator chris murphy said it's certainly a possibility that the israeli government is not going to assign any diplomatic agreement prior to the election, which is what you have been calling for for so long, potentially to try to influence the result. >> do you agree do you have any
11:46 am
worries that netanyahu may be he trying to influence the election and that's why he has not agreed to a diplomatic solution no administration has helped israel more than done none none i think maybe she remember that. >> whether he's trying to influence the election. i don't know, but i'm not counting on that cnn international diplomatic editor nic robertson is live for us in tel aviv. >> nic, it's notable that president biden and prime minister netanyahu haven't spoken since august 21. and yet you have this back-and-forth with iran and you have the incursion of idf forces into lebanon what do you make of those remarks from president biden moment. >> i think there was a certain feeling that israel would have responded sooner to iran, perhaps one of the reasons was that this is, we've just had the high holidays here, rosh hashanah and that this would
11:47 am
perhaps not have been the best time for israel to make that kind of response, given that people were celebrating with their families. and if iran had echoed back another round of strikes, then that would have had very sick, potentially very serious and damaging consequences of that time for this country but it does appear from what the president saying that israel and the united states, or in deep discussions as they were in april last year when iran struck back then and back then, the white house was able, it appeared to temper israel's response in it appears to be what they're trying to do again because an attack on iran's oil refineries could drive up the price of oil that would not be helpful for president biden right now, would not be helpful for kamala harris and running for the running in the election coming up. so all of this seems to sort of speak to a huge effort from the white house that president biden alluded to. we're talking you know, 12 hours a day were available all the time to kind of tamp down
11:48 am
israel's response. yet the president there also saying that it's up to israel to do what they will do the potential for escalation to your point, there is very, very real and i think adding to that what we heard from a deputy military commander in iran today if israel does strike, then they're going to be looking at the power infrastructure, the oil refineries here saying that there were three power stage power generating stations in israel and several refineries and iran can hit them all in one go. so it's very clear. the very public messaging here why israel is still waiting to strike back, isn't clear, but it does speak to a very careful analysis. but we really here have no idea which way they'll take it, whether they will take it to prevent escalation leave the door wide open for him nick, when you hear president biden say no administration has helped israel more than i have.
11:49 am
>> is that the perception in israel? >> certainly it is among a percentage of the population had been for the prime minister. absolutely not as found. the united states, or the way that he's publicly discussed the situation in the united states trying to hold israel back. he publicly blamed and the united states for not providing weaponry that he needed in the fight in gaza. we know that prime minister netanyahu would far prefer if president, if former president trump won the election because he had had somebody in the white house who was much more hawkish about iran. and that fits netanyahu's view question the president was asked about is netanyahu trying to undermine you biden, of course, saying no, no, no, there is a very, very nick, lit as you were speaking, we got an update that the u.s. military houthi targets in yemen including on the group's
11:50 am
military capabilities. this is an effort the u.s. military says to protect freedom of navigation in the red sea. and it follows weeks of houthi attacks on israel. so israel is not only defending against houthi attacks, fighting hamas in gaza, but also now with this incursion into lebanon, taking hezbollah had on i'm wondering what you think their options are given that they're being defensive on so many fronts? to going after iran, especially as we just heard, president biden there saying that oil facilities should not be a focus government is concerned and for most of the population, iran is behind all of these proxies. it's behind hezbollah is behind hamas's behind the houthis. it's behind some of the iranian sheer back militia today who sent a drone into the golan heights, killed in two soldiers and wounding more than two dozen others. so iran is behind all of it. so the fact, the notion that israel would not seek to have a military
11:51 am
strike that would act as a deterrence against iran at a deterrent to them, a deterrence to others in the region is inconceivable absolutely is going to have happened to have the united states in the region right now, taking on the houthis, trying to take down some of their military capabilities is helpful for israel. the other thing of course at this time window does, while israel calculates as president biden is discussing here, calculates its i'll get package actually allows, and this is not being talked about publicly and we don't know that it's happening, but gives the united states more time to organize more assets into the region. should things really escalate because it's only just a couple of days ago that iran did have that direct attack on israel and the united states is perhaps not as best postured as it would want to be to support israel. and of course that gets to what president biden was saying. there's no administration. that's done more than his to support israel. and of course that is in effect in the region at the moment, witness what we saw in yemen today nic robertson
