4:01 am
through florida, water rescues underway right now from severe flooding, the roof literally ripped off the home of the tampa bay rays that was supposed to be a staging ground for first responders. we really are just now getting a sense of the full extent of the damage including from the huge deadly outbreak peak of tornadoes, several deaths have been reported, no exact count, yes. >> and more than 3 million people across the state are waking up without power i'm kate bolduan with john berman, sara sidner is out today. this is cnn new central morning, there are active water rescues, which we will get to as we are getting our first look at the destruction left behind by hurricane milton. at this moment, more than 3 million customers without power. we are standing by for an update from florida as governor and from the fema
4:02 am
administrator, you can see right there the roof literally ripped off of tropicana field in st. petersburg from the storm. >> there have been historic levels of rain causing major flooding and sarasota, venice and plant city where water rescues are happening at a hotel and it assists did living facility at least 36 tornado has been reported, almost certainly more one st lucie resident that's on the other side of the state said homes were flattened like a weight dropped from the sky. >> there have been several deaths, although we don't have an exact number yet, we are getting new information by the minute. you can see victory blackwell right there in orlando or attaching for let's get right to viktor for the very latest victor hey, john, we just got some pictures in from the orange county sheriff's office. >> did they posted on social media showing an attempt to execute a water rescue? they say in this area near union
4:03 am
park, there were water up to their chest. they were going into this mobile home community to save the people, to rescue the people who were there. however, they didn't, they didn't want to leave. so they went into try to save these people, but could not because they were determined to stay the amount of rain that fell here just unbelievable amount set a single day record yesterday at orlando international airport. and still two or three inches more to come today. now, you've got a moment here of pause in the weather where there is no rain and the winds have calm, but the mayor, buddy dyer says do not be deceived. this is not over two to three inches is still expected to fall throughout the day as the rest of milton makes its way across the state. as we've said, more than 3 million customers across florida without power here in orange county, that number is closing in on one hundred thousand. it's just south of
4:04 am
us, about 45,000. i checked with brevard county next door straight east. and that's where officials tell us that one of those tornadoes touched down overnight. they have no reports at this moment of any injuries, but were still trying to get the details. related to that tornado touchdown in brevard county. here across orange county. the question is the water, the rain, while we're talking about storm surge on the coast, this is an area that during e and two years ago we saw significant flooding to the point where some communities were isolated by the flooding of lake davis we're just minutes. i'm starting to see the blue and the sky were maybe 20 minutes, 25 minutes from sunrise here. and then we'll get a better picture of just how bad the damage is across orlando. i'm in a hotel with people who have come from the coastal areas to come inland and they're now up and talking to one and another. i spoke with a woman from tampa who says that she has checked
4:05 am
on her home. it's fine. a woman from sarasota says, no trees down there. but the story here, as you see just a few branches down here in the lake buenavista area, right at the edge of the park's this is the hotel zone at the walt disney world resort. no major reports of any damage at the parks. all those parks will be closed today. so we're just getting our first look from local officials as they're out assessing the damage. and we'll start during our own surveying as the sun comes up here in orlando, john. yeah. and that's such an important point, victor, we're just beginning to get a sense it's of the damage as the sunrises. >> so we'll let you look around. we'll come back to you as soon as you see anything, victor. thank you so much for your reporting. appreciate it. >> and there are multiple fatalities being reported in st. lucie county, florida. that's on the east coast of florida, 135 miles from where milton made landfall. this is all after multiple reports ports of tornadoes touching down and just ripping through
4:06 am
the area. this morning, rescue teams are searching for people who may still be trapped in their homes, joining us right now on the phone as st. lucie county sheriff keith pearson. sheriff. thank you so much what is the latest on the damage that these tornadoes have brought your, as you can see on the doppler mitch mitchell is just now. >> are milton is just now off the coast of cape canaveral. we're still feeling the effects of the tropical storm winds with gusts up to 50 miles an hour on the ground however, are search and rescue teams are national guard or deputies he's fire district. we've been out throughout the entire night, check in all of these residents and rescue as many people as we can on getting reports back that we were able to get 25 people to safety. but unfortunately, i do have to report that we do have multiple fatalities. >> do you have a sense yet of how many fatalities we don't and right now we want to focus on life-saving. we want to bake all of our efforts focused on saving as many people as we can
4:07 am
i actually, i heard you say late last night that 201st responders were searching for people. many of them probably trapped in this retirement community where you where you'd said that the fatalities have been reported, have they found anyone trapped in this room, trapped in the debris? yes i'll absolutely our teams out there, like i said, i know that on round one, on one way or another, i know that 25 people were brought from that area to being housed. >> so these houses were leveled these, these, this area is just completely devastated we it felt the impacts of multiple tornadoes within a 20 minute period and unfortunately, it struck a modular home community that's 55 plus. so the residents, there are elderly they're whole homes with them inside were lifted up, moved destroyed. i mean, everything in this hurricane's for this tornado's path is gone and sheriff videos we have seen
4:08 am
coming in of some of the tornadoes that touched down our other worldly. >> there absolutely terrifying and in the videos, the images are coming in have you been able i mean, it's kind of daybreak ish right now, the sun's coming up. have you been able to get a real sense with first light of how much damage these tornadoes brought was actually out on scene with our deputies as these tornadoes struck, responding to another incident, you know, our our sheriff's office here was struck by a tornado and it wiped out a red iron building about a 10,000 square foot building that housed all of our rescue vehicles. >> so we first had to now get all of our vehicles out of there are high-water rescue vehicles are boats and things of that nature. and 30 minutes later, in the northern northern area of our county, we had reports of vital our deputies confirmed at least six
4:09 am
tornadoes on the ground but our eoc reported back that they have 17 conformation comp confirmed tornadoes touching ground in our small community within a matter of 20 minutes i mean, you know, to put it bluntly, that sounds crazy. >> for your deputies to be i mean, that all at once, essentially, that sounds absolutely crazy. have you ever experienced something like that no, i haven't but i can tell you this. you know, we have the greatest governor desantis. he sent down the national guard, wasn't an hour. we've had you know, 50 to 100 national guardsmen saw they said specialties, search and rescue teams jimmy patronas helped coordinate that and we had boots on the ground along with our deputies and fire rescue's and volunteers within our deputies were there within minutes. >> but we had a state support within hours, which is especially during these these weather conditions here there's still here. >> we've got our dogs out there are deputies and all our of our staff and then those that are helping us do the search are still doing the
4:10 am
searching process as we speak right now, even with the winds being 40, 50 miles an hour and that's the thing it sounds this isn't over. you guys are truly in the middle of it, and i appreciate you jumping on to give give everyone an update. in the midst of this, what is the message to everyone who sun's coming up? and everyone in the county, what would you like them to note this morning? >> no. stay safe, check on your neighbors you know, we have a great community here. >> the although there was lots of damage throughout our entire county the area that we're focusing on from safety measures is in the spanish lakes community. >> we want to make sure double check, triple trek again you see that your neighbor's house some damage, has some damage to check on them. >> you can call 911, will come out and check on it. but again, most of our reports are isolated to that half square mile area where of the modular home community was struck. we have lots of residents that
4:11 am
were destroyed, but we everyone's account honored for right now. we're just searching for those that are unaccounted for and sheriff, finally, can you give a sense of what's your best read, right now? >> again, initial and in the middle of it, of the scope of injuries and fatalities you know, injuries almost everybody that we've pulled out of that community had cut screw us, cuts bleeding of bruises when it comes to the fatalities. >> i don't even want to get into that at the moment. but again, i could say that it's more than one again, we want to focus on we're still ferc focusing on a wreck rescue mission here, and continue to do so absolutely. sheriff keith pearson. thank you very much. john all right. >> happening now, dramatic water rescues. we are getting new video in, in the next few moments, stay with us

we bring them here live video. >> tbs we're going to, show you some live pictures right now happening. this is out of clearwater, florida. i am told water rescues happening as we speak with all of this happen and this is just as the sun is beginning to rise, beginning to come up over florida. and so many communities are now going to have to just start to get a fuller sense of damage from hurricane milton. but as we've been talking, people are still, there are calls going out and people are needing rescue from their homes. millions are without power this morning. as at least several feet of storm
4:17 am
surge inundated southwest florida from the coastal city of venice to fort myers to naples. venice is just 17 miles south of siesta key. were milton made landfall? and was also battered by wind gusts of over 100 miles per hour winds, so strong. you see their small plane was flipped upside down, joining me right now is lauren anderson the public information officer for the city of venice? for the latest. thank you so much for coming in. >> your, you're just south of where this storm made landfall. >> what's the latest from there? >> thank you so much for having us. so, you know, we have widespread power outages, cyber outages disrupt the city. we have trees down, debris in the streets who still have flooded roadways. a lot of that water has receded but our main messaging this morning is pleased. we understand people are curious. >> they want to check on their homes where we're at asking them, do not leave to check out what's going on just because
4:18 am
the winds have died down, doesn't mean that going outside or drive around as safe. >> in fact, the opposite, because all the dangers are certainly not yet identified out there well, that's the and that's the thing, right. >> first light coming up, the winds have died down enough for first responders to start getting out to get a sense of it. when you think you guys will all have a real sense of the damage that milton brought few hours but yeah, i mean, it while it's still dark, were still out there assessing venice is one of the cities that was forecast to get some of the worst storm surge, like in the ten to 15 foot level. do you know yet how high the water got? it seems that most if all, that no one really got the it got the most feared hit with storm surge of 15 feet. but do you know yet how high the water has gotten? >> i was driving around venice yeah, we were anticipated you get that highest surge. >> gratefully, we did not. i don't know. this is an early estimate, but probably 67 feet
4:19 am
we're showing as we speak, ronneberg showing live pictures of people being rescued in clearwater, florida, just kind of putting a real fine point on how this thing is not over. people who made it through the night are now realizing that they need help as the, as this day begins, what kind of rescues have you guys been seen in venice? >> you know, we're really grateful to our community many of them evacuated when directed, which is wonderful because then you don't see that type of rescuing that you're describing. but again, our key fits are still out there are going to probably be assessing the same places that they did in hawaii where we did do some rescues and just i haven't gotten in any of that kind of activity yet does need to be lighter before we do some of it. >> so we'll just have to see, but i'm not hearing reports that that has to happen yet. >> again, that's because a lot of people evacuated like they were directed to do absolutely.
4:20 am
>> you mentioned power power of situation. it's it really power is out really in so many places across the state. kind of what's your assessment of how how damaged the power grid is for you guys? >> yeah. it's completely damaged. i mean, a lot of our street lights are out which we're asking people if you are out, you shouldn't be, but we're asking people to treat it like a four-way stop, make eye contact with anyone across from you, but yes, that is widespread is cleanup and recovery going to look like? you've mentioned that this is a community that's already having to deal with the after effects of hurricane helene, you get milton coming in less than two weeks after that storm comes through? what does that mean for recovery? and you guys are essentially going to be recovering and picking up pieces from the, from the hit from two storms simultaneously. >> that's right. we had debris
4:21 am
out to be picked up from helene that debris is certainly falling debris now. so yeah, that could be extensive we're just going to have to go out. there. are solid waste. crews are amazing so i'm sure we will get picked up pretty quickly. we're we're on top of that. we're used to it being in this coastal community and we're used to storms. so you know, it probably won't take us very long to do it because we're pretty good the right anderson of the city of venice florida. thank you very much for coming on. good luck today so we're continuing to track what is happening with hurricane milton as milton, thankfully is now moving off the course, the coast of florida it's spawned at least 36 tornadoes across the state we're live as emergency teams are starting now to assess the damage there culture over the edge. people are watching and then our world

reporters on the ground and the best political team in the business follow the candidates, follow the voters, follow the facts follow cnn can see right there the eye of the storm from hurricane milton, just left florida's east coast moving out into the atlantic. but there is still extreme danger from flooding the water is still rising in some places. look at these pictures from fort myers overnight. look how high the water is there and we're also getting live pictures in which we'll take a look at it a little bit from clearwater water rescues happening at this moment, there's continued tornado risk. kate just spoke to an official from st. lucie. that's on the east coast of florida reporting multiple fatalities there from tornadoes. we don't have an exact number yet, but obviously information is coming in as the sun rises with me. now, is mitch landrieu co-chair of the harris for president campaign.
4:27 am
you were also lieutenant governor of louisiana. when katrina and rita hit. you've got experience at these moments. what's the most important thing? the morning after? >> well, first of all, we don't know yet what the extent of the damages that storm was. a really horrific storm. and in many instances, this is actually the most dangerous time. you still have a lot of water out there. as you said, you've had tornadic activity, which if that hits you, you know, we've had a couple of deaths from there. you have individuals that didn't leave that needle to be rescued. so you have to let the first responders do that work. i'm sure that the governor in short order is going to have a press conference with all the federal officials at a talk about what they see, what they know, what they have to do for the next couple of hours, but i know as hard as it has been for the people of florida it's going to take some time to assess what the credible damages, but listen to the governor, to the local elected officials and let the emergency responders do their work and the governor of florida, ron desantis, will be holding a news conference.
4:28 am
>> we understand at 8:30 am eastern time, along with we believe the fema administrator, who is also a joint federal state news conference which will brief the people, correct. as a leader at this moment, what does one need to do well, if there was ever a time for us to come together as a country, this is that you have to be on the same team. >> the president, the governor, all the federal officials or state officials the mayors in these areas, the police chiefs and sheriffs and the ems everybody's got to stay really focused. the governor will help lead that effort. as you said, administrator criswell will be standing by his side. they're going to tell everybody what they see, what they know, how they think they can help. but the best thing that folks can do even in this incredible pain is listened to what it is that they tell you based on you're going to want to rush back in. that's always a bad idea. there are 3 million people that are out of electricity. the worst of this storm is not necessarily over from everybody because as you said, john, this tornadic activity can really, really be dangerous. so we're not out of it yet, and the damage is going to be
4:29 am
catastrophic for many, many families and business owners and communities you started by saying everyone needs to put politics aside. >> how do you feel like? that's going so far well, i think it's getting better as you can see, the governor governor desantis, and of course, governor cooper from north carolina. >> they put down all of those conspiracy theories and said, let's work in really, really closely with the president as you know, both the president and the vice president have been on this since before helene, they seem to be in communication with each other. you got to block out the noise of the other stuff that doesn't help all that carping, all that fault line, all the all the misinformation and those lies, those are hurtful and if we're talking about that, we're not talking about rescue and the folks they need to talk about that noise has to go away let the clear command and control president, the governor, of course, fema, let them do their work because everybody is on the same page. these storms do not discriminate, red versus blue, rich versus poor. they hit everybody pretty badly and evenly. and as you can see from the pictures, the damage is really going to be catastrophic. it's going to
4:30 am
turn people's lives upside down we have to all come together to put their lives back together as quickly as possible. >> and we are looking at these pictures and what are the things that the suns now just coming up, we are just getting the first sense of some of the damage there that will we'll get a better sense as the minutes and hours tick on this morning. mayor, i do want to shift completely to canada campaign mode for a second. if i can, while i have you because you are one of the national chairs of the harris campaign and you were one of the national chairs and the biden campaign to that end? i was vice president harris has been asked repeatedly how she's different then president biden and some people think she's been tripped up by answering that. how do you think she is different than president biden well, first of all, whatever the differences is between them, it's not nearly as vast as the difference between her and donald trump. >> she's obviously a woman. she is a woman of color and she is of a new generation. and as you know, when both president biden and president trump, we're running against each other. the country was like saying, can we actually turn a page and i think it was nikki haley said was the first one that does that is the first one
4:31 am
that's going to have a leg up in the campaign. so she is she is not joe biden as much as they want to try to make her joe biden. but she was and is part of the biden administration and part of all the historic gains that were made from the american rescue plan to the bipartisan infrastructure law, to the chips act, bringing back manufacturing. but she has continued to work really, really hard on demonstrating that she wants to continue the fight to lower the cost for everyday americans, which is why the other day she came out with a plan to help the sandwich generation, those of us that have older parents and lots of kids i have eight brothers and sisters between us. we've got 38 kids and i got a mom that's 92. and we're all balancing that. everybody in america is doing that. if you want to have a pro-growth economy, you have to help folks stand up. she's been very aggressive about that. she's put out an 82 page economic plan and she's talking about that and she's basically going to fight really, really hard as needs be unfortunately, to protect the freedoms that donald trump wants to rip away from us. and she's going to be very aggressive and take it to him and so you can expect her to be own person. she has demonstrated that throughout
4:32 am
her life and she will do that when she's the president of the united states. >> mitch landrieu. i do appreciate your time this morning. i know watching storms like these. it's in your dna, it's something you've been through when you care about. so i do appreciate it. >> well, john, listen, i thoughts and prayers to the people of fraud, but please listen. you not out of harm's way yet. i think when the sunrises and we see the damage, people obviously going to be crushed by that but to the fact that to the extent that you can protect the loss of life that's the number one priority. getting that electricity back up and operating and then letting the first responders do that work and then don't don't do anything that's going to put you back in harm's way right now. i think is the way forward. >> the best advice for sure. thank you so much for being with his mayor. >> thanks, john, good talking to you. >> all right. happening now we are seeing water rescues across florida and the sun is just coming up one of the images we're just getting in from clearwater there you can see that zodiac out pulling people it looks like a family inside that boat rescued from their home. we are getting new images like this in a new sense of the aftermath of hurricane milton

7866 at 5:55 thank goodness. and as the sun is coming up in tampa, we are hearing about water rescues that are underway. you're seeing some of the video showing video from plant city this morning behind me, but take a look at this. this is clearwater florida water rescues. look how many people are needing help to get out this morning as the sun is coming up, tampa's 70 miles north of where milton actually ended up making landfall. tampa's mayor this morning is urging residents to stay inside

4:39 am
surge we were set to see appears to be in relatively decent shape. but obviously that's what the caveat that we don't know exactly. how all the areas of pinellas county are doing. we actually spoke to a sheriff's deputy this morning that have blocked off access on a bridge into pinellas county. he reported that there had been some down power lines and that is a major part of the concern, the unseen danger that still lurks underneath floodwaters underneath rubble potentially, we do so as you noted, that some areas are flooded out and rescues are underway, especially in the eastern part of hillsborough county. you mentioned plant city. we understand there's some two to three feet of floodwater in certain areas and aaa senior citizens syllabi had to be evacuated back here in pinellas, part of the concern is with the barrier islands. those places that are at sea level that have the coast on one side and the bay on the other. a lot of debris from hurricane helene was leftover in those areas. they are

impossible to access right now. nevertheless, officials are putting up the word to stay indoors. they want folks to stay inside to avoid those unseen dangers as they survey the damage and get a better idea of just how devastating hurricane milton but as to this specific area yeah. >> i mean, just at first light because the sun finally coming up so they can get a true clear assessment of the scope of it. all boris, thank you so much. it's such great reporting throughout all of this. thank you, john. >> all right. and as boris mentioned, breaking this morning, we are seeing water rescues across florida her for milton and clearwater, also in hillsborough county, cnn's isabel rosales was just in the action i've got the sheriff right here. >> sheriff, is it okay to talk with you, chad chronister of hillsborough county sheriff's office, sheriff. what can you tell us about what's happening? putting what these rescue operation yeah. >> we're we're we have three of them. fabius vehicles are staged throughout the county and they're in full operation at assisted living facility up
4:41 am
on the north end here at the hotel? >> you have some elderly folks that struggle with some disabilities and able to get them to some dry land, get them some medical attention. >> these are people who didn't heed the warning this is these are individuals and areas where we've never seen flooding never seen flooding. >> and the da go from no flooding that three feet of water up over your knees? >> i can imagine how frightening it was for everybody here. >> yeah and specifically the assisted living facility, another separate operation happening right now in the northern part of the county that's well, the university of south tampa, another place you would never imagine to see flooding, like this. >> that's a more complex situation because you have people dealing with medical complications what, can you tell me about what's happening there? >> yeah. that's it takes a little more retreat, judge. >> certainly have to handle a fragile situation with the utmost care and a lot more care. >> we have most 100 residents up there. now, certainly going to be a more prolonged rescue operation. >> any message you want to give to folks out there that they're stuck stuck and and more
4:42 am
blind-sided again, in these areas that they've never seen conditions like this before just hang tight shelter. >> i know you're uncomfortable almost 600,000 people in our county many without power will come to you as quick as we can. >> and any idea how many of these calls you have right now. >> right now, these are the two big facilities that we have another rehabilitate beta facility. we have a hotel here and then up on the north end. but again, out east and up north, we've never experienced this type of flooding, so i'm sure it was quite frightening for these it's folks who thought they were, they were safe, they were sheltering in place and now faced with having flooding and not knowing what was going to stop again, you can see the room relief my hardest certainly full of content knowing that we're going to get them to dry ground and get them to medical attention. they need, sheriff. >> thank you so much for your time back to you all right. >> again, that was isabel rosales just a short time ago in clearwater, we are getting some other footage in from water rescues in that area. we'll bring it to you as soon as you as soon as we can, and
4:43 am
it's not just the flooding. also, we're seeing new damage. oh, no. okay. here we go. these are live pictures coming in from clearwater. look at that. there's a local reporter there, but i think it's worth keeping that up, guys, if you can. i mean, you can see the boats going through the streets. there to save people in clearwater. these are live rescues taking place at this moment. alright, we'll show them to you later also. we're seeing damage from tornados. kate just spoke to someone. there's a clear what well, kate just spoke to someone from st. lucie and official there who says there have been multiple deaths, no exact number yet because they are still working to save people. let's get to cnn meteorologist derek van dam the tornado issue here. derek, i mean, this was i mean, everyone was concerned about tornadoes, not as much as the storm spurs surge, but these tornadoes have turned out to be deadly yeah, that's right, john. >> and it's a well-known fact that the outer rain bands of an approaching hurricane are prolific tornado producers and they're usually very spat, fast spin-up tornadoes those they can cause some minor
4:44 am
damage, not often do we see these large wedge tornadoes that have dropped from the sky from what was approaching hurricane milton. and here is one of the larger tornadoes i'm not saying this as a wedge tornado, but it is a significant tornado. and by the way, keep in mind this is in palm beach county, wellington, florida on the eastern side of the state. so so much focus and attention was on the storm surge, rightfully so very dangerous part of an approaching hurricane. but this was almost overshadowed the threat of tornadoes turned out to be a significant factor in hurricane milton. in fact, there were a record number of tornado warnings issued in a single day for the entire state of florida, hundred and 26 to be. >> in fact, now that that's just interesting because there weren't 126 tornadoes. >> there were roughly 35 confirmed tornadoes so far. but if you look at this list of number of tornado warnings, you can just go back and see how they're attributed to previous
4:45 am
hurricanes, 2017, we've got irma. i was there 2024. that is helene, just two weeks ago. 2022. that was ian. >> yeah. and you can see those tornado warned storms and the numbers they're associated with it. we still have that onshore wind as milton continues to pull away from the space coast, that's the a.i. pulling away from cape canaveral and it produced a prolific amount of rainfall to not just tornadoes that pink shading there as ten inches or more of rain in st. petersburg, they got over two or over a foot and a half of rain in a three-hour period, they got nine inches plus, that is three times there monthly october average falling from the sky. that is why we're seeing these types of water rescues live on tv right now. >> all right. derek van dam for us. derek, you've done such great work over the course of this storm. thank you so much. we'll come back to you in a little thing. >> one city rocked by the initial storm surge was naples, florida. take a look at this video. so you roughly 100 miles
4:46 am
from where milton made landfall, floodwaters you see in this video, just taking over beachfront properties, look how it is rushing in as the storm battered the coast for hours and hours overnight, joining us right now is the city manager for naples, jade buddhist war. thank you so much for jumping on how hard did milton hit naples >> well, we got about six feet of surge. we were bracing ourselves for more. but ultimately that's what we received. and it was actually quite challenging for us yes. >> i mean, some of the estimates were double that, but still make no mistakes. six feet of storm surge is very dangerous and very damaging i mean, overnight we saw reports of, several feet, at least in multiple in many, many places, you're talking now. you've got sit six feet floodwater or
4:47 am
storm surge. how are people doing in naples today bit of a sigh of relief as you know, two years ago, hurricane ian brought nearly ten feet of surge to the city of naples. >> and we're still who are almost recovered from that and two weeks ago, hurricane helene pretty much wiped away our dune system along our coastline that made it easier for milton to breach our shoreline and fill up our streets with water so our residents are waking up, i think with a little bit of a sigh of relief that it wasn't as bad as ian our residents did a great job. >> they evacuated. we had no injuries reported last night. of course, we're making lots of calls this morning and there's a lot of cleanup ahead of us, but we've done this before and we're going to do it again. yeah we've seen in other places were saying we were just actually looking at me might
4:48 am
still be looking at it here, just live water rescues happening in clearwater, florida how do you have heard of what kind of any calls for rescues and naples? we are responding to calls. right now. we had a structure fire last night, no injuries and a couple of minor calls for service, but, it makes it a lot easier on our first responders when our residents do heed our warnings evacuated. and they were well equipped and you know, about this, morning, we do have some issues. of course, cars are going to begin driving around on streets and we have lots of intersections that are without stoplights right now. so we're asking the public to you use care, treat them as four-way-stops. and i let the crews do their work and please be careful you mentioned just the kind of the double-whammy,
4:49 am
the double hit that naples and so many other cities in florida are dealing with in the last less than two weeks. >> i mean, what is recovery going to look like after two major hurricane? and kind of gone through your city getting good at this it's a pretty simple formula we assess we make the streets safe and we begin recovering. so right now, we have pushed crews that will be clearing debris on clogging drains and making our streets safe we also have crews out doing assessments of both private property get a feel for how much water intrusion occurred within the city. i'll tell you that the majority of the city of naples had certain level of water. we were pretty
4:50 am
much submerged with water coming in from the base side as well, as well as the gulf of mexico. but it's going to take us, it's going to take us weeks to recover from this once we once we get a good handle on what is in store for us in the next week or so all right. >> in djibouti shuai, the city manager for naples, florida. thank you so much for jumping on. john yes. >> so north of naples and pinellas county, these are live pictures you're looking at there of water rescue. this is some kind of an apartment building. if the cameras pull out, we can't control because this is affiliate footage right now. but that's actually like five feet of water, right there. that boat has pulled basically inside an apartment complex and we think there yeah, there you can see it right there. you can see the water up to the windshield of that car. you can see these rescuers arriving there were presumably to save people who are trapped inside and just want to get out. these are some of the images does that we are now beginning to see as the

light comes up across the west coast of florida, that is where the greatest flood damage is right now, the east coast is where we're just beginning to get a sense of the tornadic tornado damage. this live pictures from cocoa beach the storm just passed here. he has moved out to see stay with us. this is cnn's live coverage black people for better or worse, a lot of people came away from when it's my turn to talk almost say tv on the edge, moments that shaped our culture. >> sunday at nine on cnn, we really don't want people to think go feeding food like ours. a spoiling their dogs. >> good real food is symbol that looks like food. smells like food is what dogs are supposed to be eating. >> know, living being should ever eat processed food for every single me all their life.

4:56 am
also learning that multiple people were rescued from under debris after reports of tornadoes in palm beach county. >> kara duffy from our affiliate, wpde see has the latest now that the sun is coming up, we getting a more clear idea of just how much damage a milton left behind overnight and into these early morning hours. and the damage is a lot more widespread than we first realized when we came out here earlier this morning, it was so dark out on top the power outages. it was hard to tell. and now, as you can see, just total devastation we've seen trees just snapped right in half vehicles that rolled across multiple lanes of traffic ending up here just feet away from a neighborhood pond area, a big chunk of the doc that's also in this community, lake and pond area that was now pushed all the way up onto the road debris
4:57 am
scattered everywhere. now, if you take a look to the side of us here as neighbors, certain making their way out. there also realizing just how serious this is. we've seen multiple well vehicles just pulled over to the side of the road. many of them with the windshield blown out glass shattered everywhere, park benches. a reminder of what was here, not even 24 hours ago, certainly a much different vibe out here as you can see in the distance here, trees he's barely recognizable and homes just shattered in the distance there. it looks like it's a small rv that's actually toppled on its side. so it really just kinda reinforces just how strong that storm and wind must have been last night. now, first responders have said that they reported to the scene here for a tornado that they took at least five people to the hospital, three of them had to get trauma lifted out of here, which as we know, means
4:58 am
they were seriously injured. several others were treated on the scene and as of right now, we're still just trying to talk to people in the areas, see what they know, how well they've made out overnight and really just where they go from here. so as the day goes on, we'll certainly assess the damage further and hopefully have some updates throughout the day and check in with you. but for now, reporting from the acreage and palm beach county, florida and carried effie yeah amazing thing there. >> that's the east coast of florida, palm beach county. that's not even where the storm made landfall. i don't even think it passed over palm beach county as a hurricane, but you can see the damage from the wind in the tornadoes there. now some of the most dramatic images we've seen, tropicana field where the tampa bay rays play the roof just just lifted off completely storm chaser brendan clement shot this video. he is with us and how this is just stunning
4:59 am
stuff of, you can see right through to the diamond on tropicana field situation when you pulled up into st. pete it took i took a lot to get their a lot of flooded roads. >> of course, all the bridges shut down took a lot of the back rows and he ran to the cars that were flooded. but as soon as you get into st. pete, you could see it off in the distance as well, lit of course, a lot of power outages. so it really stood out and the roof is completely off. >> you can even see light displays they have inside going of the different color lights reflecting off of the white patterns of what was left of the roof me when i see these images, i just think where it all go is it a breccia scattered about in the area nearby? yes. scattered inside and out. so when you look down into the field, you know, you see the diamond, but the diamonds got a lot of folks, a lot of debris on enough. that's pieces of the roof and then course outside of the
5:00 am
tropicana field in the parking lot, there's pieces of there as well. so it's just scattered all the way around. >> a lot of his hanging up in the rafters so in the beans or this for beings, for the roof. >> so it's, it's a just everywhere you look. >> and i understand after you shot this, you then turn south here you're south of sarasota now assessing the damage, there. what are you seeing now? what do you see along the way? >> currently in inglewood. unfortunately, the police have blocked off the road back to englewood beach and there is a temporary flight restriction up, so i can't fly the drone and show what it looks like out there i'm hearing is it's really bad, but i can't provide i want to not seeing any rescue crews go in or any resources you go in. so i don't know what the situation is. there but i am an inglewood and some of the homes that were flooded, you can see in the live shot to have up a lot of debris spread around. these were debris piles left from hele
